25. Lady Killer
24. Thor / Thors / The Mighty Thor
23. Supermutant Magic Academy
22. Huck
21. Two Brothers
20. Astro City
19. Shaft
18. Grayson
17. Batman
16. Multiversity
15. The Wicked + The Divine
14. Silver Surfer
13. Darth Vader
12. Jem and The Holograms
11. Archie

Well, at least Grayson made it in.
>Jem that high tho
These people really have no shame.
Also, Squirrel Girl confirmed for top 10.
>>
>>78559312
>Squirrel Girl will beat Grayson
>Squirrel Girl will beat Multiversity

This can't be happening. Fuck, it's not even an SJW pandering thing, I have no problem with Thor or W+D being on this list, but SG is just bad. BAD!

Okay, but:

None of these titles deserve to be above Multiverse.

Ha.
>>
>>78559312
Was Vision ranked already? And are they really going to say Star Wars beats Darth Vader?
>>
>>78560322
Multiversity is highly overrated on /co/

Pax Americana was great. Thunderworld was great. The Just, Mastermen, Ultra Comics, and the Guidebook are fine (I personally like The Just a lot)

but Multiversity was a resounding meh that had no real conclusion.
>>
>>78560407
Yeah Vision was already ranked further up in a previous list
>>
>>78560407
>And are they really going to say Star Wars beats Darth Vader?
Looks like.

>>78560446
It's "overrated" by /co/ because there are a lot of folks on /co/ who aren't ashamed to like comics that aren't ashamed that they're comics.

>>
>>78559312

Yup. It was basically, we gotta throw them all in with it as to not make the SJWs mad.
>>
>>78559544
anon wasn't talking about "making lists" in the abstract.

anon is talking about the tendency in western media (short hand: America) to contextualize ideas/events/products within an easily digestible Top 10 or Top 100 format, as if the base-10 numbering system somehow gives us clues as to how we should compartmentalize information.
>>
>>78560598
But the SJWs hated Thors.
>>

I just counted, and it looks like there were 18 Marvel books in the list and 17 DC books. I didn't bother counting the Image books or other books.

That's actually closer than I expected the split to be, though I may have missed one or two books from either side. In any case, it almost makes me wonder if they fudged with the results to ensure an even split between the Big Two's presence.

Anon, this is CBR. It's a wonder that 90% of the list isn't Marvel, let alone any DC books besides Batgirl being on there at all. Most comic "journalism" sites hate DC because they don't pander to tumblr enough and hate quality, provocative storytelling that pushes the medium forward. That's why they love all this memeshit that image pumps out and Marvel's SJW comics.

Multiversity isn't a comic that isn't ashamed that it's a comic. In fact, i'd call it the complete opposite of that. A TV show that references that its a TV show doesn't mean it's proud of being a TV show. Morrison appeals to literally people who want to call comics an "intellectual medium" that can approach grand topics and concepts.

Something like Dial H or even fucking Deadpool do a better job of feeling comic book-y than Multiversity. Multiversity is exactly for people who feel ashamed that they read comics because they have to go "SEE! Superhero comics can be deep too!!"

Where I differ is that I think the "forced depth" of a Morrison book is AT LEAST working within the idioms and tropes of comic books. Layouts MEAN something. He still treats the superhero as an idealistic image. He's not Millar or Bendis or Miller or Moore. He's not ashamed of being corny or sentimental.

I agree about Deadpool and Dial H.

My "comics that are ashamed to be comics" was directed more at very specific books.
>Unbeatable Squirrel Girl
>Hellcat
>Thor
>elements of recent Batgirl, Starfire
>method of "passing the torch" implemented with Hawkeye, Wolverine, Captain America, Thor
>Saga
These are comics that trade on the value of being "OBVIOUSLY NOT FOR ICKY FAT MAN CHILDREN."

In the cases of "passing the torch," they not only made sure to make the "new occupant" worthy, they made damn sure to de-power, shame, humiliate and otherwise emasculate the "original."

It's not enough to just BE the hero now. The old hero has to be destroyed in such a way as to make you question his worthiness in the first place.

To my eye, "put him in a diaper" is the male equivalent of "being stuffed in the fridge."

>>
So I read Squirrel Girl this weekend (got it from the Library).

Why do people like it? And at the same time, why do people hate it so much? The art's bad and the humor and plots are boring, but there's books with worse art and writing that don't get that much hate.
>>
>>78561888
I'm pretty sure I've been reading comics for much longer than you have.
>>
>>78562015
15 years mate. Indie titles are great and all but their world is shallow and eventually you are gonna want deeper lore.
>>
>>78561919
Moore isn't ashamed of comic books at all, come back when you know what you're talking about and stop seeing a nonexisting agenda everywhere.
>>
>>78561924
I saw a lot of grumbling in the storytime of the first issue, and I don't see people talking about it without there being a new issue (unlike other crossovers and other TK comics.)
>>
>>78561919
Wait, when had Miller been ashamed of comics?
>>
>>78562039
I've been reading comics for over 15 years too. So I've got "pleb ass hipster taste" for wanting nice, self-contained stories that won't be overturned by some other hack later on and with character development that actually matters in the long run? Stories where the authors actually have a point to make instead of the "good guy punch bad guy" that has come to plague superhero stories so much lately? And really? "Muh lore"? Are we really going down that rabbit hole?
>>
>>78561879
He's not even writing Robin War predominantly, he's just a rotating fill in.
>>
>>78562090
Maybe you are just reading pleb ass superhero stories. Also lore is a valid point so stop trying to meme your way into being correct.

