>Earth 2
>Earth 2 World's End
>Earth 2 Society
Are these all one singular line?I stopped reading around the time James Robinson stopped being the writer, so about 15 or 16 issues into the original run, and I'm looking to jump back in. Only problem is, I have no real idea on what the reading order is, or if there is a lot that is just awful. If anyone could help I'd appreciate itAnd why does it seem like they forced superman back in? I liked the idea that this was a world where the Trinity was no more
>>81376763
>and I'm looking to jump back in
don't bother, friend
After Robinson left Taylor came on and he introduced a bunch of Superman characters including a new Superman who hogged all the page space, and his run was a bunch of hypocritical mouth piece bullshit that's not worth reading
then he left and World's End started and it's literal Countdown-tier garbage that's not worth mentioning. WE was bad and Earth 2's tie ins were terrible. Skip all this shit
Then that garbage ended and Earth 2 Society started, being written by the showrunner for World's End. I only skimmed some of this because it was more of the same stupid Batman and Superman centric shit except now he was doing a terrible job "re-establishing" the Earth 2 characters on a new planet in addition to Superbatwank
He left after a few issues and now Dan Abnett is writing and it's a readable book with decent focus on the characters that were the original cast (i.e. Hawkgirl, GL, Dr. Fate, etc) but any interest or passion I had in this series is long dead
>>81376763
Don't do it OP. Save yourself the torment.
>>81376763
People often talk about things they like being ruined whenever it hits a rough patch.
But Earth 2 is literally ruined.
They world died, major characters died, all interesting world building and plot threads were torched.
It is worthless.
Read something else.
>>81377029
>>81376984
>Introduced a bunch of new supermen
>World's end(What, did Earth 2 get destroyed or some shit?)
>Batman and Superman centric shit(I will say I'm fine with an E2 Batman, so long as he's clearly a B character, like Green Arrow)
This all sounds really depressing. I really liked that early run. Though I might look into Abnett's run, though it might be really short with rebirth.
>>81377150
Man, how did they fuck up this horribly?
>>81376763
>And why does it seem like they forced superman back in? I liked the idea that this was a world where the Trinity was no moreOnly Superman around is Val Zod
>>81377193
It happened once Robinson left the book. Taylor's had its moments but had some really bad ones. Then after Taylor left the book got worse and worse. Now Abnett is trying his best to fix things but it still feels like the book either needs to go in a drastic direction or get put to sleep.
>>81377193
>>World's end(What, did Earth 2 get destroyed or some shit?)
Yes. World's End was 26 issues of every "lel edgy grimdark" comics stereotype you can imagine
There was a new Darkseid offspring named Deathspawn. DEATHSPAWN, you can't make this retarded 90s throwback up if you tried
And at the tail end of Robinson's run he had introduced Thomas Wayne as Batman with the clear intent he'd be a second tier character but they really amped his involvement up
and then killed him and replaced him with the most unlikable version of Dick Grayson you will ever meet. If you are thinking "I liked Dickbats, that can't be so bad" just stop, you're wrong, it IS that bad
>>81377193
Abnett's run is competent, but doesn't can't save it as a whole.
The good news is that Johns mentioned there's plans to bring back the JSA (presumably something closer to the post-Crisis version). That plus Earth 2: Society not getting in on the Rebirth announcements gives me hope.
>>81377301
I mean, they could do a hard reboot with Rebirth, But knowing DC, they'll just ride the course and cancel it saying "Nobody like a universe without regular superman and batman" or some shit
>>81377361
I'm interested in the idea of a JSA book. I'd hope they'd try to give the new versions a shot, but I'd be fine with it if they went back to classic JSA
>>81377193
>Though I might look into Abnett's run, though it might be really short with rebirth.
They aren't actually ending Earth 2 Society with Rebirth for whatever reason, he might still be on it.
>>81377436
Oh I was super on board with what Robinson was doing.
But at this point I think it'd be better to just bury it.
>>81377193
>Man, how did they fuck up this horribly?
Robinson left and no one else gave enough of a damn to preserve what he had built and continue it in the same faithful direction.
>>81377361
It'll be interesting to see if we get a JSA back, which one we'll get. The original Robinson "Earth-2" was definitely calling back to pre-Crisis, especially with Peej and Huntress being who they were, but that ship may have sailed with the book and so they might go back to post-Crisis but founders, none of the kids.
>>81377529
>>81377505
Burial and moving on is sounding more and more like the better idea. It's just such a shame that it really has to be this way, unless something miraculous happens
>>81377369
They have know that's not the case.
The book opened by killing Trinity and sales were very strong.
Even as it became shitty and got a new Batman and Superman, they were still obviously distinct from the regular ones.
>>81377572
>JSA without Rick Tyler
That's not a world I want to live on.
>>81377685
>>JSA without Rick Tyler
>That's not a world I want to live on.
Anon just because most of us are more familiar with the modern revival of the JSA under Johns, doesn't mean that it's the only one possibleStill it kills me that I'll likely never see my husbando Sandy again.
>>81377773
I really didn't care for the post-relaunch direction they did with him.
He's just suddenly mysterious and more like Wesley out of the blue.
And I feel like the younger characters are just the natural progression of the JSA.
Unless (and this is so obvious and potentially-rad that I can't believe it never occurred to me before) they just did an entire JSA series set in and around WWII.
Sure Bombshells already does it, but who cares?
>>81377943
I like this idea, strictly for Nazi and Japanese Wonders. But of course, it must progress through the cold war
>>81378059
What wouold a Japanese wonder even be
>>81378059
Aw geez, would we have to watch them get thrown under the bus by McCarthy's congress and disband all over again?

>>81378401
I really wanted to make a reference to Muslims here, but given context, your joke is way better
>>81377943
Robinson initially wanted his E2 book to be set in WWII with the GA versions of the heroes.

When this book started it was the best book at DC with only Swamp Thing and Wonder Woman able to challenge it. I'm still shocked how fast it went to shit. I got a monkeys paw with Worlds end because I always wanted to see a story where Apokolips came to a world and no matter their resistance Darkseid still destroyed their world. But not like that, not like that .

>As for pre-Rebirth titles, several, including the previously announced Gotham Academy and Earth 2, will simply be continuations of their previous incarnations, and weren't considered Rebirth properties. Similarly, Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner's Harley Quinn will remain largely the same.
