I finally got off my arse and started uploading my comic; sad habits. I did post this page here while back and your comments gave me the motivation to keep going, so thank you all for that

>inb4 everyone starts telling me to quit/kill myself

Right now I'm posting my comic on DeviantArt and ComicFury; I'm thinking of posting it on a bunch of other sites too. Tapastic, Smackjeeves, Tumblr, any more any of you know of?
Since I'm a beginner I don't see any point in making my own website just yet

Relatable, but then again this is 4chan so...FUCKING DISGUSTING, I WANT TUMBLR TO LEAVE RIGHT. FUCKING. NOW.

presumably that was also the one used in the last thread. they probably linked it directly from there. and by they, I mean me. and by 'probably' i mean now i remember that is exactly what went down

so hey, it's our sestercentennial!

I actually agree on the beak nose - the character is supposed to be not very attractive.

well i think the problem is that her mouth moves and her nose doesnt
except yknow, that's real life. but it's very unpleasant because it has a muppet effect of the nose almost overlapping the mouth.

How do I ease my mind to draw freely? It seems that in the last year, every time I try to draw I'll do well for a bit, then begin to grow irritated, either by lack of progress or some difficulty in the drawing process. Then I get even angrier that I can't just draw, and I end up walking away to do something else.

Do you guys have any methods you use to get yourselves into the right frame of mind for art? Any drugs that might help? Music?

Please help, I'm desperate here. Art is my life.

What do you use to draw?
Software and or hardware

hey, answer from the last thread

I use micron pens although ive been told copic pens are way better to get that scratchy feel that I like.

I have a shitty scanner printer combo but it does the job.

For software I use Clip studio Paint and SAI.
Sai is great for coloring and getting cool line effects, whereas Clip is good for everything else. oh and photoshop. for like, touchups and shit.
>>
>>80790887
Photoshop CS6 by force of habit, tried every alternative I can come up with and always come back to good ol' PS.
Hardware I use an intuos pro medium.

nice use of color
but two things

1-its a personal pet peeve of mine so maybe its fine but you should only use comedic chibi faces to amplify a joke, not just cause and especially not more prevalent than their regular expressions

2-if youre going to parody rpg with generic characters, push it even further, maybe have the character themselves be parodies

>>
>>80793519
...I'd honestly like a webcomic of lewd little slutty girls, anon
>>
>>80793519
as long as you make it good
or make them bonus comics?
>>
>>80793570
But I'm so confused, I thought about going clean but I just end up getting bored and thinking with my dick.

I always think, "Well this is going to be fun to do" then I draw the setup and I get bored and the demon inside me is like "You're a pervert, draw those girls giving sloppy blowjobs" then I have a lot fun with that instead

>>80793640
>or make them bonus comics?

The problem with that is I could create a fanbase with not into lolicon, so if I come out with doing a bonus comic where one of the little girls is in girl scouts and with the need of sales, she convinces buyers with purchasing their cookies by bjs then it just becomes a bit odd and shocking for that fanbase.
>>
>>80793519
i mean, my mind went to sexy things too, but not full-on gross hardcore stuff like giant cocks and ahegao. I imagined in-character stuff that girls might actually tease each other with at a sleepover or something. i think you need to good-bacteria those demons a bit with some lesser minor perversions that drown them out
>>
>>80793298
If you want it to look more dragony, what I would do would lengthen the neck and tail regions a bit, first off, though mostly the neck so the dragon head can stick out more. Second, I see what you're going for with the limbs, but maybe the dragon aspect can be better communicated if those legs were more reptilian than crustacean.

It's a really strong start to a design, I need to say.

For myself, I'm actually going back to updating my own webcomic tomorrow. I have 3 pages done so far, the first is queued for tomorrow. I'm planning two updates a week, should fortune favor me.
>>
how does one start a web comic? please cover things like:
>getting a website
>hardware needed
>is this poorfag friendly?
>>
How do I get smooth lines when drawing? I have a bamboo touch and trying to get really smooth lines
>>
>>80793967
You can go the website route, and advertise your website, or you can go the easier route and upload to a website like Tapastic. The latter is better if you're a new name, since getting a readership on a website of your own can be quite hard, unless you know someone who is already popular.
>>
>>80793967
>getting a website
You could get a website and have really nice presentation. Or, you could just host it on a blogging site like WordPress or Tumblr and format your blog to look nice.

>hardware needed
A drawing tablet of any description is nice. Wacom does some good ones. Otherwise, if you do traditional, you would need a really good scanner that doesn't make your stuff look like trash.

>is this poorfag friendly?
Depends on what type of job you have, how much time to work on your comic you'd have, etc.

