You can see Steve's heart break in that scene. On one hand he's trying to stop the spec ops from capturing Bucky, on the other hand, he's trying to stop them from getting themselves killed by Bucky.

I still have those moments. Back when it was the first Iron Man movie and only the reveal of other movies, it was great, but as soon as Fury said "Avengers Initiative" in the post-credit scene, everyone's minds were blown. We knew about all these movies to come I still can't believe that they were able to take all these movies and characters and tie them together. It is a wet dream, both from a financial and fanboy perspective.

I like the part where BP clawed Cap's shield and the other one where Vision just split a bus in two with his arm. Stuff like that's hot.

>>
Tidbits of the things that could've been are beginning to pepper through.

>Markus and McFeely original approach was Cap and Falcon searching for Bucky while Zemo is starting shit. The "Civil War" element was added later on, partially in response to BvS.

>In early drafts, T'Challa was just a diplomat advocating for superhero accountability, and Spider-Man was the outsider who provided a viewpoint not skewered by pro-reg and anti-reg. When Spider-Man negotiations nearly fell through, Black Panther got propped up, and then Spider-Man became available anyway.

>The Wasp was in earlier drafts, and there was also an extended sequence about Scott's life in San Francisco that got axed and never filmed.

>Russos cut a scene between Black Widow and Black Panther at the JCTC after the blowout in Romania because they already had a scene and it felt redundant.

>"You just started a war" and "I was wrong about you, the whole world was wrong about you" got cut, probably part of an extended confrontation at the Siberian Hydra base.

Also, Markus and McFeely apparently presented their first story draft before seeing "Ant-Man" and put Ant-Man on Stark's side before it was pointed out to them the grudge between Hank Pym and the Stark family.

This Avengers team has been operating for a year now since the end of AoU. We've missed all the time she spent getting over her brother and trying to understand her powers more as Cap has trained them.

I kept thinking when he was watching them fight, he was going to put the Zemo mask on.

ALSO, just got back from the theater, what did Zemo mean at the end? Did he escape?

When they showed the soldiers on the ground that was from the underwater jail, right?

"Did I?"
>>
Was definitely better than Batman v Superman but I wish the Russos had a little bit more style or brevity in their directing.

I really dislike the flat color tones and cheap lighting. For a movie about all kinds of different superheroes, aliens and mutants fighting each other it doesnt have a whole lot of visual diversity or flair. I also hate the up close shaky cam action framing.

Literally those are my only gripes tho. Other than them blowing over and basically resolving most of entire Registration thing I think it was a fine movie.

I feel like even though these movies are technically getting better im enjoying them less. Its weird.

6.5/10 would buy on bluray

he's still finding solace that the avenger is broken up and its member wanted for whatever. (except for like three people)

Also really pissed they keep killing off villains for use in just one film at a time. But thats probably more due to actors and how they have to ration out their time commitments for films.

As much as I wouldve loved to see Hugo Weaving make several appearances as Red Skull its something he himself probably wouldnt want to do more than once because of exposure and such

The heroes need more recognizable small time villains to be fighting instead of faceless, nameless goons and cgi aliens

Literally every poor review for this film is:

1. I don't like capefaggotry, this film was alright, but I'm giving it a bad review anyway because I'm tired of superheroes.

2. I have political disagreement with this film.

3. I really really wanted to like BvS and I hate the fact that this is getting great reviews, so I'm going to invent reasons to hate on it.

It's amazing. I've never seen a film where every single intellectually honest review was a positive one. I don't think this was a truly great film, but it just goes to show that Marvel have got this action adventure shit absolutely down.

Nobody got thrown into a propeller (well a jet engine was thrown at giANT-MAN but its just not the same).

His plan made no fucking sense.

He wanted to tear up the Avengers from the insude, but did he even plan the Sokovia Accords or everything just worked casually on his favor?

How the fuck did he know Bucky killed Tony's parents?

