The new game that was announced today is going to be Darth Maul and here is why

>Originally a maul game was in development to tie in with his arc in The Clone Wars
>One of the main reasons the game was scrapped was because they didn't reach the deadline before the Clone Wars arc aired (there were other reasons too but this one was pretty prominent)
>Darth Maul now has an arc coming up in Season 3 of Star Wars Rebels
>Hes almost definitely going to be a major part of the season.
>Perfect time to revive his game

Also

>Lots, and I mean LOTS of information about him is now not filled in, between how he got where he was between The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels
>Last time we were in a situation like this was when Ahsoka became a major Star Wars Rebels character. Lots of details about where she was were left completely unanswered
>A few months later Disney announces a book about her

Its going to be a Maul game.

So, reserved my hotel for Star Wars celebration 2017. I'm fucking excited as fuck for this.

Tickets are out the 25th of this month at 12 pm US pacific time. If you want to go, book the hotel now (you only have to pay 30 days before the event, no charge to your card until then, at least for what I booked) and get ready to grab the tickets the moment they go live. Shit will sell out fast.

It's actually going to be Canon Quest a Unity based browser game where you take on the role of Pablo Hidalgo, celebrated Minion of the Canon. You control his coffee fueled rise through the ranks at Lucasfilm, dodge Andi who will try to coffee block you at every turn in order to answer the same bullshit questions about whether KOTOR is canon. You can experience points for every tweet about canon you answer.

Why? Because it turns out Pablo has been driven closer to the edge of madness over the constant demands he answer every minutia of the canon, and so he convinced members of the game development team to create a browser game that actually lets anyone unknowingly answer REAL tweets and canon questions in his email. How did he do this? He bribed them with promises he'd keep Filoni from murdering their waifus. It is a promise he actually doesn't plan on keeping because nobody can stop Filoni's wolfborn thirst for blood.

How do I know? My father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate works at Nintendo.

>>82481923
1. Nobody other than Red Fly is still interested, and they already made an unsuccessful pitch to Lucasfilm
2. There's been a concentrated effort by Lucasfilm/Disney to put less emphasis on prequel-related content. Not to remove it entirely, but it's not going to be given a huge amount of spotlight. A game starring Maul, even if set in the post-prequel era, would certainly qualify under the "prequel spotlight" idea.
3. Maul coming back to Rebels was Filoni's idea, not something devised by higher ups at Lucasfilm. In the event that they ever do plan a game based on his Rebels storyline, it's likely going to be a while before it happens.
>>
>>82482624
It will probably end with pablo going on a rampage and murdering everyone at Lucasfilms. It will play like the "No Russian" mission in MW2.

>I already spend so much time watching/playing/reading Star Wars stuff that May the 4th has no meaning and I don't ever do anything out of the ordinary
It doesn't help that the May the 4th stuff is usually pretty lackluster. I mean, yeah, if you're in the market for a Darth Vader waffle maker but you really didn't want to go for it until you knew you get get $3 off the price then yeah, May the 4th is pretty exciting.
>>
>>82483825
That sounds cool, how sturdy are those practice sabers?

>>82483525
Is it a good series?
>>
>>82483965
If you like the show Bones or other crime shows that (may sometimes) use forensic anthropology, sure. It's very technical at times but the author explains things, at least. The romance aspects I couldn't give a shit about, since it appears every damn book, but it's never usually the A-Plot at least.

The more I think about it the absolutely stupider parts of the TFA galaxy are. They actually wrote it that the First Order has somehow cracked UNLIMITED POWER in the most literal sense. Dark Energy, harvested by the FO as their Quintessence.

What do they do with it? Make a doomsday machine that eats stars which it then shoots at planets. Okay. What could they do with it in a far more practical sense? The gungans had access to impressive levels of energy thanks to their planets core and had access to boomas and personal shields for their soldiers that the rest of the galaxy never really uses. The FO could have personal shields for all their Stormtroopers, vehicles, ships. Imagine force fields fed by near limitless energy. Or droid armies where the basic footsoldier is as protected as a Droideka.

All they can imagine is a giant sun gun, but with as much power as they'd ever need they could have anything.
>>

Even if all they cared about was pure brute force, the resources spent on that thing could've probably built and powered millions of star destroyers.

The Death Star at least had the excuse of being a giant symbol of fear that, if needed, could be used to remind the galaxy why it needs to be fear. As far as we know Starkiller wasn't intended as a tool of fear and was really just a big gun they could shoot at anyone they didn't like.
>>
>>82486894
The Gungans' technology isn't a viable concern for how TFA turned out since they are trying to write-out the Prequels.
>>
>>82487032
Pretty much. Hux's speech seemed to indicate (I'll say "seemed" because it can be argued a number of different ways what he was actually saying) that they'd shoot the Senate, destroy the Republic fleets in the process, and the rest of the galaxy would meekly fall in line because the First Order would have a gun to their heads.

But now they've lost their gun. But that's fine, they're copying the Imperial playbook to an insane level so no doubt they either have a spare or are already on their way to rebuilding.

At least the Poe comic showed another First Order ship, and mentioned another class of ship, so mercifully they have more than just the Finalizer dicking about the galaxy.
>>
>>82487142
>The Gungans' technology isn't a viable concern for how TFA turned out since they are trying to write-out the Prequels.

