"The Monster" is gonna be a nice rollercoaster. Been a bit since we had some proper action going on. Plenty of that this issue, as well as a slight code towards the end which isn't hard to figure out but people might like. Emotions are gonna run wild, people are getting angry.

I'm happy. Starts Friday.
How you guys doing?

>Update archives
Yeah, been meaning to do that. Maybe later today. Most of our hits come from tapastic now, so I can openly admit I lost focus on updating those archives.

I'll get it done by Friday at the latest. Should be getting around to getting a new site in a month or two as well, one that's a bit nicer than a tumblr.

Here's a rough sketch from the little "Social Media" side-project we're doing with the Sisters.

A point to anyone who can decipher the costumes.
>>
>>77363942
>Most of our hits come from tapastic now, so I can openly admit I lost focus on updating those archives.

I've been meaning to get onto that as well, perhaps once I finish uploading the entirety of the current chapter on my own site
How intuitive is it? I tend to be rather inept with social media, I tend get around but I always find it frustrating when learning how to post/upload on a new site

Also minor dialogue mistake I noticed as I was catching up on your comic: on your Oct 22 update, Handsome Dan says "Your sister's been trying been trying to reach you [...]". Not really a big deal, but I figured maybe I'd want to know if if you ever have the time to fix it

Yes. Table 124 in New Dock Hall. With a new comic out if everything goes smoothly:

> Sending issue #3 of comic to printers; Copy&Paste and edit old email. 3 weeks should be plenty of time.
> Forget about it for a week.
> Send reminder email to printers as haven't heard back properly yet.
> Printer tells me the link to download the file doesn't work.
> It's for issue #1.
> Send link to issue #3.
> Printer sends back a pdf for checking.
> I sent them a link to the wrong version of issue #3.
> Send back link to right version of issue #3, telling them to discard the previous one.
> Printer sends back a pdf for checking.
> It's all good, give them the green light to proceed.
> Now we wait.

I'm fairly confident that my printer will come through, as he specialises in printing comics, regularly visits comic conventions, and will personally deliver to people's tables at the con if necessary (as he did with issue #2 at last year's Thought Bubble). Ideally I'll have it by Thursday morning so I can check and prep them properly, but as long as I get them for the con it'll be OK.

If you're a UK anon who hasn't been to Thought Bubble, then seriously consider going. Unlike other "comic" conventions which are really pop culture multi-media affairs, TB really is all about the comics.
>>
>>77363989
Ah jeeze. That is embarrassing. I'll see that gets patched up.
Tapastic is pretty intuitive. Just hit preview to make sure your pages are in the right order and all's good. I enjoy the scroll-to-read, it is a nice feature.

>>
>>77367735

I really think some of you non-native English speakers really need a native speaker to proofread your dialogue a bit before you post some of these pages.

I mean, this isn't too bad really, but over all it feels kinda clunky.

In your second panel, the first box you have "Lufty" I'm assuming you mean "Lofty." In the box right next to it

>None of it seen real to me

I assume you mean "seems" or "seemed." Seemed is probably what you're looking for, but you continually switch from past tense to present tense, so I am not totally sure which you are going for.

Also, the cluster of boxes about halfway down, starting with

>You didn't merely influence these artifacts

The five dialogue boxes are a little cramped. I actually wasn't totally sure at first which box I was supposed to read next. You might want to find a way to try to space that out a little better.

Minor thing, but I'm also not totally sure why you suddenly switch from boxes with tails to more rounded bubbles.

I mean, the story overall makes sense, and it is reasonably interesting, and your art, as usually is pretty sweet too, so...just some thoughts.

>>
>>77368474

There's no need to facepalm. I feel like it is about 85~90% of the way to where it needs to be.

I understand what is going on (that's the important thing) and the dialogue is more interesting and better than some of the other non-natives here, it just seems a little stilted in some areas.

Hey, illustration looks smooth and the character designs overall are relatable. Pretty good! I especially like the stylization you got going on in there.
>>
I have a couple of questions.

I had an idea for a character who can control time, and he would use this power to stop people in time, maybe accelerate time as well.

But whats a good way to show off that someone is frozen in time? Seems like its hard to pull off in a comic, since pictures don't move anyway.

Also I had this other idea for a comic, its going to feature robots versus Kaijus

Only thing is its humans actually turning into the robots to fight monsters.

Has this been done before? I was thinking they could be sort of organic or maybe magical robots.

But I don't quite know yet how to make this work.

>>
>>77369134
>whats a good way to show off that someone is frozen in time?

An utter absence of motion lines for one; also no speech or thought balloons.
Holding the same static pose for several consecutive panels. Particularly if they were mid-step, or jumping, or otherwise off balance when it happened.
They drop something at the moment they're frozen, and it's suspended in time/mid-air with them (especially if it's a liquid).
>>
>>77362811

I have this idea I've been kicking around for a while but will never do cause i have no talent.

People with various super powers exist but none of them to an over powered degree. To put it in context something like "Spiderman" would be overall stronger than any of the people with special abilities in this world and mind control/mind reading does not exist either (that is key).

So the plot is this. Of the few people that have these abilities the government decides "why not use them and make them special agents for us to help with disasters, crime, ect". The identities are of course kept topic secret per usual as are the powers of each as much as possible.

Anyway like I said these characters are not over powered and to try to reduce the issue of them dying on the job they are offered side kicks. These are not people with powers but people who went to special training academies. Often Ivy league recruits to even get in. Each person is different but generally they excel at security, weaponry and such.

After an applicant graduates they can choose to work for a hero.

Anyway the plot is this. A side kick that graduated just about top of his class has been working with one of the most successful, powerful and loved heros in the country for the past 5 years or so. He is one of the only people that knows the full details of his powers, personal life, ect. He even invented some things himself to great effect and is seen one of the true geniuses among his peers.

He walks in one morning to the secret base noticing all the security is down and doors unlocked and finds the hero dead in a bloody mess on the floor.

He calls the organization to inform them of this and an investigation immediately starts. Soon he is treated like the lead suspect as all the evidence points to him. However, some things he knows about this hero are not so squeaky clean and he starts his own investigation to clear his name before it is too late.

but seeing that it's gonna be from the POV of a sidekick, that intrigues me

>>
>>77368076
You did! Although I said I basically don't use it, its mostly for family overseas. I also ask if you want to talk about anything specific, but the tread die.

>>77368389
Hey thanks man, this is really helpful. Although getting friend to look over your things... I don't know, sometimes I feel like I am bothering people. Posting in the thread usually means people only reply because they wanted to. Although I could ask friends who I collaborated with to help out.