Maybe try Astro City or Grayson.
>>
>>78562092
He wrote the bookends
>>
>>78562000
for the dislike, part of it is resentment. people having a favorite artist they'd rather the Marvel job went to. Part of it is frustration since the artist/writer is friends with an admin on...comicvine I think, so SG gets regularly plugged as 'If you want girls in comics, buy SG!' at the expense of other female led comic books of higher quality like Prez or Tomboy. Part of it is straight up dislike for her 'always wins' gag, mostly from fans of villains that hate seeing them humiliated.

for the like, no idea, but from glancing at the letters page it seems like the target audience is 4-12 year old girls, and frankly only bad things come from caring about little girls liking the 'wrong' things.
>>
>>78562123
>Maybe you are just reading pleb ass superhero stories
Sure bud, I've been reading cape stuff all the way since the 1930's to present day, I'm sure I've just being missing the really good stuff.

>Also lore is a valid point so stop trying to meme your way into being correct
No, it's fucking not, it's just a cheap and shallow way to try to make a story more deep than it really is. Pacing, character development, pathos, a well crafted structure, dialogue, a fucking point, these are all the things that matter in a story, and superhero stories from the Big Two are certainly missing that last one nowadays, when every event that promises to "change everything forever" is overturned by another one in a matter of months, when the latest change in status quo for a character is just done for shock value and you know it's not going to last because it's happened so many times before.

>Maybe try Astro City or Grayson
Astro City isn't a Big Two superhero story, it's a creator owned story, as such, the characters are allowed to evolve, grow old, develop, and even die and stay dead. The stories actually build up to something and you know they will matter because no one else is going to take the book from Busiek.
Grayson is nice, but it won't last, it's just another interesting experiment by the Big Two waiting to be overturned by some uncreative hack that wants to bring everything back to the previous status quo.
>>
>>78562092
He did write the best parts of Robin War, though. The weaker issues were by Ray Fawkes. And then shit tie-ins were Lobdell, predictably
>>
>>78562044
>>78562073
you're missing my point. Miller and Moore pick characters apart in order to humanize them and bring them "down to earth/into the filth". They're two of my favorite creators, I'm not hatin on their output.

But Morrison, at least comparatively, is happy to let his characters stay "god-like." He's trying to build a pantheon, as opposed to humanizing a modicum of one.
>>
>>78562164
>If you want girls in comics, buy SG!' at the expense of other female led comic books of higher quality like Prez or Tomboy.

It's also presumptuous to think women only want/read titles with female protagonists. I've shown my girlfriend several of these "tumblr approved" comics like Batgirl, Captain Marvel, and Young Avengers, and her response to them was lukewarm. But she loved Gotham By Midnight and Swamp Thing because of all the gruesome stuff that goes down.
>>
>>78562257
Who fucking cares if it's overturned, it happened.
>>
>>78562257
>it won't last, it's just another interesting experiment by the Big Two waiting to be overturned by some uncreative hack that wants to bring everything back to the previous status quo.

This is how I feel about the new Batgirl run.

On one hand, some people are putting way too much effort into hating it as much as possible.

On the other hand, when someone calls it groundbreaking or innovative, they're really discrediting other books with similar direction but with much better writing (Ms. Marvel, Silk, etc).

But that only seems to be in regards to characters, not the medium itself.
>>
>>78562385
This happens to basically all indie books except Saga and Walking Dead.

See how Sex Criminals isn't on the list at all, etc.
>>
>>78562385
Which is made even fucking worse by the fact that East of West has been getting BETTER while Saga has been getting WORSE. The most recent issue alone was better than any of this year's issues of Saga.

I don't think either of them deserve to be the "best comic of 2015" but seeing EoW drop-off while Saga keeps rising despite their quality being the inverse is baffling.
>>
>>78562443
Sex Criminals will be top 10 I'm sure though.

Why doesn't /co/ just make a list of the best 2015 comics then?

So Catwoman, Gotham Academy, Gotham by Midnight, and Son of Batman didn't even make the list? Is this list some kind of popularity poll or something? Why the hell should I care about this list anyway?

I love Batman but it doesn't deserve to be that high, this year sucked. Squirrel Girl is garbage. American Alien made the list with literally two issues out. Paper Girls has 3. And Saga at number 1? I don't understand..
>>
>>78560926
The Fade Out is top ten material but the rest... jeez. Star Wars? Really? Fuck off.
>>
>>78562519
I disagree. I think it's still good enough to rate on the list. Towards the end of the list, granted, but it's still pretty good and there's something to be said for a creator-owned book with no adaptations of any kind boosting its profile having consistently high sales its getting.

Not that sales = quality, but still, it clearly resonates with enough people that thinking it belongs on a Top 100 of the year list is valid.

You're right that there has been a fucking glut of sci-fi action comics in 2015 though. It's like 3/4ths of Image's output these days.

>>

Is it just Big Two comics? Add Prez, Midnighter, Gotham by Midnight and Section 8 too and you basically have the only comics the majority of /co/ seems to like.

Maybe if we think hard enough we can get 10 books there.

So much for supporting women writers, right CBR? But no, let's just keep shilling the biggest releases of the year, clearly what matters here is how much coverage these comics got and not how good any of them are.