They're doing a pretty bad job with Kylo Ren telling Hux they should be using a clone army and talking about balancing the Force within the first ten minutes, in addition to the other Prequel connections throughout TFA, the books, and comics, and more.

When are they going to announce Star Wars comics that don't revolve around the main cast of the OT? I'm getting kinda tired of them staying in their comfort zone. Give me some goddamn scruffy smuggler/swashbucklers that don't have to worry about reflecting poorly on the films.

...really all I want is a New Republic era series that deals with cleaning up the Imperial Warlords and dicking over the First Order. You know, glory days of Camelot type shit. Who knows, maybe after Star Wars Rebels is concluded Filoni will be put to work filling in the space between Episode 6 and 7. That'd be nice I think.

I mean I like Luke and Han and Leia and everything, but I think Disney is pushing them and the OT way too hard. Or maybe I don't find the current story lines they're giving the characters as enjoyable as the old EU ones? It's hard to say. Like I want them to tangle with an Imperial Baron or some Black Sun Pirates. Do some Robin Hood type shenanigans.

>A Maxima-A class heavy cruiser

>>
>>82488659
I'm not going to start complaining until they knock out their major characters first.

Characters they still need to cover before moving onto expanded stuff:
>Luke
>R2D2 (maybe)
>Padme
>Kylo Ren

Once those ones are covered, then I will expect them to start with more stories that we have never seen before. Stuff like the old republic
>>
>>82488827
>I think Disney is pushing them and the OT way too hard
We've know that and why for some time now. When kickstarting the sequels, which were building off the OT, they had to move people, especially the younger fans, into that era. The OT ended in the early 80s, the Prequels were what had been the primary focus for over a decade. They needed to play catchup so they've devoted their resources to this area with the intent of easing people into the Sequels. Eventually when the Sequels are out they'll devote most of their focus THERE with the intent of fleshing it out.

The Obrez is sawn-off Mosin nagant which is one of the most mass-produced bolt-action rifles in history. It's easy to produce, tough and uses a common ammo type. If WWII when the russians were fighting the Nazis in enclosed city spaces a large rifle may have been inappropriate for building-to-building fights and semi-automatics and pistols would have been less common and less tough than the nugget.

So to say that it's not a useful weapon is over-simplifying things

I swear to god the boss health bar is regenerating. This was not what I imagined for raids. I was hoping it would have been smaller, personal, WINNABLE battles which become successively more difficult and where each individual guild member's victory would contribute to an overall raid score and you'd have to reach a certain collective score to complete the raid.

Instead it's a horrific series of pig rapes that coincidentally (or not) mirrors the way EA treats its gamers.

The series didn't end. I guess. Is Andromeda still a thing?

Star Wars seems to have the right idea sticking to its own galaxy. There's always weird shit you can explore in your own backyard. Galaxies are big places. No sense running over to the neighbor to borrow sugar and spice when you can get both on Ryloth.

Extra-galactic visitations by the same token are a bit silly, but if done right it could be worth it. I wish TCWs had been able to use that Vong Close Encounters idea, shit would have been surreal.
>>
>>82505907
>Is Andromeda still a thing?
Think so. But the lead writer left the team recently, so who knows what's actually going on there.
>>
>>82505907
As much as I loved Mass Effect, the fact that was a trilogy and ending of 3 made it hard to continuein a story form(I don't know if Andromeda continues from 3 or not) but when it comes to the story or worldbuilding, Dragon Age is easier to make a sequel to

Imagine having to take down the Level 80 Gear IX Heroic raid in two days. Guild chatter was about using coins to retreat but I never saw the option. All I know is the moment I knock down the boss' gamorrean buddies he just respawns them almost immediately, so it's like there isn't any point in attacking them until they taunt and force you to. Quite frankly the whole thing sucks.
>>
>>82506061
Last I heard Andromeda was something like centuries after the last game and with action removed to the Andromeda Galaxy (shocker!) while promising a "fresh and unique" main character. Whatever the hell that means.

I really hate that EA has the lockdown on the Star Wars game license because they can't seem to manage any property.
>>
>>82506886
I find myself zeroing in on the left one first. It's bad enough for it to taunt, but the last thing I want is something that has both taunt and retaliate active. And if I ignore them, then I risk follow-ups.

Fortunately, there's no time limit, and you respawn your lost units at the end of the day. It's gonna be REALLY tedious to finish this, though, but I suppose that's the name of the game in general.
>>
>>82506973
>while promising a "fresh and unique" main character. Whatever the hell that means.
Either that they're the same as Shepherd or he's a black marshmallow that identifies as white.
>>
>>82506973
>I really hate that EA has the lockdown on the Star Wars game license because they can't seem to manage any property.
Same here. I'm hoping that the canon team will keep them in check so we don't get anything too retarded. I'm mostly just excited because 1: these games will likely be set in more exciting eras like the ST or PT, 2: even if they're in the OT we'll probably get some really cool new designs like the new Troopers from Rogue One, and 3: I can't wait to see more Star Wars stuff in modern graphics since Battlefront already gives me a boner visually.
>>
>>82507047
I assume it just means they'll have plenty of dialogue options that only reflect the absolute ridiculous extremes and won't really change the plot significantly, if at all. I'm sure someone has the TOR dialogue pic handy.

