Lobster Johnson is fun, in the style of old comic serials.
Seven Soldiers of Victory was where I started when I tried to like capes.
Astro City if you want to give capes another shot is good, too. The Barbie issue is a good place to start, if you're skeptical.
Fables is entertaining.
FROM HELL is a pretty amazing comic about a turn of the century and women.
The Vision is a fun ongoing. Capes again, though, well written.
