Actually, one thirteenth of all Transformers are descended from Solus Prime, one of the original 13 Transformers created by Primus, and that's why there are female Cybertronians.

Even then, Spotlight: Arcee was retconned as Jhiaxus being a total fucking nutbar, and outlying Transformer colonies have plenty of women in their populations.

Well in the current comics, there are two methods. Forging and Constructing Cold.

With the first, periodically parts of Cybertron's surface receive upwellings of Sentio Metallico, a kind of programmable matter. Within these upwellings are small crystal structures filled with energy called sparks. They develop, with the sentio metallico forming around them to make a simple body, called a protoform. This makes a forged Cybertronian.

Constructed Cold Cybertronians, known as knock-offs, and any number of other insulting names, come from sparks acquired from another source. The sparks are frozen, and placed into a premade body. As the sparks thaw, the body comes to life.

As for female Cybertronians, there's only one right answer.

Well you still do get the occasional hotspot, but you're right. They were fading out during Nova Prime's period, which was likely the end of Solus' tribe.

Presumably any female cybertronians who were forged during this period, simply didn't know they were any different from male cybertronians, or would have felt different but couldn' expla- I'm not going down this road.

According to one continuity, they were imposed by a culture who enslaved the Cybertronians.

I just figure that on cybertron they were storage compartments, like pockets.

It's only when they travelled offworld that they discovered that by sticking seats in their compartments, they could disguise themselves as vehicles.

After all, Prime's cabin is filled by the matrix usually.

That's the explanation in the UK comics. Because it was established earlier by the US that there were no males or females, yet they "had" to explain Arcee.
It was a godawful explanation though. Her origin in the movie and cartoon never needed any special reason, given they'd had introduced female transformers four years earlier.