No matter what happens I'll always hate EA. ME3 was everything it shouldn't have been. Three exactly the same endings, all your partners disappeared. I never expected them to give all the consequences or answers but they really, really showed how you fuck up a trilogy. Even if the original creators left I still don't understand why or how they could write something so bad. The first two ME games were pretty great games in the end, even if they had some samey choices and all. Not to mention the music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IitCQCaKi3E

Ok this is fucking retarded.

He didn't even replace the flags with anything. They were nods for fans to enjoy, and he removed them, and didn't even replace them.

He also removed Ziro's insignia. (At least, I couldn't see it.)

If he replaced them with new stuff that could be used for future stories, it'd be ok. But all this has done was take something fans liked, and removed it. Because he didn't want a reference to Podracing? (Which I thought was one of the things people really liked about TPM?)

Why?

I can only take solace in the fact that Hondo's flag is still there.

What I love about Abrams interviews is that a lot of the time he's basically admitting to having done something wrong, but trying to spin it in a positive way.

Like how he's pretty much admitting that the movie is a remake of ANH, but spins it with his "have to go backwards to go forward" nonsense. I'd like someone to call him on his "come up with our stuff" comment and see if we get the same "well yeah I blatantly copied a lot of stuff BUT..." response.

So, isn't this just history repeating itself? GL directed the prequels, sure, but now we have one movie that's a copy of ANH and there's two movies left. Most trilogies are the other way around, they start off great and the third movie is the bad one. What I don't understand is why they never showed the knights of Ren destroying the jedi. It seems exactly like the kind of thing a more actiony movie would have but Abrams decided to skip it.
>>
>>82510138
He's producer on both 8 and 9, but he is not the director. He has zero involvement in the spin-offs, or any of the comics, books, ect.

After 9, he will probably exit the franchise forever.

Although, I have a gut feeling that he will be back if they ever do a Live-Action show...

The guy directs decently, but he is such a smug prick, it makes me uncomfortable to even listen to him in interviews, and I feel like he doesn't really care about the fans at all, but rather how the fans see him. That's why he was pushing "Practical effects!" so hard prior to the movie's release. I think he just wanted all the OT purists to see him as the Anti-Lucas, the guy who "saved" Star Wars, ect. He doesn't actually give that much of a fuck about the franchise. He clearly loved ANH, there's no denying that, but I honestly dont think he ever truly cared much past that.

Which is why it's hilariously ironic that he went and digitally changed something for the Blu-Ray that he personally didn't like, despite it having no effect on the movie and literally nobody complaining about it if they even noticed it. Even better when he insisted there'd be no Director's Cut because the released film was what he intended.

It's funny because at their core the prequels story is a great idea. There's a great villain, the republic falls, the fall of the jedi order, the rise of one of the greatest sith lords of all time, Darth Vader betrays the jedi order, countless people dying and clones and robots. It all feels very Star Wars too. Epic heroes and with CG they could have shot more scenes in space than before etc.

TFA was enjoyable. There's no denying that. I just feel like we deserved better, and, lets face it, something more original.

Then JJ digitally removing flags because they reference stuff he doesn't like, well that's just disgusting hypocrisy. I am glad he is not doing 8, that's all I can say.

As >>82510878 said, it didn't feel like a next step in the saga at all. If JJ was trying to take one step back, and two forward, then he fucked up. It was more like three steps back, and then a running start where he almost trips on his shoelaces.

>>82507154
>I can't wait to see more Star Wars stuff in modern graphics since Battlefront already gives me a boner visually.

I firmly believe that the until the EA Star Wars deal expires, we'll receive mostly disappointment. I respect and admire the aesthetics of the products and the skill involved, but the end result is going to continue to be lacking, like battlefront. Battlefront obviously looks great visually, sounds great auditorily, but everything else is awful. I can't get excited, because I know exactly what we're going to get, and I know I'm not going to like it. There's too much precedence to ignore.
>>
>>82510876
It feels just like a Star Wars movie should feel, imo. Funny, adventurous, energetic, emotional. The pacing is much faster than in the other six, but the pacing of ANH was also very fast compared to the movies of it's time.
Also, everyone calls TFA a copy of ANH, but that's wrong. It is actually more like a new version of the entire OT. Act 1 is similar to ANH, act 2 is like TESB (especially the vision and Kylo hunting Rey) and act 3 is more like ROTJ with the lightsaber battle climax on the Death Star. I don't see it as pandering, I see it as a respectful nod to the OT.

I don't know, not much happens. In the middle in the movie there's CG monsters and then they go meet second Yoda and destroy third Death Star. Pacing felt all over the place to be honest.
>Also, everyone calls TFA a copy of ANH, but that's wrong

>>

It doesn't help that we already know they intentionally made this one "for the fans." The heavy nostalgia factor was deliberate and it's one of the things that didn't set well with Lucas back when he was still being consulted.
>>
>>82510827
I'm not seeing a lot of hatred. People aren't happy with all the design choices and even some of the changes. I liked it well enough, it was perfectly serviceable jumping off point, but I can still feel a lot of disappointment in how much of a retread it was. Still it is something that can be built off of.

It's really rather like the Prequels in many ways. Or rather something of an inversion. If the Prequels can be seen as excellent at world(galaxy) building but the story was a mess, then TFA has a decent story that sadly doesn't expand much on the Star Wars galaxy and does a horrible job letting us know exactly what the state of the post-Endor galaxy even is. To be fair ANH didn't go into much details but they had it easy. Evil empire with a small ragtag band of heroic rebels resisting them is easy. We don't even know the scale and scope of the First Order, why nobody but the Resistance was doing anything about them, or things like they cracked unlimited energy which is key to Starkiller Base but never mentioned anywhere in the movie. It's woefully at odds with the background material when, since this is the first major installment of their new trilogy, should be where the tie-ins are the MOST cohesive since that was their stated intention of making one unbroken canon.

