So I just finished season 2
>didn't bastardise characters for a cheap plot
>made an effort to keep themes from the movie
>referenced scenes from the movie, and even themes from the books
>made efforts to expand the setting and add new content into the mix
>actually made adult characters not completely useless
>didn't go completely overboard with shipping
>gave side characters some limelight
>villains were sufficiently competent/intelligent to be a threat, yet flawed enough to be defeated
>flaws in the villains were completely intentional, not last minute bouts of retard
How the fuck did this happen?
I was expecting a soulless cash in
Agreed. Also I think the most interesting thing they could do is show how all the new stuff (flight suit, sword, things in the village, etc.) came to be and develop relationships between various characters to what they were in the second movie . Also I want to see more Stoick.
yeah, as much as I admire their restraint in regards to shipping, they do kind of need to include it a bit to establish how they went from having an understanding to full blown and clearly comfortable relationship.
Though judging by the intro to number 2, Stoick will probably be a tumblr fangirl and try ingenious methods to force them together.
That and how Fishlegs and Snotlout became obsessed with Ruffnut. I'm sure they didn't both just wake up one morning and say "I want in on some of that". Well, Fishlegs would never say that, but you get the idea.
>dreamworksmakes several shows for Nick
>at best they are mediocre and have abysmal production value
>dreamworks makes a how for Cartoon network
>good humor and plots and the quality of the CGI is the best I've seen for a tv series
So maybe dreamworks doesn't just do cash ins? maybe it's the network throttle that causes the product to be shit
We'd need at least a second dreamworks show on CN to confirm
When Riders of Berk premiered, they got the movie's executive producers to talk about how the show would lead-in to the movie. About how, even though the show wouldn't be required viewing, fans would be rewarded in the second movie by knowing certain things from the show.
That was bullshit. It didn't happen. Defenders of Berk had one episode about Hiccup's mother and NOTHING was revealed in it. They could have had Stoick drop a line about his mom being taken by dragons or something.
I suppose we did get one little scene where Hiccup received a dragon toy that his mother made, implying his mother liked dragons, but it barely focused on that.
Show was 6/10 territory. The animation was decent in parts and sometimes the comedy was pretty good but it was REALLY obviously made for a slightly younger audience than the movie(s), and the flat characterization/lesson-of-the-week shit got in the way of making a truly top-notch show.
It still featured here and there in even the 2nd season.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it was utter shit or anything - I'd put it above average as far as kids cartoons go but it comes off as weak compared to the movies.
Did make me start shipping Hiccstrid though... shameful.
>made for a slightly younger audience than the movie(s)
I actually think both were aimed at a roughly similar age range - boys 8-12. It's just that the movie was so good that it pulled in a much broader fanbase and won many adult fans through its charm and high quality production values.
I doubt my dick couldn't take it.
season 3 is in development, will be a netflix original show now, bridging the gap between the first and second movie showing astrid and hiccups relationship develop and hiccup making the flight suit.
Am I the only one that got upset that Tuffnut didn't keep the short hair?
Also the show turned Ruff and Tuff into my fave characters to the point where watching the movie again I'm kinda shocked that they have like... 4 lines between em.
season and movie 3 is already in development (the former being released in april next year and the latter being due for 2016, IIRC) and season 4 is confirmed.
I kinda doubt that there's going to be a season after movie 3, even if it's set between 2 and 3.
You can't really have a very final movie, chock full of closure, and then proceed to run yet more of it.
managing to bring Alvin aroundis what lead to him trying to persuade Drago, and what lead to Stoick's death
Given they used to be best friends, I wonder if
Alvinwill hunt Drago down to try and even the score
>"Just because she's beautiful, people think she's not tough, but that doesn't mean that you should underestimate me...errrh...her"
I loved that slip. Also shows that shes selfconcious about how people percieve her, which explains a lot about her behavior.