You can maybe open a patreon or get ad revenue if you get moderately popular. There is nothing wrong with just doing it for free (for now)
>>
>>80793967
you dont need a whole lot of hardware in fact at minimum, all you really need is a basic wacom. You dont need a super expensive tablet to make good art (or a tablet at all).
you can go the pencil paper route and scan your stuff in and edit it on your computer (tablet still recommended for editing)
>>
>>80794048
>Tapastic
>revenue
seems good, do you use it? Also what programs/ computer hardware would be needed to make a full comic?
>>
>>80794109
>>80794134
would a regular android tablet work or would it have to specifically be a "drawing tablet"?
>>
>>80794251
I fucking hate apple and android for fucking bringing in confusion over tablets

i mean i guess if you can get one that lets you use a pen and some nice art programs like CSP, Photoshop, SAI, go ahead. Otherwise, stick to Wacom.
>>
>>80794297
when looking for a tablet i'd imagine the ones with a display of what i was drawing would be ideal, correct?

Tapastic was easier when it allowed readers to donate to you directly. Gave me a nice bit of extra disposable income every month. It's since then changed entirely to ad revenue. The ad revenue is pretty small but if you get a few thousand views on your weekly episodes, you will have a good 40-50 Dollars every 2 months or so.

Nothing special, but it's something.
>>
>>80794006

i hate them for taking the ultimate scifi futurist goal of letting you run everything from your computer, including your phone, and changing it to running everything from your phone, including your computer. except locked down and inferior in every way. and worst of all i hate them for genuinely being convenient
>>
>>80794381
ideal, but since money seems to be a concern for you, I wouldn't recommend it for your circumstance. Hell, even I don't have one of those.

>>80794396
You could set up a quick little 3d model of primitive shapes that can be posed, that would help out with not only drawing it multiple times, but would aid in more complex scenes.
>>
>>80794381
ideal and costs 10-15 times as much, yeah.

>>
>>80794251
it all depends on what your comfortable with. They are nice because you can draw on the display.
But since money is an object, you can buy a wacom. The toughest part about drawing tablets is breaking into it and getting used to it
>>
>>80793769
>I could create a fanbase with not into lolicon
you could have implications in the comic
you dont need full on porn to show they're dirty lil' sinners
>>
>>80793570
Can't they be innocently cheeky and/or hormonal without having to go full slutty? A friend of mine told me the goddamn cutest story about when she was little and decided she wanted to be a stripper, and did a burlesque show for her parents, who humored and praised her performance. Because they are the best parents ever. And unlike offspring of strict dumbasses, she grew up fine and chaste
well til she hit the SJW crowd in college but that's another story entirely
Shit like the naked dare in the Parent Trap was in a full-on family friendly disney movie. people used to be able to joke about these things. Sailormoon as I recall...

It was hard for me to tell wh at the joke was. at first I thought the mob died after witnessing her cute ass and was lying in a pool of his own noseblood.

the chest/rare get/embarassment on her face, the three pillars of the joke, were not very clear.

you should have her kill the thing in panel 3 simply by connecting the sword to the dragon, and in the 4th panel focus solely on the 3 things listed above.

>>80795347
ohhh yeah i get it now. i didnt get it either
the problem is you dont see her in whatever she's in to start with
>>
>>80795437
yes, this too. I think this is actually more important. You can keep everything as is as long as in the first/second panel you show her prominantly in whatever lowergarments she wears.
>>
>>80794487
Probably wouldn't be very high. You get money off views, and you generate views per episode you upload. That means no matter the length of your episodes, it wont impact the outcome of revenue generated.

That is why short strips thrive on that site, rather than longer, story-driven webcomics. If you want, you could divide your pages into an episode each. Would certainly generate a lot more views, but readers might get frustrated, due to the layout not really properly supporting that kind of reading.
>>
>>80795347
>dragon
i meant the demon thing. it's not your art, i'm just really stoned. i know how it feels when it feels like people aren't able to/don't care enough to understand the art you do. art is good.
>>
I want to do two webcomics. But, I don't want to get in trouble with the law. ('Murican)

1.) I wanna do a webcomic starring a lady protagonist and her adventures in a polyandrist relationship with a bunch of cool monster bros. There's no inter-personal relationship drama. They're hedonistic. This is not some shitshow "Bella! Jacob! Edward" bullshit, they're reasonable adults just fond of one lady in her D&D-like quest. In fact, they mesh so well together because they're awful people that genuinely don't mind sharing.

The problem with this idea is I won't want people with an axe to grind stalking me and trying to get me to toe whatever progressive bullshit they want me to put in my comic or call me "problematic" or whatever.

2.) I wanna do a webcomic starring a bunch of similarly adventuring shota. Yep, exactly how it sounds. Sometimes it's smut, sometimes it's action fighting mystery solving. But often, it's young protagonists bedding hot babes.

Or a combination of the two.