It's all rather confusing, frankly.

What you see as "borrowed plot/story/imagery" I just see as "Star Wars". Seriously, have you ever complained about Zelda always being about Link saving princess Zelda from a villain by doing the same water/earth/fire dungeons over and over again?
Or about Indiana Jones always being about Indy trying to stop an evil organisation from getting a dangerous artifact to rule the world? Or about Terminator 2 having almost the exact same plot as Terminator 1?

Star Wars will always be about a rag tag group of underdogs fighting an evil Empire that is being controlled by a bad guy in a black robe and a red lightsaber. And it will always be about family and their conflicts. I guess the prequels were just so different that people don't even realise what Star Wars has always been about. And it's not just the movies. Look at Kotor. Thousands of years ago and the imagery is the same as in the movies. Why? Because that's how Star Wars is supposed to look like.
>>
>>82511296
>What you see as "borrowed plot/story/imagery" I just see as "Star Wars".
But we've seen dozens of times that it's possible to make Star Wars without having to copy and paste the plot of one of the movies and slap TIEs and X-Wings all over it. If you didn't mind that, that's great, but you need to understand why this was frustrating for some of us. Each of the movies did something different than the others- even ROTJ, which dipped quite a bit into the ANH well by giving us Tatooine again and another Death Star. This was something Lucas did intentionally, he liked to keep things fresh.

TFA was designed specifically to avoid this and just go "hey, remember this? wasn't it great? here it is again!" and there's very little in the way of genuinely new ideas.

Just because they had similar overarching plots, it doesn't mean that the plot has to be a direct copy. Would you honestly the plot to ESB is the same as ANH?

Of course not. You can say that they're both about Luke/rebels vs. empire/Vader, but their plots have far more variety between them than ANH and TFA have.

Also, why wouldn't we want to see universes and stories being expanded?
>>
>>82511296
>Or about Indiana Jones always being about Indy trying to stop an evil organisation from getting a dangerous artifact to rule the world?
Funny you should bring this up, since Last Crusade was specifically designed to evoke Raiders. Spielberg understood people were upset that Temple was so different and basically made Crusade into Raiders 2: Sorry About The Last One, Here's More of the Same.

Kennedy and Abrams just did this exact same thing. Substitute the prequels for Temple and TFA for Crusade and this is pretty much what just happened.
>>
>>82511203
>It's all rather confusing, frankly.
But it isn't. It's a complete fanservice movie, a movie created by men in suits without any creatives behind it. Which creates this bland movie that's dumb beyond belief. The entire movie is copy and paste and the end result is seriously nothing. Everyone said Han Solo's death was "emotional" but fuck me, I cared when he was frozen in ESB but felt nothing in TFA. I don't even think he needed to be in the movie, really. Luke in particular should have played a bigger role. Yet we don't know anything about him, Han gets killed, Yoda 2 for whatever reason has his lightsaber, and Kylo has Darth Vader's mask for the sake of pandering.
>>
>>82511296
>Seriously, have you ever complained about Zelda always being about Link saving princess Zelda from a villain by doing the same water/earth/fire dungeons over and over again?
The plot isn't the point of Zelda, and even if dungeon themes tend to be re-used, the actual dungeon layout and puzzles vary wildly. The fire dungeon in one game tends to be very different from the fire dungeon in the next game.
>>
>>82511296
>Seriously, have you ever complained about Zelda always being about Link saving princess Zelda from a villain by doing the same water/earth/fire dungeons over and over again?
Yeah, but they're games, smarty-pants, not movies. Most games don't have a deep story to begin with and even in the universe it's that Link is ALWAYS the hero so he does what he needs to do. And T2 sucked ass compared to Terminator.
>>
>>82511380
>"hey, remember this? wasn't it great? here it is again!"

And the prequels didn't do that? They literally made an army of Boba Fett's. Chewbacca was in it for absolutely no reason, Anakin built C-3PO, almost every scene had a lightsaber in it (because everyone loves lightsabers), Darth Vader just had to appear in ROTS to appease the fans etc.
Sure, the prequels introduced many new things (and many of them were bad, like Anakin being Jesus), but TFA did too. Ever seen a bad guy who is drawn to the light in a movie before? Or a deserting stormtrooper? Or what about the new force abilities or the concept of a sun-eating superweapon?

You guys are being overly critical.

>Wait what? Terminator 2 is the best sequel ever made, right after The Empire Strikes Back. It's much better than part 1 in every way.
Terminator 2 was a movie for pussies, though. It's R rated yet it lacks all the grit the first movie had and felt like a popcorn movie. Which you could argue it is since it's an action movie, but the first movie really did feel like the Terminator was this evil robot that only wanted to murder this woman. In T2 he became a joke and the villain didn't feel threatening at all.

