When was the last time Wonder Woman was written correctly? When did this "Warrior Woman" shit officially start?

>It’s finished now and it’ll be coming out soon. I sat down and I thought, “I don’t want to do this warrior woman thing.” I can understand why they’re doing it, I get all that, but that’s not what [Wonder Woman creator] William Marston wanted, that’s not what he wanted at all! His original concept for Wonder Woman was an answer to comics that he thought were filled with images of blood-curdling masculinity, and you see the latest shots of Gal Gadot in the costume, and it’s all sword and shield and her snarling at the camera. Marston’s Diana was a doctor, a healer, a scientist. So I went back to those roots and just built it up again.
>>
Well the problem is that cape comics are toothless nowadays. Superheroes can't actually change the world they lived in from being more than a parallel of our world and can't really redeem or rehabilitate villains either. So not only is her being a healer not as interesting to read, she'd also by definition be really bad at it.
>>

>When was the last time Wonder Woman was written correctly? When did this "Warrior Woman" shit officially start?

I think it was kingdom come and the dark knight returns/strikes gain from Miller.
Maybe perez also helped a bit.
>>
>>81065203
Every writer creates OC villains, more than they use existing villains

The OC villains usually (70+% of the time) are never used again by the following writer, so she can absolutely redeem villains
>>
>>81065143
>When did this "Warrior Woman" shit officially start?
When Xena became popular
>>
>>81065143
There's no such thing as a "correct" way to write a character that's been evolving for 75 years.
>>
>>81065552
But she's now the complete opposite of what she used to be, a completely different character
>>
>>81065143
thats racist
>>
>>81065696
And you're a fucking idiot if you can't assume the context and the writers intentions

>When was the last time Wonder Woman was written correctly?

Not too long ago. And also not coming back with Morrison.
Plus out of the main continuity Wonder Woman like '77, and to some extent bombshells and Legend
>>
>>81065552
Tell that to wondyfags, they think only Warrior Woman is "correct".
>>
>>81065203
>Well the problem is that cape comics are toothless nowadays. Superheroes can't actually change the world they lived in from being more than a parallel of our world and can't really redeem or rehabilitate villains either.
how is that a 'nowadays' thing?
When was the world ever drastically changed in cape comics in any meaningful and long lasting way? I can think of very few cases except for maybe smaller contained comic book universes as opposed to the broader ones like DC and Marvel. I recall the wildstorm universe being changed by the authority and self contained ones like rising stars. But cape comics reverting to the status quo aint exactly new.
>>
Morrison doesn't even really get Marston's Wonder Woman, much less what the character means for most people since then
>>
>>81065947
I have literally never met someone interested in Wonder Woman who likes that interpretation.
>>
>>81065599
Marston's Diana beat up bad guys, too. That's how superhero stories work.
>>
I think it's more often in team books and guest appearances where you'll get the heavy "let's just make her a cold warrior who doesn't care about humanity" stuff. Hey ongoing generally doesn't do that.
>>
>>81065963
Back in the late Silver/early Bronze Age, Superman comics flirted with having Metropolis being a much more technogically advanced city than the rest of the world due to being a hub of amazing alien technologies and supergeniuses, there were flying cars and retrofuturist architecture and such, it didn't last long.
>>
>>81065963
Well didn't Captain America comics heavily imply Nixon lead the Secret Empire and committed suicide in the oval office?

But yeah it has been a thing for a long-ass time, I just think that it's lazy and doesn't hold up under scrutiny.
>>
Lemme ask everyone one in this thread this (cos i am not super knowledgeable about wonder woman)

What is the correct wonder woman?
Her style, personality, how she acts, what she does. I hear it mentioned often how this wasn't right or that wasn't right. but what is right?

Personally when i think wonder woman i think the following.
>powers: strength, flight, bracelets, speed, lasso that makes you tell the truth and cant be broken, sword and shield, i think her fucking tiara can get chucked at people
>made of clay or son of zeus, i know that got changed at some point which pissed folks off
>I know shes supposed to be a tough lady, but i also recall shes not supposed to be a brash thor type who just wants to fuck shit up. shes supposed to be wise i think? and i think her recent interpretations have not followed that maybe
>i know she was originally all about the bondage fantasies of the original creator
>i know she had an invisible jet at some point or still does (though she can fly so why fucking bother)
>I know that nobody can fucking agree on what her build should be like

thats about it.
>>
>>81065552
There's no "correct" way to write any character. It's art. You can do whatever you want. That's the point.

However other people still have the right to dislike what you do.
>>
>>81065947
There people literally hate Johns for making Diana so blood thirsty, especially at the beginning of the New 52 JL book.
>>
>>81066107
>made of clay or son of zeus, i know that got changed at some point which pissed folks off

Yeah I imagine changing the iconic female hero into a man would piss some people off.
>>
>>81066107
Almost none of the stuff you posted relates to her actual character but her background/origins

I'd probably liken her a bit to Shazam/Captain Marvel in personality
>>
>>81066107
I like it when she can glide on air. Flying make her a flying brick but "swimming" through air sound graceful as fuck.
>>
>>81066181
You jest because anon made a mistake, but there was a sizable amount of people who were legit mad at the idea that Wonder Woman had a MALE father.
>>
>>81066146
He fixed it at least