>>77368160
Hm, the reason I put them on the storyboard and sketches, is so I can either trim them or move them around, or to change the art to accommodate it. Just something that is easier to see when its on the page. I am not page by page with this, so I can and trim or add pages if I feel like it needed it.
>>
>>77369796

Thank you. The world does become important though and plays a big part in the plot.

I guess I will spoil it since i won't write it every do the comic anyway :P

First he and the government go through the list of enemies the hero has but none of them did it and that can be proven. The side kick then turns to his personal life and talked to a female super hero he knows the deceased was having an affair with but that seems like a dead end.

However at this point his own personal investigation is brought to a halt when he himself is brought in for questioning. The report comes back that all the security was properly in place. No one broke in. Therefore whoever did the killing had to know all about the security system in place. That is something only those at the very top of this organization and the hero/sidekick should know. Also physical evidence at the crime scene points to him. He knows he is about to be arrested and uses a device he made to escape though with great difficulty.

Man hunt is on and he is America's most wanted over night. More to come.

Now he is suspect
>>
>>77369796

Now he is suspect #1 :P

He grabs gear from his secret stash and uses it to go into hiding trying to investigate what really happened. First he looks into the organization and after finding several seedy problems but nothing that leads to a who actually killed him. Anyone long story short...

It was the side kick of the super hero the dead hero was having an affair with. the female super hero knew the security cause they would sneak in there to actually have the affair sometimes and her side kick learned in from following her in secret. She was in love with her and hoped killing him would make it possible for them to be together somehow. Doesn't work out. She almost kills female super hero too but the side kick saves the day and also exposes the organization after for covering up details of the murder for various reasons.

Female side kick goes to the mad house and he is able to continue his post once more as a side kick but decides not to cause the system sucks and is broken and goes into doing hero duty himself to great success.

Lazy artist-less writer here.

Which should I check and ask for reviews first, characters or storylines?
I feel that once you have your characters and themes nailed down the plot comes naturally.
>>
>>77375094
In my experience as a writer, characters and storylines develop hand in hand. You come up with the basics for the characters, and then the stories start to come naturally, and as you explore those stories, the characters grow from their experiences, and with this new character growth you can discover more stories to write, and so on and so forth. It's a wonderful cycle.

>>
>>77380307
Narrow down your workload by figuring out the location and rough period of influence you'll be writing about.
Watch documentaries about the time and place, and any other places or points with significant influence on it.

The rest technically does itself since anyone familiar with history can just fill in the gaps with a few swift references made on your part, trust me it's better to simply mention X politician or Y monarch doing this or that at the time in passing than to try to write that event as a scene and butcher it with unnatural characterization. This way anyone who has their own interpretation of the figures of the time will do the imagining for you instead of being put off that you see one person or another in a certain positive or negative light.

This is a kind of strange piece of advice but I also find it helps to forget what time period you're writing in, your characters come off more natural if they're not doing that thing Bojack made a joke about where they're always reminding the audience what specific time period it is by talking a certain way or some other such forced narrative. A reference to an existing person isn't so bad since it could be relevant to the character's associates, but talking about some specific event like it's already happened and the significance is from a modern view is off putting. For example a documentary I watched made it known to me that at the time no one knew during the first World War that it would be as long or problematic as it was, we do so we can wax on about that, but a character at the time would most likely just be baffled as the people at the time were with the unfolding events. Hell, they even got used to it eventually so really it's only because we look back from our world now do we have the reaction we do.

tl;dr forget you're writing history and just write in the moment.

Hey I just defeated writer's block yesterday and I did it by forcing myself to continue this one scene by writing something awful that would advance the plot but over-explain everything, but it helped because all I had to do after that was turn the dialogue a bit more natural and deleted some of the over-explaining and what I was left with was a scene that was clear and took the story forward.

Writing is hard bro. There's been times where I've sat in front of a layout for an hour without laying my pencil on the paper because I didn't know how to write the scene I wanted without it dragging for three times the intended length.

>>
>>77385231
Yeah there's times when writing is easier. But I think writing is all about learning the steps to get in to the zone no matter how uninspired one feels at the moment. It's a skill that can be learned.
>>
>>77385394
Plan the ending. Don't make it too long. Just saying this because the experience of finishing a story is the most rewarding and valuable things about storytelling and many webcomic artists have difficulties finishing their comics because it takes a lot of work and the script blows in to a 1000 pages long epic and the artist never gets to try all the other ideas and uses all his creative energy on a single project. Not saying you're doing it right now but just consider it. Otherwise, I'm impressed how far you've gotten with the comic.

Edit the story and plan the date it finishes. Trust me its worth it in the long run.
>>
>>77381442
Just like art, writing is a skill that can take years to properly develop. In a comic, writing and art go hand in hand, elevating each other.
>>
>>77385782
Yeah, people who have never tried making comics tend to have a real hard time understanding that writing is a skill you develop much like any art.
One of my earlier chapter is a wordy-as-fuck expo-dump because I didn't really know what to prioritize.
>>
>>77386346
I think we should talk about writing in this thread more often. I would give anything to go back in time and slap myself for not researching plot structure and learning to edit properly. I thought length was a good thing. I thought the ending would just work itself out once I get there. Or even worse -- something I tried to avoid ending the story because I thought you were supposed to keep going as long as there are more ideas I can come up with and endings are just a sign of running out of them. Also I never planned the theme or made drafts. Man. No wonder I almost never finished anything. What saved me was short stories. I started valuing them and realized that they aren't any easier than longer stories. And that's when I started studying if there was some kind of a trick or technique to learn. I feel like that is when I truly started this hobby.

>>
>>77387137
I don't think there's a problem with not having a clear end in mind for your comic as long as you have a good structure within the different story arcs. There are lots of good comics and manga that are carried by an interesting protagonist who gets thrown into a bunch of story arcs that can basically be structured like standalone short stories, but are connected by an overarching plot and theme that is not even close to ending anytime soon.
>>
>>77381831
I actually just started it about a month ago and only made the tumblr for it in the last week so that's probably the main reason no one knows about it. I haven't really been advertising it either so really only my deviantart watchers have seen it. I've been really hesitant about putting it out there, else I would storytime it or something.

The PPG fandom is still surprisingly big, and Cartoon Network just put out a bunch of crossover comics with the characters (which is what convinced me to do my series, actually).

>>77385231
So many problems in my life could have been solved had I been 21 when I was 11, anon.

On the subject of writing, before this comic I've always tried to take a "write as you go" approach and leave the ending for later and it does NOT work. Writers block takes hold more easily if you don't know where you're going. In addition I think it's very important to consider the themes and ideas of your story so you can tell it more effectively/coherently and create a satisfying ending. Even if your webcomic is meant to be an ongoing epic spanning years, I would still have an ending in mind while doing it.

I think "Overlore" might be something along the lines of having your characters explain everything.

