It wasn't anything special but it didn't deserve to flop half as hard as it did.
>>81817927
How long until a page from... 'you know what' gets posted?
>>81817970
I have literally never seen a thread about Treasure Planet from the last year that HASN'T had that sceencap
It was okay.
Better than half the movies that get touted as masterpieces despite just being okay, but not great.
>>81818069
For better or worse, it's forever entered our lexicon. That poor magnificent bastard has been immortalized.
>>81817864
I don't know about no Disney renaissance, but I liked Atlantis better. But Treasure Planet was pretty awesome too.
>>81818302
What was about Atlantis and Treasure Planet that made them preddy gud movies, yet so unliked by mainstream audiences? Personally, I really enjoyed them, but I don't know a lot of people in rl who do.
>>81817864
Can I confess a dirty secret? I havenever seenit.
But I did like Atlantis.
>>81818302
Really? I mean the visuals were great, but I think the story and characters in Atlantis generally kind of sucked.
Why did they try to escape the planet normally instead of using the portal right away?
>>81818419
I liked the Disney take on the legends and lost technology of Atlantis... It wasn't perfect, but for a kid's movie, it had a surprising amount of maturity potential
>>81818479
Habit?
Someone did then he taped stuff on his arm to be like John Silver.
>>81818390
>no princess
>no musicalI have a huge soft spot for both movies but both feel rushed and not as good as they could have been fampai
The early 2000s also seemed like a death zone for anything out of the ordinary.
>>81817864
It's a flat boring movie in which nothing of great interest happens
>>81818539
>who are Captain Amelia and Kida
>>81818595
Shit I forgot.
Captain Amelia isgreat for shipping with Jane for some reasonbut she's no princess.
>>81817970
Witch one? The guy with the silverware hand or the lady who fell in love with one of the characters?
Is someone going to post IT? Let's get it over with
>>81818625That video was one of the most surreal things I've seen simply because so much effort was put into it
>>81818857
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahVKiBDMBHw
Her entire channel is a fucking treasure.
What screen cap are you all talking about?
>>81817864
Last I checked, either Tarzan or Fantasia 2000 is generally considered to be the last film in the "Disney Renaissance" period. Treasure Planet was after both.
I have heard that Treasure Planet is criminally underrated, though.
>>81817864
Just watched this two nights ago for the first time. It's a lot better than I expected, and I already knew of its high praise.
>>81820160
>I have heard that Treasure Planet is criminally underrated, though.
It is
The villain is pretty GOAT in terms of his role in the story.
But that fucking robot is the absolute worst and drags down the movie
Is the "Disney Renaissance" the period in which Disney did a lot of mixing of animation and CGI?
>>81820302
>>81818479
The captain and doctor didn't know that the portal led anywhere but the core.
>>81820202
I don't get it. Why do people hate BEN but view characters like Olaf as "beloved icons"?
2002 is not the Disney Renaissance by any means
>>81820648
Olaf actually wasn't annoying at all despite how the marketing for him would have you believe. BEN comes in way too late in the story and is completely a contrast to the rest of the movie.
>SHE WILL NEVER BE REAL
>>81820648
why can't we dislike both?
But honestly, just watch their scenes side by side
BEN is way more annoying and unfunny
>>81818269
>>81818784
I hesitate to say, but I have no idea what you guys are talking about. Care to enlighten me?
>>81820056
>>81820988
THE WHOLE THING WAS FAKE YOU RETARDS
I really enjoyed the atmosphere of the movie.
A lot of the scenery pieces and backgrounds
are really good looking.
>Le Hidden Gem Syndrome: When an overall well made but obviously flawed film is a critical and/or financial failure causing its devout fanbase to defensively inflate it's quality
>>81823080
Treasure Planet was fake?
And here I thought it was based on a true story!
>>81823057
holy shit man
>>81824283
I'd take it over almost any recent Disney film any day.
>>81823057
The shoes always get me.
>>81823057
Oh yeah, forgot about this. I thought "IT" was referring tothat girl who was super obsessed with him and drew a sex comic where the sex positions were awkward because he's obese
>>81817864
>There are people on /co/ RIGHT NOW
>>81817864
It's been over a decade since I've seen this. Is that what>>81817927 is feelsing?
ZOOTOPIA!!!!!!!!
>>81826081
I thought they were talking about the Jane/Amelia crackship; wondered if there was some sort of comic I didn't know about.
>>81820648
BEN is a lot louder than Olaf and much jumpier and clingier. Olaf is more of a child while BEN has completely lost his mind, both before and after he gets his mind back. He's a lot more in your face and his jokes and statements wander away from the seriousness of the action whereas Olaf's jokes and comments can slip in just fine.
>>81818903
>check Youtube page
>has an Ariel/Tzekel-Kan video
Dear God you weren't kidding.
Literally saw this movie yesterday for the first time. I really like it, what a shame that I waited so long and that I didn't see it as a kid.
But one thing really triggered me: A sun doesn't erupt into a supernova and then turns into a black hole in just a few minutes. And you most definitely won't get out of a black hole once you are beyond the event horizon.
I know it's a kids film and also based on a book, but that was just too ridiculous.
Treasure Planet, isn't that the comic where the genie fights captain hook off screen?
>>81817864
>tfw Silver was my favorite character
He reminds me of myself, maybe that's why.
>>81817864
>Disney Renaissance
stop this meme
>>81829820
it's supposed to be analogous to a whirlpool, as the ether is analogous to an ocean despite being "sorta"-space. I get your meaning, but I can't pretend that watching the ship rocket away from the black hole wasn't cool as tits to see as a kid.
>>81823080

Haha! Whatever you say pham
>>81818903
>it's the virus from Osmosis Jones

Cons
>Human character designs were weird, with really fucking small chins
>Background CGI did not age well
>Story's kinda weak
>BEN, fucking BEN
Pros
>Silver's design
>Silver's arm CGI
>Amelia's design
>Sailpunk aesthetic
>Dem space scenes, unf
>Climax with the collapsing planet
>Doppler was a comic relief character done well, unlike BEN. God I hate BEN
It's not the strongest movie ever but it's heavily underrated. It and Atlantis both have an adventure feeling that I really wish Disney had done more with.
>>81832364
>Doppler was a comic relief character done well
so was morph
>>81817864

>>81817864
I really like Treasure Planet, and I think it and Atlantis: The Lost Empire (which I actually like more than Treasure Planet) are seriously underrated.
>>81834065
John Silver was the best thing about TP.
I didn't care too much about A:tLE. It wasn't terrible, but wasn't anything astounding either.
In my opinion...
Furry bait...

>>81823057
At least he became autistic about something that will be possible in his lifetime
>>81818903
There are a lot of these. Some of them show clips of separate movies of kids then adults and it's like the pair grew up together. It's fucking retarded but impressive.

At least they were smart and used painted textures.
>>81817864
It's clearly one of my favorites but that probably has more to do with going away from both princesses and musicals.
I'm not sure it's really better, just a better fit for me. It's competently made for sure.
>>81818539
>rushed
They had 2 years to re-work Titan A.E. into a Disney movie.
>>81817864
I've watched it several times.
"Meh" comes to mind.
>>81823057
I could have totally done something like that. As a kid. For a week max.
>>81829820
You realize they were in space on renaissance era boats, right?
No space suit, nothing, they just breathed space air. It's pirates in space, not even soft scifi.
On that note I think the part where Dogbert or whatever his name was gets a space suit is a joke about them thinking to give the characters space suit at the concept phase and thinking it looked like shit.
