I haven't seen one of these in a while, so have it.
I'm waiting on Copra Round 3 to come in, then Grayson, and then in February Kaijumax and a bunch of DCYou vol 1s (Prez, Midnighter, Martian Manhunter)
Rec me if you want
These came in today. The Venom minicomics are pretty cool. I like Zacchilli's art. Very raw. It came with some stickers and a postcard as well. The Shaolin Cowboy book was crazy. I've never seen so much zombie dick and vag. Die Wergelder is another book that I cannot lend out to people.
Don't feel like taking a picture
Suicide Squad vol 2 Nightshade Odyssey
Thor by Walter Simonson vol 1
Mighty Thor by Lee/Kirby omnibus 2
Hellboy Library Edition 5 Darkness Class/Wild Hunt
Bought the Thor omnibus from a second part on Amazon, I was happy that it was the Kirby variant cover and not the standard one
got this little guy yesterday. hopefully he keeps my chog problem under control.
yeah he's a cute bugger.
eh what DAMMIT POYO YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO KEEP THE CHOGS UNDER CONTROL
the two books to the right are for my detective fiction class
the one on the left is for american lit 1945 - present
the deluxe edition of nightly news is pr dank
Haven't bought anything since around Christmas. I've got a list of books to pick up though.
1. Sandman Omnibus book 2
2. Absolute Death
3. Black Science Premiere HC
4. Complete Crepax
5. Sky Doll: Decade
6. Sky Doll: Spaceship
I wonder if Kodansha would be ballsy enough to put out Samura's BDSM art book if Die Wergelder does well enough.
I probably wouldn't buy it but it would be interesting to see the reaction of that art book being released in North America.
its the only one i'm interested in for the class
the rest of the reading list is fun home (one of those indie autobio comics about being a lesbian), twilight los angeles 1992, and the two to kill a mockingbird books. I consider myself to be pretty progressive but teacher is literally white guilt 40 year old sjw trying to entrench herself into black culture and it really shows in her reading list
They'd have to have balls the size of planets to publish that. I probably wouldn't buy it either. Samura's art is gorgeous, but I like my sadism with a side of plot like Bradherley's Coach next.
received a gift card to Target as a Christmas bonus from work. i usually don't shop there, but found this on sale.
Anons, I got 500 buckaroos burning a hole in my ass. What should I buy based on what I own so far? Besides volume 3 of New X-Men of course.
East of West deluxe
The complete little Nemo
Anything off this list
hellboy library edition they are going out of print so now would be a great time to jump on them or take a look at my shelf see anything you like
My shelves have one fixed shelf that can't be moved. And with how tall me Image deluxe comics are, I can't fit them on my shelves. I looked at the billy shelves but it would cost me $400 to ship to me.
I'm having a crisis /co/mrades.
Digital or physical.
I already have a shelf full of trades but some storylines I want to read aren't available in physical or cost an arm and a leg. also I like reading comics in bed while my gf is asleep but I have a lot of physical pride too and I'm worried what will happen if amazon/comixology goes under,
I haven't bought any trades in while but just my monthly single issue pulls:
The Walking Dead #150 blank variant
The Walking Dead #150 Tony Moore variant
The Walking Dead #150 standard cover
I got this sweet death statue for Christmas
Sorry if their blurry or dark my phone is running out of battery
This one will have to be dark since flash just died
And to round it up my small manga shelf
What's the paper quality like in those white Marvel NOW hardcovers? Is it super thin? Or thicker than single issues? How is the binding? Glued or sewn? I've never looked inside them, but am thinking of picking up Aaron's Thor Vol 1 and Fraction's Hawkeye Vol. 1.
How would you rate Lazarus as a series out of ten? How would you rate that hardcover edition. I love Rucka most of the time. I liked the first issue, but didn't keep up with it. Should I pick it up collected?
And can you sell me on Seeley's Revivial series? My interest is piqued, but am not sure if I should make the investment.
it's the same paper in the TPBs, I believe (so yes, thicker than singles) and it's sewn. At least that's what I remember on my Superior Spider-man HCs [which, admittedly, I don't ave with me right now]
Just bought this, it's the Brazilian print of From Hell by Alan Moore. It's going to take at least 1 week to get here but i'm pretty excited.
currently reading x-force 1
these are my main shelves
anything i should pick up?
was wanting to dive into judge dredd somehwere
>tfw my birthday is this weekend and I'm spending it reading through my post-christmas pickups
Freaks Squeele #1 in the mail, supposed to arrive monday
Actually I have Noel on order as well, no idea when it's supposed to arrive. Honestly I'm finding the series kind of meh, I don't have a colossal hardon for steampunk like some people do and the art feels very digital-webcomic tier. If the whole thing was in a bold monochromatic style like the covers are I'd probably love it.