It can also be, like, if you have a bunch of technobabble/sci-fi/magic terms and diction that is just made up for your story. If you have a bunch of really crazy, weird, hard to pronounce/remember words, people might be intrigued at first, but after a while, it just gets hard to remember what is what.

That makes sense and I'll definitely keep that in mind as I write my stories. i guess Ill really need to be aware and attempt to get lore down in non expository ways, like a carving in an ancient ruin, I'm definitely going to try and have the religion of the world actually be a somewhat exaggerated version of what actually happened, and some parts need to be exposited through the oldking, but that will be a climax and hopefully forgivable.

I think you "overlore" when we've spent more time explaining the world than progressive with the adventure past the prologue/first chapter. IDEALLY I think in a comic you'd develop the world through the story and background elements rather than having a character explain everything to the audience.

Man, I just realized how much I'd love to write a comic without having to draw it. I don't mind drawing, I really don't, but I don't feel like I'll ever get that great at it. Even with shittons of practice this is as good as I've gotten.

On the other hand, I've written some rather successful pieces of prose. These include two relatively well received creepypastas, an SCP article with 60+ upvotes, and a lot of popular erotica

This post to me reads like someone who doesn't want to put in the effort to effectively promote their comic, as well as a person who thinks that their comic should just magically become successful overnight. Basically all of the "big" webcomics that are around today started off totally unknown, but they somehow managed to grow, most of them without a support network outside of who the author happened to know and who happened to come across their comic by chance.
>>
>>77392085

This made me smile. Could have used variation on the hair torso to make this funnier.
>>
>>77391946

Taptastic is great. There's a lot of high quality comics on it that draw a viewership that want to read webcomics. The interface is really good. You don't need your own website unless you want to run ads.
>>
How do you "think" the panelling for the vertical webcomic format? Is there some things to know in particular, or do you just use classic comic science?
>>
>>77404390
what do you mean? vertical webcomic format doesn't need any thought towards paneling.. you just put one below the other
>>
>>77404390
The vertical panel format is pretty new to comics actually. Since readers can more smoothly navigate the page by scrolling, remember that the action should be mostly moving downwards. (Not all of course, but major, page filling actions)

Keep in mind that your readers won't know what's on the bottom panel until they scroll down to it. Use this to your advantage.

"If" my comic is new and I am unexperienced, I'm not going to hide my comic on a site and just tweet about it. Heck, It it what I've been doing 2 years. I promoted my comic on tumblr, twitter, facebook. Nothing. Then, overnight I got a bunch of readers on one of those hosting sites. The site I neglected the most. Big communities DO help, I don't get why not use them at all. They are tools, after all.

Of course I want to get my own site who doesn't. I'm just wondering if it's useful when you are just starting.

ONE isnt good at drawing, and im guessing, he's come to terms with it. Ive read the entire webcomic, the entire manga version, and watched the anime out too, Its picked up because his story is A1, Great characters, sorta normal feely anime stuff that just gets shitted on by the premise of the story. It became popular because the subject matter was good enough that people looked past the art. Better art was just icing. Mob Psycho 100 will probably get an adaptation too. Same thing happened with AoT too.
>>
>>77409162

Overall: Not bad.

Nitpicks: The hair and mouth. He needs a bit more hair on the sides. Like about where the hairline makes it's descent to the ear. You've sorta got it like it's going straight down and back, when really it comes a bit more towards the front of the face.

Mouth: Something about the mouth makes it read more like a graphic. Like you learned a shorthand for how to draw open mouths and put it on his face. Or at least, like your construction of that area needs to be a bit more referenced so it wraps around better.

Also, watch your lines. The sketchy line always feels cool to make, but looks very non-committal. Don't be afraid to make single, strong, decisive lines. It'll come off more like you've got confidence in your work.

But yeah, overall, it's totally fine, save for a few bits here and there.
>>
>>77409144
There's a lot of luck involved in making it m'afraid
>>
>>77409263
Thanks a million for the feedback, I really wouldn't be conscientious of those bits had they not been pointed out.

I'll think about what the character is saying, think of the most embellished part and draw the mouth saying that

As for the sketchiness I turned a lazy rough into a less lazy one, but almost everything is on 1 layer, so I did too much to go over, and too much to erase it all.

I'm also not good at hair, really at all. I need to play around and find what's natural and suits my style, while remaining correct

Less details and you'lle be fine. You might want to condsider less accuracy and just draw it like you mean it. There are a lot of great tutorials for shading, and I think you should check them out. The lines are a bit scratchy at the moment. Not that it ruins the picture -- actually I think if you had left them out, the picture would breathe more. By breathing I mean the amount of lines in a picture guides the eye, and you may want us to look at the whole picture and the general emotional mood of the character rather than the wrinkles on his shirt.

So what I would suggest, is that experiment with making longer, more confident strokes and less details and shading. Make it minimal. See how it turns out. I think you will find that its faster and more relaxed. Then you can gradually start learning more shading techniques from tutorials and as you draw the comic.

So relax. Don't have to overdraw it. That's all. You got a great atmosphere going on. Melancholy and conflict pops out.

>What saved me was short stories. I started valuing them and realized that they aren't any easier than longer stories. And that's when I started studying if there was some kind of a trick or technique to learn. I feel like that is when I truly started this hobby.

Yeah, trying to go straight into writing an epic story without having drawn shorter stories is like trying to to go straight into srawing an epic comic without having studied figure drawing. Mine actually started as a series of short stories, but I wish I had done more before "rebooting" it into a larger story.

>>77387935
Yeah, I'm in the same boat.
I had a GENERAL idea of how I wanted the comic to end (it's rather episodic, with each chapter standing alone for the most part and connected by a larger plot), but as you keep writing you realize that your first ideas weren't the best, you change things to the point where your orriginal ending makes less sense, scenes you had planned get cut for pacing's sake.
My story is close to being 10% done but a lot I had planned has changed from the begining, I know my limits better and how much to insert into a story. I'm sure most people here will look back at their earlier chapters and regret them

Same here for the most part. I always make sure to keep my writing way far ahead of the page I'm currently drawing; gives me time to re-read the next pages over and over to make sure I don't want to change anything.

