>Mfw the wife says she likes Marvel movies because they aren't nerdy and because they're funny

Pure cancer, this shit is the worst thing to happen to Marvel from a real fan perspective.....this is the world we live in, humor should be the main priority of comic book heroes and it should try to alienate nerds cause they suck

Anybody who supports this crap is cancer, pic related is you...in the girls position
>>
I feel like those kind of interactions don't actually exist.
More like,
>Oh, do you read batman?
>No, I just like the movies.
>Okay

Only on the internet where they don't actually have to confront someone would they get pissy.
>>
>>81160283
>being proud of being the guy in the pic
lmao everyone calls you a sperg and you're ok with this
>>
Those are some hot opinions there guy. If it fucks with you so much, get a divorce and go live in a cave where no one can hurt you or your comic book sensibilities. Make sure the bear you room with is up to snuff first though.
>>
Let's be real.

Comics have always been a hobby for perpetual adolescents. There are less than a dozen brilliant gems in the entire medium.

I'm not saying 'stop liking them', just have some perspective about it.
>>
>>81160429
i got a title wrong once at my LCBS and the guy who corrected me has been an asshole to me whenever i'm there ever since. he overheard me and a friend talking about a concert we were excited to go to and from across the store shouted about how they sucked. i don't see him act this way to other customers, and i'm usually the only woman in the shop... these facts MAY not be related, though...
>>
>>81160283
>being married
Fucking lol, ur prob a cuk too
>>
>>81160545
He's trying to impress you.
>>
>>81160542
>I think big 2 superhero comics are the entire medium
This is why you have your retarded opinion, retard.
>>
>>81160545
what band?
>>
>>81160472
Get off this board and go back to Tumblr, I know 4chan is trendy now or something (what else would explain the presence of you people in mass in the last two years) but fuck off to your home

>>81160429
That isn't what the comic is saying
>>
>>81160429
Yeah man, what sort of sperg antagonizes strangers on the street? If anything he'll say "cool" because he's trying to get it on with the girl.
>>
>>81160545

next time tell him ''it doesn't matter, I just go there to get laid with hot and muscular guys'' and he will be crushed.

to anything just reply that, its not about you getting laid, is about telling the guy about how anyone but him is atractive enough to fuck
>>
>>81160587
I'm talking about the entire medium.

Outside of Marvel & DC there isn't as much brilliance unfettered by corporate profit margins as you seem to imply.
>>
>>81160648
Then he'd call her a slut, and the cycle would be complete.
>>
>>81160688

then she goes ''pffft, virgins calling a person with a sex life ''sluts'', stop projecting!''

besides when dorks call girl sluts is always because of them being jelly of the girls

A girl who wears shirts for shit she isn't even interested in is the desperate one
I've confronted girls about wearing rock shirts when they clearly don't know the band, doesn't bother me because I've been laid and know enough girls who actually are deep into music
>>
>>81160722
>besides when dorks call girl sluts is always because of them being jelly of the girls
Of course, but both sides feel victorious after that comment.

jesus christ
>>
>>81160649
How high is the bar here, exactly?
Are we setting it at Grapes of Wrath? The Aeneid? Carmen? Ulysses? One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish?
>>
>>81160772
>A girl who wears shirts for shit she isn't even interested in is the desperate one
It's just a shirt, goddamn. Nobody thinks wearing a band t-shirt will get them laid.
>>
>>81160649
What is your criteria here? I'm done if you're one of those faggots who thinks like "if it's not a realistic personal drama it's not worthy of being called great"
If you're not like that I'd direct you to creators like Dave Sim, David Mazzuchelli, Joe Sacco, Harvey Pekar, Pheobe Glockner, Moebius or Charles Burns
Comics really don't have a worse ratio of good to bad material than any other medium, think about how much shit music and how many shit movies there are
>>
>>81160831
Yes they do. If you were a shirt or any clothing that has something on it that you know nothing about, you're just a poser and deserve to be called out 24/7

You people are the reason hobbies die.

>>
>>81161146
I'm not sure if this is a falseflag but I've never read a 2000 AD comic and I still enjoyed Dredd. I can assume the majority of the people who watched it was the same.

Yes, but it's more sad because he's an "adult" who probably never figured out that it isn't a very good way to impress people.

>>81160934
On the one hand, someone builds an impressive piece of machinery and the first response is "just some fake poser." A huge douchebag. On the other hand, how do you not finish Portal? You can go through the entire thing in one sitting, what point would you cut off?
>>
>>81161191
I didn't even know Dredd was a comic book until a little while ago. Never saw the original either.

