So something very important is happening on Wed., the final issue of Hellboy in Hell is coming out and it might possibly be the final Hellboy in a "modern" setting. Since it has been about a year and it is a monumental occasion I'm going to redo the Chronological Mignolaverse storytimes from last year to celebrate/mourn the event.
For those unaware of the threads from last year I went through every page of every comic from the Mignolaverse and put them in roughly chronological order.Heres a link to them all in order if you want to read them on your own https://mega.nz/#F!fNZmmC4D!HyV78B7Y0MV-jz2xbFaNfA
>>82359523
Go on story time it
Oh shit, based ChroMiganon is going to do his thing again?
Nice
>>82359699
>One day your city kicks ass
>The next there's fucking elephants roaming around, eating your lawn
Sucks to be a Hyperboran
>>82359778
Maybe don't fuck around with God's fire.
>>82359833
The choice of elephants as an animal that symbolizes the take over of nature in the aftermath of mans fall is really silly, though
>>82359896
I think they are mammoths.
>>82360219
Shit, this is like the Sledgehammer or whatever Johans shell is called
>>82360245
It is all Vril energy, or God's Fire. What created everything and molded the body of the Ogdru Jahad
>>82359896
>>82359969
BRO THEY NEVER FORGET
ELEPHANTS BRO
THEY STILL REMEMBER THOSE HYPERBOREALIS DUDES
I'm just gonna download and read on my own, but shit op, you're a cool dude.
But what's this about Hellboy in Hell wrapping up already? I thought it was just going to be a "whenever Mignola has time" kind of thing. I like to stick away from Hellboy interviews and stuff so I won't get spoiled from anything, but I thought I remember one I did read mentioning how Mignola wanted it to be that way for a while.
Was the basically non-existant release schedule just not working for Dark Horse or something?
>>82360770
He said he has done what he wanted to do, there was more stories he said he had but he felt that it would take away from it.
>>82360883
this guy is pretty rad
Here's actually the first new part from last year. I decided to put it after the previous part because it looks like Gall Denar made some adjustments to the handle of the Hyperborian blade and his clothing looks more developed.
>>82360923
Gall Denar is one of the best
>>82360840
Dang that's a bummer. I hope he changes his mind at some point and we see more Hellboy in the future.
On the other hand, I feel like if there is any comic book property that I trust to end when it feels the time is right, it's absolutely Hellboy
>>82361004
He said he's still going to be directing the BPRD books and everything but he's going take a year off at least and work on painting
Huge time skip here
>>82360770
The long and short of it is "i quit for now" he's claimed before he's nearly about 2/3 done with the hellboy universes story i believe, and wrapping up in hell felt like a good break point for him. he's going to focus on his painting specifically, i think he just wants to art without being confined to the same thing he has been for so long.
iirc his "other" titles are going to be continuing, just not written by him, so past stuff can still happen, lobster, frankenberry, shit like that is still going on, but the current timeline is no longer progressing forward
they have his permission and shit though, they theoretically are still going to be canon, just like alot of mignolaverse stuff not written by him
Some bits like this will be repeated later but that's thousands of pages from now.
>>82361108
Isn't BPRD transitioning into a new cycle? I haven't read anything past Plague of Frogs so I don't know what's going on except for Black Flame fucking shit up apparently.
>>82361108
>>82360840
I can totally understand just being burnt out on Hellboy since it's basically the only thing he's done for so fucking long.
Just from my previous knowledge and quickly googling, I'm still optimistic he comes back to Hellboy and writing BPRD after taking a break from it for a while. I mean, despite how overwhelming it sounds to continue connecting all the dots to the big picture with how huge his Hellboy universe has grown into, the whole thing is still his baby.
I mean, how could he not want to be at the helm for the natural ending of all those stories?
>>82361243
20 some years and the whole thing reads like a novel in chronological order.
Of course this would happen after I spent a month catching up.
>>82361285
Could you guys image if fucking Batman and Spider-Man were like that?
I mean one book, (mostly) one writer, no resets just a coherent story from start to finish over years and years of being published
>>82361294
It's a lot of fun reading it this way though and you'll see some stuff you missed I bet.Like the reacuring statues or Varvara showing up in a painting 5 years before her first appearance
>>82361219
it also recently hit a good stopping point, but it is the only thing im not sure about. basically, "hellboy" is done for now, but everything mignolaverse that isn't him, isn't done.
i dont really know if bprd is going to continue (i read the interview a while ago) but iirc its last issue was pretty shit hits the fan-y and could stop there as well.
tl:dr, the past is confinuing, the present? maybe but not with hellboy himself (or mignola)
>>82361243
he mentioned he isn't fully quitting, he just wants a break. and like the titles not written by him, he still would have creative input, be able to say what does or doesn't be massive plot points, stuff like that he already did. just no writing or art.
he just wants to retire for a year or two is pretty much what he said
this is the interview where he said all this shit i think. that or in one of the other parts, they should be linked in it though
http://www.multiversitycomics.com/interviews/mike-mignola-reviews-2015-3/
I don't get how Hellboy can end when it never really started. Abe Sapien has more plot going on than Hellboy.
>>82361438
Well that's just not true.
>>82361438
I kinda wonder if hell on earth will have an actual ending or just "and then they fought the giant monsters" with nothing decided.
>>82359523
Based on the current library editions, how many more would be released until they catch up?
>>82361384
Okay cool, so it really is just a break for a while. Thank god.
I've already gotten used to a once a decade, sporadic type of release schedule thanks to Venture Bros.
So long as I know there'll be more eventually, I'm happy to wait for Mignola to come back fresh and ready to tell more stories somewhere down the road.
>>82361335
Batman could work due to his litany of proteges.