And is also a thing she shares in common with Hiccup, though they takcle the issue differently.
no, you do not fear death, you welcome it.
Your punishment must be more severe
To be honest I was surprised when they didn't actually have the title in the film. In part because it's a full sentence (almost), and the movies really are about how to train your dragon. If any film could get away with the title drop, this was one of them.
I didn't mean that, I meant that implying it was shameful to do so has... unfortunate implications
I've never been in one, but I'd like to hope that they're not petty enough to do that.
I mean, I don't really see many people making direct comparisons of the two movies (though I've seen the fanbases get compared a lot) so there shouldn't really be much cause to shitpost.
It's going to be hiccstrid ogreload once season 3 hits.
I wonder how they're going to approach it, given that they've been merely close friends with only a hint of romance for the first 2 seasons
Well, according to this:
>Based on DreamWorks Animation’s hit How to Train Your Dragon films, the new episodes bridge the gap between the first feature film and the much-anticipated sequel How to Train Your Dragon 2, hitting theaters this summer. Weaving a continuous storyline, the television series works in tandem with the feature films and DVD specials, allowing fans to delve deeper into dragon lore. From the origin of Hiccup’s new flight suit and the secrets of his dragon blade to the young Viking’s budding romance with Astrid, DreamWorks Dragons on Netflix gives viewers rich details of the larger narrative with the introduction of new dragons, exotic places and worlds unknown.
We can expect plenty of hiccstrid.
But if it is a proper relationship that's established i the cannon, is it still really shipping?
So are we getting the standard
"Hero does something hilariously stupid, gets injured and receives a blurted out confession" moment from when Hiccup tries out the prototype wingsuit?
Which is naturally part of Toothless' master plan
It probably would be the needed catalyst to get both to open up, given that they're fairly closed up about their emotions.
I just hope there's no artificial romantic tension bullshit that goes on, though the writers seem to be happily dodging artificial plot bullets so far.
We already had shitposting with the per-thread "movie was shit" posts.
For better or worse, the activity of these threads is more or less the same as it was for the first movie, minus Ruffnut lovers.
Well, they were still around with the show threads. Plenty a complain about her not keeping the short haircut were made.
Maybe the new design really puts people off? I thought it was alright.
We didn't really get to appreicate Ruff's beauty until we saw her in the specials, the same might be true of her new design.
They have done a great job so far, so I have no reasons to doubt.
Ruff had her fans from day one on her attitude and predatory behavior (which are still there in the sequel). But until a specific close up in GOTNF, you'd hardly find screenshots where you could outright say "what a babe" (the close up of her face when they find the dragon eggs).
So I wanna ask - what is it that makes HTTYD special for you? What sets it apart from every other animated movie and gives it that unique quality?
For me - I'm not even sure I can explain it properly, It's a lot of different things. Something about the first movie really spoke to me on a personal level, and I think Forbidden Friendship is the most magical scene in a movie filled with magic. And as a lover of orchestral music, I found the grand and sweeping soundtrack that wasn't overly so to be amazing as well. The visuals are great - they make me wish I had seen it in IMAX 3D. The amount of care placed into tiny subtle details is also astonishing; for example I never noticed Hiccup had a tiny amount of stubble in the scene from webm related until someone pointed it out to me. While the plot may not be 100% original - then again neither were Shakespeare plays - I found the execution to be wholly amazing and I can find very few flaws with it, even nitpicking. I've never cared much for shipping before, but Hiccup and Astrid are literally perfect. It's one of those few series that seriously makes me wish I was in it, either by the day reading these threads and rewatching the movie, or by night lying in bed. Even more so than LOTR, my other favorite fantasy series. HTTYD has pulled me in and hasn't let go, like winter in Berk.
So there they are, my feels laid bare.
Well said. Well said indeed. Excuse me, I have something in my eye that I'll need to spend an hour in my room alone getting out.