Right now I'm ALMOST done with writing the end of the first major story arc; really taught me a lot about my own on how to limit the "scale" of what was going on, since so many ideas had to be cut for pacing, but I think it's overall a satisfying conclusion

Anyhow today was a good day. Finally got a job in my field, though it's gonna be quite more demanding than what I'm doing now, so in part I do worry a bit about the comic... but work comes first. I think what really helps is writing with the mentality that each page should tell a short story on it's own; that and telling yourself that "By Page X, Even Y must happen" beforehand
And I actually like rather drawn out comics (My favorite comic is Cerebus the Aardvark, and that had GLACIAL pacing) but I read those once they're finished, so you kinda have to think of what it's like for the reader to read just ONE OR TWO pages per week

Mulling an idea over in my head right now. The synopsis is simple. There exists a world with many planes of existence for different elements (Forest, fire, water, death, life, etc.) and each plane has a protector. A sage. The sages control the plane they exist on and live in harmony with the creatures that exist within their world (forest = elves and animals, fire = goblins, and fire golems, water = merfolk and feesh, etc.) until one day when the plains collide. It starts with an active volcano popping out in the middle of the forest plane and out spawns an army of invading goblins followed by the Fire Sage. Fire is a destructive element so they start destroying the forest forcing the peaceful local population to either submit or fight back. I plan on having different elements for alliances to keep their home plane alive. Nothing too deep plot wise, more along the lines of something I can throw together to work on my writing before tackling bigger projects, and to draw cool monsters and fight scenes.
Pic related, my first attempt at using a tablet. Had to use Flash 8 since paint tool sai crashes on my ghetto ass laptop.

Four pages.
http://thesisters-comic.com/
http://tapastic.com/series/The-Sisters

Start of Issue 6. In which we get a taste of school, a funeral, a wake, and a tinge of romance. Things are going so well for the girls so far; after all, none of them have been murdered. Though Erin did invite a murderous shape-shifting alchemist to stay the night, and she's sort of seeing him, and he's in cahoots with that thing in the basement. At least Beatrice is stable. Well, not really. Jam's doing okay, sort of. She has her priorities straight.

Everything's gonna work out great, I assure you.

Artist tagging in. Thanks!

The main challenge with this update was how to do a cafeteria scene without doing a big crowd shot. It's not that I'm totally against those big sprawling shots, but we're on a deadline. I usually allot 2 days to finish each update, and drawing a school full of kids would've really pushed that.

And yeah, Chel's---really got a face.

BUT it does look really good in black and white. I need to go back and color it just to be sure. >I got a setting with loads of lore, but I ain't got a story
I'm having trouble wrapping my mind around this.

>>77429278
I find that hard to believe.
>>
>>77429354
To put it in another way, I got a world, but I got no idea what story to tell in that world.
>>
>>77429367
Well what kind of setting is it? What is it's history? What forces made said history? What gave rise to said forces? -What kind of tale would allow you to explore this setting and be relevant within it?-
>>
>>77429367
Well, that's pretty good! It's the other way around for me and I'm at a point where I need to invest more in world building to properly set the story.

In your case: Think of a character and give that character a motivation or goal. If you can't think of anything, ask yourself - what genre do I want to write? Check out scripts, books, comics, movies to get an idea what you want to write about. If you already created a world, I assume you write Fantasy or SciFi. Don't limit yourself; you can tell any kind of story in this settings. So what will it be?

Action
Adventure
Comedy
Crime
Horror
Mystery
Romance
Slice of Life
Thriller

???
>>
>>77429367
I feel like good worldbuilding always hinges on instability, and it should be pretty easy to come up with a story because of that.

I'm not the huge worldbuilding kind of guy, but I've noticed that many make the mistake of just mashing together a bunch of elements that are cool or interesting on their own without really building any interdependence or conflict between them, and that generally makes things boring.
>>
>>77429392
>Well what kind of setting is it?
It is a sort of "biopunk" (if you excuse the term) setting, taking place in a massive, decrepit "city" made out of flesh, and inhabited by the far off descendants of humanity. The mose populous denizens are beings known as freaks, which are basically just deformed, deranged and mutated, roughly humanoid (though not always) "people" that are either born directly from the flesh walls of the city itself, or birthed from the vats of one of the big factions of the setting.

The city is ruled by families of Nobles, whose rule is founded upon their great knowledge of technology, genetics, and the secrets of the city ( all of which they guard zealously), which has allowed them to rise to the top of the city food chain.
Underneath them, there are various powerful guilds, as well as the Cult of the Vatmothers (who know how to create customized freaks for the highest bidder) that is the biggest religious organization around in the city.

Life in the city is characterized by the survival of the fittest, and in order to keep up with that constant race, freaks have to augment and alter themselves with biotech, which itself is made extremely easy by a substance called biogel.
Biogel is basically the "spice" of the setting, as it keeps the wheels of the city's society in motion, as in addition to making grafting new augments to one's body relatively easy, it also allows rapid regeneration, works as high energy "fuel" for augments and freaks alike, and has loads of other, more esoteric functions too.
Day to day life for freaks ranges from just trying to survive to the next day, to the relative comfort of being a servant of either a powerful guild, or a noble house.
>>
>>77429472
Just put one power center against another, I guess? The Nobles may be shrinking in power or depending too much from the Vatmothers. There may be an uprising from the population to get their hands on a biogel reserve because they're 'starving'. Doesn't need to be a groundbreaking event, you only need a minor thing to set things in motion.

As I said, make sure that the conflict is built INTO the very premise of the setting.
>>
>>77429472
Also having a base theme to follow might give you a lead. Where do you want to end up with the setting? You don't need to hamfist it or even make a point about it, just keep that in mind as you develop things. Do you want to focus on personal horror? Transhumanism? A metaphor for drug addiction?

>What forces made said history?
The Noble houses are big players in the history of the city, and their machinations, wars and schemes have had heavy hand in shaping the city into the horrifying mess it is. There are also various unseen powers, including the intangible mind of the city itself, that both directs the slow biology of the city, as well as the countless, organic automatons known collectively just as Drones, that fulfill various functions across the city, ranging from repairing damaged tissue, to defending certain locations.

>What gave rise to said forces?
I have not fully fleshed out what originally gave rise to the current forces of the setting beyond the notion that things used to be better, but they have gotten worse and worse over time. The origins of the Noble houses is something I have developed a bit, but even their origins take place by the time when the City already exists.

>What kind of tale would allow you to explore this setting and be relevant within it?-
And that's where we run into my issue.
I simply don't know.
I just keep fleshing out the setting, as I don't know what sort of story I would like to tell.

Anyways, pic related are some of the servants of one of the noble houses.

>>77429415
I have never really written much of anything, so I am unsure what genre I would even write in.
The setting itself has a lot of room for action, adventure, horror, mystery and even slice of life.

>>77429454
I seem to be far more inclined for just creating worlds, instead of stories and characters to populate it with.

The conflict is very much built within the setting, and I have actually had some ideas like freak uprisings, intrigue between noble houses, outright war etc for the story. The problem is that I just don't really know how to go about telling the story, let alone developing actual characters.