But to answer your question I haven't so I can't really say
You actually kind of did. Talbot has done work over a number of styles, and I was wondering whether this was less genre oriented than something like Luther Arkwright. His famous book is that one about getting molested as a child or something; as "artistic" as that may be, I don't really go for things like that. So thanks, I guess.
My first comics ever actually. I'm loving Pete in this Universe. As a newcomer with limited knowledge of past comic stuff, I love what I've seen from ANADU
>As a newcomer with limited knowledge of past comic stuff, I love what I've seen from ANADU
That's understandable, you cant tell the difference between good comics and bad comics yet.
I'm so sorry anon.
Honestly, it's on the better end of Slott's work, and I started with Spidey when I first tried getting into comics. That was just before OMD, and it killed all interest in the hobby for a number of years.
Either way, Marvel is good for starting out, on the single fact that they use recap pages. DC's a bit uneasy to recommend for beginners, as Nu52 the concept of the Multiverse take some getting used to. Just avoid Bendis and Hopeless, and I'm sure you'll be fine.
Updated shelf pictures
I'm jealous of all the art books. I only have a couple right now. I should really buy them more often.
I like the world built off the relative limited knowledge of it that I have (mainly from browsing here). Still haven't gotten my head wrapped around whatever the hell happened with Doc Oc
Vision is good. I'm going to get the next two issues today. Then hopefully into Ms. Marvel or SamCap
Good decision. Spock is varied in quality, but good choice in what you're looking into. Ms. Marvel starts up before SW, so that's where you should head. There's a HC of the first 2 volumes out if interested. Also try Spencer's Ant-Man and Superior Foes of Spider-man (the latter is getting an Omnibus next month.)
Also recc Deadpool (Don't read Daniel Way. The Gerry Duggan run is how I got back into comics) and
Superman: American Alien(ignore the shitposter, it's an interesting take on Superman mythos)
I hate linking BC here but I don't have the time atm to break down all the info in seperate posts
Not sure how much of this is new information but seemed like the kind of thing you guys would be interested in.
I've seen variations of it posted over the years, and it's always been more art focused than writing. There are other works on it that aren't all that special in the writing department.
Thanks! That explains the sale on Omnibuses Cheap-Comics.com is having (great IST like site for EU anons).
Already got Avengers and Untold Tales earlier, but I've been eyeing that Roger Stern omni for quite a while might just grab that too later this month.
How have people on /co/ of all places not heard of that before?
It's like yesterday with that Norm of the North thread with the old bug copypasta pics everyone was freaking out over, you guys are so far behind the curve here
I haven't done this in a while or taken new pictures and I do find sorting and organizing comics very relaxing so I did just that.
Sadly the Camera I usually use Battery died so these are only iPhone camera quality.
Shelves First and then single issues in my still not full single LongBox of mostly small press stuff.
I don't like dust jackets which is why some of the books will look weird, the black books on this shelf are the parts of Morrison Batman I held onto.
These are going to arrive hopefully by Wednesday.
Did I do good?
I like 3/5s of the comics on that image.
I think that's always been a thing, advanced search is broken since forever so only the basic search works. Your problem might be because of the language you used, I clicked the English button and that versions frontpage is simply not working.
Dutch works fine and as far as I know German does too.
Most of these books are not in the longbox strickly due to size reasons.
Now for the rest of the loose comics. This image is Marra, Deforge and RCS
Rarity, Cost, What we like the most?
This one is Image Comics (it is cool buying them in singles because it is easy to see when a series lost me)
That one is small press stuff
Eclipse, Viz and some random stuff
Then I guess for me it would be
The Airtight Garage
Lone Wolf & Cub
(A million things to fit into this 10th spot depending on mood)
When is Johnny Ryan going to release another Prison Pit book?
Mirin these. I have only just gotten into small press stuff. I'm very jealous of those Zegas issues. Hopefully Fiffe reprints them at some point.
Picked up Kingdom Gone and Return To Big Nothing today so the Frank collection is coming along nicely
Decided to move my deluxe Image collection back into the slip covers. Had to move the shelf because they are so tall.
