I fail to see how that's stopped any show from being likable, before. The show doesn't rely on mean spirited jokes, it's mostly the same kind of joke repeated in a different fashion, like:

>Thats the closet!

Mostly visual puns too.

On a side note, some of the recent episodes haven't really been mean. Infact, one of the recent episodes was about teaching a robot about love, and he falls in love with a vacuum cleaner at the end as the punch line. Kind of "Saw that coming", but everyone accepted it at the end, and just rolled with it.

If they're trying to find Gumball's successor, I doubt they plan on keeping Gumball alive.

That's the main line between bad and good mean spirited things. If it's to get back at someone bad, then sure, it's probably not even called mean spirited. The one that people complain about is when a good character gets that same treatment and never gets a comeback. It's really not that hard to understand. People tend to have a different view on what's funny, and what's not. This is known as "sense of humor". While you don't like the humor, others do. This might be why they like said show. Of course, there could be other reasons, but since this thread is mostly centered around the humor, I might as well mention "sense of humor".

It's a pretty comfortable show with no real coherent plot between episodes, besides some foreshadowing of future events that doesn't really add up to much.

It's also sad that the only good show on CN atm isn't even an American-produced cartoon. Steven Universe is decent but the pacing is horrendous and it gets hamfisted at times.

It's also a complaint leveled at shows people don't like but they don't want to expend the effort to actually explain why it is bad. And if you don't like mean spirited shows don't watch them and don't complain about them on /co/ like people care about how sensitive you are. It is 100% not a complaint that you should make as to why a show is bad because it is a personal complaint having no bearing on a show's quality
