I've seen Ryan Cecil Smith's SF #3, his Koyama Press debut, in a few shelf/recent purchases threads since that book came out, so I know we have some at least A FEW RCS fans on this board! So, I thought I'd storytime some of his "supplemental" material to the series (to be read right-to-left, "manga style", just in case any Anon's were unaware or got confused/aren't manga readers). In this case I'm storytiming books 1-3 (or A, B and C as they're called) of "Storytelling of the Future"--which according to the cover is an homage (maybe an outright copy? Any knowledgeable manga heads reading?) of Matsumoto Leiji's "Queen Emereldas".
Hope everyone is having/had a good day, and I hope at least some of you enjoy this beautifully drawn, risograph-printed piece of self-published dopeness.
Pages 1 & 2, I think these comix work really well as double-page spreads a la Santoro's theories.

BTW the dialogue box is cut off a bit in my copy, it's not a scanning error.
And book 2, sorry "B". Anyone familiar with the work of Matsumoto Leiji? Wasn't gonna post this on the anime/manga board 'cause it's a North American cartoonist's work--even though it is a take on an original manga. I have Ryan Cecil Smith's "Two Eyes of the Beautiful", which is great and adapted from a prior manga.
Anyway, book 2, I mean B, book B!!!

17 & 18... I think this double-page splash is just brilliant, how the colour suddenly cuts to the first use of black in the book....I know risographs are all the rage at the moment but damn if it wouldn't be great to print my new mini on one!!!

Dunno, I've never seen 'em, these are from my own collection bought directly from RCS. I have SF issues #1 and #2 and a couple of other SF-related bits as well as his manga re-draws.
And hey, thanks for commenting, felt like I was shouting into an empty gave, there! Cheers, Anon!

Pages 29 & 30...love the colour choice and the splash page in general
Good shit anon, thank you for storytiming this!

Ayyo, thanks so much! (It's vollsticks/stix by the way, never post anonymously on here mate!) really glad you're enjoying it. if you're in the states he's self-published loads more great new stuff that's cheap, very good, and the postage won't cost you the Earth...unlike us Britbongs, sadface....I'll hafta re-mortgage the fuckin' house to re-stock on non-Brit self-pubb'd stuff!
Pages 33 and 34...and that's it for volume B. Fuck it, I'm just gonna call it number two. Gonna have a quick cigarette and crop the rest of issue three then will start posting again, for those based Anons lurking/commenting. Thanks /co/mrades!
That was indeed beautiful - I don't really know how I feel about the story yet though. Feels like a piece you need to read and reread first.
i mean I never post anonymously on here, I wasn't telling YOU not to! Just reread it and it seemed like that was what I meant, sorry Anon!
>>7793097 Cecil Smith is a REAL craftsman. Will post last issue in a few minutes. As I say I dunno how closely it hews to the original manga but I know what you mean...it's certainly very decompressed, innit?
Gawd I need a BM now....gimme ten minutes or so please folks! Thanks!
sorry that>>77931134 was meant for >>77930979
you, Anon!
Don't mind me, best (but unfortunately last) issue coming through!

52 & 53....and that, my fellow co/mrades, is that. If you enjoyed this, PLEASE try to support Ryan Cecil Smith (and any other self-publishers you dig!) by buying their comix from them, you can get , say, 3 comics for the price of one Big Two with most self-pubbers--but RCS is, to me, a singular talent who is one of the best of his generation. I hope those who read DID enjoy it...if there's enough interest (i.e comments!) will post the SF self-published stuff over the weekend...have a good one, /co/mrades, and take a chance on those in the medium purely for LOVE, not money....please? Okay, off soapbox....
This is the kind of shit I like to see on /co/! Thank you vollstix!
vollstix you're one of the best around
Thank you.
Last bump from me.

It's an outright copy I think. I remember him saying he couldn't reprint it because he got in trouble for it. Though he reprinted Two Eyes of the Beautiful just fine and that was him redoing a Kazuo Umezu story.
Oh also apparently Kodansha's gonna publish Queen Emereldas in english officially next year. Which is kinda weird.