>>
>>82511805
Any fanbase is prone to overanalysis and any discontent will, you can bet your life, be voiced. Even back as far as TPM people had to admit that no matter how the Prequels were done people would STILL be disappointed because you just cannot live up to the hype the movie generates.
>>
>>82511714
Sure, the prequels had references, but even then they still did a lot new. Half of the "new" stuff you're listing in TFA is something that's already been done. Finn's story is one of the few genuinely new things- even the idea of Starkiller is just another Death Star (something that's even pointed out in the movie itself for fuck's sake). The mechanics are different, but they're also completely irrelevant to the way it's used.

> Ever seen a bad guy who is drawn to the light in a movie before?
A reluctant villain isn't a mind-blowing concept. Even in Star Wars, we saw this with Vader, and the entire point of his character in ROTJ is that Luke sees that light in him, and even Vader realizes it but spends the majority of the movie trying to deny it. Just because we didn't get a scene of Vader saying "I feel the pull of the light" doesn't mean it wasn't there. Hell, the entire reason Kylo is worried about the "pull to the light" is because he's fully aware that this was what caused Vader to "fail" at the end. He doesn't want to succumb to the same weakness.
>>
>>82511926
It's sad, really. Sometimes I wonder what the "fans" actually like about Star Wars. Even Empire was criticsed when it was released back then.
>>
>>82511926
>you just cannot live up to the hype the movie generates.
Nah, it's possible. But fans will always compare your greatest work to whatever you create so it creates this "But it didn't beat Hamlet" reaction. Fans are basically your best fans because they'll read everything you make, but are also the most critical because they care.
>>
>>82511714
>almost every scene had a lightsaber in it

I'm not sure why people are surprised that a film set before the OT that is focused on the Twilight of the Jedi has lightsabers in it.

>Darth Vader just had to appear in ROTS to appease the fans
Prequels are all about the rise and fall of Anankin. Of course it ends like that.
>>
I think JJ should have looked at Metal Gear to see a good way to pull off pottery. MGS3 is a recreation of the events between Solid Snake and Big Boss in MG1 and MG2 but this time it's between Big Boss and The Boss. It recreated almost everything from the first 2 MSX games but it doesn't feel like it because you don't infiltrate a base called Outward Heavens and burn The Boss to death using a lighter and hair spray can.
>>
>>82512045
>Prequels are all about the rise and fall of Anankin.

To be fair, they didn't have to be about Anakin's fall. Lucas could've also made them about the fall of the Republic in general or even about Obi Wan becoming a Jedi Knight during the clone wars. The reason why he gave Anakin such an important role is because Vader is the most popular Star Wars character. That's it.
>>
>>82512173
>The reason why he gave Anakin such an important role is because Vader is the most popular Star Wars character. That's it.
He was pretty central to the story that needed to be told, though. It would've been very hard to do a story about the fall of the Jedi and the rise of the Empire without giving Anakin a major role.

There's a lot of stuff he clearly did for the sake of pandering (such as involving Boba Fett in any way) but Anakin being the main focus of the prequels isn't one of them.
>>
>>82511979
I think what bugs me about TFA is how I can't recall any scenes that managed to stand out. Not necessarily great moments of dialogue but just visually. TPM had the droid armies amassing against the gungans, the massive shield generator, the pod racing. ATOCs had some the massive battle after the clones are revealed. ROTS had the opening space battle and even little things like the weird water opera still stand out to me.

TFA felt too by-the-numbers. Maz's castle had nothing of note in it. Starkiller and the oscillator ditto. The Resistance scenes may have still been on Maz's planet for as much difference. Stoney ruins and trees. What could have been the most interesting, the ship ruins of Jakku, never really were dealt with much. Rey did a drive by early on and then they had a standard chase scene. Starkiller destroying Hosnian Prime didn't really feel like it had any impact. It's like, "Here's a cantina, here's not-Alderaan being blown up, and we're moving on."

Curiously what people clung to were very little things. TR-8R waving his baton around became a hit and is still the most brought up scene, albeit thanks to mememagic.

>>82512022
The sad part about TFA is seeing how people were REALLY excited at first and came out happy and then eventually they realized there wasn't much worth talking about since thematically and even sometimes scene for scene it was a copy of ANH and other parts of the OT.

Of course it WAS deliberate, but still sad they played it so safe the first time. They REALLY need someone with vision spearheading these projects. Not saying they need Lucas back but someone like him, someone who can work with a creative team and doesn't just have everything he says agreed to because of who he is.

Okay, here I go. Han is gone from the movie. Leia and Luke are (obviously) still relevant. The new villain is introduced with Kylo and the new order and they have to fight against the republic but rely on other means because they're not the big dogs anymore. Finn defects because the new order does some really fucked up shit and it's too much for him. Not killing some peasants or whatever, but something more than that. Maybe killing in greater numbers. Rey needs a place in the story and it could be that she and Finn meets because Finn simply needs someone that can fly a ship. Luke and the others have to fight back and try to convince the reps to do something. The reps doesn't want a full out war so they refuse. At the end of the movie the new order delivers a killing blow and destroy Luke's jedi and Kylo shows that A) He's a credible threat and B) The new order might not have the size of the empire but they're elite and they don't show any remorse. And that's my TFA. What do you think?
>>
>>82512277
>I think what bugs me about TFA is how I can't recall any scenes that managed to stand out.

