I once had a dream that I contend is my idea of a perfect Batman film.

It had Mr. Freeze as the main villain, and it featured Dr. Langstrom, who turned into Man Bat in the late second/third act.

Had a very spooky feel to it with an emphasis on detective work, and the classic "science going too far" as a theme

Everything about batfleck was great except the killing. Even TDK Returns Bats refused to kill and he's one of Batman's more brutal/dark incarnations and what batfleck is based on.

I do love how those hostages and cops were terrified of him at the beginning. All you saw and heard was their terror and screams throughout the building.

Action scenes were top tier as well. Great use of gadgetry.

Batman was obviously a shitty detective in this, the branding was bizzare and out of character, and while Batman seems obviously psychotic, very few iterations have leaned into it this hard before.
Also, his plans were just terrible. If Luthor wasn't there to trigger the fight, what was his plan? Just wait on the roof all night?
Beyond that, there are several moments where he seems to act out of malice or cruelty in his fights, rather than just efficiently stopping his opponents.
And it cannot be overststed to me that he kills people the Punisher wouldn't even have killed. It was way overboard.

One of my favorite bits from BvS was how Batman actually utilized his detective skills and was working a case since before the beginning of the movie.

For that, I'd love to see a more humdrum Batman story, something where the fate of the world isn't in his hands, or where Gotham City is in existential peril. Just Batman working a weapons case or something like that, with the 'legitimate businessman' version of the Penguin as the kingpin. Hell, even bring in some of that 'the Cobblepots were founding members of Gotham' stuff so we can see Bruce spar with Oswald in public.

Movie One: Red Hood.
Spin it as a batfamily movie, perfect for an expanded universe. Bats decides to reunite with some old allies, in the face of a new player in Gotham, the mysterious Red Hood (who is of course Jason Todd). Bring in Nightwing, Tim Drake Robin, Barbara Gordon, and Catwoman. I'm thinking the main villains would be Joker and Riddler. Bats' team and Red Hood are both going after them, but they keep getting in each others way and come to blows. They eventually reconcile and take down Joker and Riddler. Sprinkle in small appearances by other major members of Batman's rogue's gallery, and you got yourself a plan.

Second movie would be that amazing Clayface idea towards the top of the thread. World's Greatest detective vs a shapeshifting serial killer with acting experience? Sign me up.

Don't know about the third one. League of Assassins maybe.

I picture it taking place years before BvS.

I want to see an adaptation of Doug Moench's original Black Mask three-part story, maybe with Dick in place of Jason (Pre-Crisis Jason was just Dick 2.0), add Joker to a couple of scenes for flavor, maybe a low level villain like Firefly as a partner for Black Mask.

I want an established Batman in it who's not quite jaded, but he's seen a lot. Clayface exists, Poison Ivy exists, Harvey Dent is Two-Face already and weighs on his conscience, his relationship with Robin is his way of trying to redeem himself, to give himself hope.

Batcave, Batmobile that's a car and not a tank, Batplane maybe.

Tone should be dark-ish, but not too brutal, not too grim. There's some levity, some moments with Batman and Robin that warm the heart.

No love interests. And Robin is a kid, not some twenty or thirty year old. Fuck that, he's a child.

Then, as a sequel, I'd have them do Mad Hatter, who has assigned Bat characters "parts" as characters in Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass and Batman has to chase around various clues left either intentionally or unintentionally to stop a crime or save somebody (possibly "Alice"). It can turn out that Riddler was pulling Hatter's strings a little to make it more competitive for the Dark Knight. Again, Joker would be in this, but basically just a cameo.

Batgirl debuts in this movie, maybe as a potential victim for Hatter, much as in Haunted Knight. Barbara fights back, makes herself a costume. Robin starts to pull away from Batman, wants to become more independent.

The finale is in a labyrinthine hedge maze, where surreal things happen (possibly hallucinations). Batman eventually convinces Hatter his tea party is pointless.

Batman becomes a little worn over the incident, but remains optimistic because of the arrival of Batgirl.

Professor Pyg. But not the operatic one from the last Arkham Game.

The third movie in the series sees Ra's al Ghul, proper. Middle Eastern, leader of the League of Assassins, Talia by his side (tentatively), Ubu, Lazarus Pits, the whole shebang. He teams up with Mr. Freeze to rid the world of its surplus population, promising to use the Pits to revive Freeze's wife, Nora for his services.

Batman's relationship with Robin has become rocky. Even after the fake kidnapping incident that adapts the first Ra's story, he insists he can handle things himself. He tries solo outings, during which he's secretly helped by Talia. Ra's is trying to drive a wedge between Batman and Robin so either of them might join him in restoring nature (with him as ruler, naturally).

Freeze becomes angry that Ra's hasn't fulfilled his end of the deal for his work, and Ra's revives Nora Fries, but she is horrified by what he's become and tries in vain to stop Ra's, who simply has her put back the way she was before until his plans can be finished. Freeze begins to have doubts about Ra's goals.

Anyway, eventually a giant battle erupts at Ra's HQ that includes Batman, Robin, Batgirl, Talia, and Freeze. Freeze and Talia both turn on Ra's and he's defeated, but Robin wants to go do his own thing and becomes Nightwing.

Fortunately, Batman stumbles upon a young lad trying to steal the wheels of the Batmobile.

Again, Joker makes a token appearance. At the very end, he breaks out of Arkham.

The fourth movie in the series sees Batman take a young Jason Todd, juvenile deliquent street kid, under his wing to become the new Robin. Todd takes to the work well enough, but has a bit of an attitude. Nightwing tries to give him advice, but Jason cops an attitude and insists he can be better than Dick ever was. He begins taking extra risks and almost gets killed.

Then, basically, the events of A Death in the Family occur, but combined with a bit of The Killing Joke. Joker cripples Batgirl, kidnaps Jim Gordon, and kills Jason Todd in one swoop. Batman is out of his mind with rage and it takes Nightwing (or maybe Superman if the studio can spare him) to keep him from just finishing the Clown Prince of Crime once and for all.

This is the darkest one in the series. Lots of suffering and pathos. Only occasional levity. At the end, Batman is a broken, shattered person, ready to become who he is in BvS.

Finally, a movie that takes place after BvS. Batman is searching for a place in a world now burgeoning with other superheroes. He begins to set up Batcaves in different parts of the world, has some semblance of a Batman Incorporated thing going by training proxies that only go so far in their own investigations before they call either him or one of the other heroes in if it's really dangerous.

At home, Bruce finds it hard to be motivated to go out as Batman himself. Some nights see Dick Grayson do it instead. Dick relies a lot on Barbara, now Oracle, for moral and technical support. Bruce and Dick bicker about everything, especially about Jason's death.

However, a case involving the past of Gotham sees Bruce want to step back up into being Batman, because odd clues keep adding up to a bigger conspiracy about how Gotham is run and who the real power players are.

I'm thinking either Court of Owls for this or maybe Gates of Gotham. I'd introduce Tim Drake in a manner similar to A Lonely Place of Dying and by the end of the movie he'd be Robin, and maybe there'd be hints of Talia lurking in the background, maybe with a child by her side, observing Batman.

Not as sure about this movie as the others. Need to think more about it.

But a five movie (and maybe more) series would be great. A long running movie series that doesn't worry about just doing a trilogy. Do as many movies as you can adapting different stories, characters, and tones. This fifth one would inject a bit more hope and light as Bruce regains his faculties.
