18 ungifted folks left! With your help, /co/mrades, we can make that 0! Just buy a gift now! God I feel like an NPR pledge drive.

And of course:
Last year I did a great contest for /co/ to record themselves singing/playing Christmas songs, and it was incredibly delightful. So we'll repeat it this year! Sing or play (or both) a Christmas song of your choosing (carol, hymn, whatever you like) and upload the recording to vocaroo or Youtube or wherever you please, then send the link to [email protected] along with your wishlist link. The one that tickles my fancy the most will receive a gift! Contest will close on Sunday, again, unless people really need more time.

Yeah, stockings are standard Christmas fare in the UK - there's a chain store called Hawkin's Bazaar where you can buy pre-stuffed stockings.
>those popper things
I'm assuming you mean crackers ("poppers" in the UK usually mean "alkyl nitrites"). Crackers are almost as weird as table presents, and very idiosyncratic to a British Christmas.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_cracker

The jokes are always bad, and that is what makes them funny to us. I appreciate that doesn't make a lot of sense to you, but that's how it works over here.

I'm finally ho-ho-home after work and getting settled into a book. Forgot I don't have the 3rd Sweet Tooth trade yet thanks to slow ass mail, so I'm reading Superman Earth One for the first time. So far it's pretty boring and moody Clark is something I'm not entirely fond of, even though I love Man of Steel. As someone who loves both Batman E1 books and even Teen Titans E1, this is a let down. Let's hope the second and third book are better!

What's everyone else reading?
>>
>>
>>
>>78110119
The second is completely terrible, and the third is the same level of mediocre that the first was.

Can't believe you liked TTE1...it was dire.
>>
>>78109960
Dang, Sugar Plum Fairy a qt
>>
>>78110119

Simonson's Thor vol. 3.

I bought it ages ago and only now actually got around to reading it. This run just makes me realize how much wasted potential the Thor movies were.
>>
>>78110119
I'm reading a list of comics that I need to read.
>>
>>78110180
Damn straight Minifig
>>
>>78110119
When China Ruled the Seas: The Treasure Fleet of the Dragon Throne, 1405-1433.

I know, super exciting, right? It's actually really interesting. My goal this year has been to read at least one book a month, so I'm trying to finish up that challenge. Once I finish that I'll get back to comics and dive more heavily into Superman: Birthright and then try to finish up the Flash reading I want to do before the year ends.
>>
>>
>>
>>78110119
Read the Megahex Hank Scorpio got me. Always loved the Megg and Mogg comics.
>>
Fucking shit mother fuckers. After looking through all of the remaining ungifted anons I pulled 4 more lists due to address issues.

We are down to 14 ungifted without address issues. The pastebins have been updated.
>>
>>78110234
Crazy stuff man
>>
>>
>>
>>78110234
At least the address-less ones make it easy, and they're also most likely ones who drop lists and don't stick around.

Guys, we can easily get it to below 10 tonight. I know 4 people are reading this and want to do more gifting, or maybe haven't gifted yet.
>>
>>
>>78110282
Come on everyone, do it for Archie
>>
>>
>>78110176
Well shit, I'm a bit of a completion so I'm in for some pain. As for TT, I found the cast fun enough and I really loved Deathstroke this time around. The story wasn't anything too special but I enjoyed myself!
>>
>>78110234
Last year was 15 right? We've broken the record!
>>
>>78110337
Haha, well alright.
I just thought the plot was too much of a rehash and the dynamics not really that engaging.

The third Superman one also has the stupidest version of Lex Luthor. I mean in terms of intelligence. He's dumb.

Just preparing you for that.

Would a guy like this? He likes comics(especially superman) but he usually hates things like superhero shirts and so on. I don't know, I just don't want to blow a hundred bucks on something he'll hate
>>
>>78110474
Does he drive a motorcycle? Because if not, definitely don't get him that.
>>
>>78110474
Well, if he doesn't like shirts it's probably because they're too conspicuous.

Try to find subtle swag.
Check Redbubble or Neato
>>
>>
>>78110474
If he doesn't like superhero shirts, I expect he wouldn't like something like that.
>>
>>78110474

Hey, merry christmas. Not going to post my list this year since I haven't really posted in about two years, and other anons have gifted me in years past when I was in harder times.

What do you think of my tree topper? Has anyone else used /co/ related decorations?
>>
>>78110474
I wouldn't. A lot of times these leather jackets are super shit quality with weird dimensions too.
>>
>>

I'll be adding a singing entry, I gotta find a microphone, I've got my tablet and phone but they don't make the best recordings.

I've got an idea for a Santaseid picture, and I got my pastels out of storage to try making it but I need a name. In place of Apokolips, what jolly place would Santaseid live?

