It's not like Vader is her story. She's her own character. It was her *past* with Anakin that made a confrontation with Vader inevitable. Now that she's tried and failed to redeem him she's actually free from the need for them to meet up again.

When we last saw her she was heading somewhere, suggesting she has a purpose. She feels horrible that she left Anakin, she won't abandon the Rebellion and compound that.

I assume you're just talking about husbando stuff, but we really didn't need more stories of a younger Luke. His character arc was over. It why we really didn't need any sequel to Jedi to begin with, but at least with an older Luke we can explore how he's adapted to his lofty role in Jedi history and his responsibilities as a seasoned mentor.

I really hope he isn't just Obi-Wan or Yoda 2.0 VIII.

It's not even a screw up. You can actually see that just like the rest of the Death Star it's just the framework. It's a metallic lattice, a skeleton, not even fully fleshed out. Why the heck would a fully completed emitter dish already be in place when nothing else on the surface, or the interior for that matter, is done?

For some reason people see a round shape and shout, "OO OO OO! LOOKIT!" but never bothered to actually look closer at what they'd seen. No clue why they thought this was like the Death Star II and despite being half done it must be fully armed and operational. Weapons done, just need to attach the frame and apply the coat of standard Imperial grey paint. Yeah, right.

That's a lack of creativity, though. Ventress was a Sith Assassin, a mini-boss to harass the Jedi so they didn't always have to face Dooku or Grievous and humiliate them by always getting away. Grievous suffered enough from that as it was.

Change her dynamic, take her out of her initial role, and what does she become? Something else. Ultimately dead, but everyone dies even in fiction. Except for Boba Fett, he'll outlive them all as he digests for the next thousand years, and only when he's older than Yoda will he finally pass.

These characters can be whoever they want them to be. You might not see any use, maybe they can. Maybe they can even make it compelling. But if you think Ahsoka was always limited by being necessarily attached to Anakin it's a shame we never saw her further adventures on her own in TCWs unproduced materials. After all, her point to being Anakin's Padawan was him learning to let her go, which we knew he'd have to eventually. So many people thought she died because she wasn't in Episode III. She didn't.

BB-8 must have the most unpractical design of all droids.
I mean, he can't possibly traverse everywhere.
And if he wants to use one of those arms that unlock doors he will have to roll around a bunch to position himself. Sometimes the arm might be under him, or behind him.
He's such a stupid design.

We still have people going "THERE'S GONNA BE BOTHANS IN THIS ONE RIGHT? HEY SAID MANY BOTHANS DIED I WANNA SEE THAT" despite like two years of reminding people that's the second Death Star. They're going for a gritty spy/espionage type of film. They're might be some lighthearted moments and a ray of hope at the end, but it's not going to be a happy go lucky film. Let's just say, don't get attached to your favorite character, they might not live.

Except Lucas had literally nothing to do with the idea of Plagueis having a staff, so your aphorism is wrong. Lucas did have everything to do with R2D2 belonging to Padme Amidala, the mother of Luke and Leia, and everything to do with C3P0 being built by Anakin, Luke and Leia's father, and how Vader was Anakin, and how Obi-Wan just happened to be on the same planet the stolen Death Star plans wound up landing on, etc etc ad nausem. That kind of asspull convenient connectivity sticks to epics like toilet paper on a trucker's boot.

He also had nothing to do with the idea of Kylo building BB-8. Both theories rely entirely on the POTTERY meme.

Either way you're blaming him for something he had nothing to do with and getting legit upset about it, as if a fan theory were a real thing. Kylo building BB-8 isn't even a wide enough theory to justify being annoyed with.

I say it doesn't feel like Star Wars because it doesnt have Lucas's signature visuals. It looks like a modern film with a Star Wars theme like TFA.

Not saying it's going to be bad or not good, it's just very clear Lucas is gone from the series.
>>
>>81595405
>That's a lack of creativity, though.
No it isn't. It's being aware of when to call it quits and resolve a story with thematic strength and emotional resonance intact and at their most potent. Some cool shit could be done with her, maybe, sure. But is it warranted? Is there something else about her that we really need to see? Probably not. Ahsoka doesn't need to be another Darth Maul or Boba Fett.

I could be wrong, maybe she'll be back in an interesting way. I really doubt it, though.
>>
>>81595020
Still feels weird. We saw the GI go into a ball of fire, and the Fifth Brother get disemboweled. It feels weird to have him do this offscreen sort of deal when the series hasn't shied from killing its antags onscreen in grody ways.

