Whatever is up with Adam will probably wait for another time when focus rolls back to Blake again. Blake got a lot out of the end of Vol 1 and in Vol 2 so she'll either come back into focus for the end of this one or next volume.

In a sense, the show suffers a little because objectively, Cinder is almost too good an antagonist (as a block or threat to our protagonists). She's got a decent evil plan and keeps it moving forward even if the heroes chip at it - but it means she has a lot of momentum which keeps the central world plot moving, at the cost of development time for characters not following that momentum.

Adam is important to Blake's personal arc, possibly important for Weiss, but Cinder has deliberately made him and the White Fang a small cog in her big machine.

so Emerald was at the stadium in hiding, and singled out Ruby as a target so that she'd get suspicious, but Emerald wasn't actually sitting there? I guess that makes sense, but they still haven't cleared up whether or not Yang was specifically targeted as the person to break Merc's leg and spark that fiasco, or whether they just used her out of convenience since they could rig matchups and she was in the finals. if they are singling out team RWBY in particular for destruction, that could either be potentially very interesting depending on how things unfold or potentially terrible if the writing botches it. this episode kind of made me think they just wanted to target anyone in Beacon and nobody in particular though, by turning the public tide against their tournament combatants. it's already happening with people blaming Beacon for Yang's conduct, and the Pyrrha vs Penny match is obviously a setup to agitate that. cause turmoil against Beacon, and it becomes way easier to finish the job on Amber. I dunno why they would need to take out Ruby when she's not even fighting.

that wasn't the point though, even if MOST people in that stadium didn't notice her right away, she's still highly visible figure in the public right now, and sitting directly next to a bunch of other tournament participants. a lot of people could easily notice her walking around and being visible if she was there, but only Ruby seemed to give a second thought to that. seems weird, it would be more likely that just being seen anywhere in Vale would cause a media shitstorm with everyone trying to interview her, and reporting that she was sighted in Vale anyways even if they couldn't manage to pin her down for comment. but no, she's just doing her thing and being in public, and nobody but Ruby seemed to care.

it's just that this plot has so much inconsistency that it's hard to know for sure whether something is just poorly explained, misrepresented, a legitimate plot hole, an intentional use of incomplete information to create suspense, or what. it doesn't help either that they've suddenly switched gears from TELLING the plot to SHOWING the plot, so it makes it difficult to judge how the narrative devices are supposed to work now.