No, I don't want to turn this into a /co/ project, because quite honestly I'd eventually want to monetize it. :P
But, as I can't draw nor pay for art, it's just writing for me. It exists as a bunch of crude story layouts because I don't believe in starting a project that is open ended and capable of running out of material before it's given a proper ending.
>>
>>80795574
i see what you mean, it may just be up to quality over quantity then
>>
>>80795747
there's no laws against doing two webcomics in the land of the free, citizen.
nor against doing a 63'd monstergirl-comic which is what that sounds like
nor what mercifully it DOESN'T sound like you mean is an adventuring lord of the flies thing. hot babes you say? that sounds fantastic. and pretty goddamn legal
and it's CERTAINLY not illegal to make a buck or two. What that has to do with /co/ I have no idea.
Now as for getting someone to draw it for you, that's more on the 'dream' side of american dream. Even if you could somehow make enough money to pay the artist (what does he need you for? do you have really REALLY good story ideas?) which isn't likely given how much money they need to be able to live (because it's slow work, not because it's remotely in high demand. quite the opposite, there's hungry artists everywhere. but you still can't make them work for less than they need. that's why most people do-without. kinda like handymen), you can't really expect it to be like your vision unless the artist has all the same fetishes as you. the same muse as it were, is required, if you want this to come out good enough to make money.
i'm happy to hear you have layouts but..

>>
>>80797270
>the more unapologetic you seem in your writing, the less fuss people kick up
that's because the people who claim to be speaking their minds are always speaking someone else's mind and hoping that person will come back them up. If you're confident enough that you sound like you already have a personal army, they won't be as eager to challenge it.

That's because modern PC culture has gotten used to people bending over backwards whenever they get called a "racist" or whatever. When met with the slighest oposition, they move onto an easier target

How many artists you guys know that want to get into webcomics, but keep pulling stupid shit about how they are a failure and delete everything they do?

Yesterday ciderward was having one of those tantrums, and today when I woke up I found he just deleted fucking everything.

Is this prevalent? How can it be dealt with? I'd like to help people who I love their art, but keep giving up.
>>
>>80801643
As someone who has done the exact same thing I think it helps to be reminded of the bigger picture. Everyone is shit before they can get better, there's no fast-track to success.

Really? Because I never met a racist that bent over backwards, they always just straight up deny it and then act like their a victim.

But it's not the actual racists who bend over backwards, it's the people who are terrified of being thought of as one

>>
>>80809716
Not all Arabs are incredibly devout Muslims, just as not all Americans are evangelical Christians.

I'd say that it's highly probable that cartoonists from the Middle East are writing in Arabic, and thus less likely to become known to Anglophone readers. Same with cartoonists from Far Eastern countries like Malaysia and Thailand, etc.
>>
>>80809716
It's also against the ten commandments but most Christians don't tend to follow that one.
>>
>>80809977
yeah but that does skew the results. the culture has an effect on the proportion of webcomics artists that belong to this or that group

>>
>>80810354
it isnt though. that's a drastically radically misunderstood commandment. kinda like the taking the lord's name in vain thing. the difference is one is europeans being ignorant of their religion's judaic roots, the other is middle eastern people who know exactly what jews are about, but hate them, and think they're the real descendants of abraham, and change their version of things til they're totally retarded

It is.

"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness [of any thing] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth:"

It's why certain fundamentalist christian sects like puritans, amish, or jehovah's witnesses don't use representational art.

People like to ignore it and say "Well, what it REALLY means is..." but that's what it says. All the Abrahamic faiths are basically the same and you have to be really nitpicky to find the differences.
>>
>>80812180
>king james version
an unfortunate hindrance to christianity it has carried with it like heavy metal poisoning for centuries. all because of antisemitism
>>
>>80812180
>>80812347
er, though in this case the problem is abbreviation. you excise a sentence and ignore the preceding and subsequent lines, you can make anything say just about anything.
>>
>>80812447
>what it REALLY means is...

There you go, proving my point. Most Christians just ignore it.
>>
>>80812607
more like 'what it REALLY says in the previous and next bits'. it's literally a phrase in the middle of a commandment (well a lot of people think it's two but it's pretty clearly one. lutherans call it one, but then they split the last one into two because they're weird)

not to belabor the point, just saying, it's important to get your shit right, especially when dealing with anything people care about. that's hella important for webcomics or any kind of creative act. You don't wanna take Nietzche's "god is dead" as a murder confession for example. Call it 'nitpicky' if you want, being loose and lazy with your quotation and referencing is a great way to be the kind of wrong that fucks up people's shit, instead of just the kind that makes you look like an idiot.
>>
>>80812607
>Yahweh gets mad at his people for bowing down to a golden calf out of boredom
>Next chance he gets he has them add little golden statues to the edges of his magic box that may or may not have contained fatally radioactive material
Golly gosh what an inconsistency. Religion must be totally wrong and fake and everyone who believes in it is an idiot who NEVER noticed that inconsistency before! It's not as if I've missed a key "and worship it" bit that was right there in the text. Nope, it's them. They're the stupid ones, not me.

also... this font of yours appears to be just changing size of the letters at random
i really implore ya, if you're only at page 2, it's not too late to pick a better font. granted this isn't exactly a masterpiece of a comic yet but why hold yourself back?
also i love that our mailman has to just WALK everywhere, even up mountains. no winged horse for you, mailman. not even a special hat or a mail sack. which would probably make for a more interesting character design
>>
>>80816493
very interesting. it's a bit more swirly than any real world log i'm aware of, but it does suit the general comic aesthetic (love those little grass puffs)
without tilting the perspective slightly and then making those lines not only converge but show curvature as they go towards the ceiling, i don't see any way to tell the viewer that the interior is cylindrical, so as long as it's not THAT important.. you have an establishing shot right? you'll be fine
>>