Scenes that stood out for me:

>Kylo hitting his wounds.
>Rey pulling the lightsaber and realizing her destiny
>Kylo stopping the blaster bolt
>Poe giving Finn an actual name and treating him like a normal person during their escape
>Rey's silent introduction. Beautifully done. No dialogue was needed.
>The opening sequence. Never did I care this much about stormtroopers before.
>Han's growth as a character. In the end, he became the same "old fool" as the guy he made fun of in ANH

And that was just off the top of my head. There is so much to like about this movie that I couldn't give a shit about the third death star or the boring locations.
>>
Here's a game. You have only 20 seconds to name things you remember from TFA. GO
>Finn
>Stormtroopers
>Han talking to Finn in the snow

Now you have 20 seconds to name things from ANH. GO

>Han and Luke in the prison area.

TFA copied scenes/themes. Prequels were "inspired" by concepts. thats a bigger issue(obvious parallelism) than space opera story which connects every event/character.

TFA was a good movie, but it feels like they wasted a movie too just for fan service. it was a good intro for entry fans for star wars though. Lots of potential wasted
>>
>>82512486
All of those things are pretty minor, some are downright generic, and don't really lend much to atmosphere or are even visually impressive. People like to play up that blaster bolt so I guess it's worth noting but it really wasn't a very interesting scene. He didn't do anything with it, just froze it until suddenly it went on it's merry way. It lacked even the badass cred of Vader bitchslapping Han's shots and then disarming him. That was taking an established hero who is used to shooting first (since the whole Special Edition was still over a decade away when Empire came out) and rendering him completely harmless. We have no idea WHAT Poe's abilities are yet so just stopping a blaster bolt which we've see Jedi and Sith deflect anyway albeit with their blades just wasn't anything to write home about.

Han's character is the only thing that really stood out, but in many ways it was like he was doing what he did in The Crystal Skull by being a cool father figure who doesn't care if you fix motorcycles for a living as long as it is something you like doing. And they both had total shits for sons. The only key difference is we never saw Han slap off Kylo Ren's mask and tell him he's going to a real college and not another Force Vocational School.
>>
>>82512486

You know, a lot probably could've been prevented if he'd done that in the first place.

Lightsaber pulling is iconic and memorable? I mean it wasn't a bad scene but we got that with Luke in the Wampa's cave. First time we saw him rely on the Force to actually manipulate an object as opposed to passively using it as his guide. We even had the blade stuck in the snow when Kylo Ren was first trying to yank it so it comes off as another blatant scene nab from JJ.

Why the fuck is this even being made? We could have gotten a Goodfellas type Bounty Hunting movie with Boba Fett as the main character trying to pull off the biggest bounty of all time but instead we get this shit. Fuck you know what I just figured out too? They're totally going to make that shit George wanted canon where Han and his parents crashed on Kashyyk and he grew up with Chewbacca after he was orphaned. We're going to get Tarzan Han.
>>
>>82513194
What, you don't want a movie about how Han Solo faces off against the galaxy's deadiest bounty hunter Cad Bane who is tracking him as he makes an important run in Lando's ship the Millennium Falcon, that leads him to making the Kessel Run in under 12 parsecs thereby earning the man's respect, his love, and even his hat

which Han pawns for a few credits so he can get in a sabaac game with Lando so he can win the Falcon for his very own.
>>
>>82513046
I haven't seen anything he's in so I have no idea how good an actor he is, but he doesn't look anything like Ford.
>>
>>82513194
Pablo said that the Han Solo movie was literally Lucas's idea and first suggestion for a spin off, so, yeah, that's probably exactly what we're getting.
>>
>>82513194
>>82513379
I think even George realized that idea was stupid. Like it got as far as concept art and early scripts where little Han is hanging with Yoda and Chewie at the command center, but it got thrown out quick.

I get the feeling they'll probably do a variant of the "Han liberated Chewie from slavery, starting a life debt" thing from the old EU.
>>
>>82513519
>Han liberated Chewie from slavery, starting a life debt
>"Han, you freed me from slavery, I'm now your slave."
>Growl growl growl
>Han Solo, "WHAT?!"
>>
>>82513294
Let's spitball ways they can make this movie great.
>no stupid references to Han moments in the OT
>make the movie similar to Goodfellas where it's about Han and Chewie figuring out ways to fuck over some crime syndicate and retire early off millions of credits. Maybe even explain that Han tried to fuck over the Hutts and got indebted to Jabba after bullshitting his way out of an execution from Jabba's guards after getting caught
>make the movie show the slimiest places and people in Star Wars. Show Narr Shadda. Show greasy aliens selling spice in a dirty cantina as torgruta's wearing excessive make-up dance around them
>more weird space music like how they did in the Order 66 arc of TCW when Fives was in the cab. Imagine this song (with lyrics in an alien language) playing from a radio while Han and Chewie get in a shootout in a cantina on Narr Shadda: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gw8c2Cq-vpg
>have Han get out of every single situation in the movie by either killing his enemies, getting lucky, or bullshitting his way out of it
>make the movie really colorful. You're given potentially the most colorful aspect of Star Wars (alien gangs, cantinas, space drugs, spaceship races, etc) Don't do what they did with the first X-Men movies where you took a colorful comic book and turned into a boring silver/black turd.
>>
I want the Han Solo movie to succeed though because I want other spin-offs. I guess they have to play it safe for their first spin-off.
>>
>>82513569
>>more weird space music like how they did in the Order 66 arc of TCW when Fives was in the cab. Imagine this song (with lyrics in an alien language) playing from a radio while Han and Chewie get in a shootout in a cantina on Narr Shadda: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gw8c2Cq-vpg

It depends on whether or not Lucas still wanted to do the idea from ROTS. He abandoned it pretty quickly, but it's not clear if it was because he didn't want to spend time on Han in an already busy movie, if he thought it wasn't such a great idea, or both. We've known Lucas to change his mind about backstory stuff before.

