What's that? Merry Flashmas?
Any travel plans this season, /co/? Any nightmare tales of travel during the busiest season?
(I asked last thread, but I'll ask again, mostly to see if anyone will /co/mmiserate with me. I fly home from a conference on the 23rd,)

3F2GPVFCQ4YK8 here lurking. I forgot to make it not private. Fixed, and thanks for mentioning it.
The boss Ric Flair Christmas shirt I mentioned previously arrived today. The missus suggested that I wear it to her company Christmas party earlier, but I thought she was joking. There were two or three folks wearing pop culture sweaters and she said she didn't know why I didn't wear mine and blow theirs away. I didn't know she was serious.
Guess I'll now have to wear it for our family Christmas photo whenever we get one made.

I was surprised with 2 gifts from you guys, and I have repaid in kind to 2 others. Thanks a lot, anons!
I went for a run this morning wearing the Blue Lantern shirt a kind anon gifted me. I want to say it made all the men jealous and all the ladies throw themselves at me, but of course that didn't happen. I also want to say it gave me the strength to make my best time, but that didn't quite happen either. But I didn't feel quite so exhausted at the end and didn't get a bad stomach cramp, so hey. Also I like to think it gave me extra hope.
Meanwhile, probably going to close this out around 3:00 Eastern time today:
Last year I did a great contest for /co/ to record themselves singing/playing Christmas songs, and it was incredibly delightful. So we'll repeat it this year! Sing or play (or both) a Christmas song of your choosing (carol, hymn, whatever you like) and upload the recording to vocaroo or Youtube or wherever you please, then send the link to [email protected] along with your wishlist link. The one that tickles my fancy the most will receive a gift!

REPOSTING FROM THE LAST THREAD
I just got my paycheck on Friday, and had some time to sit down and record, so here is the third installment of NAME THAT CHRISTMAS CAROL.
I have recorded myself playing four different fairly obscure Christmas songs. The first person to identify all four wins A FABULOUS PRIZE that I will order off of their list.
This will likely be the last one I run this yearbecause the only ones left I have sheet music for are either too well known or shit and I don't want to play themso pay attention and do your best.

What's it with bears and sneaking into cabins? This is the third Disney storytime I've done where it happens.
>>78153142
Alright sounds like it's time for hints.
1. This one was actually guessed by an anon in an earlier installment of this contest. It was an incorrect guess at the time, but I really like the song and decided to do it for real.
2. This is an African-American spiritual, but somehow didn't get to be as well-known as "Go Tell It On the Mountain" which is a goddamn shame because I like this one much, much better.
3. Even though this gets a lot of play around Christmas time, the lyrics actually refer to the events of the Annunciation, which is celebrated in March.
4. A traditional English carol, it goes by a couple different names, but the version I know it as is named for a specific region of England where it is thought to have originated.

>This is an African-American spiritual, but somehow didn't get to be as well-known as "Go Tell It On the Mountain" which is a goddamn shame because I like this one much, much better.

I made a list for just comics that i've been posting. I guess people could buy from another list but i don't expect it

Well shit, I was digging around for info on the carols I recorded and realized the hint I gave you guys for #4 is actually incorrect, and is a much newer carol than I thought. The tune it's based on actually comes from a traditional FRENCH melody.
Merry Christmas guys

Is it still named after a region in a country? I'm guessing it's France now, not England.
>>78153670
>>78153697
Nope, I don't know what the tune itself is called, but the carol has a specific name related to the lyrics. If that's the one everyone's stuck on by the end of it, I may just call that one a gimme and accept guesses for the other three.
>>78153718

Remember to celebrate Christmas with peace and goodwill to all men in your heart. Or the Spectre will fucking kill you.Maybe
>>78153718
One more hint for number one maybe~?
>>78153773
The title comes from another name for "Bethlehem" which has specific connections to OT prophecy relating to the circumstances of Jesus's coming as the Messiah.
That's about the most I can give you.
I've got all of them but number 4, so I'm just going to assume that it's an Adele song.
>>78153819
I'll wait to see if anyone else gets number 4because you won the last one, you greedy fuckerand if not, I'll call it. I'm actually surprised people got stuck on this one and not the other two contests.

I'm competing for an ungifted anon. I call it fair.

>>78153162
1. Hark the Herald Angels Sing
2. Children Go Where I Send Thee
3. While Shephard's Watched Their Flocks
4. The Sussex Carol
>>78153975
Man everyone guesses Hark the Herald Angels for the first one. Those intro chords are pretty much identical, but nope, different song.
Sussex Carol is actually what I confused #4 with when I recorded it. It's a different song too. (
>>78154012
Goddamn, as if I got Sussex Carol but it still isn't right! Hmmm. How are my other guesses? Or do you not want to say
>>78154024

You're always on the run now.

I'm hyperbolizing slightly but with bills and everything else I burned through all of this month's paycheck.
I'm going to have to cheapen up anyway what with the Canadian dollar going to shit and the prices of commodities being cranked up. I've already started relying a lot on tofu since meat prices are getting wacked out.

Once I started, running wasn't so bad. It's really hard for me to do when the weather isn't just right, however.
I've also been trying to do some weights, and that I have a harder time with. It's dull and repetitive and I'll have a week when I do it regularly and then just... not do it for a while. It's a process, I guess.

I feel like if that last fight between kouta and Kaitou hadn't been split up between the last half of one episode and the first half of another it might have been a bit more satisfactory as a final battle
>>78155882
Also Agito is the shit. It starts out as a sorta Kuuga lite with multiple riders, but then it turns into X Men
>>78155923Biggest problem I have with Gaim is that Sagara got off scott-fucking-free at the end of the series
In the interests of keeping this on topic though, I'd totally be down for watching the 80's He-Man Christmas Special too, When is it going to be on?

