>My editor-in-chief, Hannah Means-Shannon, pointed out to me that the Gwen Stacy of the title Spider-Gwen was a teenager, rather than the twenty-something character we had left back in the seventies, something I think I’d failed to pick up on.

Remember when people used to read comics before making up facts and assuming?

Don't like three people from /co/ post on Bleeding Cool boards? Xenos, El Poocho Magnifico, and I think someone else?

Maybe one of them can point that page out to Rich and Hannah
>>
Spider-Gwen is less than 90 pages long so far. Can none of these writers for news stories bother to read it in 15 minutes?
>>
>>71120844
So if she is underage and this is supposed to be a title geared towards younger audience then why is she at a bar and being offered a drink by Spider-Pig?
Could it be that she is of age and people are just trying to find an excuse to call sexism, no shock there
>>
>>71121004
anon you presume that journalists of this day and age actually do their own research when they can just tweet someone else for questions
>>
>>71121007
>then why is she at a bar and being offered a drink by Spider-Pig?
Because men are pigs.
>>
>>71121007
A. People don't bother reading the comic, they just assume I BET SHE'S LIKE 16

B. People are making the readers of these articles think that Gwen is a young teen by lying and hoping to drum up hate.
>>
>>71121033
The fact still stands she was allowed in a bar without being carded. If this book is trying to appeal to a younger female audience then alcohol may be something to stay away from
>>
Wait, so "Hannah" means "Shannon" now?
Fuck, and I thought Hannah not being a boy's name was confusing enough.
>>
>>71121071
This book is for teenage girls. Who need to be treated like infants until you tell them not to do something, at which point they're totally adult.
>>
So she's a teen in Spider-Gwen?
>>
>>71121055
>Ladies and Gentlement the wonderful world of feminism
skewing the facts to make it so you can never be the villain

>>71121092
If it's for teenage girls, then there is no problem. If it's for young children then I would blame the writer and artist for having a bar scene. I still wouldn't blame Cho because Cho wasn't even distributing the art for sale it was a fan drawn piece
>>
>>71120844
Isn't she in high school though? The comic wasn't super clear about this, but I guess Peter dying happened years before the story?
>>
Let's assume Gwen got into the bar without being card (something in NYC that never happens), Gwen is in college as Captain Stacy said so she at least 19-20. Sure 19 years old is a teenager but she's older than 18 so she's legally an adult. Gwen could be a porn star or stripper if she wanted at 18.

My point is 19 is an adult. So why are all these sites acting like Gwen is 15 years old?
>>
>>71121130
I think people assume she's a teen because of the first Spider-Gwen comic where the recap took place in high school, I think.

Also isn't Randy Robertson in this universe the same age as Gwen, MJ, Glory, and Sha Shan? Why is he in a bar if people think Gwen's a teen?
>>
The best part of this is that the Bleeding Cool guy comes here so maybe he'll add a correction note at the bottom about her being 21+ when he sees this thread (without actually crediting us, as usual).

Whelp, I guess I was misremembering. Although I don't understand how the American education system works anyway. You go to college, without choosing what you want to study...and then you just not say what you're studying for a while until your parents complain that you haven't 'declared'?

>>71121340
It doesn't matter because they aren't writing for people that read comics. They want to make up what they need to be true, just to drum up support for their "progressive" movement and will never back down when facts are revealed.

Because even if they are 100% wrong, it's important someone brings attention to these imaginary crimes.

Sound like an excuse to get mad. There's no real meat to this controversy (just like there was nothing to the original Spider-Woman cover) so Rodriguez is just insinuating that Cho's a pedo (even though 16 is legal in some states).

But hey, we've must be careful never to laugh at ourselves lest we have a sense of humility. We must be as uptight as possible at all time.

Why do we care how old Gwen is in the comic?

If she was underage does it magically mean that Cho is a pedo or something? It is obvious Cho was drawing an adult.

I think this is just a typical SJW debating tactic, attacking the character of the person by implying he is a member of an unsavory group.

