Hey /co/

Do you remember when there was a White Supremist Biker Eco-Terrorist Cultist Gangrape in an animated movie that was shown in theaters across America and almost beat out The Godfather on it's opening weekend?

I wish I did. I wish I was there sometimes.

Fritz the Cat thread?

I miss Ralph Bakshi animation. I miss rotoscoping. The last rotoscoped movie i saw was I guess a scanner darkly...which was beautiful. but that was the first in years and years and years.

Id love to see the style come back but i suppose its just not that popular or enjoyed. It is just too bad animation in the US has to be for the kids in order to make it. I don't mind all ages animated pictures. Id just love some actual mature stuff that took chances.

It's actually really good.

Al Sharpton protested it, and then got BTFO when every black person who went to see it loved it because it's actually pro black.
>>
>>80976789
I've heard from people that were there that even they don't remember it so well themselves because of the drugs they were taking at the time.
>>
The problem is that instead of starting an adult animation revolution, Bakshi became the adult animation guy. Everyone thought it was just his schtick.

If others had followed in his footsteps successfully, the American animation scene might look very different today.
>>
>>80977820
Well, Bakshi did inspire some of the people working on television cartoon series to take more risks and get a bit edgier, which ultimately resulted in cartoons losing a lot of the blandness they used to have.
>>
>>80977316
Heavy Metal is literally what 12 year olds think "adult" means.

Bakshi's biggest disciple is John K, which is kind of unbelievable since he believes that Cartoons can't be deeper than simple comedies.

It's like he took all the edge and comedy and disregarded all of the satire, pathos, and anything more than a dirty joke.

The man's a genius, but none of his students were able to take up his mantle.

Adult = mature.

Heavy Metal (and most "adult" animation in general) is not mature, it's just shit, titties and gore. At best, it's a child's idea of what being adult means.
>>
>>80979271

>i only like mature things for mature people like myself

Fuck off kid
>>
>>80979271
Okay so what "mature" on cartoon is? Any exemples?

You know for Comedy you need to put wacky things inside, and wacky things are related to cartoony violence, funny lewd stuff and vulgar language, because you just can't do that on children cartoons.

People like you always piss off with buzzwords like "edgy" over and over but actually are the first to have edgy attitudes, everytimes talking shit about stuff who just want to make laughs and not intellectual or social commentary.

>>
>>80979271
Truth. Adult animation that isn't all ages would be something closer to, say, The Illusionist. Something that 100% would bore the everliving shit out of a kid but would drive anyone with kids to tears. Not necessarily something graphic, but something that just assumes the audience is of a certain age. There's nothing wrong with blood and tiddies, but imagining that makes any piece of media mature is just silly. By the time we get older, a lot of the appeal of blood and tiddies fades. We'll appreciate it for the spectacle, but not as much as when we were younger and it represented adulthood, like smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol and cussin' and driving cars.

I would say that The Life and Times of Tim is the most "mature animation" we have in the western world at this point.
>>
>>80980774
How come? Even if he was, his comics would still cater to your fetish. I mena, I don't like the guy either but I still love his work. Altought I wouldnt think that "loser" is the proper title for him. He's pretty much the opposite actually. But a fucking weirdo and a creep, yes.
>>
>>80980786
maybe the most mature powerpoint slideshow
>>
>>80980889
I was talking about the subject matter. The animation style is not important for this discussion. It's not gorey, edgy or lewd and kids wouldn't get it. So that makes it pretty mature in my book.
>>
>>80980693
I thought it was pretty awful.
Not that it was put together poorly; I just didn't like it.
>>
>>80980911
I don't think kids not getting it somehow makes it more mature. I only gave The Illusionist as an example of something that's targetted at older animation fans and unappealing to kids, I wasn't using its mundane plot itself as an example of maturity. Pixar films are pretty damn well thought out while still being popular with kids.
>>
>>80981018
True. What about the movie adaptation of Persepolis then? Haven't seen it myself but from the looks of it, it seems pretty damn mature without being edgy, gorey or lewd.

The interviews with Ralph Bakshi are rather entertaining and interesting.
>>
>>80981033
Gorey, edgy and lewd are just tools for comedy actually.

It's again the same shit, you prefers just dramatic stuff ( the thing you call "mature" ) to Comedy stuff, so you starts to says comedies are not adult because humor is a childish thing according to your emo logic.

Yeah. I remember how garbage it was and how it completely ruined adult animation and made way for garbage like Family Guy and South Park.

With my last words I curse not John K, but the idiots at Cartoonnetwork which allowed the "What A Cartoon" pilot cartoons to air.

Oh sure allow all the talentless hacks into animation which probably suffer from stupidity, but don't allow Disney animators to come up with their own cartoons.

>>
>>80977931
Andrew Stanton also got his start under Bakshi, I believe. ..I mean, it was on the Mighty Mouse reboot, but from what I understand, John K. took it over halfway through.
>>
>>80978744
Not rotoscoped.
>>
>>80977931
>since he believes that Cartoons can't be deeper than simple comedies.

Well John K's ultimate goal was the entertain children which I think is admirable and part of what made Adult Party Cartoon so disappointing. He just wanted a kid's show that wasn't trying to educate or instill morals in the kids who spent all day doing the same thing at school
>>
>>80986426
Boy is actually really REALLY old anti-black racism. Like plantation days old, slave owners in the south would never refer to a slave as a man since Abolitionists used "all men are created equal" as their primary argument.

All male slaves were referred to as just male or boy. Male in the context of sales, boy when addressed.

So boy is actually one of the worst ones to use. Unlike nigger however, its been mostly forgotten in the north by those who's klan brothers haven't taught them it.
>>
>>80986709
This.
Fritz was just talking about how progressive and totally non-racist he is, then casually slips out with a demeaning phrase.
