Holy shit, this movie will have the most ham-fisted dialogue in the history of cinema

How do people expect it not to fail?

Holy shit a comic book movie with ham-fisted dialogue, stop the presses

Yes cape comics do. Fuck off for real. This is meant to be campy but serious and that's what DC comics should be.

Lex is a ham. It's his entire character. I know you're used to every bad guy being a quippy nonthreatening clone of the last, I mean you people unironically like Ultron, but DC villains actually have character.

1. It's a Batman movie
2. It's directed by Zach Snyder, creator behind great masterpieces such as 300 and In the Name of the King: a Dungeon Siege Tale
3. It's got lots of cgi, and it's marketed heavily

That's it. It will be a successful smash hit. Easily making back whatever money they spent on it, just like Transformers 2, or all three Fantastic Four movies.

Yes, this is shit. The flick on the head makes it worse
>If man won't kill god, the devil will do it!

>>
>>78026175
>it is quite literally an Easter egg for hardcore fans
It's a good egg but with shitty delivery. A good one, is Bats' pose on the side of the building mimicking DKR
>>
>>78025931
I am serious.

A lot of bad movies are commercially successful. Transformers 2 and the Fantastic Four movies are examples. Big summer block buster types are notorious for this. If you market a movie to teenage boys, they'll go see it no matter how bad it is, because they have no taste.
>>
>>78026066

>most ham-fisted dialogue in the history of cinema
more so than Avengers? I doubt it.
>>
>>78026048
>>78026065
The first one is question of certain logic and the second is validation of "psychotic"

In the first, psychotic is used in negative context, in the second it's implied to be positive.
>>
>>78026232
Avengers has mostly down to earth dialogue though. Do you understand the meaning of ham-fisted?
>>
>>78026244
No in the second one Lex is denying the traditional definition of it, saying that his plans only seem psychotic to idiots.
>>
>>78026272
>That my secret Cap I'm always angry
>All of Black Widow's dialogue in TWS
>Language!

>>
>>78026308
So you don't understand.
>>
>>78026272
Do you?
>>
>>78026308
What exactly is your definition of ham-fisted?
>>
>>78026326
All of those dialogue examples are ham fisted and cringey as fuck with poor delivery.
>>
>>78026333
A cringey dialogue that is delivered at an inappropriate time or makes little sense in the situation.
>>
>>78026345
You need a dictionary in your life
>>
>>78026130
Pretending to be retarded is the lowest form of bait, anon.
>>
>>78026209
>>78026209
Oh jeez you were serious

Okay first off, how is 300 a masterpiece? When have you ever heard anybody call 300 a masterpiece? In the Name of the King is one of the lowest rated movies ever made. Also that was directed by Uwe Boll and didn't make it's budget back at all

>and the Fantastic Four movies are examples
No they're not. Why do you think they rebooted in the first place? And FantFourStick very notably did not make it's budget back
>>
>>78026374
It's defined as awkward or clumsy. All of those dialogues are examples of that.

Let me guess, you're a brain dead idiot that loves TWS and hasn't ever seen a real political thriller like Munich?
>>
>>78026345
>>78026370
>using the word cringey when trying to give an objective definition
I didn't cringe, I just sighed.
>>
I still don't know why these lines are supposed to be ham-fisted. Somebody break it down for me.
>>
>>78026272
>there's only one God ma'am and he doesn't dress like that
>>
>>78026403
The OP doesn't like them, therefore those lines are bad.
>>
>>78026417
>I don't see how that's a party
>>
>>78026434
Why?
>>
>>78026370
Okay...you're half right at most, but just being "cringey" doesn't actually make something ham-fisted, you know? It has to be inorganic to the scene or otherwise forced.
>>
>>78026417
I'll never understand /co/'s issues with some of those lines. Particularly this one and "puny god". They're perfectly adequate in a silly cape movie, just like the whole campy dialogue between Spidey and Gobby in SM.
>>
>>78026446
Why is the dialogue in the Avengers movies so bad? I couldn't tell you.
>>
>>78026398
Boy, you are stupid. Awkward and clumsy is when used in physical context.