Han is popular, but it's a case where those that really, REALLY like Han are more vocal, making it seem like he has a massive following when it's more a case of everyone liking Han but only a small minority liking him enough to buy Han stuff.

Same with the Han/Greedo thing. I think most people don't really care that much, but it's a few really vocal people who, 19 years later, still feel the need to bring it up and complain loudly about it.

"Did you know that BlasTech, BlasTech. Did you see it yesterday? BlasTech is closing a factory on Corellia, and they’re moving to First Order space. This big factory. And taking many jobs. I think they’re about 1,200 jobs going to be lost in First Order space. No more DL-44s. They make DL-44s, don’t they, right? No more DL-44s. I don’t like DL-44s anymore."

"Senator Leia Solo is calling for a total and complete shutdown of First Order civilians entering the Republic until our galaxy's representatives can figure out what is going on. According to Pew Research, among others, there is great hatred towards the Republic by large segments of the First Order population. Most recently, a poll from the Center for Security Policy released data showing "25% of those polled agreed that violence against the Republic is justified as a part of the Galactic Civil War" and 51% of those polled, "agreed that First Order sympathisers in the Republic should have the choice of being governed by Supreme Leader Snoke." Snoke authorizes such atrocities as murder against Senators who won't convert to the Imperial system, child brainwashing and more unthinkable acts that pose great harm to the Republic."

>>
>>82514094
I have the feeling the Resistance is still going to be the huge underdog in Episode VIII. The Republic will be busy licking it's wounds and trying to put it's government back together.

At the least the Republic could blame or mistrust Leia. Either claiming there is no proof that the First Order did anything to Hosnian Prime (as long as the FO didn't openly declare their actions) or that Leia provoked it with her aggressive Resistance attacking them.

Or they could actually have the NR get it's shit in order and ready for payback, only to tell the Resistance to go home and let the big boys handle things. Seems unlikely since they'd want the good guys to be at a disadvantage so if the NR military shows up I'd expect them to get their shit kicked in.

Another option...I'm not sure if this is even more unlikely or maybe less unlikely since TFA avoided politics as if it was the plague. Still there is some potential merit in the idea that Snoke and the FO has managed to sneak sympathizers into the new Senate, maybe even the new Chancellor. Working to sabotage and undermine the NR, weaken it, blame Leia, stall military action, and maybe even push towards making a new treaty with the FO and join together, that they don't have to be at odds. That last one at least is a definite longshot.

I think the New Republic will get it's shit together in Episode 8. I think in Bloodlines they explain that there are First Order sympathisers in the senate but they end up leaving to join the First Order at the end of the book giving the First Order a good chunk of the galaxy. I think that combined with the fact that Leia's 'prepare for a First Order attack' story arc is pretty much done in TFA along with the fact that most people hated how the Resistance were just -not-rebels will mean that in Episode 8 what's left of the New Republic will join the Resistance (probably with Leia as the new Chancellor) and they will have Clone Wars 2: Electric Boogalo with the First Order.

I think this is probably what will happen:

>Empire is destroyed.
>Some imperials fuck off to the Unknown Regions where Sheev was investigating Snoke's presence.
>New Republic takes control of the whole galaxy.
>Empire becomes First Order AKA space North Korea.
>First Order starts lobbying New Republic senators.
>New Republic is now split between Centrists (people who want a strong federal govt) and Populists (people who want smaller govt). Basically as Gavin Mcinnes puts it 'People who want to be left alone and people who won't leave them the fuck alone.'
>(Kind of spoiler for Bloodlines) It's leaked that Leia's dad was Darth Vader. New Republic loses trust in her and she fucks off to create the Resistance.
>(Kind of spoiler for Bloodlines) First Order sympathiser senators make their worlds part of First Order territory.
>TFA happens.
>New Republic is a disorganized mess but some planets realize Leia was right and openly support the Resistance in Episode 8.
>In Episode 9 they destroy the First Order and Leia probably ends up Chancellor of the New Republic with Luke and Rey teaching a new generation of Jedi. True peace in the galaxy.

>>
>>82516206
When I run it through my head I keep coming up with the idea that the New Republic, however fine and dandy, it IS the symbol that the good guys won in the OT, will need to take more hits.

The FO needs to be a legitimate threat. And I would hope, and pray to the goddamn Force, it won't be yet another doomsday weapon. The nice thing about the Prequel Era is that shit went down without Death Stars and Starkillers. Things like the Malevolence, super tanks on Geonosis, okay, but it was manipulation, cunning, and guile on a massive scale. Not saying Snoke has to be a new Sheev but there's something about that guy. He gets under your skin, and can get in your head. If he taught Kylo Ren how to dig around in people's thoughts like that, an ability we hadn't really seen (though we've seen plenty of similar things). If he's some kind of mind controlling monster, then yeah I can see that working.