>use a big canvas
sure but then youre stuck using a ludicrously unnecessarily large pen all the time and having to zoom for precise pixel control. my OCD will not allow that. not yet. working on it. that's just a waste if the only real advantage is it lets you draw tiny things in the background sometimes.
>>
>>80817629
definitely wrong colors. too warm, too pink, too saturated.
>>80817659
that's more like it, but more for a log at night.
>>
>>80817629
have you tried reference? swamps have very muddy, dark and earthy colors with parts easily hidden in darkness and shadow since it's so cluttered
youre using colors that are too warm and light imo
your log is fine, but the greenery could be darker

>>80817704
youre maybe thinking too big, even 8 x 8 inch at 300 dpi is more than enough for the average webcomic page
also you only have to zoom in for details and even then shouldnt be too much as backgrounds lose information
>>
>>80818321
well i think my point is that... in order for background details to be legible, non-background details need to be much bigger than they need to be. And that's a tough sell to someone as lazy as me (who really enjoys how indistinct backgrounds are at a smaller size and how you can kinda Monet your way to quick completion with the illusion of detail)
but I know I need to use a bigger canvas anyway, and I'm woikin' on it.

For those of you with Manga Studio 5 and Clip Studio Paint, there's a new update available to download from the Clip Studio site.

In the interests of consolidating everything as Clip Studio Paint, MS5 users can use their current serial number to activate a new install of CSP, and it will find all your saved materials, brushes, etc.

You can now create animations in the new version. They've also improved the file optimisation; old MS files unfortunately suffered from getting bloated. However, files opened and saved with the latest version won't be able to be opened with an earlier version of the software.

Installed and tried it out briefly; while I'm seeing massive improvements in file sizes, converting all the old bloated MS5 .lip files to optimised CSP .clip files will be tedious and a half.

>>80810354
which commandment says that?

i'm a christian and i figured that i was showing appreciation by illustrating what's around me, the color purple style - a lot of christian artists only draw biblical stuff or overtly religious stuff but i never really "got" that.

the phrasing basically goes
>i'm a jealous god, no other gods before me

as for those guys' tendency, they were most likely following the good ol 'store up your treasures in heaven, for where your treasures are, there your heart is also' mantra. Good policy, but thinking you have to inject religiony things into everything is more a sign of WEAK faith than strong, if you ask me.

i might be misunderstanding but what i mean is you dont have to change the foreground to match the background
you just make sure the bg is more diluted, like pic related, the bg is really foggy and basic as fuck (lost information), but we still know what it is
basically work normally, just work less for background, in either case its worth a try
>>
>>80818707
Aaaand back on the subject of webcomics, that kinda goes for any issue you've got bubbling inside you, political, social, whatever. It's good to express yourself in your comic, but if you feel like EVERYTHING is a nail, maybe you've got hammers on the brain to an unhealthy extent.
>>
>>80818907
Sure absolutely. I just mean like, if you want books on a table in the background to have funny titles, but you really don't think it's worth devoting space to a close-up of that bookpile. Sometimes you feel like you wish you could just let people zoom if they felt like it, or ignore it if they don't
modern cartoons seem to work in a ludicrously high resolution, i suppose it's vectorized? so you can watch something that looks like in the old days it would have been drawn with 5-inch-high cels but the background actually has all these tiny zoomable details. and maybe the creators' blog even HAS those backgrounds in hi res and you can check them out in details unseeable on the show, yknow?
>>
>>80818982
ah
yeah text and the like need to be clarified and precise. i suppose your only other alternative is to change the way your easter eggs look into more perceptible things, like book covers instead of book titles, which is probably even better
>>
>>80819255
shit i hadnt thought of that. i'm gonna do that next time i do that. make it a book with a goatse on the cover or something.

i should also remember that shit drawn big and downscaled remains a lot more legible thanks to aliasing and shit, so if i'm ever like 'this is just a BIT too small to be readable' i can try writing it bigger and shrinking

Of course a racist won't; the poster unde rme put it quite perfectly: it IS people who are afraid of being called a racist who will go out of their way to prove they're not.
Truth is, most people in the modern Western world aren't racist, if they were then people whouldn't be so afraid of being singled out as one.
That's what I was sort of trying to get across when I said that people who are unapologetic about what they want in their comic (like shota), won't actually be met with much oposition for major "transgressions", unlike people who try to be on PC culture's good side will and for minor transgressions

>>80805479
That's actually prety impressive; I thought there were hardly any Europeans to begin with, let alone Asians and South Americans. Also the guy who draws Anterra I'm PRETY sure is from Latin America; I believe Mexico but I'm not sure.

I guess I will post this. Today is my proper day off, but I didn't spend my time working on this, I mostly working on my porn comic and playing video games.