Yeah. It just felt jarring and uninspired, like with Melman and Gloria in Madagascar 2. Is an overt crush between two main characters really so enticing and easy to write that they're going to shoehorn it into every sequel?
All of that, plus one small detail in the ending
Obviously they weren't gonna have Hiccup die in his heroic actions, but he didn't get off unscathed. How many cartoon main protagonists end up losing a limb?
They know that they don't stand a chance against the perfect husbando.
I'm not gay by acknowledging this right
>But it felt out of place, especially since it wasn't in the first movie.
The whole point of the second movie was about changes.
They didn't have to have the characters aged 5 years, yet they did.
The stuff with Ruff is something the fans have been waiting for a long time. I figured they were paying lipservice to them.
I found it really entretaining. They could've tonned it down a bit, perhaps.
I wanna see it resolved.
She got a taste of how Hiccup must have felt all the time
I don't think it was out of place. It made sense, but it was pre-established. I would like to see the development of them coming to have feelings for her and the villages reaction.
Has anyone else read this? I'm on chapter 22 right now. I suppose it's pretty good as far as fanfic goes. Totally called the
Nemesis being Hiccup's momtwist as soon they as they introduced her though. Hiccup... had a hard life, even if I do think he gets a little too emo for a bit there.
>tfw the last thing of note you've read is a fanfic longer than The Hobbit
I bet Astrid found Hiccups shot limit if you know what I mean.
Something I really admire about both the movie and series is how competent and empathetic the adult characters are, even if they're making the wrong decisions.
Most animated films make the authority figure a demonstrably wrong character that has to be actively fought against, but Stoick's actions in the first movie are all very understandable, and his role in the series and 2cnd movie was that of a genuinely intelligent and caring chief.
If saying that makes you feel better, then yes.
I'm not gay but that doesn't mean I can't acknowledge he's handsome and the perfect husbando in the same way Astrid is the perfect waifu.
I bet he made her imitate Drago, if you know what I mean
I was surprised. I'd never been too into Astrid before the second movie. She looked too... crusty? That's not the right word but the right word is irrelevant. She didn't look great, to me, and now she looks downright beautiful. I never use that word. I feel gay as fuck typing it, but that's the word that comes to mind. Meanwhile Ruffnut's looking more and more witchy.
>there is a HTTYD thread on /co/ again
And all is right with the world.
It's okay anon, you're among friends.
Hell, I haven't even fapped or even gotten a boner to the Hiccstrid stuff I read. I couldn't.
It's understandable most of the time but the one time it stood out was when
Alvin told him they were going to destroy Berk and he got all depressed after that, even when Britannicus helped him escape. I mean, he had conditioned Rusalka already, couldn't he just blast his way out with her and wreck their shit? And it's not like everyone would just not look for him and couldn't defend themselves. If there's a reason for that then I'll withdraw my criticism.Other than that, yeah its bretty fuckin gud.
>just rescue your son you haven't seen for months
>immediately start yelling and scolding him
GREAT JOB STOICK
I'm pretty fine with her hips as they are now. Valka's cup size would be my choice.
I love that she sticks her tongue out while drawing.
It's the little quirks.
I was smitten the moment she smiled.
>the Astrid portrait
I'm not going anywhere. This movie has ruined my life, and only you people understand me.
Same here. she made a big jump looks wise from the first movie to the second. I think a big part f it is her hair. It looks much nicer in the second movie.
>tfw falling asleep to the soundtrack every night
Come fly with me
Into a fantasy
where are the dragon fuckers? Shouldn't they have shown up by now?
One of my top 3 songs from the first movie. When it was finals time and I felt in over my head in physics, I listened to the soundtrack and this song had me feeling lighter than air. Shit, I wish I could write music.
Dragonfucker! Dragonfucker! Dragonfucker!
I hope this works!
It worked! The prophesy has been fulfilled!