I'm suprised none of the usual suspects have tried to claim that Cho is a Conservative, Libertarian, Egalitarian, Athiest, Nazi, MRA, Red Piller, Gamer Gater, Sad Puppy yet.

An artist who draws sexy women drew Gwen in the pose of the Spiderwoman cover for a fan and people got mad. Then he told them to fuck off and drew Harley too in that pose. Some mad people tried to claim he was wrong for the Gwen thing for incorrectly saying that she was a teenager and arguing that teenage girls shouldn't be overly sexualized.

I don't understand asking people to reign in their personal art, it's theirs to do with as they please and it isn't like it's being sold as an alternative cover. The worst case scenarios is the artist chooses to sell it as a print on their website or at a con and even then it's not like you have to buy it

>>71121801
Are you above age, and look it?
>>
>>71121650
>Why do we care how old Gwen is in the comic?
Part of it is that, yes, it does have to do with how "old" she is meant to be. That is something people still care about greatly. I agree it's functionally pointless in this kind of thing, but there we are.

It's mostly being jumped on here on /co/, though, is because it is, in fact, more useless than usual. Even by the standards being used to criticize the fake cover, those critics are wrong. She is not "an underage teenager." She is a woman in college. It's about people getting worked up about an issue without even having the decency to know basic facts about the issue.

A large part of this seems to be the way we portray ages and so on in art. If a character doesn't look "old enough," they're immediately decried as being underage. Which is silly, because one look at the real world will show you that you get all sorts of body types, sizes, and appearances that make simply telling age from physical appearance a suckers game. I knew an 18 year old in highschool who could've easily passed as a middle schooler, and probably even younger than that too. She looked the same when I met her in college. It was pretty uncanny, I'll admit, and she had crazy asian tiny girl genes, but still.
>>
>>71121779
This is essentially what most level headed people (including other industry artists) have been saying, but of course people actually involved with the argument don't care about being sensible at this point. They just want to be "right"
>>
>>71121806
It was never made, they just made it up for that issue to set stuff up. Maybe at some point they might go back to it.

Frank Cho drew a sketch of Spider-Gwen in the Manara pose for fun.
The next day people started bitching on twitter, the Mary Sue wrote an article on it, the artist of Spider-Gwen made a tweet saying "Be lucky you're never around me" and then later went on to say he meant he'd rant at him and went onto rant that Comics are in a boom with women and kids and feels artists like Cho and Campbell who has actually done real variants for Gwen multiple ones risk that by keeping in their old cheesecakey ways. He also said he just recently got over being embarrassed to admit he worked in comics.

You know, the character is going to be drawn the same anyway. You can call them underaged or you can call them fifty billion years old, it doesn't really make any difference. Pretty silly to get upset on that basis.

Even if she was underaged in the series you could just say that that cover is set in the future in the setting, it would be drawn the same way. Getting upset over that is like people who watch an animated movie and complain that it's unrealistic. Yes, fish can't actually talk, but this is a movie about talking fish. Ya know?

Northern Ireland fag here. This is pretty much spot on; it's how kids are/were pulled into the paramilitary groups, on both sides.

Obviously some (actually quite a few considering) people would have a genuine grievance with 'the other side', but quite often it was/is a case of 'Here, you don't want your wee ol' mam to be beaten up by those bastards, do you? And did you hear about the bombing/shooting last week? Killed two kids, the bastards'.

They reinforce the idea that there's some innate, deep down in the bones difference between 'us' and 'them', and to be friends, or even kind to 'them' would be cats and dogs living together. 'They' are the enemy. 'They' want to kill your mum. 'They' killed some of 'us' the other day.

That's nailed into you day after day, until finally, you believe it, and you're the one telling some kid that their next door neighbour, some ninety year old man who never hurt a fly, is the enemy, and should be shot.

Showing a sign of weakness, of doubt, is like blood in shark infested water. After all, you're either with us, or you're against us. So eventually you'll be turning on your best friend, just because they're not as stanche in their belief as you, even if you don't believe it yourself. It's all about keeping up appearances. You might think it's all nonsense, but you can't let on, because then you'll be the one on the chopping block.