>>
>>81595339
Thinking about it, I don't think the Geonosians ever actually expected this thing to destroy planets. Take out some ships with a big gun? Sure. Maybe wipe out cities. Heavily armored, mobile, huge fighter carrying capacity. A base you can move anywhere in the galaxy and lay siege to any world or even entire star systems.

But destroying planets? I doubt it, unless they somehow knew the magic of kyber crystals. I think the Emperor is the one who decided to add that little ingredient to amplify the power of the weapon.

To me there is a difference in creating something to wage conventional warfare and an outright doomsday weapon. But it probably doesn't matter. Show the CIS dbags a weapon that can destroy entire planets and they'd probably clap and cheer. Would Nute Gunray be appalled? Or Wat Tambor? Maybe just in the idea of destroying worlds instead of conquering them and reaping all the riches, the actual spoils of war.

Already mentioned. Without the kyber it could explode ships, probably decimate cities. That's still impressive. Remember the Malevolence with it's massive ion canon? They are familiar with super weapons.

Why? A giant armored battle station with thousand so surface guns, shields enough to repel enemy fleets, able to carry massive compliments of ships, troops/droids, and all the goodies you need, and also had a big gun.

To them it could basically have been a mobile oppression palace. You can't lay siege against it, you blockade against it. But then star fighters and that one tiny flaw in the plans would no doubt still happen.

At that point, it's only a few steps away from being a planet killer as it is, so I don't see the point in hiding the weapon's true intention from them.

Plus if they're the ones building it and they have the actual plans I don't know how you could hide its purpose from them. The Geonosians knowing the purpose of the Death Star would also justifying silencing them permanently.

Let me ask you this, though: would it make a big difference to the Geonosians if this giant weapon they're building is a planet killer or not?

The Republic kicked the shit out of Geonosis a second time for daring to create some ray shielded super tanks. The arc ends with Poggle captured and a queen killed. It doesn't take building a Death Star to get the shit kicked out of them.

That said, recall that Grievous was sent to retrieve a kyber. Was it for the Death Star? Ultimately, yes, but I suppose people can still argue whether the CIS was in the dark as to why they needed the crystal and it was juts something Sidious and/or Dooku ordered Grievous to secure.

He demands more control than anyone would ever be willing to give him. He sells Star Wars to Disney, hands them his treatments for Ep. VII-IX, authorizes three people at Disney to actually look at them then complains when the movie doesn't turn out the way he wants it.

He sunk the Darth Maul game and 1313 on a whim, then hands his whole company over to Disney finally puts Lucasarts out of its misery, then sells the video game rights to EA.

There is a rather huge difference between subjugating a planet with a giant battle station and just destroying that planet.

The CIS knowing at all, at the start of the war, about a weapon of that magnitude is a huge issue. Sidious was all about compartmentalization of information. It would be fully in character to trick the Geonosians into creating the very thing he later plans on turning into yet another Sith super weapon without them knowing they're actually creating a planet destroying gun.

The Empire was fucking huge and standards were all over the place. If you're going to write a story then you have to stick with it, giving up and then adding poorly written smut isn't a good way to write anything. You have to stick with your idea and make it cohesive and flowing.

> I've been trying to write 2000-3000 words a day about anything
Are you good at writing 2000-3000 words a day or do you feel like you're getting too overloaded with the word count? That's no small number, but the writing here is suffering poorly because of it. I don't know who Renno is or his Apprentice, I don't know their personalities.

It's really sad. Back in the day Lucas was just trying to make a movie in accordance with his vision. But things kept getting in his way - producers telling him what to do, actors adding their own bits and pieces, limitations of special effects at the time. He probably felt that when the movie was done it was no longer his movie. In the end studio had the final say, telling him what he can and can't do, and he couldn't resist.

So with the prequels he was the one holding all the leashes, so no one else could. He thought he was bringing peace, freedom and stability to his filmmaking. But what he didn't see was that now he was merely telling others what they can and can't do. He was shoving shit on screen, blinded by his freedom, without thought, and no one could resist him. He would choke EU on a whim by canceling products and contradicting established lore just to prove his power.

No one was safe from his vision.

Luke may have been Lucas' self-insert, but Anakin was his true alter-ego, even if he never realized it himself.

This is the ultimate pottery of Star Wars.