For actually quality
1. Chew Smorgasbord Edition Volume 1
2. Chew Smorgasbord Edition Volume 2
3. Empowered Deluxe Edition Volume 1
4. Girls Deluxe Edition Hardcover
5. iZombie Omnibus
6. Saga Deluxe Edition Volume 1
7. The Sandman Omnibus Volume 1
8. Big Hard Sex Criminals
9. Waywayrd Deluxe Edition Volume 1
10. Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse: The First Few Pints
For 40% off? Hell yeah. The Absolutes are a little better quality but will cost you more in the long run. I'm getting my volume 2 tomorrow most likely. Just in time because I am almost finished with volume 1.
2 oversized omnibus volumes. Nice quality with little to no gutter loss. Haven't acutally read the Absolute versions but there are 5 volumes for almost the same price. They are taller but have fewer pages.
check IST they no longer have a couple volumes and other online places have started to raise there prices thats a big sign saying going out of print soon >>79031666
thanks anon they are fantastic >>79031595
recently reread it love that dam art and also the godam batman
flip them anon they look more delicues when they are showing that sexy silver >>79042424
dam anon you live in the desert ps you will fuck up your spines like that stand them up and yes get into dredd its amazing hands down one of my fav series next to hellboy
How did I do for a first timer?
>All Star Superman (Paperback)
>The Colossal Conan (Hardcover)
>DC: The New Frontier (Deluxe Hardcover)
>JLA 1-4 (Deluxe Softcover)
>The Multiversity (Deluxe Hardcover)
I'd say pretty good.
My brother gave me some starmans I'll have to get a picture of later but these are still most recent
Thanks! I was wondering about the extras!
As for the art, I loved Quitely's on Batman & Robin, as well as Philip Tan's, even though everyone else seems to dislike his style. Flamingo was a favorite character of mine from the second B&R arc with Red Hood.
Then in Incorporated, Paquette had some impressive work.
This reminds me: when DC announced Absolute Preacher, I wondered why everyone on various baords said they were excited for that.
Preacher is my favorite Vertigo title ever and I truly appreciate Dillon's art, but getting this in Absolute format? Doesn't make sense to me. Especially since I agree with you about Absolutes and getting them for the art.
This makes the costume look pretty nice
And then i have,
Hellboy library 4 & 5
Witch Doctor 1 in the mail. Super pumped for Hellboys to come in
Yeah i have visionary 1, 2, 3, 6, & 7. Five in like at least $50 on amazon so I'm going hunting next week at all the shops around. 8 Should be easy
I believe pic related continues David's run
***never read chew but have always wanted to.
I'm kind of that DELUXE/OMNIBUS snob but sometimes editions arnt worth it.
Like how's the extra stuff and binding of smorgasbord?
Added Flex Mentallo and Superman adventures. I'm reading the JSA Omnibus one right now , so far it's good.
>starting with Slott
It's OK, I made the same mistake. Do yourself a favor and pick up Kraven's last hunt and grim hunt.
Bought the first volume of Showa and loved it so much I picked up the other three as soon as I could. Grendel was great too. Spider-Man was disappointing.
Bought these in my last to Buenos Aires.
I've been wanting to get into Corto Maltes for years, and this collection seems perfect for it. I'll buy the others if I like it. There were like 10 numbers in the bookstore.
Also bought the second part of Perramus. The 1st one was very nice.
And Etchenike, which turned out to be a comic-version of an already existing detective novel, but I didn't enjoy it much.
yeah, because it probably won't get reprinted in another form he was upset that they shoved them all in the back when they follow up on the issue they were in so people won't read as he intended it to be read
I really want the collected Multiversity but its a bit more than i wanna spend
I imagine you might be better off with some local store if you're from britain, or even amazon. The pound/euro rates buttfuck me personally. With USD at least it's nearly 1:1. Anyway, this dutch site seems to solve my problems.
You americans don't appreciate how easy you got it.
I found Dylan Dog 2-6 Dark Horse editions at a used bookstore today, they're in a very tiny format. Is it worth it or should I wait for the new ones that are apparently coming?
Thanks. What are you reading these days? Gotham By Midnight ended and now I'm sad
Smorgasbord is much higher quality but I started with the Omnivore editions so I know they are great also. Chew is my favorite series so I am dedicated. For me it was the fact that I would only need 3 Smorgasbord editions versus 6 omnivore editions.
I meant the quality of the book itself and not the story. Girls deluxe edition is one of the nicest books I have ever owned.