>>78110234
>>78110282
We do have 22 of the address-less anons. I can try what I did last year by adding their lists as friends, it allows a message to be sent and I had warned all of them last year of the issues but never saw a change.

I do think Tajador is right about people dumping their lists and not coming back, infact I know he's right and there's been a few lists posted once early on and never seen again.

>>78110344
Indeed, last year we had 194 posted lists and 15 ungifted at the end, once again leaving out the address-less.

At this time this year we're at 185 posted lists, 164 without the address-less, and 14 ungifted, 36 with the address-less.

This does give us a 88% gifted rate if we leave the address-less from the math, 78% if we count them in.
>>
>>
>>78110548
I love it man.
If i had my own tree i would put figures on it too.
>>
>>
I'd like to pick your brains, friends: What's that one Christmas special? Not the ones everyone knows and loves, but the one that got shown one year and disappeared from the TV listings, but not your memory. You might not even remember the title or plot... but maybe if you mention it, another /co/mrade might know what you're talking about.

Been moving for last couple weeks so haven't been 100% of where I'd be situated, so didn't want to post a list in case somebody gifted me and I missed it, and finally got settled in the new place, don't want to be *that* guy who comes in at thread 20 and throws a new list into the ring.

Other idea that just popped into my head; comic STRIPS. Top three recommendations from me would be Flash Gordon, Prince Valiant and Popeye... although Flash's and Val's adventures are pretty easy to get scans of. On the other hand, Fantagraphics' Prince Valiant reprints are sooo much better than the version that's been scanned, and cover a lot more than the one torrent I found (FG are almost into the 60's!).

As for why you should get Popeye... pic related. Pic VERY related.

So the remaining DC mini series with original creators is being relegated to one anthology book? I completely get why they do it, sales for one book instead of split between 3, but like hell do I wanna spend $8 on a single issue every month.
>>
>>78112253
My BIL got my dad (who's really not a comics type) to read Transmet, and he loved it. I've also hit him with Fury MAX, and I'm eagerly awaiting the Prez trade for the same purpose.

>>78112655
It kills me how badly DCYou has done. It's been such a solid lineup for DC, and they received nothing for it, so I'm sure it will be back to business as usual before too long.

If Prez part 2 gets cancelled I will never know happiness again.
>>
>>78112766

I don't read Prez but them splitting it into 2 parts and the sales lead me to believe there's no chance.

I suppose I should set up an Amazon account. Do you need one to see someone else's wishlist? Do you need to post a list? Because since I don't have an account it would seem kind of greedy to just make one just for this, you know?
>>
>>78112799
You should read Prez. it's just the most hilariously cynical critique of social media and political culture. There's nothing quite like it. And there probably won't be for a long time to come.
>>
>>78112799

The trade sales could save it honestly. I think that's what they're waiting for.

This "Let's all shit on DC!" trend is kind of disconcerting to me when they're releasing pretty good titles. I wish they would do better.
>>
>>78112836
You do need an Amazon account but nothing greedy about it if you spread the love!
>>
>>78112844

It's sad when I go to the LCS, they see what books I'm picking up for the week and ask "oh hey I haven't read that yet, do you like it?"

It's how I pitched Gotham by Midnight to everyone there. (Didn't help the sales though, apparently)
>>
>>78112799

The creative team has tweeted Didio promised them that back 6
>>
>>78112852
I'm generally ambivalent to the whole SJW thing, but I think DCYou makes a strong case that they don't put their money where their mouth is, or at least that they only really buy into the Marvel PR machine.

>>78112888
And then on the flipside, I'm still part of the problem too. I've never been a floppy buyer, but I decided to try out a few series for DCYou. I buy Prez and Dr. Fate, and then read the monthly scans for We Are Robin and will probably end up buying the trade for it. I also bought the first issue of Omega Men didn't grab me, but I always felt like I should give it another try. That too I might tradewait for, which I guess doesn't do any good.
>>
>>78112906
Ah good but after Omega Men I don't know what to believe.

>>78112844
I'm definitely open to reading it, I'm just so behind on my monthlies as is and since I forgot Sheriff of Babylon exists I'm even further behind!

>>78112852
Depresses me too, I'm enjoying a bunch of books that realistically just don't have a shot in this sad market right now.