Come on, are you really arguing that the stormtroopers in ROTJ were competent? The stormies in ANH didn't kill Han because they were ordered to let the heroes escape. And yes, Star Wars is usually goofy, but there is a difference between making the villains cannon fodder and making them complete retards like in ROTJ.
I mean how were the rebels able to suprise that trooper at all? Why did the three other guards all leave their post to follow the ewok? It's because "the emperors best troops" were actually the worst in the entire saga.
>>

Not necessary. Having him as a twat right off the bat would've propelled the story a bit more. It's either that or invent an actual story/personality for Maul or a new villain altogether, but I don't see why that's preferable to simply expanding on Dooku to make him actually interesting.

>the experience stopped being fun a long time ago.

The best thing to do is to take a breather and ask yourself why writing was fun for you in the first place. I've been there with the writers block or having been too busy with writing due to erratic schedules, but you must always have the reason as to why you're writing in the forefront of your mind at all times. You can love writing for friends or you can just love making the places in your mind a tangible thing.

The story you wrote started out great, it was descriptive and the world sounded like it was an interesting place. The best thing to do is pace yourself and not try and force 2000+ words out of yourself when you can only make 200 or 500 words happen.
>>
>>81598747

No way this is real. Never heard anyone outside these boards say "OT purists".
>>
>>81598298

Star Wars already exists as a complete set. The OT is forever.

Lucas liked the idea of imagining Star Wars as a documentary of a lost time, Rogue One captures some of that verisimilitude being more at the ground level.
>>
>>81598762

I mean, the fact of the matter is that the "official" status of a Star Wars work has no actual bearing on its quality. Lots of the old EU is good, the only problem with it not being canon is that those stories will not be revisited again and can be blatantly overwritten by worse content. The flipside of that is that the good elements are available for reintegration while the bad ones no longer sully the universe. The works aren't affected by the quality of the setting; the opposite is true, which is why EU is bad but EU works can be fantastic, whereas nuCanon is a more consistent and less stupid setting, albeit less varied.

You're right, nuCanon is still very bland, but they've got quite a bit of material going after only a couple of years. It's a decent start.
>>
>>81598683
Why would he need to be a good guy? Just put him in Maul's place as the immediate threat (with other significant alterations to the story). His interactions with Qui-Gon could provide the same insight as an actual downfall subplot in a lot less time. Either way he should've been in TPM, though.

How was the First Order competent? They were just the same as the Empires forces. Sure, they massacred a village of unarmed civilians, but failed in everything else that was their mission objective. I'm sure you will find a friend who likes Star Wars, anon. I got my friend into Star Wars recently in the run up to TFA and I managed to get him through TPM, AotC, TCW, RotS, ANH, ESB, RotJ and then we went to the cinema to see TFA. He enjoys the franchise though he didn't like a New Hope and The Force Awakens is his favourite film, however he likes TCW better then the films and we are currently going through Rebels which he is enjoy as well. I doubt I'd be able to get him into the comics and other stuff though

It's exactly like that. If it's popular, then they have been "fans" of it for years, and buy all the cool merch that's in a store so they can proudly say what fans they are. But ultimately, all the stuff they bought ends up in a storage bin or given to me to make room for the next fad they pick up.

>Mfw they call themselves the biggest fans to me.

They were doing the whole LUCAS RUINED STAR WARS/JJ IS DA BEST shtick for months, without even watching any of the movies at all. They never watched the OT or PT before they seen TFA. And afterwards I tried getting them to at least watch ANH but nothing.

>>
>>81600097
Huh, that got me remembering.

The first lego lightsaber I had was from a small RotJ set of an archway, Luke. and an Imperial officer. Point being it was a green saber.

The first video game with a changeable saber colour for me was KotOR, and I got the Jedi Class by way of test. It was counsular. Came with a green blade.

Except they know nothing about Sith ideologies, traditions, teachings, skills, ect. You have to be taught how to be a Sith. Kylo and Snoke were not. They're just users of the dark side. All Sith are dark side users. Not all dark side users are Sith.

But none of that is all that relevant to what goes on in TFA. And what it meant to be a Sith (aside from typical Dark Side stuff) wasn't really touched on in the previous movies either. In terms of narrative function Snoke is Emperor 2.0. It's the same shit, slightly different toilet. To the story and audience the differences are imperceptible and irrelevant (so far).

Enough that Pablo himself stated that dark side user =/= automatically Sith. It's something you have to specifically be taught and trained to be.

Kylo and Snoke are not Sith Lords. Snoke is someone who's implied to be able to use the dark side, and Kylo is a former padawan playing at being a Sith.