And how the fuck could he ever know that only Tony, Steve and Bucky would conveniently be the only ones to follow him to the snow base? What if only Steve and Bucky were the only ones to arrive there? He couldn't have shown the tape to Tony.

I've gone three times and just walking to the front doors from the parking lot is unsettling with all the people that just hang around in the lot.
>>
>>82530644
There's already tension in the MCU since Sokovia. JJ, WHiH, AoS all mention this off the bat along with Pym's reaction in Antman at the suggestion to call the Avengers. Follow this with the action of DD S2 (Castle, The Hand)... the news media would be talking 24/7 about controlling these threats as we've seen hints of in the other properties. All Zemo has to do is plan and wait for the perfect moment to strike. Civil War isn't taking place over a few days, it's clearly longer with everything going on while the countries have been angry about things like Sokovia.
>>
>>82530644
>He wanted to tear up the Avengers from the insude, but did he even plan the Sokovia Accords or everything just worked casually on his favor?
They just gave him a way to draw bucky out of hiding by framing him for the bombings. It also served to insert T'Challa into the events of the movie.

The thing is, to accomplish his overall goal, things didn't have to go exactly to plan.

>He wanted to tear up the Avengers from the insude, but did he even plan the Sokovia Accords or everything just worked casually on his favor?
After the debacle that was Ultron and Sokovia it was only a matter of time until the world governments would try and regulate the Avengers in some way. Zemo used Hydra and Crossbones as the trigger for that, but sooner or later something would have done it.

>How the fuck did he know Bucky killed Tony's parents?
It was in the leaked Hydra documents Black Widow leaked at the end of TWS. Early in the movie Zemo says he painstakingly decrypted and reviewed all of them.

>And how the fuck could he ever know that only Tony, Steve and Bucky would conveniently be the only ones to follow him to the snow base? What if only Steve and Bucky were the only ones to arrive there? He couldn't have shown the tape to Tony.
He called the hotel so that the attendant would find the dead psychologist, thus making it public that Bucky wasn't the one who bombed the UN conference in Vienna. From there it's reasonable to expect that AT LEAST Cap, Bucky, and Tony would come, if not more Avengers. If Tony doesn't show Zemo could always retreat and show him the footage at another time.

If it seems unlikely that he could predict all of these other people actions, remember that he's been doing nothing but working on this and listening to his dead wife's voice mail for 2 years. That includes studying each member of the Avengers for weaknesses and motivations, which he could do easily with the leaked information and the modern internet-powered news cycle. He was obsessed with Cap in particular, to the point he noticed a slight difference in eye color from what he expected when they met in person.

So I saw this movie, and I don't understand how people say Cap got overshadowed, or this wasn't a Cap movie.

Cap and his issues were the driving force of the movie. The Avengers had big roles, but the story was still primarily about Cap, even Tony's problems were tied around Cap's issues

This movie was awesome, I don't usually say this, but fuck the whiny bastards nitpicking everything and desperately trying to find fault in this. I was smiling through the entire movie. Even Crossbones was awesome and that was pretty much an extended cameo

This is pretty close to how I feel.

The movie was pretty good, but I'm so tired of what I'm seeing, the only time I felt excited was when they actually did new things.

Spiderman and giANTMAN was the only scenes that had me jumping in my seat with excitement. Everything else just so bland and boring by comparison cause I've seen it in every other marvel movie.

I feel like the biggest let down was that the end was just Iron vs Bucky and Cap, and that was it. There was no sinister villain in a colourful costume ready to strike when they were at their weakest. The ending was just sooo... bleh.

>Probably not many since Steve was literally catching guys that were getting thrown off the stairway and groaning at Bucky for going so over the top with his disarms.

By comic-book logic, yeah. And I've got nothing against comic-book logic. But in comic books, "not killing anyone" basically equates to "not doing anything that would absolutely, 100% definitely kill them". So, like, no shooting them in the head or something. But if you smash thirty guys heads into cinderblocks so hard that they crumble, I fucking bet you a couple of them died.