Is there anybody who is holding down a full time job? Can someone give me some tips about keeping up drawing a comic? Does it just comes down to cutting out your other hobbies and treat it like a second job?

How do you structure your time and how do you keep yourself disciplined?

If you don't connect with an audience, how do you keep yourself from falling off the wagon? From getting depressed about the project? Do you just do your project for your own gratification? To be honest if that were truely the case, I'll probably be working a very different project and in my head not too much better than sonic chu...

>>

Hm, Its potentially one of my influences, but I only have a passing glance at that. I don't even own a PS4...

I wanted a Victorian feeling with that dude. Although now I look at bloodborne stuff more closely I am like, "goddammit". Its like back in the day I have a character name Ruby Sapphire and then Steven Universe happened.
>>
>>80836115
Sort of gives me a Dishonored/Court of Owls feel more than Bloodborne purely; not to mention my mind first went to niblewrights from D&D. If the costume isn't out of place within the universe, it isn't bad and I doubt it alone will draw comparisons.
>>
>>80836115
It's mostly the combination of that exact shade of grey victorian clothing with the anime daggers and the tricorner silhouette+mask.

Hm, potentially. I haven't decided on the motif of his character's faction yet. Typically Victorian is a motif associated with a different faction, but anyway.

making is work - don't work when you only feel "creative" or "inspired." constructing a comic is like building a house - there's lots of fun parts, parts that come easily, parts that are boring, difficult, etc. set time aside to complete a comic like it's homework. make goals and allot the amount of time you'd need to make them. if you finish your task early, no need to push yourself into more unless you're really "on." but, tl;dr, think of it more like a job than recreation. it will change how you approach your comic.

Stop viewing every drawing as a project you're going to present. Give yourself a space, a sketchbook or a binder, that is purely private. It isn't for anybody but you, drawing. That space should only be vaguely for improving, it should mostly be there to draw for drawing.

I'm doing it guys. I'm finally making my first webcomic. But I have some questions.

I'm going a Nuzlocke run of ORAS, and decided to make a comic about it, kinda like the original guy did (never read it, but I've heard about it). I also suck at art, so I'm going to start with a game sprite/MS paint format (gonna move on to GIMP eventually when I get the hang of it).

My question is, for these types of comics, such as the Final Fantasy one that's made with game sprites, where the heck can I find a set of game sprites all in the same resolutions and in different poses?

I'm gonna post it to a new Tumblr I made, with Pic Related as the avatar.

Hey, everyone! I've been out of commission since I've got the Division, but I'm trying to get back in the game.
I wanted to have at least the monthly crossover done, and this month's is possibly the longest one of them all. Can't seem to make it shorter than 4 pages.
Anyway, I'm not sure I shown the first one I did a while ago, so I'll start with that one.

Second page from that crossover thingie.
As for my current webcomic, I'm planning on wrapping up this chapter soon, and take down the Smackjeeves site.
There was no improvement at all of traffic or audience in the last three months, so I can firmly say the project is pretty much dead. I'll continue to do it on my own, at my own pace, while I look for something new to do.
I wanted Omega to be an afterthought and not this, but after almost five years, I can already tell this will go nowhere, so my current work will become the afterthought. Omega will be an experiment when it launches, so I will probably try to cook something new.

Thanks a bunch, I'll make sure to fix it by the time I do the colours.

I managed to do this after the last post. This is a character that appeared briefly at the beginning of the chapter, and is about to return. I wanted to practice her a bit more, and to re-work her design as well, since she was so flat coloured earlier. Also, I sort of wanted to make her a bit fit, but considering she's short, I'm not sure it suits her.
In any case, I like her a lot more now, so might as well leave her like this.
>>
>>80855821
that overhead view needs serious work.. actually a lot of these look like her face moves but her hair doesnt, and the profile view has the eye way too far back on the face, and too low. just keep an eye on that, your art's too good to let shit like that slide. like wayy too good.
>>
>>80855939
Can do, chief. Thanks for your feedback! I probably start from scratch, but I don't think I'll colour it.I'll use this chance for a black and white practice since we're here.

I put a bit more of effort on the details now, and it looks better.

Anons, do you have similiar experiences about teamwork? I've been co-writing a webcomic with a friend, who is the illustrator, for two years now. Now that we are beginning to be ready to start posting pages online, she doesn't seem motivated enough to keep drawing, and the project is stuck. I'm hoping she will return to the project once she gets her other stuff in order but I'm also secretly prepared to accept that we may have to quit. It's sad. I worked so hard. We had everything so well planned and it was so much fun. I'll try to find new motivation to write my own stuff now.
>>
>>80858584
Exact same thing happened to me. When I was in college, 19, I was going to do a comic with a friend since I had no idea how to draw. We would often go to each other's dorms and just work on it. Then updates became more erratic, and eevntually just dropped off. I wrote so much material, but in retrospect it was all garbage. Anyways, year after that I bought a tablet and taught myself to draw. That was 6 years ago, and definitely worth the effort. No one else can get as excited about your own stories as you can, and put in as much dedication to bringing them to life as you can.
>>
Okay, one more time with the right file.

