Muscle-bound heroes, dark storylines, characters who "don;t have superpowers" despite their obvious superhuman physicals, "magic" that might just be something that could be understood if the setting had any secular science, all that stuff.
And, of course, women in all sorts of new and exotic scantily outfits. and men in similar outfits, I suppose.

Anyone ever see this movie? quite possibly the best American Adult animations ever filmed
Anyone ever read this guy from Marvel? like, I'm sure plenty have sen his appearances in X-Men comics now and then, but in his own comics?
He's a bit bland, but he does get in some neat situations sometimes, and the caveman/dinosaur setting of the savage land is always fun.
What about this guy? DC's premiere low fantasy hero, a lot more original than Ka-Zar, who's pretty much just blond Tarzan.
He's distinguished from a lot of other low fantasy heroes in that he's in a setting where most people use swords, but he carries around a gun and he's not afraid to shoot people.
Also, anyone remember him from that one episode of JLU?
Any John Carter fans? I'm gonna say he;s been in enough comics to justify his discussion on this board.
Barsoom is a great low fantasy setting, where everyone is almost always naked as a cultural thing, technology is randomly all over the place, and there are tons of established monsters of various levels of intelligence.
also, humans get superpowers when they go there.
several episodes of Samurai jack probably fit into this genre.
those and Thundarr

That one was pretty good.
>>78057770
His 80s series was actually pretty awesome.
>>78057842
I've got his and Ka-Zar's full series uploaded in the pastebin over here: >>78046509 along with all of Marvel era Conan excluding Savage Sword.
>>78058335
I really enjoyed how he got to actually shoot a firearm.
>>78058428
Yes it was. also, Ka-zar is the strongest normal human in Marvel.
did you read the issues of What If? where Conan fought Thor, Wolverine, and Captain America?
You think if Tarzan was black everyone would call the comic racist for having a black guy who's entire gimmick was being a master of the jungle and identifying as an ape?
You think if Conan were black everyone would call it racist because it was about a violent barbarian cynically pursuing his own self-interest while having sex with all kinds of exotic women and talking about how much he enjoyed killing people and hated civilization?
remember when Conan decided a bear didn;t exist?

how did this never get made?
Why is there so little yaoi/rule34 of these guys? These are some of the greatest husbandos of all time.

he isnt as muscular, but I think Turok deserves a spot in this thread.
Also, I just finished Kurt Busiek's run of Darkhorse's Conan, and it has been one of the most enjoyable fantasy tales I've ever read
do capes ever straight up murder animals like this?
>>78057602
>And, of course, women in all sorts of new and exotic scantily outfits
You rang?
>>78062042
that's quite the outfit, is the series any good?
I'm trying to get my own heroic fantasy comic book off the ground. It's slow going, doesn't help the artist I'm putting it together with is massively in demand (for indie stuff anyway)
>>78062094
Its not that bad, actually. Needs to be storytimed some day.
>>78062179
what distinguishes it from any other heroic fantasy?
>>78062394
>what distinguishes it from any other heroic fantasy?
The setting I think will be fairly different from the standard, and the protagonist is very much not a Conan clone. More a warrior priest.
Also more drawing from Fritz Lieber than anything else as influences go, with a fair bit of the world drawn from Ancient Summeria as opposed to the usual fur clad warriors of the cold north thing.
At the end of the day though I just hope the execution is done in a pleasing and readable manner. You can have a unique thing that's a hot mess, or something rather derivative that has excellent story telling. Reaching for uniqueness doesn't always lead to positive results. Nailing the craft of it is the way to go.
Anyone ever read Tarzan vs Predator: At Earth's Core?
no? well it was pretty cool.
I really wish we got more low fantasy crossovers. how awesome would it be to see Ka-Zar in the MVU? or have Conan the barbarian guest star in a Mortal Kombat game.
>>78058502
Yeah, those were cool issues.
>>78065422
did you read any of the 70s series? Zabu totally fucking ate a bunch of AIM agents
>>78057655
I dig it.
>>78066099
oh, another person who saw that film? probably my all-time favorite film where not a single character wears pants.
also, Teegra is the hottest Western Cartoon female. Larn is a top tier Western Cartoon male, for that matter.
anyone know Western toons besides Thundarr that fit into this genre?
>>78057655
Its kind of a shame S&S animated movies never really became a thing, because as much as I enjoy Fire & Ice, it could be pretty sparse and underwhelming in certain parts. Yet it basically has to carry the entire genre on its back.
>>78065949
70s series was OK.
>>78068691
yeah, there could have been so much awesomeness but there was essentially none. well, at least we have the Berserk movies. Yes, that's S&S, no 2 ways about it
>>78068837
are you doing a story time?
>>78069298
any particular favorite moments or issues?
>>78058635
So conan is a low level reality warper?
>>78067072
Conan the Adventurer
>>78069423
Not that I can think of off the top of my head.
>>78067072
He-Man technically.
Anyone got the issue where Conan becomes a pimp and beats up Cap?
>>78072823
What if volume 1 #43