I can see that. They don't have the same powers, but they're following the same basic philosophies that fucked up the galaxy and the balance. A resurgent Empire, all the Jedi dead, the galaxy just to themselves and the Dark Side.

Of course some of that depends on Snoke's goals. Oddly he seems more devoted to the death of the Jedi and hunting down Luke Skywalker. Even destroying the Republic Senate and Fleet was to damage the Resistance because of worries they were too close to finding Skywalker.

Makes me wonder if maybe his use of the First Order is just as a means to an end. Maybe he's not quite what we think he is? Might make for an interesting twist, but it would depend on exactly what his plans are for the Force.

Hm. I bet the bitching about this would be tremendous if it happens, but it has a kind of point. Most of Sabine's focus is when she's either on a mission where it's just Chopper and her against Ketsu, or she pairs up with Kanan to punk Mandalorians. She's not exactly the equal focus of the show Filoni hinted at for this season.

WHEN ARE THE COMICS GOING TO START GETTING GOOD?

Don't get me wrong, I'm really enjoying the current ongoings we have now, and most of the mini-series are really good.

Its just really hard to not compare it to Dark Horse where we had some really cool universe-bending stuff on par with the movies at times.

Where is the Old Republic comics? Where are the comics that take place thousands of years after TFA? I know its kinda hard to do future stuff, now that we have movies coming out in chronological order, but I really want to see stuff like Reys great grandson. Same goes for books. When are we getting the new-canon equivalent of Heir to the Empire

I deliberately never got into the old canon because once I heard it was being retconned, I figured we would get those kinds of stories in due-time. I keep getting more and more worried that we are never going to see them because they want to play it safe and save all the super important stories for the movies

The Jedi never did that, and when they needed info from Cad Bane they employed repeated mind tricks, something considered dangerous. Darth Vader never had that against Leia...though maybe he did try? In the Visual Dictionary Luke thinks that the Force presents itself in Leia via her willpower and spirit, which give her exceptional resistance.

The notion is if that's true Snoke would very likely be much stronger in the technique, to the extent where he could have basically Force dominated the leader's of the First Order into obeying him, and so fully they think it was their idea.

The idea is muddled by Vader mentioning a "mind probe" which apparently isn't the droid but the name of the technique, based on The Wook. People also point to Vader picking up on secrets from Luke's head during their last duel, though that is just as likely basic Force insight since Luke managed to say that Leia was his sister and presumably he didn't Mind Probe that out of Obi-Wan's ghost head.

So basically I have no clue. Even if the Mind Probe is a high order Force power that Vader had that doesn't mean Snoke couldn't. But then there's also the very reasonable proposition that the First Order are such Empire fanboys and wannabes they jumped at the first chance to make a dark warlock their boss.

>The notion is if that's true Snoke would very likely be much stronger in the technique, to the extent where he could have basically Force dominated the leader's of the First Order into obeying him

This isn't unheard of. Sidious used the force to turn a Twi'lek girl from being cautions about him to being totally enamored with him to the point that he drew his lightsaber on her and she didn't even flinch.

>But then there's also the very reasonable proposition that the First Order are such Empire fanboys and wannabes they jumped at the first chance to make a dark warlock their boss.

I'd say this is more likely though. Their wanting to emulate how the Empire use to be and relive the glory days of their fathers and older brothers just makes more sense in my eyes.
>>
>>81602716
Not the anon suggesting it, but why not? The Death Star plans had to be analyzed to be of any use. It's not like the plans had "WARNING! MAJOR FLAW THAT COULD DESTROY US IF SOMEONE SHOOTS THIS TWO METER THERMAL EXHAUST PORT" on page 1.

The only problem I see is people who say he should have just taken the plans to Yavin on his own if he was part of the operation, however maybe at some point they split up. He actually makes it back to base, the plans go to Leia who sadly gets caught as she detours to Tatooine to pick up Obi-Wan's wrinkled butt.

>WHEN ARE THE COMICS GOING TO START GETTING GOOD?
They are good though. Kanan was great. Obi-Wan & Anakin is great. Poe is good so far. Shattered Empire was good. Lando was great. Like you said they're all enjoyable so far, and all of the minis(except for Chewie and Leia) are consistently awesome.

>to Dark Horse where we had some really cool universe-bending stuff
You're not gonna get that kind of stuff yet. Hell, Legends didn't get that kind of stuff for decades. Wait a little longer. A year or two at the least.

>Where is the Old Republic comics?
Likely something in the works. They're still slowly working out their version of the Old Republic.

