That kind of "2deep4u" episodes can be a turn off for many fans but I feel that they are some of the best and most meaningful episodes. Hall of Egress itself is easily a top 3 episode for me. They managed to craft a truly unsettling experience with horrific implications. That dungeon even puts the water temple to shame in level of sheer frustration and unsettling terror it produces.

IMO in this episodes case, it works really well because whatever message there is there, it isn't beating you over the head. You could watch the episode without thinking about it and still consider it a good episode because it was interesting and weird.

Please, Steven Universe has open gay relationships, Clarence had two gay mothers (I say had because i don't think it's running anymore) and Korra ended with two straight girls going bi from dumping the same dude. The 'it's not made real because it's homophobic' shit ended years ago. Gay marriage is legal in all 50 states. If they were really held back from having the relationship consumate, it would have happened by now.

The REAL reason is because flirting with the idea, but never following through, is how the writers hook people in. Status quo is God in AT now, episodes may have a few weeks of change, but it's all put back in the end. Nothing sticks around forvever. So if they actually got together, that would mean that they had to break it off again and just go back to what happened before. And given how they dealt with Finn's breakup with FP, they know they can't write something sustainable for that.

The remaining writers have fucked up concepts of relationships anyway, injecting personal drama into Finn so all his romances are a painful cringey mess. They shouldn't bother making Bubbleine real, not because the public wouldn't accept their gay love, but because they'd be called out as having NO idea where to go with them as a couple. Say Bubblegum and Marceline got together. Then what? Marceline's personality doesn't lend to hanging around a kingdom, and Bubblegum's got duties beyond herself. You know why there's so much porn and lewd bubbleine stuff? It's because story-wise they don't have anything to do. Most of the tumblr fan stuff too, it's just about 'oh how will they accept us' shit injecting real life problems into the characters. It's Ooo, we have a tranvestite dog who married a Korean Unicorn thing and had horrid mutant babies that are now more mature than him. There's no concept of 'forbidden love' there. It's about how compatible you are. And Bubbleine doesn't work.

Very true. Most fans can enjoy episodes like HoE without understanding the underlying theme just because of how well done the episode is. For example, I doubt most people watching breaking bad or the sopranos bothered to concern themselves with the those buried meanings in each episode. They just enjoyed what was really great television.

God, everything about the writing of Finn and Flame Princess' relationship after Rebecca Sugar left the show was fucking bizarre. I keep hearing that the FP plot was soomething that was originally was supposed to be handled in its entirety by Sugar, but that nobody on the show knew what to do with the character when she left to make her own program.

It certainly certainly feels like everyone involved was just making shit up as they went, but in that case you think they could have just asked Rebecca for some cliff notes on how that storyline was supposed to go at the goodbye party or something. As blatant as the bubbleine stuff is now, I don't really have a lot of faith in them to have any good come of it since they've spent so long dancing around it instead of committing to it that I don't think they have any idea what to actually do with the relationship at all. It's clearly something that they want to do, but since Korta and SU already beat them to the punch and just having lesbians in your cartoon isn't novel anymore I don't think they actually have any cards to play.

Just watched "Business time" for the first time since it aired. Was a shining example of how nostalgia can blind you to all the bad things in the past.

Overall 5/10 episode. Had some humorous moments but I believe they could have been better.

I doubt it. The statue was just there as a hint, a philosophical one at that. Smashing it would probably not have stopped the effect of the puzzle because the door itself is what was enchanted. There was no way back and the door was the only path forward forcing the trapped adventurer into following that path.

The synopsis at the beginning of this thread explains that the puzzle is a metaphor for something of a midlife crisis. Their is no way back, and no way of knowing what lies ahead. No amount of careful planning and strategizing Is effective in solving the puzzle. Only by blindly charging at it head first and completely abandoning ones past/all that they know and love, can they advance and solve it. It's supposed to be scary and unsettling because it is (the music and sound direction also helped with that).

10/10 episode. Easily top 2 for me.

Like any good video game dungeon, the room had a reset system triggered by closing and then opening one's eyes. This intended to be used if the snowman was destroyed, which would normally permanently lock you out of the solution to the riddle.

Finn used the reset system to temporarily escape out of the dungeon by doing what is essentially a move nobody would ever think (solve the dungeon eyes closed). Unfortunately, it's still a reset system, and he was popped in when he opened his eyes again.

He glitched his way out by finding the dungeon inside the time allotted by the reset system and opening his eyes when he was in a new room, what the system was never intended for. He essentially went out of the bound of the reality.

She'd invite them to parties, fool around with them and generally was a fun and had a bubbly personality, but knew when things were serious (Dungeon episode). They weren't equals in maturity, but I don't think she paraded her maturity above him.

I think the timing on it was such that they wanted to avoid complicated and uncomfortable questions when Finn was really young. I can't imagine how any of that would have gone over well if it was introduced from the get go. Things would have been weird. Weirder than they are now. also to thrown in my angle, Peebs has fun with Finn. Before she made amends with Marceline, Finn was pretty much the only "real" person that she could chill with in the show.
Given the nature of her duty, it's not strange that she took great joy in her downtime spent with Finn. The other Princesses, from what I've seen, do not provide good company.
Not to mention if you think about the fact that PB was the first to break away from the mothergum, means she'd been managing everything since the beginning. She never had a real childhood.
