>Character spends the nearly the entire film/series with a certain design.
>Design is changed radically near the end.
>They don't even get to spend any time to even echo the personality they had in the old form.
>Audience is supposed to immediately shift all their their involvement and emotion to this new character design for an emotional finale.

Does it bother anyone else when this happens? Like, I know logically its the same character, but subconsciously I just can't empathize with them the same way without getting used to them all over again.
>>
most people don't want the beast they want the end product (The Handsome Prince) thats what they've wanted the entire time and its what they got
>>
Nobody likes the prince, his design is ghastly
>>

Hell no. All my female friends wanted him to change back. Doesn't help that human prince looks like a dumb fuck.
>>
>>77524995
over the last 15 years or so this has been utterly abandoned. nowadays appearances are kept rigidly consistent, even down to outfits that should logically change (rapunzel starts out dressed as a princess)
so basically fuck you. it's your fault, and what you're complaining about does not happen anymore
>>
>>77525697
Tiana had like 9 outfits. And Anna gets marketed with her coronation outfit almost as often as the mountaineering dress.

For real though. For a beast, he was handsome. Even as a 5-year old boy watching this movie for the first time, seeing the prince was a disgusting disappointment. I'm glad in he was never shown again and they always use the Beast in official works.

At the ending of the original story, Belle wants him to change back.

Disney was going to use this ending for the movie, but cut it for unknown reasons.

The one thing about beauty and the beast at the end was after the beast does his drastic transformation belle looks at him and looks at his eyes.
Its JUST a close up of his eyes and slightly furry eyebrows and she goes "IT IS YOU!".
Doesn't help he went from a beast to a handsome bland faced blonde guy, giving him a few rougher features like stubble or a goatee to make him look more like his former self would've made him more recognizable. He only changed and turned out completely clean shaven.

I never really understood this movie.
I mean what is the moral of the story?
Stay with someone who is an asshole to you because you can probably change him?
>>
>>77524995
Beast was a super strong man-animal who could take down an entire pack of wolves. Then he became some forgettable Calvin Klein model with no recognizable traits. It's like if the Hulk turned back into Bruce Banner permanently.

The beast wasn't an asshole, he was just a fluffybuns who needed love

most women don't realize not every guy is a fluffybuns. the movie made it clear pretty quick the beast wasn't an asshole by nature, just disgruntled about his life situation. gaston was the asshole by nature.

>>

I do not remember that in the translation of Beaumont's version.
>>
>>77524995

Shrek had a better ending, but Beauty and the Beast was far more impressive as far as the actual animation/visuals.
>>
>>77530419
If he looked too gruff and beastly as a human, that would defeat the point of the transformation, that he was a completely different person underneath the beast. That's why he's clean shaven and even has a lighter hair color, to juxtapose with the beast version. He was supposed to be attractive, princely, civilized looking, and more boyish. But they fucked it up by not spending enough time making sure his human form was pretty.

I agree that we needed more time getting to know the human prince version of the beast to see he was the same guy, though. In his brief scene as a human, he doesn't even act the same, at all.

But you realize, perhaps this is the intention. The Beast is the person you all love and in doing so you have all come to realize you could love a Beast, and the moment you make this realization is when you're a presented with a prince and exclaim that's fucking dumb I want Beast.
>>
>>77535171
This. Generally the people spouting
>muh stockholm syndrome the movie!
don't seem to get that Gaston is there to represent a guy trying to entrap Belle in an actually abusive relationship.

Beast did keep Belle a prisoner, but only because Maurice had been his prisoner first. And he'd imprisoned Maurice because he was a nobleman that had been wronged and needed to do it as a matter of honor, and also so he could remain in hiding. But then, also as a matter of honor, he had to trade prisoners because someone else had volunteered, and it was just by coincidence she happened to be hot. He had never wanted to imprison Belle, certainly never tried to brainwash her. And although he could have done the merciful thing and let Maurice go, he probably thought he was making the right decision locking him up, and after he changed over the events of the film I doubt he'd have made that kind of choice again.

Beast isn't in a relationship with her until he realizes his own goodness because he loves her.

Saying he's an abusive spouse is stupid. He was a callous person, but not deep inside.

BATB is probably the most poorly-animated Disney Studios film.

Especially noticeable in the mob song:

>>77539380
I can see that point, but he's still pretty ugly. Like I'm pretty sure people would still be asking "why is he so ugly?" even if we got a princess movie where that was the prince's design start to finish. And it was kind of important that the prince in a Beauty and the Beast film at least be pretty at the end.
>>
>>77539306
I wonder if the black silhouettes were laziness or a design choice. Also it appearas a part of the background goes missing in the lower left corner at 0:07.

Other than that, I'd say it looks like pretty standard fare for early Renaissance Disney.

Originally, at the end of the movie Belle was supposed to ask the Prince if he'd ever thought of growing a beard, but the line was cut.

Agreed.

>>77539590
There's way more held frames than any other Disney movie, and some of the animation is just really wonky and unnatural, almost Wand of Gamelon-esque. Like Gaston's movements at the very beginning or around the 30 second mark.
