It's written like an indie movie. More scenes of people talking and characters with different ages, sexuality, and situations not always the bog standard. Hence variety = tumblr.

You ever see that "how to draw a character: tumblr style" with the short fat brown bulldyke? You probably have. That's what half the characters look like. Also the story blames the shit out of Marko for knocking groceries or something out of Alana's hands because she'd been doing drugs, and treats him like a horrible wifebeater for it. Like, it makes sense for Marko to feel that way about himself because of his upbringing, but everybody else just lets him think he's Hitler.

Little aspects like that and the fact the story runs more on feeling than logic, I think, are what make people cry tumblr. Plus at its core it's about the struggles of raising children, which not everybody cares about/can relate to.
