This reminds me, Hades actually has a daughter, Her name is Marcaria, the story is that she had a horrifically burnt face and she was unloved by bascially every being in existence except for her father and Hades was always trying to make her happy going as far as forcing his only son Zargreus to be her boyfriend when he found out she was lonely.

I won't expect Disney to use her because of how obscure she is but damn do I want them to, Hades being a subservient and caring father that just wants to make her baby girl happy is a Hades I have to see, theirs that Disney Descendants thing, let's use her in that!

She's also the personification of a quiet and peaceful death.

Stories like those have been told to kids in most cultures in the world. Only modern america and their pets have a problem with those issues today.

just about every western adaptation of hades associates him with hell. Even though the underworld wasn't hell, so.... they make hades the devil. Hades was a neutral character like Death. Yet they can't help but make him some kind of satan.
>>

Issues of rapist Gods and beating people to death? Maybe in third-world countries.

You see I am completely ok with Children being told stories with adult themes as long as it pertains to the real world and real world issues and changing a fairy tale to make the story more entertaining/accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds is completely fine.

Are you telling me that you are too Autistic to enjoy one of the best animated films ever made just because it differs from another fictional story thousands of years old that has been retold countless times?

Wow sure love hearing the same exact shit for 10 years.
The story of Hercules is not for kids. Its about a guy who brutally murders his own family with his bare hands then has to kill giant animals and clean shit out a stable for years.

Should we put in that part where a hydra spawns from someone's nutsack being cut off? The kids will love it!

Actually, it was a well done classical satire in Greek tradition. They took the story of Hercules and turned it into the story of Superman, and their use of a Satyr was spot on.

Even if it wasn't faithful to the original myths, it was faithful to a whole bunch of Greek storytelling tropes, to the point that it could be argued that what they tried was even harder than just retelling a story.

>>
>>78508132
That's because it's not the original myth. It's a modern take on ancient greek comedy plays featuring a literal chorus narrating the story and a wacky satyr comic relief sidekick, which is something the Greeks had a whole subgenre of comic plays devoted to. Pour in elements of the modern Hercules story of Superman and there you go.

My favorite is when Apollo flays Marsyas alive. Everyone always imagines him ripping his skin off in one quick motion, but Apollo actually took his time with it, starting at his feet while he hung upside down

He should have known better than to think the irritating noises of his flute could ever match the divine vibrations of Apollo's lyre
>>
>>78514737
Ares always gets a bad rap in his depictions. Gods are in part defined by the other Gods and deities they associate with. Ares, being the consort of Aphrodite, was just as much a passionate and empowering lover of women as he was a war God. He was a sex symbol that women dreamed about.

People also often forget that Aphrodite is of the older generation of Gods, while Ares is of the younger generation. People often envision them as two youthful Gods, but by the time Aphrodite took Ares as her lover, it would have been more of a cougar kind of situation.
>>
>>78514834
That's his role in mythology. He was perpetually the God of the enemies of the Greek/Olympian order. He was the God of barbarian hordes, and the God that populated the wild woods with dragons. Ares was diametrically opposed to civilization after his exile from Olympus, and kept sacred groves deep in the wild as his places of worship.
>>
>>78512133
I thought it was he kidnapped her then let her leave but gave a fruit that she ate and it willed her to return to him for a set period of time. Granted the last time I read mythology was in 6th grade so I may not be getting all the details right

I read tons of fucked up Greek myths as a kid. So did most people I know. If it's in a myth it's socially acceptable content for children.
>>
>>78515234
It's a very complex myth that has multiple perspectives not taught in school. The first part is from Demeters perspective, in which she imagines Persephone withering away in horror as a prisoner in the Underworld, and the second part from Persephones perspective where she journeys through the Underworld facing and mastering it's horrors, growing past her role as Kore the maiden and becoming the powerful and radiant Queen of the Dead, climaxing in an explosive sexual union between her and Hades
>>
Okay we've established that Disney's Hercules movie is a damn good one that stands up on its own.

But what about the TV show?

Personally I liked it, continuity be damned.
>>
>>78515497
>>78515757
Hades was grim and terrifying, but he wasn't malicious in his nature. He was feared because if you ever laid your eyes upon him, it meant you were dead. He was the Lord of ghosts and lost spirits. When you entered his kingdom, you simply became another ghost wailing and haunting the halls of his palace, with Hades acting as your King. He was the judge of the dead, cold and distant on his throne, but he judged without arrogance or indignation.

People think of him as one of the more righteous Gods because he was the only one who was sternly responsible in his role above all else, despite being given the most demanding of positions.

My personal favorite is the story of how the centaurs, Ixionedae came to be. There's a guy named Ixion, he was rich, had a big mansion, and all of that. Marries one of the wealthier girls in town, however he has to pay up for the privilege of marrying her with some of his goats. During the after-wedding party, he kills his father-in-law for "charging too much". He's banished for breaking sacred hospitality and murder. Zeus, and the rest of the gods, take pity on the guy, as he may have been a bad host, but surely he would be a good guest? I mean, after all, it's only the Olympians, who are known for their capricious and cruel treatment of mortals, giving him the opportunity of being their guest. So, when their feasting, Ixion starts blatantly flirting and hitting on Hera!

Sure, it might have just been Dionysus' "special blend" of booze, so they let it go. Zeus, on the other hand, decides to test him. He makes a cloud woman in the shape of Hera, brings her to life, and floats her past the silk curtains of Ixion's room. He rapes her. He rapes her, THINKING IT WAS ZEUS'S WIFE/SISTER! For this abominable act, that he would rape Zeus's wife in his own home when Zeus had shown him some kindness out of his godly heart, he's fried on the spot and sent to Tartarus, where he flayed, lit on fire, and nailed to spinning wheel for all eternity.

Oh, and the cloud girl had baby centaurs. The end!