Bump.
I don't know if this strip would read funnier if the girl on the right just kept the same deadpan expression throughout the whole thing.
Anyway, I don't have as much experience with strip-style comedy as I'd like, and there's probably a lot of ways I could make this funnier so suggestions welcome.

Also, I had a lot of complaints that my pages were too small, so I'm experimenting with that a bit. Is this page about the right height?

>the House Caucus on Supers

nicely done. you might want to think more about how chins look when heads are tilted up but god knows i suck at that.. sometimes her limbs are a little uneven, in one shot her eyes are uneven, but that's mild tweaky stuff. as for buffness i dunno but in the last picture her body looks kinda thick and her chest kinda high and small, a bit mannish. That kind of 'impression' is more important than the specific nitpicking I think
>>
>>80860192
you could stand to increase the size a little.
miss hemicircle-head's expression.. i'm not sure. deadpan is funny but right now she's playing straightman, so that means some reactions are in order. maybe something like genuinely sympathetic in the second, kinda incredulous / bored with a story that sounds exaggerated in the third, then squeamish-uncomfortable in the fourth

>>80844665
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try that soon.
>>
>>80866148
we need more catmen in general. why's it always a girl thing?
>>
>>80866006
Even bigger?????????!
What, something like this? Feels really big to me - my regular pages would barely fit on my screen like this (I guess I really am the only person who uses a 4x3 screen nowadays).

Speaking of miss Hemicircle, her skin tone doesn't really stand out all that much from everyone else, does it. I don't want to overdo it and make her look like she just emigrated to Asgard from the Sahara, but on the other hand I do want her to stick out like a sore thumb next to all the pale blonde people.
>>
>>80866866
i use a 4:3 screen! actually it's even squarer than that, by a few pixels.
but I mean, a vertical strip, i scroll. i want to scroll. i like my comics 900-1000 px wide. It's not like there's anything wrong with this though. I just think of width, and then length is irrelevant.

anyway, i feel like her hair should be brown. her skin can be whatever it is, but brown hair to the max. especially if it's wavy. at LEAST sandy-colored hair.

>>80864092
where do you hope to go?
sounds like dark humor, a common favorite, remember, no such thing as a bad idea, only bad excecutions
>>
>>80867016
Oh, okay.
Yeah this is supposed to be a half-page strip that can get printed two side by side on one page (and will probably display side by side on the site), so I want to keep the heights consistent with the full pages and the widths half of the full pages.

She does look a lot more obviously African with dark hair, but it would feel out of character to have her leave it brown when she could just dye or bleach it to fit in better (and I can't just ignore hair dye, it's gonna be a plot point in the main story eventually).
I think I'll just give her darker skin and say she took more after her mother when it came to skin tone.
>>
>>80790004

definitely the mouth, its too 2dimensional, mouths wrap around like a cylinder
maybe i can redline for them and others when i get back
>>
>>80867894
okay, one more suggest: medium-brown hair with sunbleached lighter bits
>>
>>80867996
well your TEETH do, your mouth doesnt necessarily. right now i'm practicing how the inner mouth can curve while the lips are doing something basically flat, and then you'll actually have a curve visible inside from some angles.

How much of a chance does some one have at making a web comic with no tools or drawing talent am being serious
>>
>>80868521
I've never met anybody with talent in drawing and I've never met anybody who needed it. Don't worry about it and just focus on learning to draw the way you want to.

Tools are kind of important, though. You can't make a webcomic without tools. If you have a computer, though, you have all the tools you'll need. Sure, you won't be able to make amazing digital painting without a tablet or something, and you'll need a scanner if you want to input line art for coloring, but just MS Paint (let alone any of the free programs available like Gimp or Krita) is fine for sprite art. There have even been people who've made successful comics just with photoshopped images.

I typically use Sai to paint and draw. However, I've heard the manga studio is better for comics.
Can someone tell me why that is? Is it just more built for the style of comics?

just my opinion but sai seems to be like, built around reinventing art tools. mangastudio just gives you an improved version of what photoshop has.

no such thing as talent, people are confusing that for advatages, because if sally had a pal that was like "dafuq is that hand bro?" shed be able to pick up her game faster and shit

also materials dont matter, its how you use it and how you use it depends on if you know yer shit

>>

Manga Studio has specialist tools focused on comics creation, for example panel borders and speechballoons, as well as being able to collect individual pages into a book and output everything ready to be printed.

talent is an advantage, and it is real. and it's pretty uneven. sucks but that's life. use the talents you have, build up the skills you can build.

You've got nice line weight and expressive faces, even if they're all a bit samey. Retard friend also seems to be a lot taller than Becky in the first panel she's in and her arm is super long.

