In episode 4 he is the one who pushes Eric to be the top Yelper (rewatch the episode, when Cartman is down, Butters cheers him up and makes him believe he can make it. Also he fuels Cartman's ego from the beginning).


He is the one who tells the main group that Token and Kenny are playing ninjas in episode 7, so that they join.

In episode 6 he is always first in line watching the Tweek+Craig romance, he's the only one to speak when they break up, and at the end of the episode, among the couples of South Park, we see him and Caroline.

In episode 2 he met Caroline and had his own B plot.

In "Safe Space" he is the fulcrum of the story, and that's when he breaks his neck (as visible in the following episodes), while he runs around naked rambling that "The World is Darkness", about The Man who shadows him everywhere (Reality, probably, but might otherwise be an omen of things to come).

I don't know.
It's probably nothing, but aside from all weird speculation one thing is sure: he broke his neck (which the OP didn't mention) and he met Caroline, who is now back in Canada, yet they're still in contact.

Also Reverend Maxi is in the background of almost every episode (bringing the adults to attack City Wok in episode 3, blessing Yelpers in episode 4) and despite his screen time he hasn't done much yet. He's also on board with everything the town does.

What does /co/ think of South Park's first season? I've been watching it and finding it quite boring. I can see why Matt and Trey don't like the early episodes much.

It's certainly a different kind of humor.
I seem to recall it picks up pretty quickly though.
Also it doesn't help that they are old episodes: they introduce the concept of a character and you've known him for years so there's no novelty to it.
The fact that Chef is a weird Chef that sings about sex to children is funny when you see it for the first time, nowadays as soon as you see him on screen you know what he's going to do. And the same goes for Mister Garrison's horrible teaching, the bus driver being a terrible person and so on.

South Park episodes shine in the year they are made.

They retain a certain immortality, but not all the magic is there.

I personally like it, there's kind of a charm to it. It's when Matt and Trey were more or less experimenting to see what worked and what didn't. The kids acted more like kids (though don't get me wrong, I don't have a hate-boner for the episodes where they don't act like kids, hell I've enjoyed a fair amount of those) and the characters weren't fully established yet. It's a bit like The Simpsons, I guess. Not everyone seemed to enjoy Season 1, though I've re-watched it very recently and while I'll agree it's kind of a weak season (though obviously a hell of a lot better than the shit they make now), It definitely had its moments.