Who knew it only took actually reading one or two of a character's famous runs to understand characterization that might not upset fans?
>>
>>81065143
>When was the last time Batman was written correctly? When did this "no kill rule" shit officially start?
Just because you love Grant Morrisson doesn't mean you immediatly have to love what he does and agree with the shit he claims. Yes he's getting it 'back to those roots', but that doesn't mean it's good or better than what the character evoloved into.
>>
>>81066001
But that's basically the Perez or Rucka interpretations. Meanwhile Morrison's yet to be released interpretation is getting mixed reactions and O'Neil's version was hated.
>>
>>81066095
>I just think that it's lazy and doesn't hold up under scrutiny.
I don't think lazy has shit to do with it. It's necessary for keeping with what a comic book kind of is. A contemporary story with fantastical elements. Obviously more to it than that and other shit happens. but in the end super hero stories are for the most part in a universe thats 'kind of like our own'.
If you continually had super heroes and their ilk in DC or marvel effect the world in a permanent way the following would be the case.

The world as made by capeshit...
>no diseases
>no hunger
>no power issues (super scientists would solve all of these)
>cities would be abandoned sci-fi utopias full of hovercars, robot maids, teleportation pods, and just plain flying people....except nobody would want to live there because of constant destructive monster and villain attacks
>wed also basically be like star trek insofar that wed be zipping all over the galaxy. The tech people like mr. fantastic and the like use to travel through space all the time would eventually become commonplace and all the aliens constantly visiting earth would set up trade and transport and all manner of typical shit.
>normal crime would probably not really exist in any large ammount. I mean how would it with super heroes everywhere?
>atheism and probably a good deal of religious animosity would be a thing of the past. Thered be norse gods, demons, angels, celestial beings, hercules, and mystical beings from every pantheon all over the place. What the fuck would be the point of killing others over your one true religion or not believing any of that shit exists.

It would be a crazy high tech sci fi world that would be incomprehensible to any actual person living here and now today. And sure that could be cool but if i want that i'll read Top 10 or promethea. I get why comics might want to avoid all that though so people can still read about stories taking place in something close to the 'normal' world.
>>
>>81065963
Read Golden Age comics.

Golden Age Superman regularly faced corruption and got criminals to change their way -- pretty much by force.

I mean, IIRC, Superman #1 features Superman trapping a mine owner (and some of his business associates) in his own mine because the conditions are incredibly unsafe. After the owner has a near-death experience, Superman saves him, and the owner vows to improve the conditions of the mine.

It's sad because that story wouldn't published today for numbers of reasons:
1) "not muh" Superman
2) Essentially a one-and-done plot, as opposed to something in an arc
3) Like 80+% of American jobs are in service as opposed to manufacturing or agriculture/mining. So, hardly even relevant.
>>
>>81066319
O'Neil's version was only hated by one feminist spokeswoman that caused the change back (ironically right before a women's rights arc was going to start). It was mostly alright besides killing off Steve, though it wouldn't work as a permanent status quo.
>>
>>81066291
Well, at least it' a different take than what we've been getting for years now, that's why I'm excited to read it at least, even though I can't judge it's quality yet.

On that note, I would love an alternate world story where Batman never stopped being a gun carrying forensic investigator, just to see how it would play out.
>>
>>81066338
well, that isn't exactly changing the world.

Also even if it was and heroes did 'world changing permanent' shit back then all the time. It still doesnt make sense to call everything since the golden age 'nowadays'.

My point being super hero actions being reset to the status quo is not a very new thing in the slightest.
>>
>>81066107
Wow in a thread about 'when wonder woman was written correctly' not alot of folks seem to know what wonder women being written correctly would even encompass.
>>
>>81066396
Yeah Morrison turned it into porn. Big fucking deal, there's already dozens of Wonder Woman porn comics.
>>
>>81066338
The same thing happened with Wonder Woman.

She often saved the day by force and violence. Rarely by compassion, and that "compassion" they talk so much about was really just creepy submission stuff.

This "Marston's Wonder Woman was all about love and compassion" is just a meme. And she was quite a bitch.
>>
>>81066696
There's no porn, just lewd
>>
>>81066696
That's some pretty tame porn you've been consuming, friend.
>>
>>81066660
what were you expecting?
>>
>>81066723
He made it all centered around that. Marston's Wonder Woman was not like that. He basically took the creepy kinda sexual things from Marston and made them explicit and it has lot all its inocence.
>>
>>81066771
That's still not porn
>>
>>81066319
Having read O'Neil's run, I don't even know WHY anyone would hate it. It's really weird, but still a solid and entertaining run. The only thing I could possibly hate about it is the insulting way they wrapped it up.
>>
>>81066783
Very well
I'm not even the same anon
>>
>>81066794
Does she still have her powers during that?
>>
>>81066794
Because she's depowered and no longer strong enough to out punch Superman and her master is a male.
>>

>>
>>81066794

I was legitimately under the impression Steve Trever was white when nu 52 happened.

Doesn't surprise me with the cuck writers now a days though

Where is my Chris Clairmont of yesteryear who makes every female character a lesbian for no reason

>>81068013
they made him black just for this story, I was against it to but his race seems to be important to the plot thematically

Sounds like an excuse for hack writing. The "correct" way to write a character is the way that character was established.

The way Batman was presented was as a gun-toting killer, but see how much flack BvS gets for showing that.

Does he even know they exist?

Does he even care?

Does Morrison realize that his argument that Wonder Woman's intent for a more feminine depiction must also include what was considered feminine for the time in which she was created?