Also, you don't know what a false flag is.
>>
>>81161232
The point where you can't beat the puzzle?
>>
>>81161174
It's that and also intimidation by nerds who think that if regular people enter their circle, they no longer will be special for being part of the cycle. They think you have to earn the right to read a comic or think a design is neat, and experience the pain they did or else it's not 'real'.
>>
>>81161232

Did she actually make the item, though? I mean, she's wearing a portal shirt, too. Did she make the shirt? Or did she just buy this shit for a game she didn't even like enough to finish?
>>
>>81161285
I suppose, but I don't remember Portal ever ramping up in difficulty. I'm not trying to discredit her, it's just strange.
>>
>>81160969
Acting like everyone who thinks you're an idiot is flirting with you is the only way idiotic vapid attention whores sleep at night.

>>81160940
No it isn't, it isn't the same as buying a fucking 3 dollar ball cap at a gas station even though you don't like your home team just because you need a hat. Comic book merch, band merch, movie merch, etc is almost ALWAYS overpriced...meaning if you buy it you're buying it for a reason

If that reason isn't supporting something you're passionate about, you're a shitty attention whore using a medium you don't support to get approval from others
>>
>>81160999
fuck off reddit the upvote downvote thing is garbage
>>
>>81161249
A false flag is when a person pretends to be someone they hate them proceed to act like a cunt so that other people will dislike the false flaggers enemy.
>>
>>81161347

>meaning if you buy it you're buying it for a reason

What if you like the design?
>>
>>81160934
A six year old could finish Portal.

Not that the point isn't valid, just sayin'.
>>
>>81160934
Regardless of the blatant sexism and the overall point of her comment, how can you not finish portal? Its like 2 hours long.
>>
>>81161373
So you think I'm false flagging as someone who's doesn't read comics. Kind of a dumb statement to make, but whatever.
>>
>>81161347
You sure are getting mad, Poindexter.
>>
>>81160283
The thing is, people do this to each other about everything. I remember being a freshman in high school wearing a Seahawks sweatshirt the season the went to the Super Bowl and people would harass me saying I'm a bandwagoner and not a real fan.

I'm a big fan of football. My family is poor and Seahawk sweatshirts were on sale when my mom got me one as a present
>>
>>81161389
>What if you like the design?

That's fucking stupid. Swastikas look cool, I'm not going to wear one around my neck.
>>
>>81160934
>like Portal
>instead of playing Portal, get a physical portal gun prop
That's honestly pretty dedicated.
>>
>>81161404
Most women don't have an innate grasp of objects in 3D space and physics. A smaller number of people lack basic problem solving skills at all.
>>
>>81161463

Okay assuming we're not wearing a symbol of mass human genocide, what's wrong with liking a design?
>>
>>81161486

I still find it hard to believe you can say you 'like' a videogame without even finishing it.
>>
Welp, this thread unexpectently went to shit.
>>
>>81161463
I hope you can tell the difference between wearing a Nazi uniform and wearing a Superman t-shirt.

>>81161615
Was it really that unexpected?
>>
>>81161614
I do it all the time. I hardly ever finish a game if it's too long or if I get stuck too long at a certain point or I start another game, even if I really like it.
>>
>>81161639
Yes, unexpected. Live action threads are usually so wonderful and pleasant on /co/. I sure am glad that live action is welcome on this board. Live action has most certainly done more good for /co/ than bad.
>>
>>81161585
>what's wrong with liking a design?

The swastika is as important to some people as the Batman logo is, or any other symbol.

Wearing it for fashion is an insult to those it has meaning to because you're basically saying "this means nothing", and if you DO do this, being defensive about it is the wrong way to go....admit you're a whore, don't say LOL ONLY NERDS LIKE THIS ANYWAY, while you're fucking wearing a symbol that nerds made important, if you don't get this I don't get why you're on this board

Not only that, but as I said this kind of merchandise isn't cheap, it's double to tripple the cost of a regular shirt for a graphic tee most times, so if you're buying it chances are you have some reasoning for it "this is hip, this is cool, etc"
>>
I know how you feel OP. my wife's son told me he prefers marvel for the same reasons. Why can't they appreciate art?
>>
>>81161486
With the character focus and shortness of it, I would say watching a let's play of it is just fine.
Not like she's claiming to be a competetive player in some capacity.

Well, there's a lot of games I really like but have never finished. I keep starting new characters, and never get far enough to actually finish the main quest. I can't imagine someone doing that in Portal, though. It never had a lot of replayability for me.

