>He became a real person. I don’t know if person is the right word. I think the Joker lives in between reality and another plane. Kind of a shaman in a way. It’s a very intoxicating role to take on. You have permission to break rules and to challenge yourself and anyone around you in a really unique way.

>I first started at the beginning, educating myself, researching, reading as much as I could, going back to the source material. And then at a certain point, I knew I had to stop doing that. Because the Joker has been redefined, reinvented many times before. I think the fun thing about it is when people have done it in the past, there is some spirit of the Joker essence that they keep, but they either build upon something or tear something down and start again at the beginning. For me, I knew once I had gone through the process of educating myself, I had to throw everything away and start from the beginning and really build this from the ground up. It was a transformative process. There was a physical transformation. There was a physical conditioning.

>There are a lot of things. It’s probably better to not get into it but to the Joker, violence is a symphony. This is someone who gets an extreme reward from the act of violence and manipulation. Those are the songs he sings and he is very in tune with what makes people tick. I did meet with people that were experts, doctors, psychiatrists that dealt with psychopaths and people who had committed horrendous crimes, and then I spent some time with those people themselves, people who have been institutionalized for great periods of time. I guess when you take on a role, any role, you become part detective, part writer, and for me that’s my favorite time of the entire process, the discovering, the uncovering, and the building of a character. Yeah, it’s really fun.

Based fucking Leto

>How involved were you in creating the Joker’s look?

>David had some very specific ideas. As far as the look of the Joker, it was a collaborative process. There were things I brought to the table and things David brought to the table and it was a mashup of both of our sick and twisted minds. There were specific things that he liked and wanted and I was there to help bring them to life in the best way I could.

>What specific things did you bring to it?

>I think the most important thing I brought was probably not to do with the outside but with the internal. But you know David was specific with tattoos. They were his idea but there was a lot to play with. Who knows what will end up in the final film?

Tattoos will be gone by the end of the movie, just as some anons suspected.

I actually agree with what Leto is saying here. The Joker as a character is someone who is chaotic by his very nature. Regardless of how much we say. Not 'Muh Joker', the simple fact is that there is no consistent Joker, or at least on the level of personality.

I mean, as a character we all know what his motivation is. To spread chaos and destruction. Nothing more. Nothing less. He doesn't have a master plan, a grand scheme that he is working to or anything of the sort.

When you think about it, that becomes scary of itself. Think about how many professions that the Joker has mastered and remember how much time it takes him to learn those skills.

Now in the hands of a normal person, we would use that ability to becomes successful beyond their wildest dreams. Yet Joker does not use the gifts for anything like that. He just uses them to cause pain and misery.

That's what makes him such a good character when put in the right hands. He is intelligent but crazy. And those two things, never make a good combination for either the person, or those around him.

I honestly can't wait to see what Leto does with this part. At the very least, I think he might steal the show.

Yeah, because driving around in an ostentatious vehicle with Batman hot on his heels isn't something Joker would do.
He would also never torture/manipulate someone for his own gain.
Or spend 5 hours arranging knives in a clock-like formation for the sole purpose of lying in the middle of it.
Nor would he get touchy-feely with people to make them uncomfortable.

I'm probably looking into this waay too far, but I'm guessing the meaning behind these tattoos is that he's the Joker.

This has now gone beyond telling people about a character's personality rather than showing them. For a brief period I was quite hopeful about Jared Leto but now I'm going full circle and starting to really hate the idea again.

Unless he turns out to be a former Robin himself, or just generally a new 'Joker' in which case the tattoos would make a lot more sense

I hope he gets proven wrong and gets slapped with some kind of workplace harassment charges or something. Then we'll see how much his "permission to break rules" is worth after you sent people used condoms and anal beads.
>>
I haven't been following the behind-the-scenes stuff for this movie, so I thought that it was an exaggeration, but:

>"The Oscar-winning star, who plays The Joker in the upcoming comic book adaptation, told E! News he sent Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje used condoms and anal beads as a means to further identify with his character. [...] 'The Joker is somebody who doesn’t really respect things like personal space or boundaries.'"

>"Jared went full Joker. The rule, generally, is never go full Joker."

>"He had a henchman who would come into the rehearsal room, and the henchman came in with a dead pig and plopped it on the table, and then he walked out."

What...?
>>
>>81873812
Nope!
>>
>>81868151
it'd be a nice change. Batman would just kinda show up as joker enacts his plan to fill city hall with silly string and paint clown make up on all the statues out front.
He doesnt even fight hes just like 'come on now joker, you know thats not allowed'
'Youll never stop my uproarious usurpation of city hall! HAHAHAHA'
Batman would just kinda shake his head and guide him out to the police by one arm as he laughs.

Just a completely silly ineffectual doddering joker batman has to occasionally escort back to the loony bin.
>>
