I think Star does look sort of similar to Gravity Falls, but with more details like visible eye color and slightly (just slightly) more realistic proportions for the characters' ages. If you look at fanart Star always looks huge next to Mabel and Dipper even though she's only 1-2 years older. I think the design similarities are kind of a coincidence because the creator has been drawing Star that way for years and she and Hirsch were both in CalArts at the same time.

So where do you see the second season going? It appears Nefcy and her team left a lot of loose ends open, especially with the monster arm and Saint Olga's. Do you think next season they'll change the episodic format for something a bit stronger continuity wise? I think the show has some aspects of good lore and a lot of potential to grow.
I just hope Jackie doesn't become Wendy 2.0 and gets some type of development.

First episode is going to be a full 22 minutes and deal with the consequences of the wand's being cleaved, and there are several more full episodes set for next season, so seems like the plot is going to become a bit more prevalent.

I think Jackie is going to get more development too, because rewatching 1 in order I noticed they actually made a point to progress Marco's interactions with her slightly about every other time she appeared (not that that was subtle, but it's easy to forget if you only watched the show on the nights new episodes aired).

I really wasn't sure if Monster Arm was just meant to end with an ominous joke or if that really was foreshadowing something, but the finale seemed almost to confirm it might come up again. Never cared much about St. Olga's though; I more interested in whatever they end up doing with Toffee.

Seems like there will be some potential for Star to learn to adapt to having weaker magic until she gets her wand fixed. She may get more in touch with being a normal human, or learn to apply what magic she still does have more deliberately and wisely, and grow in those ways. Or, I wouldn't be surprised if the very first episode is a 20 minute-er where she repairs it. The lady from St O's will definitely be a recurring villain, hopefully that means the return of Star's little goth outfit and Princess Marco. My bet is on Ludo becoming a new ally, which means plenty of potential for Marco/Ludo or Mardo.
