Hi, HB!
I've finally read chapter 2 of "Nervous Anatomy", and I liked it a lot: airhead Jackie is really funny, especially when combined with Star's antics.
If I may have a small nitpick: there seems to be a lot of the text depicting the characters while they remember, think, ponder, wonder, etc. To me, that slightly kills the story momentum, and doesn't enrich it particularly, since you can easily give hints of how Marco and the others feel by just describing what they do or say, IMHO.
But really, that's just a nitpick: love the story, and I'm lo9oking foward to the continuation!

I've also been working on a short dumb fanfiction during my breaks at work that hopefully I'll actually finish. A spell of Star's goes wrong, Marco starts having feelings he's not equipped to deal with, etc. And Janna's involved too! It's not the most original idea, but I'm having fun with it. Haven't written prose since I was in school, but I think it's turning out alright regardless.

I'm something like 1,000 words in(a lot of which is rough outline)-- it'll probably be two chapters, ~3,000 words total? Depending on how lazy I wind up getting with it. There are parts I might chop out because they don't seem like they'll be that fun to write, and I don't really know what I'm doing for the ending, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Oh no yeah I'm definitely just sort of writing as I go, I'll worry about the ending when I get there. I started cause I had a couple of lines I liked stuck in my head-- a snippet of an internal monologue from Marco-- and I've basically been hacking away at it since then, adding sentences and paragraphs before and after that snippet until it's started to resemble a story.

Writing Marco feels really natural to me, (and Star is kind of obliviously doing her own thing throughout most of the story)-- but Janna is the other POV character, and trying to write her is suffering from that problem where the character you're trying to write is cleverer than you are. Makes it hard to be convincing.

Well you don't have to write Janna as some master maniulator/rogue. You can make her more in-keeping with the other characters, with a penchant for being trisky and scheming. Honestly, it's more important to write the character trying to do something in a way that feels like they'd actually be doing it that way based on their character traits than being successful.

Perhaps a comparison of how characters would deal with a scenario could help in writing her. Just think of a situation and insert Marco, Star and your interpretation of Janna into it and imagine how they'd respond. If nothing else, just go with what works for you. HaremBro's dumb Jackie is a good example of an interpretation of a character having some real weight behind her due to the manner in which she's written interacting with Star and Marco.

I finally managed to read it: great chapter, NewbWriter — even though it feels slightly like a cop-out, that Marco and Janna got out of their hangover through magical means. Oh, well: at least their relation is slowly evolving, and I'm very curious to see where the story goes next!

It's my opinion that the Steven-bomb format had hurt that series more than it had helped: for as good as attracting new viewers to the series the bombs could manage to do, months on end of hiatus are surely draining the fans of their enthusiasm.
Let's just hope we won't have to wait until summer too, for S2 to start!
