why do so many /co/mrades want to work in animation when visual development is so much more interesting?
>>
Maybe they enjoy doing menial labor?

I'd love to do character designs, but I have no idea how to break into the industry. I'm in the middle of bumfuck nowhere Europe and can't afford to move.
>>
>so many /co/mrades want to work in animation

I can't remember a single post declaring that.

I've seen many threads in the style of "someone here working in the animation industry?" "are you in animation school?" CALARTS etc.

Because there are fewer positions for vis dev

and most animation has been outsourced to south korea, so what
>>
If you don't want to learn how to animate, you shouldn't be allowed in the industry at all.

Because you get to design your character than actually watch them move around and it's pretty cool.

"Bringing them to life" is a really special feeling, especially when you do lip sync.

animation student, I totally agree with this.

A lot of people on my course much prefer designing the characters whereas I'm much more interested in the movement itself. It's such a satisfying pay-off after hours of work.

Who's the artist?

Fabian Mense
>>
I would have thought visual development for animation comes under the umbrella of "working in animation"
>>

Most viz dev artists are illustrators who can do an assortment of work and work across mediums (Magazines, live action, commercial design) whereas animators are only for animation/special effects. If every animation studio went under, the viz dev artist could still get work. The animator could not.
