First, assuming the year is roughly ~2000AD, the arrival of gems was actually after some cultures had decent writing - so not Prehistoric. Gems would have arrived right at the end of the Neolithic, and the Gem War would have stretched into the early Bronze Age.

Second, the year may actually be significantly later than 2000AD. The Gem war pretty badly fucked up the entire planet, and killed a lot of humans.Given that Pearl talks about learning to be a knight from humans during the War, and Greg mentions that humans fought in the War, it could have started as late as the Middle Ages.

If the war (and the things it left behind) were really bad, Humans could have taken a very long time to put civilization back together. So a current date as late as 6500AD isn't completely impossible.

One can assume that Rose Quartz was leader of the pink Diamond faction because she seems far more important than a plain soldier who rebelled against the gem homeworld.

The quartz are the soldiers either built as commanders, tacticians, footsoldiers and healers. This would where amethyst would be if she wasn't overcooked. Also Jasper.

Pearls are servants given to the highest ranking gems.

We have the scientists like Peridot doing the researching and building equipments.

Then we have the terraformers like Lapiz, Ruby, Sapphire designed for planets of different types of environments, allowing them to shape them into something the gems can live on.

The way I think it's going to happen, Sugilite will fight Malachite under heavy rain, and do some damage, but Malachite's water chains are overpowered.
Malachite grabs Sugilite from behind, taunts her, and calls her "sister", before Sugilite's arms get ripped off by water chains, reverting her to exhausted single Gems.
Pearl is horrified but Steven won't let her give up, as they try a fusion dance out of desperation, Malachite pounding on Steven's bubble.
It works, Rainbow Quartz 2.0 emerges, with a male voice and body, and finishes the fight.
Malachite is poofed, with Jasper's gem shown to have shards stuck to the back. The rain stops immediately.
Then RQ starts acting strangely, saying he feels Rose inside him, and "I'm never letting you go" in the same tone Lapis said it.
Garnet comes back and orders Pearl to stop being so thirsty and stop treating fusion like a game, what the hell they talked about this like a month ago. Steven and Pearl separate.
This will all be happening in the middle of Peridot's redemption arc, so she takes the opportunity to pick up Jasper's gem and run away.
Lapis gets bubbled. To hell with her. A follow-up episode to Chille Tid will have shown her as an unreasonable psycho with less chance of redemption than Jasper.

I hate the lips in this show. They're fucking horrid. There are many ways to render thick lips and they chose the fucking second worst available. The only way they could make it worse is by using Erica Henderson's faces.