Still, owning a physical prop is worth a lot more nerd cred in my book than having finished a video game. Especially a critically acclaimed and approachable game like Portal. Portal is pretty mainstream.

This incredibly stupid line of thought is even funnier when modern culture, and most of America's culture in the first place, is about mishmashing icons into subversive or irreverent forms. Do you have to research the history of circuses before you can wear a Superman shirt? What form do you need to sign, and how many 1930s films do you need to watch before you become worthy of putting on a Mickey Mouse swimsuit? Your stupid barrier to entry is totally imaginary.

>>
>>81162129
Snob is a negative term. I don't mean it's inaccurate, but rather that of course they're dicks. If they weren't dicks who wrap their identity around consuming a specific genre or medium, they wouldn't be snobs.

It isn't about the RIGHT to wear a symbol, you have the RIGHT to wear whatever you please. But understand you will be viewed a certain way.

If you wear a band t shirt and I say "what's your favorite song?" and you reply with "i never heard of this band", realize why you're being viewed as a vapid whore and move on, do not defend it

And on the other side, if you're wearing the same band shirt and I ask the same question and you say "OMG I JUST LOVE ALL OF THEIR STUFF, FUCK ME PLZ, IM A TOMBOY LOL" but really have never heard of them, same shit
>>
>>81162260
That isn't normies. That's your crowd. Your people. Also that comic is so fucking old.
>>
>>81161668
This. I like the plot of things, but sometimes games require hours of grinding and that makes me lose interest. Still doesn't mean I'm not a fan, I just like it for different reasons and enjoy talking about it. This is more why I read though, it's easier for me to focus on.
>>
>>81162340
Any game with grinding does not deserve fans.

Funnily enough I've met so many people with "haha so nerdy" /co/ shirts who don't know squat that I have a reflex of discarding anyone who has them as a poser. Not that I'll confront them. I have better things to do.

Then you have the ones claiming stupid things, and that one friend who likes to claim this or that movie was or wasn't faithful to the comics that she never opened.

She came out of BvS loving Lois and Wonder Woman until I started explaining what I didn't like about them based on my comic book reading experience.

It's funny to see her change her mind based on what I say i saw in the books. She does that all the time.

In what worlds are Moebius and Burns realistic? Their works are predominantly filled with surrealism, Burns even uses that weirdness for humor and/or horror in all his work. Hell even Sacco's newest book is a absurdist political satire, which isn't even a new concept to him.

It is necessary to wear clothes.
It is nice to wear clothes you like, and clothes you think look nice.

This is as deep as the thought needs to go. They have no obligation to advertise their hobbies or interests with their clothing. A Batman shirt doesn't send any message other than you've maybe heard of Batman and don't think he's a total douchebag. Also, stop wrapping your entire identity around which franchises you like best, it's stupid.

I've met geeks who get *super* territorial over their fandoms. Like, one time, many many years ago, as our group was talking, someone said the phrase "Who could ask for more?". To which the geek responded "It's a dead man's party". I, being a lyric geek, immediately made the song connection and responded "leave your body and soul at the door."
And the guy gets defensive about it. What right do I have to know anything about Oingo Boingo? He bets I don't even know their latest album title. Tells me I'm not a real fan, and tries to just silence me throughout the rest of the conversation, which had 0 to do with Oingo Boingo.
What was worse was he lied to me about them in order to make himself look better. I was still naieve and impressionable at this point, but it was not a positive encounter with a different fandom.

Whatever clothes you put on - it sends certain signal to the world. If you dress in business suit it says "I'm here to do business". If you put on police uniform it says "I'm officer on duty". Evening dress means you are here to party hard with classy ladies and gentlemen.

Any number of reasons. Either a new game comes out that I'm more interested in playing at the time, or I get stuck on a certain part, decide I'll come back to it later, and never do, or I just don't have the time to play it anymore because I started a new job or something. Just because I haven't beaten them yet doesn't mean I'm never going to get back to them. There are very few games I've straight up given up on.

I'm playing Fallout 4 right now. I know that I should be playing FFXII because I'm enjoying it and REALLY want to beat it, but Automatron just came out and I wanna do that too. As far as problems go, having too many video games to play is not a bad one to have.

Sure I play some games that have some errors/bad parts but if I love it enough I'm still finishing it. Like something I love should be something that's not going to make me frustrated, or where I can forgive it enough for being a great game for 90% of it while having a few tedious parts.

