Why is the concept of a White-Chinese guy so hard to fathom, for some people. Race/ethnicity and culture aren't the same thing.

I think you could put up a solid criticism of Monstress based on the idea Liu is more used to writing genre fiction novels than comics. Just because someone succeeds in a particular area of arts doesn't mean they're suited to it - are all good novelists good poets? What about writers who succeed most at short stories? Writing comics is as different a medium as any of those (it's actually even more different) and while I don't think Liu writes a bad comic she writes a comic as a prose author for sure.

They're fixated on his origin, and how he's a "fish out of water" in K'un-Lun, which is true. So, they say he could be Asian-American and still find KL strange and not fit in. Fair.
