Does Jim know who Batman is? And, if he doesn't, does that imply that he's a bad cop?
I think it's let on that he knows but doesn't care. Depends on the writer really.
Does he almost call him Bruce in the most recent issue?
>>81375199
I like to think that all of Gotham knows and they're just letting him have his fun as thanks for saving so many of them.
I mean really the cost of the Batmobile alone really narrows down the possible candidates to one one hand
>>81375199
Well yeah, Jim is Batman.
>>81375752
So they agree on Batman's Policy with the Joker?
>>81375199
He does not know, because he does not care. This has been pretty common for Gordon in a bunch of different stories.
Batman acts in a mainly criminal capacity as a vigilante, IF Jim Gordan had direct knowledge or reason to believe that any one particular person was Batman, he would be bound by oath and ethics as a law enforcement official to investigate or even arrest that individual as per the law.
>>81375836
You mean to always turn him over to the fallible system of law that Gordon is sworn to uphold? And not cross that line of becoming murderers themselves? Yeah.
>>81376030
It's called the death penalty, does it not exist in Gatham?
>>81376083
Joker( and most of batman's villains) is/are insane, so he does not get the death penalty
Even though he has shown that he knows that what he is doing is morally wrong
>>81376083
You can't execute the legally insane, Arkham is an insane asylum. Plus, I think Gotham is still located in New Jersey, a state that abolished Capital Punishment.
>>81376083
Not for those poor poor people stricken by uncontrolable insanity.
Who will speak for those victims, if not the law?
We HAVE TO act in the name of justice and fair treatment!
Where is your liberal guilt today, /co/???
>>81376148
>>81376187
>>81376277
does Batman truly believe that the Joker can be rehabilitated
>>81376187
Is Gotham a stand-in for New York, Chicago, Baltimore, or WHERE???
>>81376187
>You can't execute the legally insane
The amount of times he's killed, why the fuck is that still on the books?!
>>81376350
He has been cured of his insanity(temporarily) in three separate stories.
So there's actually "hope" for him.
>>81376391
Because: TRUTH, JUSTICE, and the AMERICAN WAY.
>>81376083
Actually, it does not. In the Modern Age, Gotham City is located in New Jersey, which has no death penalty, and is historically full of mafiosi.
It depends on the story, but it's usually pretty heavily implied he knows. There's a really great example from near the end of No Man's Land, so.
Fuck it, I'm storytiming the issue.

That's up for the state to decide. Gotham may be a major city, but it's "one" city. Not to mention all the chaos that would cause in courts. While the federal government does support capital punishment and crimes at that level would warrant it, he's protected by his insanity.
Or maybe they've seen enough shit to know he'd just come back from the dead?
>>81376350
Yes.
>>81376148
The insanity plea does not work on repeat offenders

It's all the worst parts of every major metropolitan east coast city put together.
>>81376391
You have to remember, the man isn't responsible for those killings. He's merely a victim of the Batman's psychotic obsession.
>>81375199
He suspects him in Year One but I don't remember what happened with that. Or perhaps he accepted that lame alibi about a skiing accident in the Alps and wasn't suspecting him anymore all these years.

The idea is that it represents all the seedy, dangerous, violent happenings that go on during the night in any big city setting. Sort of like film noir and Los Angeles.

Batman: Secrets.
>>81376030
I imagine you average citizen of Gotham is much more vengeful and pragmatic than Gordon or Batman. Same as in real life. If some one shot Dick Cheney tomorrow I don't think people would feel bad about it even if he doesn't go to jail.
Jim knew Dick was Batman, too.
>>81377089
>wanna /ss/?
>>81377726
I did.
Thanks for the storytime, anon.
Snyder writes like Joker and Gordon both know without having to confirm it. Morrison wrote joker as obviously knowing but for some reason continuity doesn't apply to his stuff.
>>81375199
All I know is that Bob Hastings is always Gordon when I read.