So here is my newest purchases. I just got the last Sandman Omnibus today. Later this week I will get Death Absolute. And then in February is Black Science Premiere Edition and Sky Doll: Decade.
>So for collected stuff in reading though
So my part time job is at my lcs Wendsday. That being said I read a few books just to sell/talk about with customers.
I'll list those first
Wolverine (y clones)
Spider Man and Deadpool
>things i follow no matter what
Slash & Burn
Goddamned (for now)
Batman and Tmnt
Swamp Thing (not quite what i wanted but it's just a sixmini)
Hulk (dat cho)
I'm sure I'm forgetting something
Everyone at the shop reads Insexcts. It's the only Aftershock book we have to reorder. Weird stuff.
I like to spread out my reading to a little of everything. Don't know if you're missing out if you don't try it!
Shield is a waaayyyy old character some people consider the original idea for Captain America. Guy wore a big ass shield on hours chest, kinda goofy.
New shield is the first girl shield appears invulnerable and immortal. Goes back to line 1776 with her. Seems interesting so far.
Black Hood is CRAZY.
Dark book about a cop gets his face blasted and gets on pills and starts beating up criminals on pills for pills.
Real sad violent guy. Used to be a hero on the police force.
Dreaming Eagles is a young guy who is almost pro black panther in his thinking, almost (1966 civil rights era) and wants to march with mlk.
His father appears to be one of the first African American ww2 fighter pilots and flashbacks to being in the war. Wants to protect his son and doesn't seem to agree with too aggressive civil rights movement (what he determines to be dangerous to his family)
Black hood and Shield are Dark Circle and Dreaming Eagles is Aftershock
Good stuff man i think you'll like it
Always glad to share awesome books.
Small preview incoming. ..
just get online i just started going to a other one when the one i went to told me not to bring my friend or anyone along unless they are going to buy something motherfucker i had just bought 70 bucks worth of stuff and he was getting pissy because my friend didnt get anything i mean i would understand if she was making a bitchy or being loud but she was dead silent the entire time
You should post more often man you have some really good stuff and seem to still be buying stuff.
What's your favorites in your collection?
The Hellboy LEs
The Amazing Spider-Man Masterwork (signed by Lee in San Diego last year at meet & greet)
Beat up Dark Knight Returns 1st edition I bought when I was 8 and didn't know shit
Not great editions, but I keep re-reading Azumanga Daioh, Annihilation (out on loan), Bone one volume ed., Gotham Central, old Hellblazer editions, Sandman, old ass X-Men til around Fatal Attractions.
I lirk these and update when I've bought more than onesie-twosies. Last posted round Christmas?
Two different beasts. Comic does a little more, but feels slower. I prefer the anime, but a lot of that might be my dipshit babysitter made me watch it back in 91 when I was like 6.
Got a bunch for Xmas and ordered a few books from amazon.ca, it sucks we dont have many options for online ordering but at least amazon has a decent discount on most stuff, and all my books arrived just fine, no damage or anything.
New stuff is
Simonson Thor v1 and 2
GotG v1 and 2
Man without fear
Batman: Doom that came to gotham
that's beyond fucked up. i would have laid into that guy about how shitty his dying business must be to throw all customer service out the window in a desperate and angry attempt to coerce people into buying his merchandise. i'd ask for a refund too but i doubt it would happen.
this is just another example of why i have no sympathy for comic book shops going out of business. run correctly this never happens.
2/2 here's my shelf I'm keeping at college for now. I got BPRD Plague of Frogs 1-4 in paperback coming in the mail, so that'll be fun.
Hey /co/, remember me? The newbie? Well, I took all of your wonderful advice...
Reading since 1992, collecting trades since 2002, give or take. Thanks for the props, it really is just a matter of slowly but surely buying each book, and before you know it they start looking like a library. Re-read Sandman last week and probably gonna crack open Stray Bullets tomorrow during the holiday.
I've been reading for the same time period as you. Collecting trades since 97 maybe. I own Sandman series in trades. Gonna have to re-read it like you. Jealous that you have. Finding the time is difficult.
It's a really good book, physically and content-wise and it's pretty important historically for the medium, especially western comics. I'd say it's a must-have even though some bits of it are wooden with the primitive storytelling style.
Got these from my dad a couple weeks ago. He sent them to me from New Zealand. It's feels like a farm version of Garfield, but with the charm of Calvin & Hobbes.
Reading up on the series, there's 27 volumes, and he snagged the first 12 + volume 15. It's out of print and hard to find.
