why do people grill their meat with foil? the fuck is the point

They normally have the entire bottom filled with the coals and don't know how to handle flare ups and don't have a safe place to move the meat if it happens because they covered the entire bottom in coals.

Its a tool for better indirect cooking. BBQ does it too. If you have something fatty that isn't best with a quick hot sear, you can indirect in foil for a bit to soften the fat then de-foil to sear the meat until done. Then you can save the drippings for a jus.

I don't often see people do this except with fish (and then there's probably other stuff in with the fish)