Okay, serious question. How annoyed would you be if the first few pages of a comic were of the main character having a dream that doesn't directly relate to the plot of the issue?
I'm not planning to go "oh wait, you thought the main character died haha I trolled you it was just a dream that means nothing" and it'll be pretty obvious it's a dream. It's also very significant, but mostly in a symbolic way and not to the immediate plot (much of it won't make sense until the Big Reveal in the penultimate chapter).
>>
>>80875082
I just read a comic where the first few pages turned out to be a dream but then somehow they seemed to not be a dream again. or a tv show within the comic, or whatever. shit when did that happen? I wanna say it was a few hours ago. the thing that was a dream turned out to be way better than the real life of the comic's setting.
anyway just make sure theyre all uploaded in one go so readers find out quickly
>>
>>80823995
whyyy is this comic not done yet
why cant i think of anything for panel 4. i used to limit myself to 4 panels and i thought of TONS of shit to fill backgrounds with.
>>
>>80875372
Actually one of the impossible parts of the dream will turn out to be completely real and still right there when he wakes up.
I can't very well upload all the pages at once, but it's pretty obviously a dream before any of the really heavy hitting stuff happens, so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Oh don't worry that is supposed to happen. Just a detail that I thought'd be nice. I hope that isn't too confusing
>>
>>80865956
>you might want to think more about how chins look when heads are tilted up
I tried to gave them the right details, like the line of the jaw, but I don't like how it looks. Still, I should to find a way to make it look like I didn't just rotated the face. That's what's practice for.
> in one shot her eyes are uneven
This may be me, but I don't see it. I still have to settle for something. Her eyes were meant to be originally going for a seductive look, and now it looks like there's invisible chalk dust around her, so I do need to re-work her eyes.
> as for buffness i dunno but in the last picture her body looks kinda thick and her chest kinda high and small, a bit mannish. That kind of 'impression' is more important than the specific nitpicking I think
I see what you mean, I'll be drawing her body more often now that she will come back in the comic, and while it's a character only meant for this chapter, I'm not sure dedicating this much work is something worth investing my time. I mean, I know it's useful in the bigger picture, but I dunno. Then again, considering I may shut down this comic soon, anything I do for it it's kind of wasted effort, but I'd like to end it in a high note if possible.

Today, I'll be doing a few character designs for my possible next work. It's an old work of mine being revived, so I will be trying to adapt the original designs to what I do now, we'll see where it goes. I'll try to post some pics later if I can.

The art in this one is so top notch, but as this guy said >>80889513 the word balloons are an issue.

I'd actually go a step further and say that I am certain that this comic, considering that this is kind of a consistent issue, is a prime example of one where the placement of the text is an afterthought.

It needs to be integrated more with the art. It is easy to see that the pages are being made, and then the artist is trying to figure out where to put the dialogue without compromising the art. It makes the text, balloons, and placement seem really cramped and poorly placed.

they really freakin' are, aren't they? I wonder if it's the pokemon influence. or the fact that I only have so much 'material' for a character so if theyre around constantly then I run out and just have them stand around being boring. I can't remember the last time Sasha did anything funny like sniff someone's butt. I keep writing down "have Sasha sniff people, it's funny" but it never happens.
>>80885527
i rock at being persistent and having no life at least! yay!
>>
>>80889088
well actually proportions have changed quite a bit over time, but the last few years have been a real focus on keeping them consistent, paying attention to perspective more, and overall tightening things up.. i feel a lot more anxious while drawing than I used to. aaand that is probably why I keep defaulting to the same damn poses. I have noticed that. actually the name of the game is 'composition' since entering these threads. I've tried actually thinking about it instead of having people illogically talk to each other while, say, standing in a way that isnt facing each other.. or running while standing up perfectly straight instead of leaning, or shit like that. and the result is now everything seems really locked-down. I keep getting stuck in 3/4ths view all the time.
I take a look back at the old days and it was CONSTANTLY either frontview or profile, all the time, and the only perspective being a horizontal line for the ground. I even make jokes about how they either walked atop the grass or it 'cut up' their feet, depending which I drew first. Some of that was imitating spritecomics, i liked everyone in the party just being lined up like in a vidyagame.

it's okay though, comedy and story and cool fights are the focus right now. and i'm always getting slightly better over time. next iteration of the comic is going to have a lot more serious work put into making it look like less of a hobbyhorse. This one's nearly over.. I think.

so yall told me tumblr is the best place for an interactive comic
so here's a shitty design layout i was thinking of having
the backgrund of posts would match the site bg to be more immersive

>shitty
>shitty
I know you're trying to be humble, but the words you choose seeps into a deeper part of you than you realize. Putting yourself down like this, even in little bits, is like eroding a part of you when you could be building it up.