>Bruce recruits Dick, Jason, and then Tim after Jason dies.
>Bruce eventually dies and Dick replaces him, Dick gets informed that Bruce had a son with Talia, Dick raises Damian and trains him to become Robin.
>Eventually Dick retires and Damian takes over, recruiting a new Robin.
No idea how to make Spiderman work past his natural age.
>>82361478
I don't get where part 3 can go when the world is already largely destroyed and the Ogdru Jahad escaping. It can't really get worse at that point unless reality starts unraveling.
>>82361499
Aren't they already caught up with Hellboy? I mean, aside from Hellboy in Hell all of the Hellboy trades from the main book are already in Library editions
>>82361507
Yeah, I could see Batman and those legacy heroes in DC working like Hellboy's publishing history. I don't think stuff like Spider-Man or Superman would ever work in the same form Hellboy has been published though.
I wonder if they're going to do library editions of B.P.R.D. of if the omnibuses count as the library editions.
So I really want to get the whole story of Hellboy, I've only read the occasional comic but I have a decent idea of the lore. Is there some reading order image somewhere? Or do I just start with Hellboy issue 1?
>>82361668
Just follow this storytime
>>82361639
I'm willing to bet that only the main title gets a LE and omnis are for everything else. I still haven't picked up the 1946-7-8 omni
Those Hell on Earth ones should be coming soon, I can't wait
>>82360371
>Black Heccata
Oh shit, is the Black Goddess Hecate?
>>82361694
That might be a little weird since we won't even see hellboy in any real capacity for another thousand pages
>>82361545
A few unafflicted humans in a bunker watching the hordes approach outside? Crew of an escape ship trying to get to the moon?
>>82361776
Hey it's that guy who will be a giant bother to Liz a bunch of trades later.
>>82361822
And Sir Edward Grey and The Lobster
>>82361919
Panya went through some annoying shit.
>>82361954
"_____ went through some annoying shit" could a good motto of the Mignolaverse
>>82361668
your best bet is to pick a title and stick with it. theres like 4 "big titles" in the universe, and starting with say JUST hellboy would be your best bet
il see if i can find the current hellboy chronological order picture and link to it so as to not fuck up the storytime, but dont hold your breath, my images all fucked outta order and i might not be able to find it
if you google like literally "hellboy reading order" or something, even the old pictures should be correct with where to start
>>82362213
Is that the same sword from before/later?
>>82362307
Yes it is.
>>82362198
>>82361668
didnt find the up to date picture, but like i said, it should be googleable. this is still good
http://www.multiversitycomics.com/annotations/mignolaversity-reading-order-2015/
its out of date i believe, but you're fuckin set for like 300 dollars worth of comic or a few months of reading. i think 4chan composed a more up to date one (also including noncanon stories) but you wont need that for a long while
bprd, and abe are more in order, and chronological, so those should just be release order. i think bprd itself has a picture like this as well thuogh
>>82362384
From that list go here to finish everything off.

>>82361170
>Ashes. Dust. Who cares?
I like how Azazel had a somewhat dry sense of humor, like Hellboy.
Last story of this thread, I'll do one more thread today
>>82360509
>far left middle panel
That face is perfect.
>storytiming the entirety of the mignolaverse
>twice
The absolute madman.
>>82363595
I just love /co/ that much.
>>82361481
>surprisingly good russian.
That feels weird in a comic.
New thread
>>82363997
>>82363945
Man these guys piss me off.
Thanks for the storytime though.
Love the Mignolaverse. Everything feels so...real and well researched.
>>82359899
>all the Ogdru abominations modern day man runs into
>not eldritch abominations
>just real assholes talking smack in a language we can't understand
>>82361884
What the fuck man
>>82359923
>>82359941
>>82359969
Those are from what book? I don't remember seeing those.

Witchfinder: In the Service of Angeles
>>82368984
>>82369036
Thanks!
>>82362131
>the fucking sword is there
Jesus, this is beautiful.
Bump, but also:
I haven't read anything outside of the main Hellboy trades.
For those of you who have read both all of these trades/issues in release order and also in OP's based as almighty fuck chronological order, which would you recommend of the two?
>>82372539
Considering I haven't read any of BPRD or anything outside of Hellboy Vol 1-12 trades, I mean.
>>82372539
well release order really
i mean, howards has like 5 issues here in the thread, and we have no clue who the fuck he really is yet chronologically, and wont be introduced to him for another three threads at least
that being said, alot of other issues like witchfinder and stuff are going to be posted self contained in their entirety, so they dont "lose" any quality
but honestly its either "find all the issues and buy/download them to read correctly" or "read the massive amount of quality chronological being posted"
read it in release, but if you're too lazy to do that for your first time, definitely just read here. you wont be missing much for them being "out of order" in the correct order and this way is quite interesting
>>82372621
There's also Mignolaversity's reading order which Scott Allie, the Mignolaverse's line editor help make
>>82361884
>A weapon to surpass Metal Gear
>>82359523
You are a god anon
>>82363278
dat mags
>>82363420
Is Strobl the guy in Abe Sapien?
>>82363877
Mary was too good for this world
>>82359941
This is some nice Mignola-imitation. Who's the artist here?
I can't believe how expansive Hellboy universe is, amazed no one has capitalised on it.
>>82360942
Hm, that dog is a pretty big evolutionary jump from the domesticated wolves we seen with the tribe
>>82359523
Chronological Storytime is back, boys!
Hopefully the archive won't die this time.
>>82360756
That would be a hilarious idea, honestly.
And yes, I agree with anon, it is a bit silly. But this is the same franchises that uses monkeys constantly as a symbol for humans. Hellboy is sometimes a bit silly with the icons it uses. Probably because Mignola knows that folklore sometimes appears silly too.
