Jack's smug face was the best.

So I'm rewatching the series for the first time since I was a kid and this show is really fucking great. The only thing keeping it from perfect is how Jack's development doesn't seem to stick. I just finished the episode against the robots that wreck a bunch of towns and Jack is useless until he gets the robot arm. He didn't use his super hearing to detect the invisible one. Then in the next episode, he encounters a cliff and has to turn back instead of using his jump good.

Well the ultra-bots were broken as fuck which is why he's mostly useless against them. And the super-hearing really only worked because the environment of the archers was so silent. Probably doesn't work as well for detecting the invisible one when there's fires burning and a bunch of other robots running around making noise.

But yeah, the jump good thing always bothered me because it would be a big game changer.

I really miss how back then writers weren't so obviously concerned in constantly asserting their superiority over the audience. Nobody at all, adults or actual intended audience, EVER, could possibly not see the Warrior Woman "twist" coming; they could have lampshaded it as much as they wanted, but they just acknowledged twists are lazy cliches so they just played it straight, and the episode actually works *because* you know what's coming

It's probably a good thing the show ended when it did. The quality noticeably dipped in season 2 for a lot of episodes, although season 2 also has some of the better ones of the series. Season 1 was better overall.