Then again I wouldn't want to watch a movie where Cap has to sleeper-hold everyone or something, so I'll just continue to hand-wave all that as "well, at least he didn't tear them in half or break their neck! I'm sure their fine."

>them blowing over and basically resolving most of entire Registration thing

I get the feeling that the movie wasn't really about registration. Like, the Civil War event of the comics dealt with a world full to the fucking brim with superheroes, aliens, mutants and shit, and in that world the registration act both felt more necessary (or at least more arguably necessary) and more impactful. It was a much bigger deal than the movie accords, where it was essentially policing a dozen people.

And I think that, instead of trying to *make* it a bigger deal, they just opted to make the Civil War about Iron Man and Bucky, and use the registration stuff as background fluff. Iron Man didn't try to kill Bucky because of the accords. Zemo didn't try to break up the band because of the accords. Everybody sat around and argued about them for twenty minutes, but at the end of the day the motivating factor for most of the characters had nothing to do with it. "But he's my friend", "He killed my mom!", "They blew up my family!". Hell, Iron Man completely circumvents the accords on his own initiative halfway through the movie. And he's the guy who pushed them through in the first place! Nobody, to be honest, gave much of a shit about them.

The comic event Civil War was about the Superhero Registration Act. The MCU's Civil War wasn't. It was about the "war" manufactured by Zemo to destroy the Avengers. They took the name and the premise of Iron Man and Captain America beating each-other up, and then they just ran in a completely different direction with it.

The interesting thing to me about the movie is the structure:
First third: Serious
Middle section: Mostly comedy
Last third: Even more serious

It really feels like two movies fused together, which it probably is, but if it's not particularly coherent, at least the comedy section perks the audience up and gets them in the mood to accept the depressing fin al act.
>>

She was an add-on from ABC/Disney because she had Revenge at the time. She barely even had onscreen chemistry with her actual bf/husband on the show
>>
>>82532927
>First third: Serious
>Middle section: Mostly comedy
>Last third: Even more serious
This structure goes back to Shakespeare though. It's where the term "comic relief" comes from. As in, the comedy is literally relieving the dramatic tension before the plot resumes heading towards the climax.

Now the term just gets applied to any funny character among a more serious cast, regardless of the actual narrative structure.

Early interviews made it sound like they weren't going to actually have them romantic in this movie yet, but having them build and tease the relationship.

In January they did reshoots in the location with those characters, so the kiss scene was probably something slapped in when Disney execs decided that the media conversation about Steve and Bucky was making the movie too gay.

Chris Evans hasn't seemed too happy about the rushed romance, either. Every time he's asked about romantic choices for his character, he never says Sharon even though it's the obvious and easy answer to go with.

It seems like they really downplayed any references to Wanda's role in AoU. No mention of Pietro, no reference to her past helping Ultron (even though that would make it make more sense that people are afraid of her), even her telepathy from that movie is gone and never mentioned. I don't think they even mention she's from Sokovia.

She's not exactly a different character than she was in AoU but she's definitely starting with kind of a blank slate. As far as new viewers know she's just a mutant (sorry, "enhanced individual") working with the Avengers.
>>
>>82533066
Building up the relationship would've been better, even though the Bucky and Falcon reaction was great.

The kiss really felt forced though, should've saved it for Infinity War or something. Use Civil War to build up the relationship and tease it, everything about the romance was too sudden and fast.

>ALL THAT FUCKING FORCED DRAMA (the Vision-Wanda scene was the only remotely believable one)
>huge airport fight scene felt like a fucking high school comedy play
>zemo was boring and his motivations were retarded, but that's okay because he barely even played a role in the movie anyways
>anti-climactic as fuck
>no deaths, no real consequences. should've just named it "civil scuffle"

few good parts
>liked the new spiderman
>ant-man was fun
>crossbones was cool, but died like a bitch
>final fight between cap/bucky/tony was enjoyable

Other than that, the other 80% of the movie ranged from meh to shit.

The Winter Soldier was so much better than this trash. I'm starting to see an inverse correlation between the # of heroes they cram into a new movie and how good it is.

