I'd say not really, since she has a life outside of Marco and the show isn't really about him "coming out of his shell" or whatever. She's also depicted as almost too weird most of the time to seem like any sort of ideal. Marco has his own interests outside of Star too, for that matter.

All the shipping faggotry around this show aside, the two are depicting as having a really genuine friendship, without it seeming romantic or like one is taking advantage.

Obviously there are shades of it, but I'd say overall she averts the trope. Marco is certainly brought more out of his Safe Kid she'll because of Star, but he's far from brooding or emotionless, and his interest in more dangerous hobbies like karate were present before Star. Yes, Star is wacky and bubbly, but she's in no way obsessed with Marco and isn't actively trying to teach him anything, she has her own goals/interests, and the majority of episodes are from her perspective.

Quite the opposite.

She's only on Earth because her parents got sick of her setting fire on everything. She's largely disliked in the kingdom itself; the Royal Guard and her folks are the only ones that like having her around. Screws up often, has her worldview and desires questioned more than once. And no one, not even those fond of her, think very highly of her intelligence and decision-making skills.

If anything, Marco's her MPDG as he's an enabler who just so happens to have the patience and understanding to improve her in a non-invasive way. If she had hooked up with anyone else they would have either been a toady that follows her without question or a bully that would try to exploit her.
