Sure, it's hard to suck it up and admit your mistakes, and people would have still been pissed (hell, me too, most likely), but it would have been much better than what he did.
And what did he do? A graphical, drawn-out abortion of the comic's current plot.
He wasted time, wasted our patience, wasted the entire GO cast, wasted interesting plot elements. John waved a magic wand, flipping the bird to everything we knew about Paradox Space's rules, just to poof Vriska back into existence.

You know what makes it worse? John doesn't even have strong feelings about Vriska. This shit had no buildup and no emotional impact, because Hussie fucking LOVES his anticlimaxes. Vriska being the "mystery leader" Calliope, Jade and Jane talked about is yet another instance of this.
Maybe he thinks the story being SO META AND SELF-AWARE about all of this bullshit magically makes it acceptable writing. Hell if I know.
In the end it's still an audible "fuck you" to anyone who actually cares about the story and isn't willing to give said bullshit a pass for the sake of Scourge sisters feelsdrama.

Honestly Hussie's dedication to his ironic internet cool kid persona has only harmed the comic. It works fine when you're just a guy writing a silly internet cartoon, but when you're a guy handling 2.5 million of your fans' donated money, you have to be a little more open and frank about things.