I feel most MCU romances actually have good chemistry. Cap/Peggy, Stark/Pepper, the little we had of Starlord/Gamora and Hawkeye/his wife. The big downgrades so far are Thor/Jane, Cap/Sharon and Banner/Nat.

Just got back, enjoyed it.

One question though, when Zemo found that Russian guy to get the red book, what city did the movie say they were in? I'm in Cleveland, and the audience got a kick out of that. Was it Cleveland for everyone, or could that have been a regional thing?
>>
>>82533371
She had a four picture contract and she's already been in four movies.

Reportedly, since Iron Man isn't getting any more solos and she's a tertiary character at best in Avengers movies, they didn't ask her to come back, which would require a new contract and likely a pay raise.

>>
>>82531554

But the movie wasn't about colorful villains or big 3rd act set pieces. It was personal.

And, in the end, Cap was wrong. He believed that Bucky was framed and was CONVINCED that there was some person or persons behind it, like HYDRA or some dude in a costume ready to monologue. When they found out about the 2nd Generation Winter Soldiers, he was all like, "See, my buddy was innocent and everyone isn't paying attention".

But that's what Zemo wanted. He wanted Cap to go lone cop because then it would force everyone to try and stop him.

The movie was about how weird heroes are and how, ultimately, their decision to act based on ego and their own moral superiority would ultimately destroy them from the inside. They are their own worse villains.

The Russos had a facebook video posted responding to a fan question if there would be a kiss in the movie, and they sounded less than enthused saying "I bet you can't guess who it is." At the time it struck me a bit off with their attitude, but if it was executive ordered and they originally didn't want it rushed in, it makes sense.

There's even an interview of Mackie and Sebstan being asked the hardest part of filming where Mackie said watching Evans kiss a girl. The bill of rights was written very specifically not to give rights to the people, but to limit the government and protect the people. It doesn't say "people can say whatever they want". It says "congress shall make no laws abridging". Of course Captain America, the physical manifestation of true American ethics, would be turned off by a government registering super powered beings and turning them into another sock puppet branch for the big guys to manipulate.
>>
>>82534124
I'm the guy you're responding to and I, in all honesty, lost track of how many times my audience clapped loudly during the movie. Off the top of my head, the audience exploded in applause at Bucky's motorcycle trick, the Sharon kiss (and especially at Sam and Bucky's reaction), Hawkeye showing up, Spider-Man's big reveal, Giant-Man, and both post-credit sequences. That's probably just the tip of the iceberg because I had a hugely excited crowd. To be fair, it was one of the first screenings of the movie in the US as far as I know.

Especially since in Cap1 he stated he was "waiting for the right person." He just doesn't seem the type to jump into a new relationship the same week the woman he was still not over died, especially not with her niece. Chris Evans is a huge romantic, the movie he directed was a romance. I think he's right to think this was the wrong move for his character. I think he was wanting to emphasize his attachment and feelings for Bucky in this movie to make his choices more understandable and sympathetic, so the kiss with Sharon just seemed oddly placed in the actual emotional journey Steve was supposed to be going through.
>>
I'll be honest. I kinda kike the kiss.

It's forced, but that's kinda the point. It's Steven having a selfish moment and throwing himself at the chance.

It's not the start of something between them, its the end of a possibility. Their dialog reflects this.

It's Cap yet again cutting another tie to any chance at life outside of his mission. Him cutting ties to both his recent past and his old life.

I felt melancholic watching it.

Outside of that, I liked Sharon's support role. Its a shame she was robbed of both her chances to shine because I doubt we'll ever see her again.

I think most people that dislike the kiss don't dislike Sharon herself, although the SJWs are claiming otherwise and calling everyone who didn't like it misogynist and writing everyone off ass butthurt Stucky shippers. I do feel sorry for EVC though since her character is now defined and linked to this instead of allowing to grow on her own first.

It's lit and shot like a TV show. The colors really stand out, which does actually help the fun, comic booky wa-hey mood, but it doesn't look like a proper movie.
