At the end of episode III, Obi Wan says he's going to start calling himself "Ben". He then meets Anakin's step-sibling/Luke's Uncle for the first time to hand Luke over.

Luke didn't just start calling Obi Wan Kenobi "Old Ben" by himself. It doesn't even seem like Luke had ever met the man.

Ben was already Obi Wan's alias, and since he was an old man who lived by himself in the desert, people in the area called him "Old Ben".

Max Von Sydow and Gary Oldman being cast as an actual character suggests they would be pretty important.

We got Leia, Han, a defecting stormtrooper nobody, a currently unconfirmed bloodline nobody from Jakku, and the not-rebellion fighting against the not-Empire, the First Order, who are the successors to the Empire, not its remnant. The only relative was Kylo Ren, Han and Leia's son, who was part of the First Order.

The New Republic was barely featured beyond some offhand mentions and the destruction of the Senate and several other worlds.

This is just some random bullshit, but if you want yet another great example of George shitting up post-OT content to suit his whims, Grievous.

Grievous' original backstory was that he had been duped into believing the shuttle bombing that destroyed his body was a republic plot, which gives him ample reason to utterly despite the Jedi to the point of obsession.

George thought "Grievous wants to be a jedi but he can't so he's jealous and gets rebuilt" was better. Some elements (like the Jedi deciding to support the giant mantis slavers basically being Hitler to the Kaleesh) were legitimately dumb, but "Grievous decides to get full body reconstruction because he's a big dumb baby with hurt feelings" isn't any better.

Not necessarily. Meetra and Nihilus are both wounds in the force.

A wound is essentially anathema to the Force itself - an abomination. Meetra and Nihilus were both affected by the simultaneous murder of millions of force-sensitive life forms.

The difference is that Meetra managed to cut her connection to the Force, saving her from the pain. Nihilus on the other hand couldn't. Because he knew the people who had died - it was even more traumatic for him.

Nihilus' trauma instead manifested as his "hunger". That combined with his new position as a force wound let him develop an insanely OP version of Force Drain - his signature power.

IIRC, it's implied that Meetra never really regained her Force Powers, and she's been leeching off of the raw power of everyone she met. This is why she was so powerful, for every person she met, the stronger she became - forming "bonds" or force channels that she could draw from, no matter where in the Galaxy she was.

Nihilus's power is more direct. Unlike Meetra who technically borrows or shares raw force power, Nihilus literally takes it, or steals it.

But because Meetra never really became a direct conduit for the Force herself (like she used to be as a typical Jedi), she became the one person in the entire galaxy (at the time) who was completely immune to Nihilus' drain.

I don't really hate watching any of the movies other than the Phantom Menace which is blatantly a bore

But that doesn't stop them from being bad movies, which they are. When I'm watching something else and an event from the prequels comes up I don't picture the direct event from the prequels, I just think of a vague recreation. I don't do it on-purpose, it just happens.

Like, particularly with scenes with Anakin. His character as Vader only works if he's a brave hero before his fall, but he's just a cunt in 2 and 3.

I can't remember if it was rumors of fan theories anymore, but I remember people talking months ago regarding the scenes of the Graverobber finding Vader's armor and why it would be important. It was mentioned that the mechanical systems in Vader's helmet recorded what the Sith Lord saw and heard. This could make it invaluable for holding everything from secrets of the Sith imparted by Sheev to also secret shit the Empire or Vader himself hide away.

I guess it's possible it was a rumor if it's possible this is what Kylo Ren was talking about his granddad showing him. He may be emulating how he sees Vader behave from recordings taken from Vader's helmet. Makes more sense than Anakin's Force ghost being evil or corrupted again.
