Rehab Xavier and Beast (felt more like a way for Singer to go "NO, I MUST BE THE ONE TO PUT XAVIER ON A CHAIR REEEE")?
Quicksilver has an awesome scene, but that's about it, he was forced out of the movie because of how OP he was. Wolverine? I can't hate Jackman, but there was nothing new to the table

Most X-Men characters do seem like they have a limited shelf life as villains, as they're often just fundamentally very hurt people lashing out cruelly against a perceived threat. They either have to die or get some development that inevitably leads to character growth that inevitably leads to them being not as villainous, otherwise they become like current comicbook Mystique - a character with a continuity and personality so convoluted and contradictory, you can barely care about her.

Xavier should be important in the origin of the X-Men, after that the focus should be on his grown-up students.
The problem is, they fucked up, all of the First Class students died except McCoy, and they introduced no new ones in DoFP, so now they still have to have him as the mentor of the new students.
Hopefully by the next movie the focus will be on Scott, Jean, Kurt, Ororo and co.
