2d animation was too choppy for my taste, script was about 7/10, girl felt forced for girl power purposes but at the end they managed her pretty well

The version I saw looked like it got out of synch towards the end but maybe that was just me.
It probably didn't look right because the lip movement was made for the French dub.

So I just saw this and it was actually a quite enjoyable little movie. The story was not too special and rather typical, you could see where everything was going for a mile, but where it really managed to shine was the characters and worldbuilding.
Usually I'm not much of a sucker for elemental themes but they managed to make some interesting things with it and I like the world design much more than, for example, in Inside Out.
The characters were also all adorable (except for the ugly Minions-like moon spiders) and had all sympathetic motives even douchey Sohon. Only exception might be the villain, who is a typcial flat cartoon villain who's redemption comes just way too easy. Seriously, first Necros wants to have the sun all for himself and then when he gets it... he just lets it die? What was that all about? I get that he was rather mad, but that doesn't make much sense in connection to his stated motivation.

One thing I wonder about are those weird snakes things. At first I thought they were just a metaphor but then it turns out that they are real inside the setting itself, so what are they? Are they a natural part of the fantastic ecosystem? Also where exactly was the place they entered after going through the Blue Hole but before reaching the abyss?

And yes, the 2D animation could have been smoother. I liked it alright for the flashbacks but when they entered the dream world it should have been more fluid.

It actually didn't feel that way to me. She was much more sufferable and sympathetic than for example Merida or Maria Posada. It helped that her rather confined living conditions would irritate anyone and she had believable weaknesses and strengths based on it. It wasn't a situation where she was just like "oh also I learned karate" or anything like that.

I love watching CGI movies made by other countries, even if they turn out to be a bit rubbish.
I think it's the novelty of seeing an artistic vision that's different from the omnipresent Dreamworks/Disney combo. Things like The Nut Job or Happily N'Ever After or Rango

some of the side characters were cool but some were kind of annoying. also i felt like they shoe horned in a villain when the story should have been about the journey. you could remove the villain entirely and story would still make sense. animation was ok for the most part and nutsy was a total qt

As seen with Phospho and Leeyoon a guardian of the moon doesn't need to be the same kind of plant species as that guy. It could be that just a whole lot of his kind had been guardians in the past or that his species just regularly goes up there to transform.

Also the way the two old guardians treated the matter it gave me the impression as if they had been going through quite a similiar development. So maybe they just had hoped that everyhing would work out on its own.