>>77429513
I guess the overall theme of the setting is that of decay. Despite the mastery of biology the descendants of humanity possess, they are still unable to overcome the vices and flaws of their ancestors, and are instead stuck to keep repeating mistakes of the past.
>>
>>77429472
>>77429516
Heh, knew you were the same guy from the drawthread as soon as I saw "freaks".
>I just keep fleshing out the setting, as I don't know what sort of story I would like to tell.
This isn't a problem, it's a privilege. If you were able to develop a setting rich enough that you're spoiled for choice as to what kind of story you want to tell within it then you're already ahead of the game. If you can't come up with some grand tale that encompasses the entirety of the setting just have fun and make a bunch of short stories that take place within it. If you can, work those short stories into some sort of narrative, and if you're lucky they'll spawn a new narrative of their own. Keep exploring your setting and I'm sure you'll find the story you're looking for.
>>
>>77429542
So you want to focus on the intrigue and politics?

I think an ensemble cast would work. You let one of these big conflicts happen in the background, then pick up a bunch of people from different houses and show things as their progress from their own perspective, jumping from character to character as it goes. This keeps things fresh, you can jump from the common folk / adventurer types struggling for survival to some head of a House plotting and scheming.
>>
>>77429542
First off I would suggest spending some time on /tg/ as that board gives me a lot of great inspiration. Secondly, before you get to caught up in the present time of your story/setting it might be a good idea to flesh out the past and see if you like where your setting is going once the roots are set in, then you can pick and choose the elements that you do like of the past and throw out the parts you don't like, so that the present time in your setting feels more detailed and you wont have a situation where you spend all that time making a story only to find yourself not liking where it's going

>>77429576
That's a pretty good idea.
I don't even really feel comfortable with making a story that encompasses the whole setting. I don't think that I am skilled enough as a writer to pull that off.
Making short stories instead of trying to plan some great and big narrative right from the get go, might be for the better.

>>77429587
I like the sort of stories that have intrigue in them. Your description actually reminds me of the Path of the Dark Eldar trilogy that I read trough recently, which is pretty much all about a big conflict happening, and a bunch of spesh elves trying to either survive, or use the conflict to their advantage.

I just don't know if I am capable of writing such a story myself.

There is loads of opportunity for such stories in the setting however, as the noble houses are constantly scheming against one another for the control of the city, as well as it's resources and secrets.
The noble houses I have all have a sort of theme to them, pic related for example, are a bunch of prideful, arrogant traditionalists, who see every other noble house as unworthy to their titles, and impure in their genes.
>>
>>77429630
>I just don't know if I am capable of writing such a story myself.
You'll never know unless you try, and you'll never get it good if you don't fail at it first.

One criticism I have for the creatures is that they're all basically soldier/mook types... the designs are creepy and the individual themes are recognizable, but I always like it better when there's more "utilitarian" stuff going on. These houses will need messengers, means of transportation, maybe living computers a-la Mentats, food, or even creatures for sex and entertainment.

By the way come on the #webcomics channel on Discord, I'd love to chat more about it

This setting's origins actually draw from /tg/. There was a world building thread based on Giger's art, which was the catalyst for my inspiration for this setting.

Also, that's a good point. I'll have to think more about the origins of the city etc.

>>77429629
Thanks. I am pretty happy about how they look myself which is rare, as I usually hate my drawings.

Anyways, as I already described these guys briefly>>77429630 I might as well do the same with the last major noble house I have established, as well as for the other ones I already posted.

The theme with pic related is that their House is all about mercantilism, industry and greed. They have close ties with merchant guilds, and hoard both knowledge as well as wealth. As it is, they are the most powerful house in the setting right now, military and wealth wise at least.

>>77429542
The theme of this house is gluttony and infighting. Their noble family is reduced to 3 old as fuck individuals (that sorta work like ID, ego and super ego), and all the other, lower ranking nobles are mentally chained to obey the wills of the 3 elders, who fight against one another as much as they fight against other noble houses.

>>77429516
These guys are about excess, sensations, drugs and that sort of shit. They don't care much about wealth, or power, and instead are very hedonistic in nature. Their servants are for most part, just freaks who have been bound to the will of the house either unwillingly, or by their own choice. For example, a freak who is unable to pay off his drug debts to the house, might instead "opt" to sell himself instead, and be augmented into a servant.

>>77429667
You got a point there, so I guess I should simply try.

Also, these pictures themselves are purposefully showcasing soldiers and mooks, as I am seeking to establish the look of those sort of beings of each house.
>>
>>77429714
>as I usually hate my drawings
This is an excellent sign, anon, as it shows you're aware of your own shortcomings and therefore can strive to correct them. It's when artists get content that they plateau. I like what you're showing here, it's more than good enough for a webcomic, but so long as you never get too complacent with your work you'll always have room to grow. Sorry if I'm preaching to the choir here, I just don't want you to get a fat head and settle for "good enough".

Hating my own art is something I have had some huge issues with in the past, as it, combine with depression, sorta leeches away any motivation to draw in the first place.

>>
>>77429884
Most artist go through that, anon. As you get better you become more conscious of what makes your own art inferior, or can at least tell it isn't up to snuff even if you can't quantify why. It's just part of gittin gud. All I can say, to you and myself, is keep at it, it's perseverance that separates the wannabes from those that actually got gud.
>>
>>77421596
Sounds like a premise that could work best if you just draw individual pictures of the setting. I would not read a whole comic about that but I would browse a series of pictures that have a backstory behind them and tie together loosely.

Not only do you get a story to tell, but it'll also be fleshed out and will fit into the world you've made.

The universal "fuel" of the setting is the biogel, which is basically a mixture of high energy organic compounds, hyper compatible stem cells, and advanced nano machines, that both enables, as well as powers all sorts of biological shenangians. It is indeed a subject of great conflict, conspiracy and war, as it is coveted by everyone, from the lowliest of gutterspawn freaks, to the highest of nobles.

>>77433721

I'm pretty sure there's a word for that, monoculture or something, and it leads to certain developments in a civilization.. i can't remember what they are, but i would research that. That's where your interesting conflicts are going to come from.
or you could separate it and make it only the mutagen and leave the fueling up to good oldfashioned food.
>>
>look up "grabbed by the collar" on google image search just to get a reference
>one link just leads to a youtube playlist filled with nothing but women being grabbed by the collar

>>
>>77434602
Biogel isn't produced by any faction within the city itself. It is harvested or extracted from "wells", veins and even the flesh of the city itself. Unlucky newborn freaks might end up being captured, butchered, and squeezed for biogel too, as newborn freaks have loads of the stuff within their bodies.