There are so many words you can choose.
>basic
>beginner's attempt

It's just depressing to see this attitude because you are not the only one who does that here.
>>
>>80904407
or maybe it's just jocular sardonism
>>
>>80797601
I'm going to print this and paste it on my wall
>>
>>80905474
i-i'm just lonely and miss having online people who care about me and would notice if i was gone.
>>
>>80797579
>4 fucking days ago
dead thread, post some comics you cunts
>>
Do you guys think a webcomic could work if it was almost entirely in profile view?
>>
>>80892463
is this fetish porn
>>
>>80905673
no
>>
>>80905673
learn to draw you lazy fuck
>>
>>80905699
sure
>>
>>80905775
Calm down, bucko. I didn't know this was so triggering for you.
>>
>>80905775
>learn to draw
>for a webcomic
Are you being seriously right now?
>>
>>80905828
>>80905899
You're right, my bad. That sounds great man, when you get that side profile only comic going post it here so we can all enjoy it.
>>
>>80905668
eh, i like it when threads last a while. but this one's pretty close to dead, so I hope preparations are being made
>>
>>80906235
http://www.qwantz.com/index.php
but I'm sure copy pasting the exact same clip art is much harder.
>>
>>80904407
though youre probably right
its was more what >>80904541 said
it was a fast, low effort visualization

>>80905673
as a parody or "so bad its good" maybe
>>
>>80906306
But that comic is shit. It's not a very good example.
>>
>>80905673
shit dude the ancient egyptians did webcomics like that millennia ago. you know how many hits they got?
>>
>>80906326
As opposed to what?

Dinosaur comics is a thousand times better and more successful than anything that has been posted on these shitty little threads since /co/ was accidentally birthed out of moot's womb.
>>
>>80906306
honest question what is the appeal of dinosaur comics?
>>
>>80906494
its age and persistance
>>
>>80906494
Mid 2000s quirkiness.
>>
>>80906235
Look, it was a simple question. Why are you acting like some pissy little brat that just got told he couldn't have his lucky charms?
>>
>>80906799
I just said it's fine you retard. Post it here when you're done, it'll be graet.
>>
>>80906799
>>80906944
pls no drama
>>
What's a good tutorial with writing scripts or screenplays for webcomics?
>>
>>80908052
Tutorials are unnecessary. I just read a script that someone wrote for a comic that was posted here on /co/ and copied that style, and over the last few years I've made slight adjustments. My artist has no problems interpreting it properly.
>>
>>80886802

wow i cant believe this thread is still alive, here is a super early sneak preview of the next page of DEMON JUICE im going to post a more finished version in the next thread
>>
>>80908052
its very simple to learn. I'd recommend using celtix to write it as it does most of the formatting for you.
As far as tutorials, there are many scripts that you can pull up with a quick google search that you can use as a template
>>
would web comics with front only profiles work?

Startin' a new story arc. Izzy gets challenged to a game jam.

the left breast is a little flat compared to the right, since her arms are coming together in front of her considering their size it be up againt each other

like the bg, you overlay a textur to em?
>>
>>80915282
Good point. And yeah, I overlay a texture over all the comics. I feel like it compensates for simple/no backgrounds.
>>
Are there any cape webcomics? Like, is there a market for that sort of thing or is it usually left to real life comics?
>>
when is everyone usually working on their shit?
that way we can make these threads on those days
>>
>>80915632
there are, im shit with names but off the top of my head
there's 2 mahou shoujo capes
an urban kiddo cape
a gay cape
and they're quite popular too
>>
>>80917147
should always be working
>>
>>80917147
Who's not working?
>>
>>80917289
b-but i have classes
>>
>>80917736

What's the best place to put your webcomic?
How about Smackjeeves?
>>
>>80906799
it's difficult sometimes to answer questions as if they were asked genuinely, since so few are. that's why i always do. i take statements at absolute face value to force people to take responsibility for what they said. That or assume it was a well-meaning joke. Whatever's positive, i try to assume it.
>>80908052
whatever's useful for you. no point in something you have to actually study and learn, and then learn how to read. scripts are the one thing only YOU have to read.
>>80912864
I fucking love the way you write character 'voices'
>>80915325
I wonder if I should do that. It really does work. but I worry textures won't downscale well.
>>80915632
THis is just me talking, but I think you have to do something a little unusual. I always bring up Zukahnaut because I feel like it's the best modern example of a cape webcomic that doesn't seem like one, but absolutely utterly is.
>>80917147
we're fine, slow threads are good. That said, if we ever wanted to start scheduling, it wouldnt be a terribad idea to go with friday and monday. that way the threads have a lead-in and a lead-out. the middle of the week is the usual lull, or at least it's easy to go and say 'what have i done this week? i'll catch up the thread'
>>80918408
i've heard bad things, but i can't think of them offhand. drunkduck is fine aside from having to register to comment or view NSFW. comicfury I think is okay.
>>
>>80917736
What, you've never sketched out an idea during class?
>>
>>80918771
shit i did a lot of my old paperdrawn comic in school. it led to a few inconsistencies because i didnt have my big box of papers to compare to, nor my scanned files.. but i felt good about how easily and quickly i could hammer one out in my spare time.
>>
new thread when? i want to see the newest page of demon juice bones said he would post
>>
>>80918771
most of my classes are hands on so we're busy the whole time
i try to save my personal stuff for the weekend anyways

If you don't mind then I'd appreciate a redline, yes

Although. if it makes a difference, she is supposed to be forcing a smile. That pic looks like a more natural one