I mean how did he come to rule the First Order? Some guy from out of nowhere manages to get placed in charge of a bunch of ex-Imperials who all have their own monster egos and ambitions? They bow down to this wounded guy who comes out of nowhere and call him Supreme Leader?
>>

>>
>>82516501
Yeah I can't see it myself. The new guy may be able to pull off a young Han Solo but not something right before ANH (which doesn't quite make sense anyway given timing, being hugely convenient). Maybe, MAYBE, a cameo, but other than that I see them doing the whole de-aging stuff Disney likes to use. Jeff Bridges or Robert Downey Jr.
>>
>>82516231
>In Episode 9 they destroy the First Order and Leia probably ends up Chancellor of the New Republic with Luke and Rey teaching a new generation of Jedi. True peace in the galaxy.

Not for long, though. Episode 10 will be out a year later. They'll have to face the Second Order with their massive galaxy destroying superweapon.
>>
>>82516419
The only thing I can come up with as to why the FO bent over backwards for the first new Dark Wizard they came across, because that worked out for them SO fucking well the last time (at least they got over a quarter century as the Empire), is that they're actually scared of the Jedi. They know Luke turned things around and their Emperor died because of him.

I say that because Snoke actually acts like stopping any new return of the Jedi is to get Skywalker. He says it right in front of Hux. The Senate, the New Republic, are treated as a secondary objective and the use of Starkiller was approved to stop the Resistance from finding Luke. I think-maybe- he came to them and said if he could wipe out Luke's Order with his Knights of Ren they'd listen to him.

That or the whole mental domination angle. Granted if a Force user walked into a meeting of ex-Imperials he could easily choke the lot of them with the Force so that's a pretty good inducement towards cooperation, but the FO really seems to practically worship Snoke.
>>
>>82516557
>Second Order
>not a bunch of second rate jobbers botching their way to victory
>>
>>82516724
They could use the old EU idea of a powerful Force User being able to dominate the minds of others. Maybe the First Order are all under Snoke's spell, so to speak. If he's the one who taught Kylo to read minds it's possible he also knows how to bend them to his will.
>>
>>82516762
More like turns out the First Order were just chumps, throwaway pawns, and Snoke has a secret army of Knights.

Then the FO and Resistance have to join forces. Aftewards Hux and Leia make out. It's the Christmas Cake none of us asked for.
>>
>>>/x/17660753

>>
>>82516763
Sidious could, but I'm not sure how long it lasts. He dominated a twi'lek girl in Lords of the Sith. It was complete enough that they could threaten her life in front of her and she wouldn't notice. It basically made her think they were her best friends. She was oblivious. Granted she was a young kid but the Emperor is a pretty tough cookie anyway, and the Sith don't seem to have any concerns about potentially causing people's brains to rocket out their ears if they apply too much pressure.

Kind of why what Kylo Ren did was interesting but if it were the Emperor he wouldn't read your head, he'd just make you tell him all your secrets. Then he'd probably make you do something horrible and final to yourself as he watched and cackled.

I don't know. we have so little intel on Sith mind techniques. Ventress tried to Mind Trick Rex which didn't really work. We never saw what Vader tried on Leia. Besides that ball droid (Kylo Ren had a FO version when he interrogated Poe).

There might be something in the books I haven't read.

They believe in the Jedi, in Luke having the Force, and they know the rumors of what their Emperor was. Tashu, fruitcake that he is, was a Dark Side worshiper and talked about going beyond the edges of their maps (which is what the Unknown Regions is, btw), something about the source of Palpatine's powers. Sheev even sent people there. Another book might hint at what happened to them.

This mod is to re-balance KotOR to reflect the changes made in KotOR in regards to class progression, and the gaining of feats, powers, and skills.

Changes:
--------
1. All Classes - now all classes have the same attack rating
- Health automatically regenerates slowly outside combat

2. Jedi Guardian - gains Demolitions as class skill
- gains two extra feats

3. Jedi Sentinel - gains Computer Use, Stealth and Security as class skills
- gains two extra skill points
- gains two extra feats

4. Jedi Consular - gains two extra force powers
- gains double skill points
- loses Demolitions and Computer Use as class skills

----

The yet-to-play KOTOR anon here, should I get that rebalance/does it seem like it'd improve gameplay?

Well, I'm not surprised that it exists, but that it's been only added in 2007.

Rebels is better than TFA despite being a kids show vs a multi million dollar movie.

The Pirates of the Caribbean sequels did it better.

>Jedi Consular
>loses Demolitions and Computer Use as class skills
>loses Computer Use

Buff every class and nerf the class/skill loadout I used? Fuck that.

Personal bias aside, no. It buffs two and a half classes and curtails a playstyle for no balance reason whatsoever. These changes aren't even necessary, it seems like the mod maker created it for personal use and released it anyway.

Ah, thanks for the heads-up, I'm scrounging for what's still left of KOTOR mods, since gamefront/filefront went down a lot of mods seem to have been lost.

All of Gamefront was archived by ArchiveTeam so the mods are saved. You can browse and download them through The Wayback Machine.

Personally, I don't think you need mods except stuff like Widescreen. But if you want to mod it and this is your first time playing, I'd encourage you to follow this guide.

Oh wow, thanks, it didn't click that I could use the archive! I've come across the list, but also found some content restore and bug fix mods that might be to new on it - still, I'm glad I found something to fix that walking animation.

Yeah, the Mod Guide is in the process of being updated, so it is a bit wonky and other mods/fixes that have come out since them may be more to your liking. Don't forget Deadlystream is your friend when it comes to Restoration compatibility for either game.