I've always wanted to post in one of these threads. This photo is actually from January last year, but little has changed besides the addition of a new Jason book and the size of the zine pile on top of my floppies. Apologies for the occasional cookbooks and art books.
Speaking of going out of print, I saw this on BC:
Does anyone know any retailer that actually cuts the prices on these things?
Mmmaybe if Half Price Books gets their hands on these...
Over the holidays I saw a bunch of DC books for 50% off and higher. I think they went through the same warehouse emptying process Marvel seems to be going through.
Otherwise? I don't have any LCS in my area that would cut the costs.
Slowly making my way through the Udon artbooks I got from IST. Okami and Breath of Fire are pretty good. That Art of HC is damn thick and for some reason I thought there would be less Street Fighter but nope it's over half the book. Now I gotta flip through Y's.
Where did the new that the Hellboy LE are going out of print? I've been waiting for an IST sale and for some money to come my way.
I really liked these, 2015 was a strange year I found.
And Here by Richard McGuire but that was only because I only got to that Dec 2014 release early this year.
the artwork on providence looks really inviting, gonna check it out
after reading big man plans i think im gonna download some goon and read it
The girlfriend got me this comic called Saltire for Christmas, its about a Scottish immortal during pivotal moments of Scotland's history. It's not bad actually. My favorite book last year was Archie vs. Predator, I also loved Multiversity, but I didn't read a lot of new comics last year, I did read a lot of older ones though.
Can we get a top 10 of Kirby's oeuvre? Admittedly, I am a Kirby newb, but want to read the King's best.
How would everyone rank his works? I want to try to get my hands on the top 10 books.
The good bits of Fantastic Four
New Gods (the book named New Gods not all the books)
2001: A Space Odyssey
Those are the ones I like.
I have the first issue somewhere and I think a few other issues. I always wanted to own the full set plus the maxi that followed a few years later. Kirby's art is some of my favorite. I found out about the omnibus after both it and the trades went OOP. It's my white whale. Seeing someone finally have it is great, actually.
I had a chance to buy Kamandi once. Passed on it. Regretted doing so ever since. Might get lucky and run across it again. If I do, I will not make that mistake again.
Kamandi is the only comic where the Watergate Tapes are weaponized
Wow, well, I'm sold. I must own that book!
I'm asking family members to pitch in and buy me the Fourth World HC 4 and Kamandi HC 1. That shit would be so sweet! Come March, if it happens, I will be happily posting pics of the full collection. I so rarely post.
Honestly, as muuch as I loved discovering Tom King in 2015 (Vision and Omega Men are each the best book by their respective company), I gotta say Transformers vs GI Joe rocked my world. I'm not a fan at all of either property, but damn if that isn't the most comic booky comic book that's being made right now. The layouts, the art, the visual shorthand, everything. It's just a fantastic example of why comics aren't visual novels, or cartoon storyboards, and at their best are essentially untranslatable into any other medium. I know, no one is more shocked to be saying that abot goddamn Transformers vs GI Joe than me.
I don't know how easy all the parts of it are to get right now but
>Toronto-based zine and printmaker Michael Comeau’s Hellberta sees Canadian comics icon Wolverine return to his homeland of Alberta to face his greatest foe: Prime Minister Stephen Harper! Weapon X is recast as a messianic mutant out to revenge the destruction and ravaging of his home and native land.
It is pretty great
Zine's and other small independent stuff isnt really my bag but i've always wondered, how do they get around copyright stuff? someone else posted a pic with what looked like a home made Venom book as well... is it all just so small time that Marvel and the Mouse give no shits?
It would cost more money to sue the hipster that draws that shit then the money they would extract out of him for winning a copyright lawsuit, I'd guess.
It arrived! Just in time for it to be a day late for my birthday...
Also I went ahead and ordered the first couple of Usagi's Dark Horse compilations. Just got through the Dragon Bellow conspiracy, I'm loving the shit out of this.
'that shit' happens to look better than most books that come out.
But you are probably right about their reasoning, also you win no favors from fans for doing shit like clamping down on that stuff. They wouldn't really care until it became something like the doujin market in Japan.
Yeah I recently got the second Thor omnibus for cheap and holy shit is the inking terrible, the guy was pretty much employed for speed alone and would erase details in Jack's pencils if he felt he didn't have time
It's a shame because the comics are really entertaining otherwise
You probably ended up spending close to $40-50 more on those than you would have 6 months ago. I'm trying to find somewhere online that I can get books for at least 30-37% off here