The greatest sources of the stuff are the wells however, which are also massive strategic assets for the Noble houses who control them.
>>
>>77434674
Also, the Nobles, nor any tagnible faction in general, do not actually control the core functions of the city itself. The city is a massive living entity, that directs itself, and in many ways, is beyond the control of the denizens living within it.
>>
>>77434674
>>77434709
ohhhh i seeee.. so they basically have a socialist system where the production of the only product of any value is a set natural resource that can't really be cajoled much, but people still scrounge a bit because they can.. and some groups still manage to hoard by crowding around its best source points, despite being unable to eke any more out of those wells. this is interesting I think. It has some definite potential.
If I understand it right, nobody really has any reason to do squat with their lives except try to acquire power and secure a good position
>>
>>77434648
I remember on YT I saw a fetish video of a Japanese girl in BDSM attire swallowing raw octopus close to the camera. The octopus was fresh but dead, fortunately.
>>
>>77434824
The gist of the idea I have is that, once, in the past, the city might have been some sort of utopia, where everyone had their fill due to the city naturally responding to their needs, and biogel was a key part of that system, as it could work as fuel and food for organic systems and the denizens of the city, and it could also facilitate rapid biological reconstruction and reshaping of organic structures

In time however, both due to entropy, as well as due to the actions of it's denizens, the city has decayed and deteriorated to the point where there is no abundance of anything anymore, and the city's dwellers have long since lost control of the city, and instead basically live in a dystopian scavenger society built upon the still, barely functional foundations of the societies that preceded them.

Biogel is one of those foundations, as it allows the freaks and nobles alike to both alter, augment and maintain their bodies (which are often diseased and deformed in the case of average freaks), as well as create and fuel powerful biotech like organic weaponry, advanced augments and so on.
It isn't the only important resource, nor the scarcest one (metals are incredibly rare in the city for example), but due to the massive utility it has, it is vital to the denizens of the city.

The guilds, and noble houses produce all sorts of goods and services that they trade to one another, and even to average freaks, if they can afford to buy them. The trade in the city is usually based on bartering and an exchange of services, however raw biogel is also sometimes used as a form of currency.

There is not exactly a limited amount of biogel around, as the city produces it (at least for now) at a relatively steady rate (though wells do occasionally dry up etc) but there are limited amount of big sources of the fluid, which themselves are major reasons of conflict between factions within the city.
>>
>>77435056
oh dude that makes total sense. in fact i think i've seen an outer limits episode and a red dwarf episode where they discover the dead ruins of the aftermath of rampant elective bioengineering. it just gets out of control and this shit happens.. because people are more concerned with giving themselves bitchin' awesome claws than becoming efficient metabolizers
it also kinda reminds me of how mana gets treated in some RPGs, where use of it for weapons uses up the amount available for life. makes me think the ideal story would be a ragtag bunch of meek freaks unlocking the source of the city's providence and somehow changing things in a way that helps everyone go towards stability or leads them to a singularity or whatever
>>
>>77435420
Yeah, the idea heavily is that the city is so shit as it is because the denizens themselves ruined it.
Like I said earlier, the overall theme of the setting is decay, and humanity's incapability to truly avoid mistakes and vices of the past.
>>
>>77435491
so basically to write your story you have to sit down and decide what the summation is going to be, what's going to change.. even if it's only for one person. Because a setting this deep and good needs to be more than just a backdrop. You don't wanna have just 'some guy solves a murder mystery' as your story, right?
might be fun to have someone discover the history of the place, what led it where it was.. and then tragically fail at the last minute at making a difference. or find out they already did. or succeed, then find out that's only a drop in the bucket
>>
>>77435554
Good point.
Though I probably will start with stories that don't encompass the whole setting in that grand way.
Mostly because my gut sense tells me that smaller elements are easier to manage when making a story for basically the first time.

A good guide for how to deal with such a huge world would be the Judge Dredd: Complete Case Files books. Dredd comics vary between several 4-6 pages unitary stories that just show life in the city, with some huge, multi-part 50+ pages sagas that show huge epic events, and the end result is a varied, pretty encompasing picture of Mega-City 1.

she looks pretty bratty at the moment.. i'd give her different bangs (and you wanna lower pigtails when a head is tilted up like that) and.... uhh.. well, eyes slightly further apart.. maybe more delicate features. right now she could be a prison gangster with an eccentric hairstyle
whereas he looks exactly like a prison gangster's stooge. i'd say he's just about perfect.
wait, is she his daughter? because if so you chose right, but..
>>
>>77446414
Cant start revealing the plot now, but Thanks for the input!

I need to get more comfortable drawing her, shes supposed to be bratty towards the beginning, but shift to most loved character 2015 by the climax/falling action.

Good to know VICE looks decent, Ive been bouncing around ideas for him for a while
>>
>>77446693
speaking of revealing stuff
how do you have side characters introduce themselves when there's no time for it, no space, and no reason for it in-universe.. just wanting the readers to know the name
>>
>>77446938
I usually try to have another character mention their name in passing (though make sure the dialogue feels natural).

If it makes sense, you could have their name drawn in the artwork, such as a name tag/name tape on their clothing, a business card they are giving out, or a sign with their likeness on it. I imagine you could get creative with it depending on how important it was for the reader to know the character's name.

shit I changed the date on this one twice
I kept on seeing more unfinished panels.. why is this taking so long? then I count and.. oh shit, somehow there's 12 panels. and I just kinda kept going til I was sick of it, because there's no real ending to this one. it just keeps going. they have been here too long.. no beginning either, it just.. could be tacked onto the last one.

anyway I had a lot of fun drawing the chief. and there's something cathartic about writing insults when you're in presumed danger. brings 'to the pain' to mind
>>
>>77446938
You can just have a narration box with their name.
"So how's the plan coming along?"

but that's something you want to do consistently with all notable characters
>>
>>77447170
ah yeah exactly. too late now.
>>
>>77447155
since the characters are in a cave it might be worth slapping a dark filter over everything
>>
>>77447268
if I was smart or in any way a good artist, yeah. and then I'd start thinking of light sources, and include torches and shit.. and then spend forever drawing those on the walls.. and shadows.. and then wonder if torches fuck up the ventilation in a cave.. or whether trolls would bother since their eyes are super sensitive. then i'd start wondering why sometimes sensitive-eye cave dwellers have tiny eyes and sometimes huge ones, like goblins and trolls do, and then
and then it's just a videogame parody and I should relax

so how do you do a dark filter? is that something you can just do? is there a shortcut in photoshop?
no actually really when i used to play ocarina of time i'd sit in a sealed room and wonder 'wait a second, where is the light source.. is there one? does the engine just pretend there is one or what? there's only true pitch darkness if you play the song of storms at night' and recently i found out the spooky mask glows in the dark, and i never found it. and now i wanna go fucking boot that old game up and see for myself. but it never used to bug me when a room just sort of existed at a given light level. and holy shit it's 1 am

Because this chapter does have a funeral in it, and Jam is not a dress person. She probably doesn't own a dress that isn't a hand-me-down, and any hand-me-down dress wasn't funeral appropriate. But something from a piano recital or an ill-fated attempt at being in orchestra seems appropriate.