>yfw we'll never get to see this in the third movie
>tfw you will never have a baby dragon to snuggle with
someone kill me now
I fucking love parrot!Stormfly and cat!Toothless in modern AU settings.
Indeed. Although whilst we know that many of Toothless' mannerisms were modelled after those of cats, I think behaviourally the kind of interactions Hiccup has with him would only really be possible in real life with a dog.
Fuck that, it's an adorable, affectionate, lovely kitty cat.
Like Zack. Only black. And with a missing leg.
i think the most die hard funniest part of the entire franchise was the snoggletog short where astrid offers people yaknog and Snotlout just leans into frame shacking his head in a panicked "Dont do it" motion.
>that feel when someone insults HTTYD and by extension your perfect waifu
I-i-it might be wordplay
Fuck google. That search is getting worse by the year.
And where Hiccstrid/Astrid is concerned, I'm usually the dude that starts the picture dumps in the first place.
2GB of HTTYD content, and I still have not sorted everything.
I'm busy with a lot of stuff at the moment.
But I did upload a lot of my Astrid cosplay pictures (the folder grew some since then, though).
>starts all the picture dumps
>implying I am not the king of Hiccstrid
I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO CONTROLS THE HICCSTRID AAAAAAAAGGGG
I know I'm not the only one. There's always at least another astridfirend in the threads.
But goddamn if I've not tried my damnest to keep thereads alive in the past by doing one-man picture dumps.
too busy to upload pictures, but not too busy to post on 4chan.
Hiccstrid in bed together seems to be a very common theme.
So have I, we all have at one point or another. I'm just pointing out that >>64555918 is being a bit of a pretentious prick. Maybe the satire was unnecessary I suppose.
We're talking about 2gb of pictures and shit, and I'm doing some STALKER modding, watching AVGN and talking about the movie.
Also, I have to leave in like 10mins to pick up my dad from work.
See how their interaction was before Astrid went full "Imma be the best".
Also, I kinda want them to tweak her kid model. Make her more like Nico's concept art for young Astrid.
Unless your father is Stoick and you're picking him up on your Nightfury, then you are disappoint.
Eehhh, yeah...now I feel a like a jerk for that post. I'm sorry anon, shall we be astridfriends together and continue to grace this board with best girl?
Astriddfriends are love. everyone else is a filthily heretic!
I don't know if anyone here listens to Sibelius, but I think the second movement of his piano sonata sounds kinda HTTYD-ish, especially from 8:03 onwards
Is it just me?
More awesome modern AU Hiccstrid with lovely parrotStormfly and catToothless.
Can't deal with it.
P-please, I want to believe...
Something beautiful anon. Something beautiful
the look in her eye, you just KNOW they banged
hiccup is known to be THE most hung guy in berk, possibly one of the biggest in the world. his cock has been described as "like an ale mug", with gargantual thickness that would rival stoick and gobber. im estimating his size to be at least 8.5" bone pressed, with OVER 7" of girth. he would have absolutely destroyed astrid's pussy.
they would have spent hours and hours on foreplay, getting herself wet enough just so she can take it. i can just imagine her begging for it, with hiccup barely able to force it past the knob, and astrid moaning and squirming, demanding him to force it in deeper. she would have orgasm'd within seconds of taking the entire length, being filled and stretched right up to her cervix.. the orgasm would have been powerful, with her vaginal muscles clamping down on hiccups throbbing monstrosity, her whole body quivering in euphoria..
i bet she still masturbates to the memory of it
The best we can hope for is an event which sparks their decline, and the fact that it will be obvious from the ending that they're going, as opposed to an instant wipeout.
Thinking back to the first thread.
>ugh, more funny animal jokes
>inb4 pop culture references (probably from that hip viking girl)
>this cgi looks horrible
>nothing in this trailer is funny
About the only thing /co/ was intrested in at the time was the two viking girls (and the possibility of maybe there being a tribe of girls, because in the "you're crazy" scene you could see Astrid and Ruffnut, with Tuffnut in the back, and his gender was hard to determine).