Ham-fisted dialogue is dialogue with a complete sense of discretion, and an authoritarian tense.
>>
>>78025621
>for this movie are exhibiting behaviors I haven't seen since Zutara and NaruSaku fangirls.
Clearly you weren't in the FantFourStick threads when the first trailers were coming out.
>>
>>78026395
All three Fantastic Four movies were commercially successful and made a profit. Same with 300 and all Uwe Boll movies.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fantastic_Four_in_film
>>
>>78026464
But why specifically that line?
>I don't see how that's a party
>>
>>78026458
I know for sure the "one god" and "I don't see how that's a party" are /tv/ memes.

The "Puny God" one is a line that's popular with normies so naturally /co/ hates it
>>
>>78026487
Fantastic Four 2015 didn't make a profit at all. The budget on Wikipedia is it's initial budget. It doesn't include the 20 million in reshoots which everybody knows about, nor advertising which can be as low as 10 to as high as 40 million.

Also, more importantly, they were expected FantFourStick to be a new franchise they could cross over with X-Men and have a sequel with but all that shit got pulled. That isn't what a success looks like
>>

They just aren't Luthor style of hamfisted. It's like DC are just trying to follow up on Ledger's style of villains trying to act as psychopaths sounding deep about morality, with a smirk. The delivery and dialogue isn't Luthor at all.

I had a dream last night about watching this movie in the future. I was with my cousin, there were two women that I knew in the dream but couldn't recognize them in real life. Outside of the usual dream innuendos, one woman having her bare feet tucked under my leg while the other used some of the lotion that was pinned between my thigh and the couch arm, making it hard to focus on them movie itself.

It was a bizarre dream, I think it mixed some of the Suicide Squad and I remember seeing a billboard of the Teen Titans (International?) there were so many of them too. Everything was exploding and it was real colourful, I can't remember any dialog besides Batman and Harley talking (I know she isn't in the movie, but this may even have been the sequel) so realistically, my dream state seems excited for the movie at least.

>producer on record saying lex has a transformation
>released picture of bald lex
>grant morrison recently put his take on golden age, where slob lex got pumped up and becem traditional lex

I don't know why comic fans are so averse to character growth. I love that shit. I like seeing Lex's world fall apart because he's no longer the best man in the room.

Because /co/ is full of casuals who don't read comics. Their knowledge of these characters is purely visual or based on out of context pages/panels they see other people post, so they just want them to already be at that point with no character development.

What exactly is "ham-fisted dialogue"?

Can someone give me the short version?
>>
>>78043601
Statements that don't fit organically within the context they are presented.

Like trying to throw in a quote of something to sound smart when the conversation really doesn't provide an opening for that quote.

aren't most comic villains hamfisted as fuck?

the genre is not known for its subtlety

isn't lex a blowhard who likes hearing himself talk anyway
>>
>>78025129
>THE FOCUSED TOTALITY OF MY CASUAL POWER!
>>
>>78043773
No, even outlandish opinions can still be relevant to the context they are presented in and fit in with the book. There's nothing wrong with breaking the norm or being politically incorrect.

But if the dialogue within a page breaks flow and starts off into a speech that either doesn't need to be given or is out of place, that's an example of "ham-fisted" writing.

Or when a writer breaks character to use them as an outlet for their own opinions. Like say Batman explaining in the middle of a fight his socio-economic ideas about how to help the lower class.