>>78156492
Yeah it seems like it'll be a really fun little quirky story, hopefully not cringe-inducing. I like the pulp scifi vibe of the trailers and the tagline 'sci-fi rom-com' and it sounds just up Moffat's alley. I think i'm also just really happy to get back to more continuity free shenanigans after that finale.
>>78156509
Yeah it can get rough sometimes but I think a lot of fandoms get like that if you look hard enough, I'd also say that /who/ is generally pretty good-hearted and takes things lightly in contrast to the other big Who discussion places which take things a lot more seriously
We even instituted secret santa on /who/ last year after /co/'s example and the tradition's going strong in its' 2nd year
While y'all listen to some Christmas tunes, I'm going to storytime another story.
Someone posted this last year, and I just wanted to repost it because of how great it is. If you're in here, just wanted to say how much I liked it!
Man, I want to buy something for that last Canadian list, but it's all too expensive for me.

I knew thatDavroswas going to be coming back before the season started. I was even at a con the day the first episode of this season aired. There was a pannel being run by some Dr. Who "experts", that were just fans and one runs a Dr. Who fan site. But I asked them aboutThe Big Bang, series 5 finale, there was a voice on the Tardis that said "silence will fall" that sounded just like Davros. The experts just brushed it off saying it was a generic voice and no one in particular.

They were going to originally use practical effects for the prequel, just like they did in the Cameron version, but one of the producers went into the workshop and saw one of the prosthetic that required a forced perspective, so at any other angle you'd see the actor. The producer didn't like that fact that he could see the actor so he vetoed the practical effects and the movie changed over to CG.

He-man Christmas special in 2 minuets.

It's a shame too.
The practical effect for Split-Face was fucking amazing.
And the cast all had a good sense of comraderie because the Norwegians had worked on projects together before.

Awww yeah, He-Man's friends all came in their best bondage costumes
I'm honestly disappointed that The Thing hasn't gotten a decent Blu-Ray release. Drives me nuts when a Blu-Ray is released that's bare bones in the extras when a DVD copy already exists with a ton of features.
What'd you guys think about The Thing video game?

I have indeed seen The Thing From Another World with its bizarre humanoid vegetable alien, though it's been quite some time. I'm a fan of old B-movies like that, but I prefer Carpenter's version to the original.

It was alright. I wish they'd gone with more practical effects and they ruined the psychological suspense by having the Thing burst through walls every few minutes.
>>78157339
Man I can get his point, but that is like what the Thing is all about.

I love it due to the fact my Grandpa always talked about it and one summer this station was running a horror classic marathon and we got to watch it together. Loved it. It'll always hold a special place in my heart.

The game was alright, not nothing tops the Warriors.
And yeah the barebones quality of the BR is so bad.
I liked that it was smashing through walls because it made that damn dog popping up out of nowhere so hilarious.

But a simular thing happened with Alien Resurrection. A producer had the idea to bring some teens in to see the prosthetic being made for the hybrid at the end but the teens didn't find it scary so they had to scrap their original idea and take some of the kid's pointers and that's how we ended up with the fugly baby thing saying mama.

Yeah, and I think much of that is what pulled people away. It should be a feast for the eyes, but then you have the horrible CGI from the helicopter scene etc.
I think the director went back to doing commercials, which is a shame. Seemed like a fun guy.

Hahah damn it! Once again teenagers prove they are and always will be the worst.

He can always make a comeback. Horror movies are kind of coming back oddly enough. One can only hope we'll have a new fright fest soon enough.
>>78157619
Yeah, goddamn teens.
It's funny that I was actually the only teen in my theatre when it came out. There were only 10 or so people, but there were all mid-thirties or so.
Here's the director's last work that I know of

Glorious!

Yeah, fun guy, hopefully he can bounce back to the big screen.
He seemed really confident in the original cut too.
I'm reading some of the story in the Ghostbusters boardgame and there's a bit i had to share.
"The other part of Winston's brain was still trying to decide if these men were insane. After all these year, he still wasn't sure... though the answer was probably yes. After all, they developed nuclear technology to shoot lasers at the restless dead. What kind of sane man would respond like that?"
>>78157834
Winston was always my favorite Ghostbuster mainly because he was the only sane one.

Mine too.
Cause he quoted scripture

You can't get much more metal than quoting Revelation.

You truly cannot be stopped.
Merry Christmas, /co/!
For some reason this year seems more jolly than last. Everyone seems much more in the Christmas spirit.
A lot of people I know started decorating in November. Make me feel all warm and fuzzy.
What's your favorite part of Christmas, /co/? What do you guys to do to get into the spirit?

Cooking and playing christmas music (what did you expect).

I picked one up at Best Buy because they had it discounted to like 35 bucks, and I've been really happy with it.

Invader Zim: The Most Horrible X-Mas Ever starting soon.

Generally the music is what really makes me feel like it's Christmas. This year, though... Not really feeling it.
Honestly, it still doesn't feel much like Christmas. It used to be so magical, but increasingly it's just becoming another holiday.
Let's close out this thread with a quick story.
>>78158942
The thing that makes Christmas for me are the little ones. My nieces are 7 and 4, and one of my cousins now has a 2-year old and a pretty new babby, and they're going to have a blast with all the food and presents. Store-bought presents are less compelling than "take", though. (how the 4-year old says 'cake', her favorite thing in the word being 'tokit take')

Bolivian guy here, can't believe someone would actually agree to ship something through all these fucking llamas, you're fucking awesome.
