In that case, it makes perfect sense.
Our real finale was basically It Could've Been Great/Message Received, which would pretty well parallel The Return/Jailbreak in amount of shit revealed and giving an awesome song and Log Date was the more wind-down follow up like Full Disclosure was.

While it's natural for us outside observers to create stories around why things are the way they are, I think the reality is probably much less interesting. Releasing as many episodes of a show as quickly as possible is not necessarily the best strategy from a business standpoint, depending on what you're trying to do; if I had to guess, the delay is just there to build up a big backlog. At best, Lapis and Peridot have a platonic devotion to him. If there's any sort of "love" in there, it's that whole Agape thing (unconditional love, like one would love their homeland or a king might love his people).