From the perspective of social identity, clothing is symbolic is group membership. Given that humans are social animals that identify with their own "tribes" of ingroup members while ignoring or ostracizing outgroup members, the symbolic use of clothing can easily serve as a sign that a person is a member of a shared ingroup identity.

That is, the clothing is an indicator of whether or not a person is part of the same "tribe" as the perceiver. In the case of comic book fandom, a hobby that has long been in the extreme minority, wearing a piece of clothing indicates to a fan that the wearer is a member of this small and often mocked social group. Thus, if it is revealed that the wearer is not a member of this social group, but is rather an outgroup member, it is logical from a fairly basic human evolutionary standpoint that the comic fan would feel a sense of betrayal, or even rage because they have essentially been tricked into thinking the wearer is a member of their "tribe".

Clothing plays a huge role in how we identify and with what social groups we hold membership. In the same vein, it affects how all others perceive us and our social identity. This is more than just wearing a Batman T-shirt. Consider how you can visually identify members of a social group (goth, hipster, professional) by looking at their clothing.

I'm a PhD student who studies games, fandom, and social identity. My thesis is actually on the importance of clothing in MMOs. It's really cool shit.
>>
>>81164047
Clothing with political nature is specifically made and worn to send a message. A tee with a Batman logo is made and worn to look nice. There is no inherent message except the fictional one you keep claiming people betray.

But that's a different thing. That's a lie.

I wouldn't say "I like playing Street Fighter" because that's not accurate. I don't play Street Fighter. What I WOULD say is "I like Street Fighter", which can mean anything. I like the characters, I like the music, the setting, the story, I like watching tournaments on Youtube. Maybe I just like the stupid American cartoon. In your example, the person would more logically say "I like pro wrestling", because they don't enjoy watching it. They enjoy participating in the culture of it and reading people's reactions to events. Not exactly a common situation, but all of that is still captured under the umbrella of "pro wrestling".

Not even getting into how language isn't always perfectly logical because the human brain is lazy and relies on shortcuts to handle all the shit it deals with every day. Not being able to pick up on those linguistic shortcuts and needing someone's point precisely spelled out for you so you do not jump to a wild conclusion based on a missing word is either deliberately misinterpreting a person so you can correct them or.

Well.

The clothing we wear is, for most people, a very active choice because it is one of the easiest ways to physically project our identity. It is, of course, very possible that someone bought a Batman shirt based solely on the design because it is designed to be aesthetically pleasing; however, even though that person would be illustrating an aspect of their identity that appreciates the design, clothing is perceived as symbolic of an identity by others simultaneously as we use it to identify ourselves. That is, identity does not exist in isolation of the individual but without the individual in social group identity.

Thus, ultimately it doesn't really matter for what reason the person is wearing the clothing as it has a common external meaning as a symbol of comic fandom group identification and will likely be perceived as such. Then, once again, you go back to eliciting feelings of betrayal or infiltration in the ingroup by an outgroup member.

I've been browsing this board for years (before Homosuck and MLPocalyse, when /co/ was best board on 4chainz) and honestly the only comics I have read in my life are:
Batman Venom
Maximum Carnage
Killing Joke

True, there's a lot to it too, here's how it works: every now and then a certain subculture that was once hated or ignored soon becomes cool and fashionable, it happened in the 60s with the hippies, in the 70s and 80s with the Punks, in the 90s and 00s with the hip-hop crowd, and then in the 00s with the Goths and emos. Soon enough the original crowd gets upset with the new guys who are just in it for the fashion, which is kind of true, specially when its pushed by the fashion industry. SJWs think its about gender, which is funny because growing so many actual geek girls that I knew despised the so-called "fake-geek" girls.
Watch this vid for more info: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nwGndfR4l4
This is actually kind of interesting Ive been living in America for 15 years and Ive already seen about three subcultures come and go, makes me wonder what kids will be into couple of years from now.

FFXII is my favorite Final Fantasy, and one of my favorite JRPGs of all time.

Oh god no, anon. I had a Aspergers-diagnosed (he made sure to bring it up at every opportunity) orbiter in high school who liked me because I was into anime. Pasty, wiry motherfucker who kept making cringey references every moment and thought he was a great singer and actor. He kept me filled in on his gluten allergy and how he had to go to Seattle to get his bowels drained.

The hilarious thing was, one of my friends was interested in him when he first showed up because he was 'cute' in that lanky anime-boy way, so she was jealous. Later on she thanked me for taking the bullet instead of her.

If you like their designs then you should wear a t-shirt with their designs.

But if you say that you like the characters themselves then that's [problematic].

When someone looks at your t-shirt and asks "Are you a fan of those characters?" then you should answer "No, but I like their designs."

