Her and her parents had that speech years ago when we were highschool freshmen, they were okay with it but the priest I guess took issue. Hell, I even said I believe in the Plagues of Egypt since there's scientific evidence those happened (over the course of a decade, but I didn't say that).

Still, he stopped coming up to me after services and two later she started getting really cold towards me. She kind of got her stuff ready to leave over a week then one Sunday left for church without me, and when she got homs we just spent the rest of the day figuring out who got what of the stuff we shared belonged to who, and I helped her load it all up in her (ironically gay atheist) brother's car. We never talked about breaking up, only talked once since then and it was pretty basic "how's life" stuff.

No shouting or drama or fighting or anything. Just kind of melted away or something, as a way to describe it.

They aren't a glamerous animal.
They're a common one that avoids confrontation. They don't have a lot of mythology that comes with them, just biology.
So the typical "wolf", "deer", "cat", or similar groupings of tropes (for lack of a better word) don't exist.

They're long suffering family/community-oriented creatures. They're localized and can thrive just about anywhere.

So perfect for slice of life stories. In fact, take any slice of life story. Make the whole cast animals, protagonist is a possum. It totally works.
John Dorian, Ginger Foutley, Bojack Possumman.
Doug would probably be improved with him being a possum.

Plus, very expressive faces and complex hands make for good styles.
