I've been thinking.
Cody, receives order 66 and orders a nearby artillery gun to blast Kenobi. Leading to his supposed death and Cody walks off satisfied.

But, Cody never double checks for a body or even sends out other clones to check for him. Doesn't Order 66 force the Clones to make sure they killed their targets? Also according to the Last Padawan comic series some of the clones actually felt remorseful a few years down the track.

In short; Did Cody actually intend to kill Obi Wan, was he just uncharacteristicically lazy, or am I overthinking this.

I'm not sure how thorough Order 66 makes the Clones. It seems to put them in a controlled, Jedi-killing frenzy while they talk about how "good soldiers follow orders". Given the brainwashy nature of it, simply getting Kenobi out of every clone's line of sight via attempted murder might have been enough to get them back to their senses. Note how much of a hurry they all are to leave Utapau.

In the Campaign after committing order 66 (I'm running from memory here) the 501st (or whatever clone unit you where playing as) get sent to Kamino, because the Cloners get wind of events and start cloning their own oppositional army rather than continue to provide the Empire with soldiers. Anyways, in the end the Imperial clones blow up the cloning facility and kill all the Cloners, the problem is that a lot of the imperial clones are killed and now it's near impossible to make new ones. The empire does have something that resembles the cloning process but the new clones aren't nearly as good as the old ones. Instead Sheev just kind of awkwardly coughs and decides that the whole thing was a mistake and turns the Clone Legions into his honour guard, or units he can call on to get shit done.

Because once their usefulness ran out in helping to secure his Empire, Sheev wanted to get rid of the clones. As far as the Emperor was concerned, he didn't need an army that might try disobey his orders because it was the right thing to do. We don't know for sure whether or not that is still canon, since we have a gap between the end of ROTS and the first (timeline-wise) of the new books, which is a good few years afterwards. It of course could be altered in any way to make it more appealing and to work with canon, but whatever.

Believe it or not, it's an upgrade. Most B-1s remodeled for the Confederacy were built to operate independently of a central control system, which was shown to be a crippling weakness for them in TPM, and continued to be one in a few TCW episodes where control programs were used again (there's a tactical advantage to networking them all to a single hive mind, even if it's also a huge risk if it gets destroyed). This new independence for them gives them the same personality quirks as droids like Artoo and Threepio, and the high-pitch is just a symptom of the design change. Anyone else fucking hyped for all the new short stories coming out in the next week? Tomorrow we have pic related. Then in a week we're getting Tales from a Galaxy Far Far Away. Then on the day TFA comes out we're getting some stories about Rey, Finn, and Poe's lives before TFA in Before the Awakening. I'm going to have so much backstory going into TFA. It's going to be weird seeing a new Star Wars movie knowing about most of the characters beforehand.

So I was looking up shit on the Jedi in canon and apparently one way to become a Master is for a Knight to train a Padawan into Knighthood. They also make a note to say that Knights generally go out on missions, so I'm assuming Masters normally stay on Coruscant. This probably changed during the Clone Wars, but I'm assuming the Masters got more time home since they had to actually keep the Jedi in order. I'm thinking the reason Anakin wanted to be a Master so bad was because he wanted to be with Padme more as she was having his child. When he heard that he would be on the council, but not a Master he probably assumed that meant they were going to keep sending him to fight the Clone Wars since they thought he needed more training so he used the excuse that he was insulted by this since he had trained Ahsoka to try to plead his case that he should stay on Coruscant with Padme more. Since we know in TCW that the Jedi knew about Anakin and Padme, we can assume they knew what he was trying to do and that was the reason why they didn't make him a Master.

Training a padawan probably helps, but I don't think doing so is a one way ticket to becoming a master. If so, I suspect there'd be more masters than knights, and that's not how a hierarchy/chain of command works.

Episode 1 is the most meticulous clock, so to speak. George put the most thought into the story and the world-building and all of the intricate little details even if the plot itself comes across as incredibly convoluted.

I heard someone here say that Episode 2 feels like two movies and they aren't wrong. Obi-Wan basically progresses the galactic plot by himself while Anakin and Padme are on their own for most of the film to progress the Anakin plot until they need to go help Obi-Wan and hook back into the main plot. The romance stuff basically seems to have been scripted on auto-pilot and the only good parts of the Anakin plot really come from the situation with his mom, not the Padme stuff.

Neither of them warrant the hate they get though. The plotting can be pretty dense and the acting rather hamfisted but there are far worse movies out there.

But I don't blame you. Episode 1 is a stupidly dense movie.