>>78112888
I had to do that with Grayson. My one comic reading friend who's an extreme casual would hate on Grayson because NOT MUH NIGHTWING until I forced him to read it.
>>
>>78112253

So I'm 2MOV0MGY5304H the anon from the last thread that gifted a few people during The Riddler's challenge, and it has totally warmed my heart to see just how far we've come with just a single day's efforts. I fully believe that we'll be hitting zero ungifted in no time! It was nice to come home and see the Christmas spirit out in full force after dealing with crass commercialism all day.
>>
>>78112965
I'd still recommend reading the rest of Transmet even if you have to download it, it really is quite good. The first few issues are unfortunately the worst.
>>
>>78113060
I think we'd get to zero ungifted if it weren't for the few lists with minimum $50 items

other than those though, we can still lower that number
>>
>>78113137
Yeah, that always seems like kind of dick move, given the spirit of the season.

Omega Men getting uncancelled was a truly O__O IT CAN HAPPEN moment for me because I got bitchy on twitter about it ending early

>>
>>78112852
I'm admittedly not a huge DC fan. but some of the books coming out now have been pretty entertaining. Plan on collecting at least Grayson one day and Prez in trade as well. I need to catch up on JL3K while I'm at it.

I always wonder what they are expecting by putting these kinds of items. It's kinda rude I believe. Not everybody wants to shill 50$ to a complete stranger. And I find myself indecent to put one or two items at 30$.

Hell. I'm really grateful that some anon spent a bit of money for me (and I hope the anons I gave to are also grateful!)

I think it's listed as a complete series trade but shit with trades can go through a lot of changes before they're actually printed compared to what they're solicited as/Amazon listed as.

You shouldn't feel bad about it. A lot of people (myself included) use their regular wishlists, so there's books on there that are $100+ sometimes, no one is expecting someone to buy them. Of course those people will generally also have a bunch of other books at varying prices. If people are making wishlists specifically for this thread and just putting omnibuses on it and stuff, they're probably the ones posting once trying their luck and never coming back. and shouldn't even be added to the ungifted list in my opinion.
>>
>>78109909
Sounds like fun, but I'm working all day Saturday and Sunday. Also, I have too much Spaghetti to sing with other people in the hous.
>>
>>78113663
I just keep the omnibus I want on the shopping instead of the wishlist, so I can still keep an eye on the price until I get some extra cash to buy it myself.
>>
Uhh, nobody buy anything for the American lists for the next few minutes.
>>
>>78113753
>>78113663
I too use my list for family & for the thread, so tons of stuff exists that I'd never expect a bro to pick up. Also, anyone watching the MST3K stream? New stretch goal at $6.3 million for another episode.

While I understand your frustration, just relax and enjoy the season. Also, there's still plenty of time left until Christmas. You know when you want to read/see something so much you don't really get around to doing it?

You're so confident that you'll like it - it just goes on the back burner whilst you try out some new and interesting stuff - and never actually get around to it.

Maybe that's just me - but that has been my relationship with Foes.

I'm like that with movies too. I'm so sure that I'll watch something - I never bother because I'm too busy trying to fit in all the stuff I might forget.

Man, I can tell you, cooking for 12 people is HELLISH. Done the big Christmas dinner for family and they've left. 3 meats, man.... Not going to be doing that for a looonnng time. Someone else can cook on Christmas day.

Anyway, hello one and all. These threads are monsters to catch up on now.

Some early Scrooge there.

>Scrooge did not yet have his familiar characteristics in his first comic story. In "Christmas on Bear Mountain", Scrooge was a bearded, bespectacled, reasonably wealthy old man, visibly leaning on his cane. He was living in isolation in a "huge mansion", which is said to be influenced by Xanadu from Orson Welles's Citizen Kane. Scrooge has always been a somewhat bitter character, but his misanthropic thoughts in this first story are probably less characteristic of Scrooge than those of his rival Flintheart Glomgold.

Seriously. Also Hallmark has overspecialized, so instead of, say, 10 general Christmas cards where there's a chance of maybe 3 being great, you have 3 general cards, 2 Christmas for someone "like a mother," 2 for December birthdays (which is nice because my mom has a December birthday, but the options suck), and 3 cards in various foreign languages, so you're stuck with poor choices all around.

I opted for some foreign language ones. Hopefully the recipients get a chuckle.

My favorite part of /co/ holiday time are the holiday lanterns. I laughed a bunch at the thanksgiving ones we had
>>
>>78122122
They got boring after the first few holidays.
Degenerated into glorified role playing threads.
>>
>>78122110
I swear I must. I always get things way early.
>>
>>78122161
Yeah, they lost their appeal to me after the first year or two. All the good ideas have been done, and then for a few years they became nothing but thinly veiled fap bait with Aunt Carol. Not my cup of tea.
>>
So just curious, is it out of the question to have two people in charge of the pastebin? Preferably two people who are in different halves of the globe for better coverage.
Just so we can avoid situations like last night.
Hell, the Pastebin's still not even updated.
>>
>>78122248
Exactly, it's less macro more people using the images to talk to each other.
>>
>>78122249
What happened last night?
>>
So I actually submitted my list awhile ago but I just realized I forgot to add a shipping address. So here it is again.