I don't think OP's examples are good really. Considering three of them are the same person and it appears that Luthor's character is meant to be this odd ball that likes to grand stand. If it was you or me saying those lines in a normal context, that would be cringe worthy but given what we've seen of Luthor they are an example of his character.
>>
>>78043109
Bendis?
>>
>>78043911
They'd really be in character for any version of Luthor out of context

>Soliloquy style sentence on why Superman is actually evil
>Pretentious justification for his actions
>Actually this one is just kind of a weak line
>Comic lex would say this if he got them to fight to the death
>>
>>78025129
>has never read Claremont
>>
>>78025129
If Lee or Claremont wrote this script you'd literally have characters giving monologues about almost anything they're doing
>Batman in the Batmobile
>>HAHA! I've activated my Kryptonite Rays to slow this big lunk down. With the flick of this switch *KLIK* I'll activate the transistors in my power armor and be ready for a one on one match with this flying monkey!
>>
>>78043635
So in that case none of the OPs examples are ham-fisted and he's just a moron.
>>
>>78044554
ding ding ding
>>
>>78044642
This crusade against DC is weird.
>>
>>78044684
While I hate to throw out the term "Autistic" i think that plainly describes what the OP is. Someone who can't contextualize speech patterns or a an individuals character.

Yes, Luthor's dialogue is very very odd. That's the fucking point. But because it's not quips or plane language the immediate response is "LOL OMG HOW AWFUL IS THIS WRITING" when it's just the reverse.

Jesse Eisenberg plays these sorts of roles perfectly and the trailers really capture the "likes to hear himself speak" side of Lex.

And then you just have people who don't give a damn and like to shitpost repeat the "meme" ad-nauseum like we had with the "Man of Murder" BS.

The moral extremes may screw with DC's writing, I mean fuck they've literally painted Supes as Jesus Christ, would you like to go full out /pol/ with the immoral shitfest that is the Bible?

Otherwise from a moviegoer standpoint, will DC have eye-candy like Iron Man suiting up and such?
https://youtu.be/uy6zdEbxjuU
At best I can only think Bats on occasion jumping into a new toy that he bought, and maybe a HUD for Cyborg.
Or will all the CG be for the bad guys? Since some think the cave troll will evolve more spiky parts.
>>
>>78045452
The eye-candy is Supes fighting and flying, and Bats' tech and him grappling shit. That and Wondy's boobs bouncing.

There's really no place for it because in DC, the consequences of an action are always given more importance than the action itself.
>>
>>78045209
>Implying literally anyone is supposed to be "right" in TDKR
Honestly I can't fathom what gets into people's heads where they think that writing must be the explicit beliefs of the author.

I doubt we'll see much bouncing boobs since they gave her a skirt, should have been short shorts if they really wanted to make men drool or something. Think they're trying to avoid SJW backlash, though I guess they kind of did it with Harley, the obvious out being she's more villain than hero, I take it they're trying to put SS as anti-heros?

Not just us, everyone is basically going to go over it with a magnifying glass and such because it is DC's challenge to the MCU after having many examples of what they should or shouldn't do and such. And years to develop.
Guardians was something of an experiment, don't think Marvel was quite expecting it to become stupendously popular, just needed to explain the Infinity Stones a bit more.

Something that works in a comic doesn't neccesarily work in film.

And in this case, yes, it really is bad.
>>
>>78050676
What makes it work in comics that doesn't exist in film?
Its either all bad and you're excusing it because you're a comic fanboy or an idiot that doesn't know what they're talking about.
There's nothing wrong with hammy dialogue. "its comics!" isn't an excuse. You can dislike it, but that doesn't make it bad.
>>
>>78030189
With more respect than is due, what the fuck did you think was going to happen?
You guys kept going on and on about how DC's movies were deep and serious auteral works. How they were realistic epics and grounded and certainly weren't full of quips and memes, but were legitimate masterpieces of film with meaningful themes and social commentary. You wanted people to treat Man of Steel like a big boy film instead of the mediocre capeshit blockbuster it was.

Autists wanted DC movies to be treated as if they were of a higher standard and get mad when they're held to that standard and can't slum it without being called on it.

I really like how melodramatic Lex seems about all of this.
It's like he actually thinks he's as awesome and legendary as Batman and Superman, even though he's obviously not.
Eisenberg looks real hateable too, it's gonna be satisfying to watch him get clocked by the Bats.

There can be character development in capeshit.