>tfw we'll never get a version of the movie with these deleted scenes
I mean come on, it's only 7 minutes and they fill in some important neglected details, surely they could have squeezed at least the first one in
>Dagur the deranged fughts as a berserker
>always has his full armada to hand
>yfw he loses to hiccup both in hand to hand and tactically because he fights like a younger man, with nothing held back
>I am Berk's reckoning - here to end the borrowed time we've all been living on
It would be extremely painful
>Beethoven wrote this as a thanksgiving hymn to God after he recovered from a serious illness that he thought would end his life
>All while completely deaf
>He couldn't even hear his own voice
>He never got to hear a note of this masterpiece
>But then he did - all in his head
True definition of the word master.
Shame I was asleep when this one was posted. I can definitely hear it, and this isn't the first time I've heard the classical influence on John Powell. I'll have to dig around through my classical folder to find the other pieces that remind me of the soundtrack.
It's cool, I haven't gone to sleep yet and really have nothing better to do. I really like the sweeping sound it has, mainly because of those crazy arpeggios in the bass. Looking forward to more pieces similar.
You need to remove kebab, Anon.
Do it for the right reason.
I like how the different dragons all have different animalistic inspirations and designs ( i.e stormfly having parrot inspirations, toothless that of a panther, Thornado drom whale sharks, etc) as opposed to lazily copy/pasting them all over each other
>Go to bed thinking about HTTYD
>Dream of being chased by Smokey and his Crossed all night.
THIS WASN'T WHAT I ASKED FOR DAMNIT!
Pardon my ignorance but what is the one on the left and should I watch it?
The Black Cauldron. Absolutely worth watching. One of the most disturbing Disney films in existence thanks to the villain.
It also has my gwraigfu in it.
Yes, strangely. Eilonwy was arguably the first Disney 'action girl' who falls for a 'beta' male character. Taran also gets a fire sword and there are dragons (but they're evil).
It's not your fault.
If Hiccup can forgive him then so can I!
You are out of line anon!
Skrills are pretty badass, I bet Dagur was super butthurt when he lost the only one found for centuries.
Also, the twins in the series are really good. Snotlouts a cunt though, but I suspect that is mostly down to his father.
wonder how high his power level could be.
UNNNFFF that short hair. So wished she'd kept it.
seriously, Toothless is VERY dangerous, but he's not the "if you meet him, you may as well commit Sudoku immediately" that the book of Dragons describes Nigh Furies.
He can be outclassed in certain areas by other dragons (though he does remain incredibly versatile and is at the high end of pretty much everything) and he can be brought down by enough firepower.
But imagine if Bork the Bold was describing a fully grown night fury, capable of the
Super Saiyan shenanigans Toothless was displayed at the end of 2while being able to fly autonomously
Man it must take some balls to admit you are illiterate in this day and age.
I do love the whole Draconic Motorbike thing they have going where the riders grip the horns.
Pity their iconic Burninating skin thing doesn't really get shown too often when they have riders, for fairly obvious reasons.
Though i do like how they're smart and empathetic enough to use a milder form as a makeshift heated seat. It's the little things that make them bro tier.
I feel like they're one of the weirder looking dragons of the series. Something about how they look doesn't really mesh well with me, and I can't pinpoint why.
Something about them makes me think of Dragon from Shrek, so that might have something to do with it.
>Hiccup went from dorky teen to perfect husbando between 1 and 2.
>mfw imagining how he'll look in 3
FIRST ONE TO TALK GETS TO STAY ON MY DRAGON
Well congratulations, you got yourself caught, now what's the next step of your master plan?
I'm sure no one cares, but I just finished installing a new CPU cooler and I'm glad to see it's still alive.
Page 9 bump
one more reason these threads cannot become the same thing in the end.
Just a friendly reminder of what not to do anon.