I think it also stands to reason that Connor will always look like a smug piece of shit. Orea and Walt get to have some good moments this time around. Next update or the one after that.

Orea's homeless, so she is wearing a damn snuggie because it is black. At least she probably has shoes on this time. Funeral is gonna be weird like that.

Martha and P.B. get a little more character, but damn they're super slow burning. If not for their importance later they might come to sooner relevance like Walt sort of has.

Delk, Douglas, and the Manager show up too. Douglas wasn't present for the BBQ, and his attendance/appearance has pretty much been just Issue 2. Delk was at the BBQ, but he also just met Scott and it'd be weird for him to go to the funeral.

Manager's looking a little dapper for a guy who works the night shift.

Feeling a bit of hype. Some good actiony/fucked up developments this time around. Conrad gets more than a panel. Villainous intentions are brought to light. Some Orea-vision. And Jam manages to snag a new tutor for magic.

Eh. It's a varied cast, anon. And none of them are really good or great people. It's a character piece for the most part. I mean, you can think what you want; but I'd ask you give it a shot.

It is a slow burn street-level urban fantasy about Satanism and we're partway into the second act. I like it, but I write it.

I hold to a mantra that people have to be people, nobody in this is an angle or a platform for any political means. I think if you gave it a read you might like it.

There's a good enough balance of levity and plot, most of the levity coming out of Beatrice's boyfriend Craig, who is just Zak Bagans.

thesisters-comic.com, if you feel like checking it out. Also on http://tapastic.com/series/The-Sisters if you want a scrolling experience.

I can get disliking it if you read it and it doesn't catch your interest on some level, but I'd hope you don't dismiss it off-right because the style is adjacent to something you dislike on a political/cultural level.

But hey, you do you. And I hope your comic is awesome, because we need more strong products out there. If you've got a project, or a site, show it up; I'm wired on coffee and could use something to read before the crash comes.

>>77449138
Such it is, man. I don't stress. It's a common observation to the style in place. I'm not mad, just hope it isn't written off simply because of the style alone.
>>
>>77449205
Personally I'm not a fan of the style but one thing I can say I dislike is the colors, they're very desaturated and they don't sit too well with the simple/stylized aesthetics. Especially the skin tones look too grey and make everyone look a little sickly. Just a tiiiiiny bit of saturation would look a lot prettier, but that's my 2 cents and someone would probably call that garish.

Well the art posted above is for characters mostly in attendance at a funeral. Sort of a muggier chapter, trying to find a more brightly-lit/saturated picture, but starting to realize not a ton of stuff we've done takes place in brightly-lit places in the day. Mostly in the woods.

I mean, I had an example I could've used but we toned it down to being a bit more drab/pastel/boring to fit a character.

Closest I have is a scene from the previous issue, and even then it's supposed to have a bit of off-ness to it due to the events transpiring.

But hey, I can respect your views man. I'll see about getting something a little more saturated in for next issue.

So what's your project?
>>
>>77449417
>So what's your project?
Oh sorry I was a different anon

It's mostly the skin tones that look too grey to me, the other colors being a little duller is fine.

just ignore all haters, if you feed them and respond like that its just going to make them worse, if you keep fighting the haters eventually they will make a dont reply to you meme
>>
>>77449441
Well we're nearing the end of the thread, so I'll risk the wrath of those who tell me not to respond to you by saying that I, personally, don't find any creative growth in ignoring someone who might dislike my work.

Most people have a good reason for why they dislike someone or something, and as I'm trying to push out a product for the sake of readership I make no gains by not trying to show someone why they might enjoy my product. I don't say they're wrong, I try to see their point, and if possible, I try to adapt what we're doing to better hit that audience without losing my own creative vision.

You can have open lines of communication if you don't poison the conversation by being the sort of person who ignores all but the hugbox, or who remains despite constant statements otherwise. Like you, your persistence would be something admirable if not for how caustic your attitude can be at times. Whether or not I think your work has merit is already swayed against you because what I know of your communication skills is that they're lacking.

What you're doing wrong, is fighting the "haters", rather than trying to see what they hate and work to correct that. Say for instance I was making a western story for a market that only likes romance stories. Rather than calling the people who dislike me pushing my western to their audience "haters", I could try to see common themes and grounds I could cover so as to show them they might like my work if they gave it a shot.

But that should be obvious. I mean, you've been here for some time. And you seem unwilling to give an inch to try and understand that this community of anonymous individuals would be better off if you adapted and tried to produce quality rather than dismissing them all as haters or unimportant.

You give them importance and humanity beyond "haters" simply by allowing them to see your work here. You've chosen this venue, it'd be of benefit to you to cease being a person worthy of a meme.
>>
>>77449429
I'll see what we can do about that in the future. Next story arc takes place in summer, ought to be a bit brighter and pleasant in the skin pallor. Save for the one person who is supposed to have a sort of sickly grey-pallor.

I appreciate it. Hope your stuff is going well.

if you say so senpai

and ive been here since hows your webcomic #1
>>
>>77449542
I'm aware. And it should saying to you that despite 209 threads between then and now, you are disdained. You've clearly gone down the wrong road to the point that one of the first functions of a board and thread for speaking on the subject has turned against you. Have you considered changing your attitude and actions so as backtrack to some place more acceptable with the locals?

I mean the issues I see that come from you are from your attitude towards others and the quality of your work. Quality will increase in time, if you keep at it and push yourself further. Discounting that aspect of why people dislike you and your product doesn't benefit you. If you asked sincerely, I'm sure someone would try to help. A change in attitude could lead to a change in quality, if you allowed yourself to go down that road.

But the impetus of it is on you and you alone. You could, for all intents, be content in being the dead horse to beat; in being a meme of a pariah. If such is the case; and for you it could be as you remain despite not trying to do what is needed to be of worth here; then there really is no point in talking to you.

I hold out hope however that this is not really the case. This is /co/, we're amateurs to some regard of course; nobody is expecting the moon of you. But if you put out a little more effort, tried something new, really put yourself out there and wanted to shift out of your current status I think you could.

But I'll cease talking to you now. I think two comments, sincere as they are, is more than enough to earn the ire you've got going on for you. Best of luck, and I hold out hope; as wavering a candle as it might be, in your improvement as a member of this little microcosm.

I hope you earn the right not to be ignored someday. The first step might be not ignoring others.

>>77449533

It doesn't make it feel Western.
It looks horrible both in itself and against brown, and your choice of font is also pretty unreadable.

