why do humans make a habit out of eating things that plants designed as a way of avoiding being eaten
>>
>>9430367
Because if those plants evolved defense mechanisms it follows that they are protecting something good to eat
>>
>>9430416
That's not at all what he's talking about. Hot peppers are the defense, but we eat them.

>>9430367
Because our species' prerogative is to defy the natural order.
>>
>>9430367
if you don't eat them, the plant wins. Are you a man or not? Are you going to lose to a fucking plant?
>>
>>9430652
sometimes your defenses don't work if a creature is immune / actually finds pleasure in your chemicals of choice

birds can't even feel capsaicin, they can eat peppers all day
>>
>>9430677
>things don't work on you if they don't work
Holy shit, really??
>>
>>9430367
Retard, the literal entire point of fruit is to be eaten by something. It's a way of distributing seeds.
>>
>>9430845
are you implying that plants are capable of reverse psychology?
>>
>>9430677
it's thought birds are specifically excluded through evolution though, as they're excellent at spreading the seeds through consumption
>>
What about plants like the manchineel, sometimes refered to as the little apple of death? Why would a plant grow to not have its seeds spread through consumption?

Humans actually cultivate capsicums so we blow the hell out of some retarded shitting birds
>>
>>9430652
>Hot peppers are the defense, but we eat them.
That's because we have big goofy brains that lets us convince ourselves to eat literally anything.
You think wild animals would find kimchi and decide "rotting cabbage? sign me the fuck up"
>>

>While the plant is toxic to many birds and animals, the black-spined iguana (Ctenosaura similis) is known to eat the fruit and even live among the limbs of the tree.[4]
What is toxic to one thing is not to another.
Defensive evolutionary adaptations like that are usually because the plant only thrives when one particular type of animal eats its fruit or lives in it, and it wants the other animals to fuck off.