If they get upset over this, then they are the ones being [problematic], not you.

The overall theme fits. Everyone wants to be something/a label, even SJWs who cal themselves polysexuals, demisexuals, etc. Most lgbt people are like the average hetero person, in the sense that they don't make a big deal about it, just like a punk that doesn't shout out loud, "IM A PUNK!" Or how a real geek girl doesn't call herself a geek girl. Liliards character was supposed to be the opposite of this, like most retarded "anarchists", he didn't know what anarchy was, he too was a poser, only he used a brainless ideology to make himself look cooler as opposed to fashion. TRUE Punks where the ones on the clubs of New York and L.A. who were desperately trying to change the country's music scene, many, even The Ramones, didn't even like to call themselves Punk, its just some label the media gave them. Its crazy to think pic related were considered punks. You are not supposed to disagree with the rant as much as see the irony in it.

You really think the Nolan movies are a good representation of the character?
The villains are the real focus in all of them, Batman could be replaced with a piece of cardboard.
>>
>>81160283
That's pretty stupid. If I see someone wearing a Bayformers shirt from Walmart I don't assume I can walk up to them and have a conversation about the Titans Return toyline. Maybe I can, I don't know them or what they're really into. I just don't bother them with my diagnosed autism.

And I buy Star Wars shirts despite only knowing the movies and two cartoons, because I expect people to extend the same courtesy I described above.

Just say "Nice shirt" as you pass by if you like the thing. They might even check it out later.

What character? Over the past 75 years, every writer (and editor) has had a different idea of what Batman should be.

Read single-author comics if you want to see characters that nobody gets wrong (and even then it's not guaranteed because authors can still change their minds).
>>

The old board?

Back in the olden days, /co/ was much more liberal and progressive than it is now. Back then, we were on good terms with Scans Daily (the original, not the new one). Back then, /pol/ didn't exist (and neither did /new/), so racist posts were told to return to /b/ and sexist posts were told to return to /v/. Back then, Boostle was our biggest ship (and the mascot for crack shipping in general). Back then, we used to joke that /co/ was entirely women ("Boys on the Internet? Dicks or GTFO! Go back to the garage and fix the car!").

It wasn't until MLP hit that the other boards really invaded /co/ and our disposition changed, first as "cartoons for little girls" became our big boogeyman, then as "anything at all to do with girls" became our red scare.

Holy shit this one is the greatest

No, you're just ignoring what people are telling you and living in your own fantasy narrative.

The proposal is:
>"This game was pretty good up until now, but now it's getting pretty bad, so I'll stop here for now and maybe finish some other time. But overall, it was a pretty good game."
>>

We're talking about metal vs punk. Not music in general

Metallica, Slipknot, Disturbed, A7X, even Linkin Park counts as being a part of the metal genre....are all much bigger touring bands than any punk band.

Motley Crue could announce a new tour tomorrow and sell out way more big venues than any punk band you can think of, not counting something like Greenday since I mentioned them earlier

>>"This game was pretty good up until now, but now it's getting pretty bad,

It's not your favorite game then.
>>

See, there you go again. You're hiding from what was actually written so that you can safely live within your little delusion.

Anon said it was "one of" their favorite games, not specifically their #1 favorite.
>>
>>81178338
It's not ONE OF your favorite games then.
>>
>>81178188
Oh, that's a big miscommunication. Yes, metal is definitely more popular than punk
>>
>>81178436
Prove it. Name a game that they like more.
>>
>>81178436
You don't get to pick that. You faggot.
>>
>>81177706

I wish I could believe it but some of them are too obvious
>>
>>81178458
Literally any game that they finished
>>
>>81177340
>>81177503
That comic strip seems to mock both sides rather than focusing on males or females. That's progressive, I guess
>>
>>81178518
What other games have they finished?
>>
>>81178562
Don't know, don't care
>>
>>81178624
Oh, well, that changes everything.

If only you could have admitted how ignorant you are from the very beginning, then this whole mess could have been avoided.

Maybe next time.

Catch you again next thread! ;^)

No it doesn't. I don't need to know the names of the games to know that if you finished game A but didn't finish game B game B is obviously not one of your favorites. Game A might be or it might not be. Game B definitely is not. Unless game B has no ending

>like 10% of Game A
>dislike 90% of Game A
>finish Game A
>like 90% of Game B
>dislike 10% of Game B
>don't finish Game B
>some dumb idiot tells me that I like Game A (which I disliked 90% of) more than I like Game B (which I liked 90% of)