The IRA and UVF and everything in between may be bastards, and believe me, they were, but at least they were out in the open. I dunno how else to put it; you knew it was out there, and you knew it was happening around you, but you wouldn't realise it was working on you. With the SJW crowd, it's all done in the shadows. It's not obvious, and it's all lies and half truths, and you're told that it's good, because hey, you don't want to be a racist do you?

You're not an oppressor, are you? You're not one of them, are you?

And again in the next panel! She's laying back, her legs spread! Disgusting. And then she's just lounging there, her ass on display, up in the air as if she's in some misognistic advertisement! Whoever drew this is a shitlord and deserves to be shot at dawn. No last cigerette.

All joking aside, do the spider powers also come with the desire, compulsion and indeed, tolerance for these fucked up poses? Every spider related hero is always hanging upside down, standing on two different walls at once, or whatever. You'd think it'd be uncomfortable, but they treat it like falling back into a big comfy chair

Like this is credited to Claremont and I forget the artist despite being more or less Spidey without change.

Latour has been in the game for at least a decade. He's a professional who sees comics as going from one job to the next. Those are the people that last the longest in comics.

Rodriguez complained on twitter a couple of weeks ago that Stan Lee signed a Spider-Gwen comic, and then said "some things never change in the industry". Wait until they hand off the book to a superior artist, and watch the inevitable twitter meltdown.

Except they are some people who are pissy about Dick being objectified in canon.
They don't read the book, see mostly panels of Dick being half naked, and rage about the book threatening his purity and being out of character.
Wish I had made screenshots of some comments made when that issue where the horny girls chased him came out.
>>
I'm a 'uprising' comic professional, and I have to say I feel I can never talk these things on twitter. You wouldnt believe how feminazi is the thinking on comic professionals around these days. All you can do is talk on cons with your pals that knows that all these bitching about covers stuff is nonsense, it's ridicolous.

You cant disagree with these people, because they're very vocal and you always looks bad. Either your pervert, or a sexist, or an old trend. Is though, but I want to work with superheroes (for now, I want a little fanbase before doing my own stuff), and that's the job.

That reminds me of this really, really long rant someone did about Grayson. She said how objectified he is, how he is "too passive", and how he was "too good a person". Yes. TOO GOOD A PERSON. One of her examples was the third issue where he should have just beat up the guy with the guns instead of trying to talk him down both times

Well let's see what Robbi's contributions are:

- Costume recolor.

That's pretty much it. Lee & Ditko created both Gwen Stacy and Spiderman. Rodriguez didn't even change her iconic hair-cut and black headband that Ditko designed.

Ok, what about the idea of Gwen getting Spider Powers? Oh yeah, that was Dan Slott's idea, who brought Rodriguez/Latour in for Spiderverse. The rest? Written by Jason Latour.

The Verdict? Spider Gwen is even less of an OC than Sonichu.

What White Privilege stops AIDs now? I thought she was just making a joke like you'd make with your friends. That's an issue with Social Media, people like to treat it like it's their friends when it's the world. You can make those jokes with your friends and they'll know you're making a joke or at the very least you embarrassed yourself in front of a small group understanding people. With Twitter you're just shooting your brain farts out into the world and while your friends will see it, a million dicks you don't even know will probably think you're being 100% serious because they're humorless.

Because they keep thinking that these people(women) will start buying their product once they weed out the "problematic" elements.

Women aren't buying comics in big numbers compared to men, the entire industry could potentially double in size if women bought more comics. Companies look at this gap and wonder why women don't buy comic books. SJWs show up and say it's because of the cheesecake and that they'll start buying them in huge numbers once it's gone.

But then they get rid of it and suddenly the writing is "problematic" and they'll start buying them when that's all fixed up.

Then when that happens they say that the fanbase is "problematic" and that they feel uncomfortable buying something associated with those kinds of people. But promise that women will start buying the product once they've cleaned that up.

