Who had scarier monsters and concepts? Gravity Falls or Courage the Cowardly Dog?
>>
Is that even a question?

Gravity falls is on Disney XD (as in the face).

Courage was on CN.
>>
>>80844062
Ramses is scarier out of those two because it's in an uncanny-valley art style kids never expected watching Courage; also the otherworldly voice was pretty fucking unsettling.
>>
>>80844181

Which loses all of its effectiveness when he snaps his fingers and goes "Aw, come oooooooon..."
>>
Courage legitimately creeped me out multiple times. What made it so effective was out of nowhere claymation/CGI
>>
>>80844234
Naw, he's still pretty unnerving.

He snaps his finger?
>>
I never found Gravity Falls to be terrifying, the jokes get in the way and most of the time they don't try to develop an eerie atmosphere.
>>
>>80844286

At one point, yeah. After Courage gets rid of one of the curses he snaps his fingers in a "aw dang, so close" kind of way.

And lets not forget RAAAAAAAAAMSEEEEEEEES! Honestly, that episode was one of the funniest.
>>
>>80844253
Nothing in GF comes close.

Top one looks kinda like that Sonic/Shadow toilet.
>>
Courage had atmosphere and drastic changes in style to help the horror. GF was always bright, childish and cartoony, no matter what was happening.
>>
>>80844344
Kids who weren't scared in the first place were the only ones who hadn't noped the fuck out of there at that point. I honestly never even watched the second two-thirds of that episode because it was too spooky for me.

>>
>>80844093
XD doesn't actually have a meaning or a purpose.
>>
The monsters in Gravity Falls are pretty generic compared to Courage. On top of that, Gravity Falls has some interesting concepts but always manages to fall flat upon delivery.
>>
>>80844234
>>80844344
I thought it was so hilariously absurd he did things like that, that the creepiness wasn't affected at all for me. I can see it ruining things though.
>>
>>80844062
Courage on average had scarier monsters and villains, but Gravity Falls had one gut wrenching moment that outdoes everything Courage put up: The idea that a beloved family member is long dead and a stranger was impersonating them all along.

GF's art style is too cute to be scary. It doesn't matter what they throw at you, its all going to be in that art style.

Even the nice guys where terrifying.
>>
>>80845406
Courage is so fucking underrated. It sets a par of quality so high that really only Samurai Jack can measure up to it.
>>
>>80845406
So the tree was basically Jesus, right?
>>
Courage had Eustace's Trumpet
>>
Courage was overall more consistently creepy, while Gravity Falls has fleeting moments of being genuinely scary or even absolutely disturbing. It's mitigated by the show's tone, though, which is less dedicated to creepiness than Courage.
>>
>>80844062
Poor Ramses just wanted you to return the slab. I feel bad for him. :(
>>
>>80847588
It's not underrated desu
It's regularly at people's top lists
>>
>>80844062
Courage. I love GF, but it was a comedy at heart, and Courage was nightmare fuel with an occasional gag.
>>
Both are some of the greatest animated shows of all time.

Definitely Courage. Way creepier. Though GF no going full tilt w/ Bill with more stuff like the deer, re-arranging your orifices, and forcing children to impale themselves and bleed is one of my complaints with GF. But well, Disney.

Gravity Falls.

Courage never really got to me all that much as a kid to be quite honest.

Me either, honestly.

Nah man, Im good. Just thinking about what that must have been like just gets to me man. Bill was definitely made to be either casually unsettling or very deranged and dangerous depending on the moment. Even while he was carrying the idiot ball.

DEMANDING COST!
>>
>>80844540
I use to think the XD stood for EXTREME DISNEY, but then I remembered that it's not the 90's anymore.
>>
ramses was spooky because you didn't really know what the fuck you were looking at

though I'll never understand the kids who got spooked by the giant white wizard of oz head, that thing was just plain goofy.

Courage never scared me as a kid mostly but The Spirit of Harvest Moon unnerved me.

Gravity Falls had only one thing creepier than the actor who became cynical and the bugle-fetus.
>>
>>80850447
This, pick any episode at random and you will find legit creepypasta fuel, courage is still great but most of the time the creepy was also played for laughs
>>
Courage was better with atmosphere and suspense not only than GF, but better than most horror-movies nowadays, which is kinda sad. God, I hate modern horror-movies so much.
>>
Katz in his first appearance > King Ramses
>>
>>80844549
>Gravity Falls has some interesting concepts but always manages to fall flat upon delivery

I think Bill is the prime example for this. So much potential but they decided to turn him into a legend of zelda boss
