It's pretty shit, m8. Like even on a design and animation level, it's choppy and cheap looking at best. Which is sad since while the original wasn't revolutionary, it was at least nice to look at even from a still to still way.

This one person's remake while isn't completely true to the original's design aesthetic keeps the important stuff like iconic design motifs like the thick outlines and sharp corners while throwing in a bit of their own art style to keep it fresh. It actually looks like what a PPG reboot should look like if not going for a completely new style like that one short while not looking like Clarence rejects like the official stuff.

there's obvious issues with it, like the animation character design and the voice acting so there are legitimate reasons for people to be hating on it

The new art style is lazy and unappealing, so just to be clear, I'm not defending it. However:

If you're an individual with complete control over the end product AND you're spending a whole month on just 50 seconds, of course it's going to look better than 50 seconds of animation done by a studio with a pipeline structure, a budget to fit within, and strict deadlines to meet.
No excuse for the studio putting little effort into the art style and writing, but let's at least make a fair comparison here.