And then the male audience leaves because they're perpetually having things they like attacked and diminished and the existing female audience which was often barely complaining about stuff give up because everything they liked about the product is now gone.

And the tidal wave of women that the company bent over backwards for? They never show up. But the hope of the company is that they will so they keep doubling down and hoping that with just one more rule or edit women will suddenly fall over themselves to read the latest Batman comic.

More that they dangle a carrot in front of people(more sales and money) and never ever follow through. Just complain more.

I think Gail Simone wrote something about it recently Tumblr Comic fans, the ones who don't read, don't buy and don't contribute anything to the company making the product but have a massive sense of entitlement because they reblog fan-art and demand that the companies fix their problems while giving nothing back.

I used to pirate comics exclusively myself, never bought them except the odd trade, its the easiest way to get all the classic series that would cost a few hundred dollars minimum to catch up on(Sandman, Preacher, Transmetropolitan, Starman, Ultimate Spider-Man and the like) but then DC cancelled Manhunter which I fucking loved. And they killed it because the sales were too low. So I started buying comics that I liked and pirating the ones you "have" to read for universal continuity. Now I just buy what I want weekly and skip the universal storylines where I can. I still want them to bring back Manhunter one day.

The right answer is who fucking cares because both parties are happy and it's none of our fucking business. But good luck telling them that.

Aren't they trying hard to stop MLP from encroach on them?
>>
>>71131915
Wait until they go against the otakus. It'll turn into WW3 if they try to take their waifu pillows away
>>
>>71132227
Otaku are untouchable because they've already given up on 3D women.'

Ninety percent of this shit is because guys don't want 3D women to consider them untouchable. Once you go wizard, SJWs have no power.

>Though aren't tumblrtards into otherkin type shit?
You make the mistake of thinking tumblr is one group.

Tumblr is like 4chan. It's a shitload of different communities. /b/ doesn't define /k/ or /fit/. People on /tg/ are only vaguely aware of any hacking activity done in the name of politics, and probably only secondhand or hearsay or through like one guy on both sides.

SJW tumblrites have nothing to do with the tumblr fetishists or the tumblr camwhores or the tumblrs posting crap from the 90's for nostalgia. It's a powder keg though, since it has a high density of nutcases without anonymity.

What you're saying is, the weeabs will save us? Fuck, it's just like one of their Japanese cartoons
>>
>>71132227
It's mostly an American thing is it not? It's not like they'd pop into Japan. But that'd be so one sided. Japan gives no fuck, their nerd shit already has a healthy abundance of female inclusion, and really they're obsessive about it. Their hardcore nerds make our hardcore nerds look like well adjusted individuals.
>>
>>71132292
Deprive them of their money.
Post their real identity and tell them they're a shitbag until they an hero, then watch as their mother gets the media to decry SJW's and divide the soccer moms from the lesbians.
>>
>>71132292
Supposedly gay people are getting fed up with SJW tactics and being used as shield to deflect criticisms.
>>
>>71132366
/r/ing that image of Anita criticizing Japanese culture.
>>
>>71132210

In the process, all they did was piss off the freedom loving parts of the Steven Universe fandom with their nonsense.
>>
>>71132376
Yeah, but gay people fall into:
1) Men
2) Man-haters
3) Traitors to the cause

There's not enough people with gay sympathy, and unless you actually have a job there's not much the united homosexual community will do.
You need someone absolutely fucking CRAZY. Crazier than they are.

You see it with the minorities too on some things. They get overlooked by people claiming to be on their side but who are also unwilling to accept that maybe their input is not needed and possibly also incorrect.

So basically the world is begging for more lewd Spider-Gwen. I can get behind that. In more ways than one.

>Spider-Ham is her conscience
Well I think that's probably the best thing that could come out of this series. As appealing as the design and premise was, nothing interesting has been done with it. Who gives a shit about the Josie and the Pussycats stuff? Did they really have to make MJ a cunt foil to make Gwen interesting? Actually that's been a trend for a while now hasn't it?

I will say this, bondage fetishists tend to be odd people.