3BK5OUHSIA1VP
>>
>>78122297
Someone bought for a lot of people last night and cleared the pastebin of the non-Europe wishlists.
Well, Elusive was asleep so some of the people were gifted again by other people not knowing that they were already gifted (they were still in the pastebin afterall, so why wouldn't they?).
This made some people upset, since one guy is now getting something like like, four presents.
Now, I don't really care, season of giving and all that, but I can at least understand their frustration over the situation.
>>
>>78122297
A couple ppl gifted the last group of ungifteds multiple times because the pastebin wasn't updated when they were originally gifted, so people are buttmad because those people got multiple gifts and they didn't. Oh, and apparently it's Elusive's fault because he's not sitting in the thread 24/7 waiting for people to get gifted so he can immediately update the pastebin.
>>
>>78122386
>they were still in the pastebin afterall, so why wouldn't they?
How hard is it to crtl+f the wishlist or check their purchased list? I did it for every list I looked at because you should know the pastebin isn't always up to date.
>>
>>78122409
Man, I'll be happy if I'm gifted once. Expecting multiple presents from anons hardly seems to be within the Christmas spirit.
>>
>>78122471
I had to do that 4 times before I found a real ungifted

Anons just be lazy
>>
>>78122471
>you should know the pastebin isn't always up to date.
Apparently, people did not know this.
Because it happened multiple times last night.
>>
>>78122471
I dunno about others, but when I tried to filter "purchased/unpurchased", the site wouldn't let me. So I just winged it.
>>
>>78122510
that function isn't good anymore.

Checking the thread is the only surefire way
>>
>>78122510
I've got the same problem. I don't know what's up with that. So I usually just ctrl+F the thread and hope for the best.
>>
>>78122409
>Oh, and apparently it's Elusive's fault because he's not sitting in the thread 24/7 waiting for people to get gifted so he can immediately update the pastebin.

Playing Devils Advocate here, but you'd think with the multiple people headlining these threads, maintaining the pastebin would be a group effort.
>>
>>78122494

Man, I wasn't going to do any more gifting until I finished my family shopping, but you can't really beat that price. Enjoy the gift!

>>78122509
No one's fault but their own honestly. And if you're upset that people are getting more than you (I'm not saying you specifically, just as a general statement) maybe this isn't the place for you. Not trying to be a jerk here, but it's the season of giving, not the season of getting or evening out.

>>78122510
You have to change one of your lists to purchased and then plug in their code in place of yours. It's a hassle, but it only takes a second and you can see if they've been gifted or not.

That's nothing. Try that arrangement kf "who's bringing unannounced guests" with 70+ people already PLANNED to show up for Thanksgivings with my dad's side of the family.

(Good thing everyone already understands the importance and cooks food to bring with them. My uncle's family who usually hosts just makes the turkeys and the ham and leaves veggies/casserole/desserts to everyone else.)
>>
>>78122808
I fail to see how that makes any difference
>>
>>78122896
When everyone is gifted, basically all you can do is either stop or hit up the gifted with more swag. Granted we do have a problem with the ungifited Eurofriends.

And if the person was that upset about that one anon getting a lot of gifts, they can always just cancel their order and find someone else to gift.

Christmas is serious business.
>>
>>78122798

Sometimes it happens. There's no malice in it, just who got lucky to get hit twice before they were taken off.

We don't HAVE to do a secret santa thread. Everything we get from it is a gift and people ahould be happy for it. I teach kids who aren't getting shit this Christmas and they know it already and have to listen to their classmates brag about how they're getting a tablet or a hoverboard. I have one girl in my homeroom whose parents give her a 50$ bill for Christmas and that's it.
>>
>>78122896
There was a small group of ungifted. They were all gifted at once by one anon, making all the US anons gifted. Then a couple people came in and regifted them. There were no ungifted US anons left to gift to, besides supposedly them. You just seem upset that you weren't a part of the group.
>>
>>78122963
I'm not even that anon. I even said that I was gifted and was gifting. I was playing devil's advocate.

Nope, it's held at my uncle's house, but he has a pretty expansive place, so between his big finished basement, the kitchen, living room and dining room we manage to hold everyone.

aunts and uncles are getting older, cousins are almost all married away and raising families of their own, and it's much harder for everyone to travel so we haven't had a big Thanksgiving like that for a few years though. I miss them.

You know, as a fellow introvert, I find the best way to deal with the holidays is just to go for a walk. Take a brother or something if you really want. Just recharging for like twenty minutes walking around the neighborhood in the cold/chilly air really helps me when the family gets too much.