>Where are the comics that take place thousands of years after TFA? I know its kinda hard to do future stuff, now that we have movies coming out in chronological order, but I really want to see stuff like Reys great grandson.
You're not likely gonna get future stuff until at least after the sequel trilogy.

> Same goes for books. When are we getting the new-canon equivalent of Heir to the Empire
We already have stuff that's just as good, if not better than HttE. IMHO basically all of the canon books are better than HttE, minus Aftermath and the latter part of Dark Disciple. HttE isn't terrible, don't get me wrong, but it is nowhere near as good as people make it out to be. This goes for the whole Thrawn trilogy. They're okay books, but they have plenty of problems too that people gloss over.

>I figured we would get those kinds of stories in due-time.

Legends only became a thing almost 2 years ago dude. Canon didn't even start new stuff until August 2014.

> I keep getting more and more worried that we are never going to see them because they want to play it safe and save all the super important stories for the movies
Have some patience man. They've already stated they aren't doing that. Hell, the Battle of Jakku, a major battle in SW history, first appeared in a book and a game.

Seemed more like Sidious used Force Domination, a much more powerful version than the mind trick. Instead of just making the weak willed do one thing for you it turns them into your total thrall. Although seeing how the Mind Trick worked in Rebels and TFA that's pretty much the same thing, even though what Sidious used was supposed to be a deeper violation of the mind.

Kylo didn't dominate, he just rummaged around in your actual thoughts. Sheev had to ask the kid questions which she readily answered. Similar but not quite the same. For what it matters, anyway.

If Biggs was involved this extensively in finding out the death star's weakpoint, they wouldn't need to wait on the princess and R2 to get back. And we see this character clearly running around an imperial base with Jyn.

This. I hate how the visual dictionary talks about how awesome they are in comparison to the OT stormtroopers, when J.J. actually showed them exactly as they were in the original movies. No self-referential parodies like in Rebels, but neither overwanked operators like in the EU.

I hope they stay the same in Rogue One. I'd love for them to be like that in the third season of Rebels, but Filoni himself doesn't want that. Oh well.

Early Rebellion did, pre-Alliance anyway. Recall how Hera didn't even let Kanan know about who Fulcrum was or Phoenix Squad. They were heavy into compartmentalization of information so the Empire couldn't torture any valuable secrets from people.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Rebellion still maintains the idea of a "need to know basis".

Really liking that back half of the saber, but the green leather stands out pretty starkly in the middle, and doesn't really fit with the very technological look of the rest of the saber. Calling this one an OJO padawan who got in touch with his old noble family at some point during his career, who influenced him enough that he felt the need to build a more patrician looking saber.

In a deleted scene, which I think was re-introduced in the most recent digitally remastered version (Never watched it, I got a digitally enhanced version of the original theatrical release on DVD and see no reason to get any other versions of the original trilogy.) Biggs is talking with Luke on Tattooine and tells him that he's finally leaving Tattooine. He's going to jump-ship and join up with the rebels.

I was more going for "forest hippy". The sort of Jedi who would wear green robes, etc, but also it turns out he's pretty damn lazy.

Plus the only colors that I felt worked well with the design were dark colors, but they didn't match the tone I was going for with the lightsaber, and made it feel more sinister.

Okay Kylekatarnfags, i've had it with you and your obsession to include him everywhere and see references to him when there are none. Prove me that he is an interesting character by describing him without referring to the fact that he is a spy/rogue/Jedi. I don't really hate him, I just don't think he is that interesting.

To be fair, I'll try and describe my favorite character with the same limitations:
> many other characters consider him a failure

> he is also far from being a loner and is very loyal to his friends o, whom he relies a lot

And I could have made it easier and still being vague. Don't disappoint me guys.

That said, I feel like this RLM "describe them without mentioning any of their roles" test isn't actually that good at pointing out what makes characters interesting, and makes everyone sound like a bad fanfiction character instead. How they're written is what makes them good. For instance, guess who this is:

>Irresponsible, with a little bit of a reckless/rebellious streak
Surprise, it's ANH Luke. But it strips all the interesting nuance from his character.

The thing is that Kyle was a self-insert character for a video-game. Of course people are invested in him and want him to succeed and be brought into this. We played as him across a lot of games, we were there with him when he conquered his greatest obstacles, we helped him realize his full potential and push the first brick that was the domino effect that destroyed the Empire.

WE were Kyle and now we want to see that our time and effort is recognized and shared with the mainstream audience.

As a Kyle-fag, I really hope that it is Kyle, so they can give him that character development that he needs.