You want to make it feel Western?
Draw it with a Western feel instead of making it look like Anime G.I. Joes in the desert, then worry about your balloons and font later.

Another thought that has occurred to me is while you, if I remember correctly, wanted to have a classic feel to your comic, your action scenes are certainly far, far more dynamic than what older cape comics used to have.

I've just been around since #150 or so. You're probably right.

Though I feel like he got less attention lately simply because he didn't post a lot, but moved to /aco/'s HYW instead.

That throne looks kinda like a toilet seat with handlebars in the last panel.

Anyone else here depressed because of their webcomic? I know I am. My fucking lifestyle, insomnia, dizziness, internet addiction, crippling loneliness...etc I'm still in my early twenties but I feel like I'm wasting my fucking life away. Not just that, I feel like an anemic, unmotivated lazy piece of shit. Days go by and nothing's done. I just watched a couple Youtube videos of how easily people draw shit in perspective and how clean and neat their animu drawings are and holy hell it triggered me. I mean, I only started drawing again since March, I've improved a lot but so what, when it takes me a fucking month to do a professional looking page. Seriously, when people say they spend 12 hours per page...I spend 2 days just sketching shit out and panelling it. I'm an unemployed neet and this is my golden opportunity to do a webcomic. YET it takes me a FUCKING MONTH.
>>
>>77450716
I had that exact same reaction when the artist first sent in the page and I saw her foot there. The answer is pretty simple: less surface area on the strike means more power. If she kicked with the sole of her foot it wouldn't do as much damage. The artist could explain it better than me though, I'll try to get him in here.

As far as the feel of the comic goes, the "classic" feel is more to be meant from the perspective of the stories at large, and the dialogue. The fight scenes are going to be much more sophisticated than you would see in, say, the Silver Age.
>>
>>77450796
Being depressed about it is part of the game
Maybe you just need to get a solid workflow down and practice the stuff till it's second nature, or at least to the point where you can work on a schedule.
Also as long as nobody's paying you, you don't really have to panic about being slow.
>>
>>77450796
Same. The good thing: When I see people like you I know how pathetic I am. I should change something.
>>
>>77450796
Being unemployed kills all motivation. I've been there. In order to be any kind of productive, you need to have some kind of structure around which to work.

Go out, get yourself a part time job. Ideally one that makes you wake up early, and lets you off while you've still got a few good hours of light left in your day. Spend those hours when you get out of work drawing. Spend your hours at work thinking about what you're going to draw later, and what kind of story you want to tell.
>>
>>77450796
Hang the fuck in there baby.

Trust meeeeeee...
>>
>>77450796
Do you have a tumblr? Skype? Email? I may be able to shed some insight on this.
>>
>>77450836
Not him, but I've never been more unproductive and demotivated as during the time in my life where I worked shitty part time jobs. During my NEET days, I was the most productive, able to draw 8+ hours each day without even having to force it.

i actually dont feel like i get any attention in this thread, from my point of view people just lose there shit and act retarded as hell around me

>>77450757
what? no i didn't i posted one page and said "i tried to make a porn comics once, but wasn't into it" and left, and havent been back since

i also drew a naked fallout girl in the work on your adult art thread but wasnt feeling /aco/ at all so i just left and never went back

>>77450796
what? if your not having fun making your webcomic your doing something wrong

no matter how many people hate me or my webcomics i dont give a shit cuz i had fun making it and i have fun drawing and making stuff in general, why dont you get a real job and see if you have fun doing that instead?

>>77450942
theres no reaction image in the world for mfw... all of what you just said...
>>
>>77451067
I suppose it's different for everyone, but if he's struggling to be productive while having literally nothing but free time, perhaps a little structure would serve him better.

And I hear you on the part time jobs being soul killing. You just kind of need to tune them out as much as you can.
>>
>>77450813
>Maybe you just need to get a solid workflow down and practice the stuff till it's second nature

Maybe. I'll try.

I just know I have entered a 'Togashi' phase and it's all about getting out of it.

>>77450828

Well glad I could help.

>>77450836

I'm unemployable. No work skills, No one would want to hire me. But if it won't get better I'll have no choice but to look for something.

Anyway, I need to get my shit together.

Jokes aside having a schedule and having a good sleep pattern makes you function a lot better. Like all animals we work better on habits.

by default, in videogames, everything is a specific brightness
the game just doesn't add enough darkness to make things pitch black
>>
>>77447344
i think you can just slap a layer set to shade or overlay or something with a full block colour of brown or blue (with a low opacity)

It's a side kick, with the striking surface being the edge of the foot .

Oh, so she studied the scoring of points on a training mat, not actual fighting.
>>

It looks pretty cool, but IRL is just a fancy way of hurting your foot, pretty much every modern martial art dropped this. Side kicks are done with the heel now.

Well aware of that and noted, but solely chosen as a visual flourish on my part.
Truth be told considering purple and white spandex, boob windows, brightly colored non-existent ninjas etc.

I'm surprised it took this long. It's all good tho'.

yeah I don't know how to draw thrones, they always come out as toilets. Plus it's a troll throne so I wanted it to look like it was just hammered together from whatever they could find. they're mountain trolls so there's not a lotta trees around. or much of anything, which actually comes into play later.
The thing I was focusing on is making it look too big for him. like that's where his dad used to sit

it's funny how being employed kills motivation too. the only time i feel like doing shit is when i know everything is okay (or have convinced myself of that) but i don't have to work.
>>
>>77454183
I'm employed and my motivation is through the roof, because I hate my job so much and I want to make a living off of comics ASAP, so I'm working harder than ever to make that dream a reality.

>>77451574
learning shit! overlay looks great, though it ignores white.. whereas darken is a little too harsh but it does affect white. this is worth playing around with. can't guarantee i'll use it in the comic anytime soon but maybe! thanks much
>>
>>77451896
I have always hit with the side of my foot. but then i have an enlarged, thickened, heavy foot-outer-edge and my ankle naturally likes bending that way as long as i'm not putting weight on it. it's extra natural when you're doing some kind of rotating kick, which I have trouble with due to my legs weighing more than the rest of me. but my heel? fuck that would hurt to use.
>>
>>77454223
ah i guess for go-getters that makes sense.
>>
>>77446332
Simplify. Less scratching. Long, continuous lines are clearer and save you time. Also, you don't need to try to create all that detail and realism. It's okay to stylize. If you want to go down that road, then you should start with basic material from proko.com or download a book about basic technique and figure drawing.

But: if its a story you want to tell, there is nothing wrong with using stylization and create a comic with the level you have right now. Just find a way around the stuff you haven't learned yet and focus on storytelling.
>>
>>77449684
Kick them. Kick them in the dick.
>>
>>77450796
Simplify your style. There are many great and successful comics that have no intention of looking professional -- yet they do.