Essentially the Federation is just a puppet for Palpatine, who is pushing them into making a mess on Naboo that will allow him an opportunity to seize the Chancellor's office. He picks Naboo because it's his homeworld and should garner him a sizeable sympathy vote.

Sidious anticipates the Queen, a pacifist, will simply comply with the Federation and create an obvious problem that can't legally be dealt with immediately, thus sinking the senate into further debate so he can finger the Chancellor as the problem.

But he doesn't know that the Jedi have been secretly dispatched to settle the conflict. He orders them killed because he's worried they will solve the conflict before it even happens, and doesn't anticipate that the Jedi will convince the Queen to escape with them and return to Naboo. He dispatches Darth Maul for two reasons: First, to return the Queen. Second, as a warning to the Jedi.

But he also has a plan B should the Jedi return with the Queen, and that is convincing her to call for a vote of no confidence. Presumably he doesn't think this will succeed which is why he didn't try it in the first place, but she winds up playing right into his hands and getting him what he wants even faster than he had anticipated.

Now the part I'm still confused by is why he's so insistent that she remain, and why he then sends Darth Maul yet again to kill her on Naboo after he's already been nominated for Chancellor. Perhaps to ensure his election? Ultimately losing Maul is the only real setback Palpatine experiences and that's his fault. Everything else went better than expected.

Anyway point is there's quite a lot more at stake than the immediate threat of the Naboo invasion, which is why the movie is titled The Phantom Menace.

Well in George's defense I would argue that TPM IS enjoyed by children, but often times because of the things people hate about it, like Anakin and Jar-Jar. I think his goal was to create a visual spectacle homaging ANH that everyone would enjoy on the surface (The Naboo plot) while having a lot of dense political stuff to chew on for the adults (the sinister, secretive Palpatine plot),

Didn't work out so well obviously. That's what happens when George doesn't have a filter I think. He needs people like Kirshner and Kasdan to translate his ideas into something the audience can easily digest.

Still, I appreciate the overall story itself and many of the ideas behind it and I don't think the movie deserves the hate it gets. It's just pure Lucas, all of his best attributes and all of his worst attributes in full force. Either you accept it and enjoy the good stuff or you don't.

The Jedi are ded m8. It's all about neo-Jedi teaching to let force sensitives pretend to be Jedi while they can't be real ones. Kanan also stopped being a real Jedi as a Padawan, so there's room for error.

I imagine he wanted to show that the office of the Supreme Chancellor still had a considerable amount of executive power even in the bureaucratic vacuum Valorum occupied by solving the Naboo crisis through the legislative process, thus finally hammering the final nail of Valorum's "incompetence" in the face of procedure in the coffin. Remember, he was moments away from winning the vote and as impending incumbent he needed to break the corporate-controlled paralysis of the Senate ASAP. Amidala's returning to Naboo to wage war against the Trade Federation could have undermined the reinvigorated Senate's proceedings from then on, as Amidala, who insisted the Senate into action, was suddenly about to take action herself. As Sidious, he needed the Trade Federation to get the treaty signed so he could indeed expose and make official the paralysis of the Senate in the face of corporate interest. Funnily enough, Amidala's fighting the Trade Federation worked for Palpatine in the end, as it showed that military perseverance could thrive in the absence or dysfunction of representative democracy. Which was exactly what the Clone Wars and the establishment of the militaristic and security-obsessed Empire set out to achieve.

Naboo was basically the template for Palpatine's tenure as crisis manager in chief, and served as the initial model - with the many political mishaps of the Clone Wars being the major example - of the failings of massive representative democracy. The CIS would have resulted had things happened either way, because I imagine several other corporate interests would try to emulate the Trade Federation's actions, only for the Jedi and the Senate to intervene in what looks to be business as usual.

It's an incredibly convoluted plan just from watching the movie and taking in the basic information, but if you sit down and pick things apart, it's really intriguing

I think what makes people say a lot of these plans in movies are convoluted and rely to much on luck make the mistake of assuming that what was scene is the only way a plan could have gone down.

Like you said, Sheev didn't even want things to play out quite like they did, but managed to spin events in his favor regardless. Had many things gone down differently, he likely would have had measures in place to for those eventualities.

See, the Dark Side isn't necessarily a cancer by itself. It's become a cancer through the Sith's manipulation of its nature. It's as part of the Force as everything else is because it's composed of the other things that make us human - the things we have to temper and control and put into moderation. The Sith found a power in this and exploited it for their own gain and turned it into something it never really was meant to be, hence its becoming a "cancer" of sorts. All cancers were normal, functioning cells until their growth became abnormal and harmful.
